I'm strill trying to decide on server / class to play.
So many decisions!
-
If you have just done the normal preorder, without early access, by when would they send the game? I ordered at www.play.com, they say that they have it in stock on the website, but they havnt processed my order yet, and its been like 5 days.
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
You'd have to contact www.play.com about that.

Two more minutes left! I'll try logging on in a sec. If I don't come back you'll know where I am
! Two more minutes left! I'll try logging on in a sec. If I don't come back you'll know where I am
! BTW, make your characters on the server Deathwhisper.
-
I'll make a character there, but after the PvP "experience" at the close of Open Beta, not sure my play style and patience can handle what the PvP servers will become. I think I've grown out of it.
Edit: They pushed start time back 3 hours.. lol -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Seriously? I'll be really pissed off if they did. The authentication server still isn't up... I'll keep trying and I'll post when I get in...
-
Log out, close the game, start it back up. You'll see it in the patch message.
8pm GMT .. You know, this kind of pisses me off, since they waited till AFTER the promised start time to decide and let everybody know this. They obviously knew they'd need more time well before 5 minutes ago.
Oh well. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Damn it, that really sucks. Hopefully we'll get the DirectX10 shader model 4 in the next patch, then I'll forgive Funcom...

The new AoC forums are up! I have the first thread ever on the off-topic forums of the next big MMORPG!
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
There's a new PVP ruleset: Culture PVP! The Bane server will be changed from FFA PVP to Culture PVP. This will probably piss off a lot of guilds that've chosen Bane for all of their members.
In Culture PVP all the races battle against each other, which could be more interesting because you won't get killed as much everywhere you go. I'm still not sure if I want to be on a FFA PVP server or Culture PVP. -
So no one is planning to play on a PvE server? They do have PvE servers, right?
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Yeah, they have them. PVP is just a lot more fun, especially at high levels. It gives you a lot more to do once you reach endgame
-
I'm thinking PvE... (I know, carebear right?!) But I've been gaming since '97 when UO didn't have Trammel (Candy Land) and PvP was brutal.. Brutal as in, if I attack you and win, I take all your stuff, but if I lose, I you take all mine. It was a nice "checks and balance" and kept people on the even keel. On top of that, "Reds"... Kill 8 people in cold blood, you're a murdered and a free target for anybody! Good times, good rule set, it worked.
AoC PvP (At least FFA PvP) seems pointless to me. AoC FFA-PVP is basically, "Who's camping who at the spawn point, or zone lines" ...
For some reason, maybe I'm just getting old, but that concept just doesn't seem as fun for me.
I will roll a character on a PvP server for name reservation and sight seeing purposes, but I see myself as spending more time on a PvE server.
However, depending on how this "Culture-PvP" works, that sounds interesting.
Except, how can that work. Most casters are Stygians, so basically what you'll have is an army of Tanks VS and army of Clothies?!
*shrug* -

I think I've decided on a Dark Templar, they seem like they'll be fun to play and that they'll be the most well-rounded and have the most combat varieties. I can't wait, 40 more minutes...
-
I've wanted to be an assassin, because that seems to be what I play in every game. Something about choosing my battles. I just fear it may be an over played class, and don't want to be part of that either. So, here I sit, still torn.
Conquerer seems cool, played that for a bit, the survivability is nice, and swinging a 2-h weapon can make ya giddy as it lobs somebody head off.
Decisions... I guess I need to worry about server and guilds as well.. *sigh* -
8:00pm GMT has come and gone, still no servers.

MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
There's a new message that welcomes us to Hyboria where the old delay one was, so I think we're just waiting on the patch server.
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
The patch is live! The gates of Hyboria are finally open! I'm going to go play, see you guys there!
-
Wooo! I rolled a character on Deathwisper, Unfair is the name, look me up!
I need to make a few other characters! -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
I created a Dark Templar named Golme on Deathwhisper, I'll definitely add anyone in the thread with a character. The game was pretty good so far, I've only just gotten into Tortage. I can't wait to get past the first quest line so I can get to the "real" game.
-
So it has started...
Anyone installed using the retail DVD? If so, how much patching? -
Some A-hole took my name. So I am Sparta on Tyrrany.
-
-
I'm primarily playing on Wiccana (PvE). Name Unfair if anybody else isn't PvP-minded.
-
Anyone with a 8600m GT having major graphical stuttering problems? I'm on a Dell 1520 with 2GB Ram, a T7300 2.0ghz processor, and have tried 5 different drivers so far, with the older ones playing out a bit smoother, but not by much. All settings are on low.
-
Its funny the 8600 during the beta ran like a deam and now release it runs horribly, but everyone else is running great. Have you tried setting your shaders to 2.0 and just the preset low?
My in-game name is Redmond. I play on Tyranny and I am in Egocentric. -
Really? Hmm that sucks. How is it in DX10?
-
-
That's too big for my monthly 20GB download cap >_>
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
After trying the DirectX9 client I can confirm it looks the same, but runs better (25-40fps). DirectX10's special eye candy isn't added yet, so that's why they look the same. The game is amazing if it's running smoothly, but it can drop down to 7fps for less than a second and jump back up, which is annoying. I also found it can work better with different types of AA enabled. I'm going to try the latest beta drivers, I heard it runs a lot better with those.
-
The game has run incredibly smooth for me so far.
I'm on a Gateway P-6831FX, so 8800GTS (1440 x 900) w/ T9300 Processor, 4 Gigs of Ram, Vista 64bit, 175.63 Drivers.
I set the pre-set "High", DirectX 9, SM 3.0, AA x2, I'm averaging 35-45 FPS depending on the area. (Of course in a cave, 120+)
Overall, it's been completely smooth. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
I'm going to try the new beta 175.70 drivers, it seems everyone running the beta drivers is running the game a lot smoother than my WHQL 175.16 drivers. I'll post my results tomorrow.
-
-
One more day to go...
Pre-ordered mine on Saturday, and ready for tomorrow. Does anyone know how early one can use the Rhino? -
Level 40 I believe, but you get an extra belt pouch (8 slot inv bag) till then
-
Yea, the 8 slot bag is sort of handy. But I don't like how when you type "/claim" your inventory is flooded with everything, I was hoping you could select the items you wanted to claim.
Now I'm stuck with a bow, a rhino, a mammoth, and an extra bag I can't use in my inventory. -
-
Is it a slim chance in hell that My XPS M1330 Could run this game "relativly" fluent? Or would it be like trying to spank that dead horse and try to get it going?
3GB Ram
t7500 2,2 Ghz Duo.
gforce 8400M Gs.
250 GB 5400 rpm disk (doh) -
-
damn i wish i could afford the monthly payment
i really need an mmo
-
Anyone running the game on a M51Sn-X2? This is the laptop I am thinking of buying and trying to figure out how well it will perform.
Screenshots from http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest would be very helpful as well. Thanks in advance.
Heira
Dagoth (PvE)
C.O.R.E.
PS - Better yet I will move my question from another thread over here since it seems better placed here:
I have $1,500 to spend and I know NOTHING about computers other than how to play games. I recently bought Age of Conan and I intend on playing that for a while.
What is the best laptop I can buy to play this game with $1,500? Design and Brand mean nothing to me. I just want the BEST I can get for gaming with this price range. -
What is the monthly fee? Any one running a XPS M1530 with the 8600 DDR3? Just curiouse on how well it runs?
-
I was lucky to get in on the early access pre-release. And oh man does this game really make your rig works for its money...
I'm running a Sager 5793:
Vista 64 Ultimate
8800GTX 512mb
4 gig DDR2 RAM
200 GB 7200rpm HDD
I cannot run this game maxed without having crap FPS... I have it running at 1400x900 instead of at 1680x1050, mostly high settings, I have some of the draw distances for various settings turn to 60-75%. The game runs around 25-30 FPS in citys and 35+ in more open areas. But I will stress the game looks fantastic, even with my settings not at maxed.
What ever minimum requirements AoC stated is needed to run the game, they mean literally, not playable. So if you meet the minimum requirements, you'll be able to install the game and watch it play in freeze frame. If you meet the recommended requirements, you'll probably be able to play the game on high-med settings, but not maxed. This is like the Crysis for MMOs. -

175.16 drivers
x205-9349 (stats below, only I am not overclocked as of yet)
DX9 open beta client
1440x900
27-60fps (average is 40-ish)
medium settings
shadows off, reflections off
Levelled 1-10 as a bear shaman for giggles... beautiful game period even in DX9 mode... DX10 mode only available from DVD apparently and only with release key... gameplay is smooth and 175.16 drivers help a ton.
Friend has an SLI 8800GTS 640 desktop... 47-60+fps 1680x1050 constant on high with 4xAA. Everything but shadows on.
The release DX9 client is extremely scalable, and anyone with an 8600GT DR2 or higher is gonna love it once they tweak it. -

"Age of Conan has the highest pre-order number for any global launch of an original (not a sequel) PC game, ever." -Funcom
Funcom is shipping 700,000 copies of the game, which they believe will sell out quickly, and the only reason they're not shipping more is because of of the limitations of setting up and stabilizing servers to hold the demand. Despite carrying a $90 price tag, the Collector's Edition is completely sold out, selling 111,000 copies in a one-time print run. Those are some impressive numbers, I think World of Warcraft finally has some real competition. Let's see Blizzard actually do something for WoW in terms of content, they pull in over $150 million a month, but they usually never give extra content to their users. -
My friend is running in DX 10 and on max settings on his Alienware m15x. I am running on medium with my computer with 20-50 FPS.
-
So other then Kernalpanic what Char/classes is everyone useing? And how is the game other than the FPS and graphics. How is the actual battle system, monsters/bad guys ect... Unfortinately i'm unable to play until August so i have to live vicariously threw U. LOL
