I'd imagine SLI 7950 GTX would be able to at least match my performance.

I run one 8700M GT @ 1400x900 with medium settings and my FPS is 25-55, always smooth.

I'd say you could do much better but I've heard AoC isn't quite optimized for SLI yet....

He's probably just talking about user reviews. Gamespot has alot of them [don't need to be a member to view] and some of them are fairly detailed.

If anyone has questions about the game, just post it here. I've played a while now [can't obviously comment on end game stuff] so I can give some first impressions.

I just picked the game up and I'm installing it now! So excited!

When it comes to the MMO genre, there is no way to "beat" the game. The only way to "beat" an MMO is to set a goal for yourself, whether it be reaching the level cap, having the best equipment, or killing the biggest baddest MOB in the game. Other than that, the game is simply too massive to say that anyone has beaten it.

Personally, and I have maintained this position since late '99 when I started playing EQ, magazines and other publications that review MMOs are to be relatively ignored until such time that the game is stable, the content is "complete" and enough playtime in the game has been acheived to really be able to pass judgement on it.

To me, it's a bit ridiculous to say that someone reviewed an MMO that just came out four days ago and already lauding it with praise and awards. Suffice to say, there is no way in hell that a magazine or publication can completely review an MMO in four days and deem it the best MMO ever.

 

I'am playing Dx9 1440x900 HIGH Setting, Medium shadows, 8xAA, and getting 25fps - 38fps. Will try DX10 tonight.

I don't think DX10 will be included until August.

And Snow, you need to convert to Barbarian. You will still by a Rogue but you get to jump out of steath with a giant 2h'er. That's just too cool in my opinion!

 

Yeah Gateway has a great thing going with these FXs. Are the Europeans playing this game, and are the servers working well?

 

BMW, we have the same specs except I have the 8700M GT [which is pretty close to the 8600M].

I run @ 1400x900 Medium settings, around 28-45 fps.

Make sure you have the best drivers for the game as that makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE!

 

I need to check which drivers I have. I'm pretty happy with the ones I have when I'm playing Counter Strike Source...I get 160+ FPS pretty much all the time with 1400 900 All high settings...

Which driver do you recommend for this game?

 

I'am seriously thinking of changing, I just miss swinging a sword, though I was playing earlier and 2 guys jumped me and I killed them very fast (Very fun!). I here the Ranger has the best advantages. Still stuck at level 9 though I completed many tasks.

 

I finally upgraded my drivers from 169.09 2 days ago to 175.75 they seem to wok very well, still need to upgrade Vista to SP1.

 

To be fair the 8700M is a good 40+% faster than his 8600GT DDR2 at stock clocks... he does have a nice processor though and a good chunk of RAM, however.

He'll likely have to bump down to 1280x800/low or so, but it will still be beautiful and run just fine.

 

I bought a new Razer Lachesis just for this game to replace my deathadder. This mouse is way better than the adder which is an excellent mouse.

 

I love my DeathAdder, I want another one for my laptop, right now, I just switch it from my iMac to my laptop when ever I want to play!

What makes the Lachesis so much better, if I may ask?

 

I'm mixed feelings on Assassin. I'm lvl 32 right now, and while it's kind of cool, stealth is very fickle, my Fatalities are boring compared to those w/ 2H weapons or even 1H swords (scissor cut decapitations FTW!)

I'll continue on, since I'm made it this far, but I'm really starting to think of how much greener the grass could be on the other side of the classes fence.

 

I really thought the 1H animations of the Dark templar would be less fun than the 2H blunt of the bear shaman (how can you beat splattering someone's head open??) but quite frankly the 1H/shield animations are very nice too!

I giggled with glee killing everything in my wake... sometimes 4 or 5 at a time... I know the DT is not a damage machine... but boy is he fun!

 

It has 4 extra buttons to customize so I have six combo strikes on my mouse instead of 2. Onboard profiles, and smaller also 4000dpi.

Yeah I feel the same, but thats whats cool about the game when you've grown tired of the character, try another one, does the assassin acquire any good spells at higher levels? I'am at level 9, 40 I get my rhino!

With both at stock clocks,
about 25-30% faster...

If you can get up to 625core/1250 shader, (the memory clocks on the two are the same as they use the same type of RAM) you will have similar (barely lower) performance to the 8700m at stock. Note you will be running pretty hot and close to most 8600m 15" laptops' potential at that point.

One poster claimed to have reached over 700core with their 8600m DDR3 in a XPS1530... dunno if I would go that high without external cooling however. At that point, you'd likely exceed what the 8700m users at stock clock have reported here, but the whole concept of "laptop" just went out the door and would likely be closer to "lap-scorcher".

I dont see why someone with an 8600GT DDR3 and the more recent processor wouldn't just start at stock and go for 1440x900 on low... then try medium. If it seems smooth to you and you are happy... go for it.

 

Visually speaking, on everything I play, medium 1680x1050 > High 1440x900 so...

 

I've gone down the Corruption Feats tree, and so far, it's "OK" at best. Nothing "ZOMG AMAZING!" . Some of the life drain skills I'm starting to pick up at my level are cool, but hardly worth it given the average length of a fight is 8 seconds.

I can see some of it being useful for raid content, and larger encounters. But right now, I think I'm "underwhelmed" by the assassin as a class.

Especially when I see how other classes operate lately. Example, I was grouped with a demonologist yesterday, he's 5 levels lower than me, he was 23, I was 28 respectively. I was struggling to take down 2 mobs my level. Next pull, he AOE's 4 mobs (level 28) down in about 5 seconds. Sure, he took a fair beating, but just watching him play, and looking so cool doing it, made me think less of the assassin.

Oh well, one positive of me being a "carebear" on a PvE server, I can roll all the alts I want and take my time, since the level of competition os severely less.

 

So I installed the game and played for a while. I'm level 8 or so now and so far I love this game. It sucks that I can only run it at 1400X900 At Low settings with 20-40 FPS but oh well.

 

On my quadcore desktop I can play @ native rez (1920x1200) with medium settings and everything runs great.

I'll try my laptop this weekend but if it's anything like the beta I'll be lucky to run low or low/medium @ native rez.

Overall, AoC has been a lot of fun. I decided to join the RP/PVP server Hyboria. Currently playing a Necromancer and dare I say I think necromancers need to be nerfed a bit. They seem to be too powerful at low levels. Good ranged spells and a weapon combat ability that seems to be odd for a mage.

Each game comes with a Buddy-Free-Trial deal for 7 days. Would we able to use the Free trials on opposite version of the ones we have?

Example...

Could I subscribe to that 7 Day Free Trial and test out the American Servers and he tests out the European Servers on his Free Trial?

We are trying to figure out if I should play on his servers in America or if he should play on the European servers so we can play together...

I know that the servers in America are in New Jersey and the Euro is Amsterdam so I'm pretty sure me playing on the US servers would work better but we want to test it out anyways.

Anyone know? I tried emailing customer support but there support is down or something

I am using 75.75 drivers, and Vista SP1(32 bit) - It even recognizes 4 GB in windows(but not when I run 3d Mark).

Formatted my computer, upgraded my drivers, stopped indexing my drive, installed conan and defragged system again, and I did other stuff as well to get it to run good.

But it just runs so horrible.

Its like the game is full of lag spikes.. Like when you move past some objects or something the framerate will suddenly drop from 30 to 5 in a second.. hardcore lag and zone loading and massive amounts of pop-in. Suddenly NPCs and houses just pop up right in front of me, and it just feels so clunky.

Crysis on medium ran so much better than Conan does on everything low at lowest resolution with everything off.


My 8600m GT cant handle it... I dont know if its cuz its using DDR2 or what not, but it surely cant be the processor or amount of ram, can it?(2,6 C2D Penryn and 4 Gigs)

My laptop runs it at like 40fps with Low settings pixel shading to 2.0 or whatever its called.

why do people with no sli rigs always say that?

i can confirm that sli works in the game. it almost doubles my framerates.

 

That happened to me (quick sudden drops). Then, I started using the DirectX10 client instead of the DX9 and I get better performance and no more sudden framerate drops. Try switching it in the settings in the ConanPatcher (before you start the game) and then again in the in-game settings. It fixed the problem for me, so hopefully it'll fix it for you, too.

 

Southpaw it took you 2+ hours to install the game?

I took me like 35 minutes for the whole 30GB or whatever size it is.

 

Thanks for the info. I'm not very good with computers so I dont even know how to Oclock my card. I'm sure i could easily find out and do so but I just plan on playing AoC on single player for a couple months since i'm deployed. LvL up a couple diff. characters to LvL 20 since thats as high as u can get in single player mode. Then when i get home i will have several lvl 20 characters i can use online and find out which class/race ect... i like the best. More then likely i will just run every thing on low. As long as i dont lag and every thing looks decent i dont need the top rated graphics by any means. I will play my 360 on 1080 for that.

Think i should get a cooling platform/mat for my 1530 since i plan on playing AoC online or since i'm going to use low settings will it be ok?

 

i also want to add;

this game totally sucks. i wasted $54 dollars for nothing. going to quit and only at level 9.

-everything is instanced...everything. it makes you feel ike you are not part of an mmo.

-character animations are absolutely horrible! everything is out of synch. it's simply stop and go with zero transition animations.

-game is lifeless. characters have no weight or feel to them.

-there is absolutely zero risk in dying. also, no risk vs reward makes pvp pointless. if you complete a quest in a dungeon you can simply jump off a cliff and die to teleport back to the "wake up spot" so you don't have to run back. it saves time.

-absolutely no exploration. you can teleport to day time or night time.

the game is simply bad. no thought into it. they concentrated all their efforts into the marketing and glamour shots instead of common sense gameplay.

 

I've heard from everyone that it gets much better past Tortage. Tortage is a small starter island, the rest of the world is a huge place to explore. No problems with characters animations over here. The characters are some of the most lifeless I've seen in a MMORPG! There's a lot more risks in dying past Tortage, also. Give the game some more time, most of those complaints aren't even good complaints.

All I've heard is the ultimate opposite of that though. I doubt you can still switch between nighty/day past Tortage...

 

You get a debuff that lowers your character's power. The more you die, they'll stack up and you'll keep losing overall power. You have to run back to where you died to get some stone or wait for 20 minutes for the debuff to go away.

 

lol that's not a penalty.

a penalty would be the looting of your corps and or the xp loss upon dying. in other words, something that you cannot get back so easily.

it's all about risk vs. reward. if there are no penalties for the adventure what kind of an adventure would it really be?

If you don't have a good connection you'll jump around it's been stable for me. I'am at level 14, almost took out a Dark Templer who was at 22! I was sooo close. The game has been very fun so far. I need to start hooking up with other players. I saw a couple of players standing over a resurrection spot killing people as they were coming out and weak, a-holes!

 

I noticed a large amount of players using women characters, are these actual women playing? I hope so it would be nice for females to find a game they love.
