More DRM crapApparently the DRM counts each user account on your computer as a seperate install. I.e. you now get 5 installs if you have 5 users on your computer, to use it on each account you use up all your installs.
Great.
From 2kgames forum:
Activation is on a per user basis. I installed for all users (which means short cuts are placed in the All Users directory) and activated it as administrator and found out too late that I shouldn't have as I had to activate it again in my normal user account.
This is the reply I got from an email I sent to SecurRom:
I haven't heard back yet but I'll try to remember to post here when I do.
If you are in similar straits as me, they are making a removal tool... if you have multiple users on your machine...they have just upped the limit to 5.
Hope this helps.

Wow. You have to wonder, after cr@p like this, is there anyone who won't just get the cracked version??
-
Well, the demo worked fine for me, played all the way through. Downloaded the full game through Steam and now all it does is crash constantly. Is there any way to get a refund?
BTW, laptop is an A8JP (ATI x1700) -
-
-
Have you tried cleaning your registry? You are using the updated 163.44 video drivers for it right? From www.laptopvideo2go.com ? You have updated your DirectX also lately?
-
-
Anyway, I have an ATI card, so that site is kind of useless to me. :|

Download the latest Direct X here.

The validation service is unable to determine whether this copy of Windows Vista is genuine.
Access to the latest updates, all available features, and product support is reserved for customers running genuine Microsoft software. Until this copy of Windows passes genuine validation, certain features of Windows Vista may be disabled.
I'm about to kill someone. -
Now it won't let me open anything using Aero because Vista is apparently "stolen". I hope moduslink headquarters burns to the ground.
-
I've had it. I'm going back to XP. I'm livid at this point.
-
Sorry for the quad post, but it looks like MS has a huge bug in their validation that is taking down lots of people, especially, for whatever reason, those of us who use Steam. This is pathetic.
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1004&SiteID=25 -
Wow that's really wierd...probably MS's validation server wen't haywire :/.
Just insane you can't do MS updates or upgrading DX without worrying your version might get de-activate >.<
Alot of people upgrading DX seem to be getting this problem.
Back on topic.
To anyone that has finished the game:
To reveal the story line, why rapture is like it is, etc...
Do I just need to beat the game and all will be revealed?
or do I need to get the audio tapes to get some real answers? -
hm...i had problems with steam too. Steam was crashing right after starting the console. (this was to play half life 2 and counter strike.) I used windows update and downloaded all the critical updates, restarted and steam stopped crashing. have you tried updating using windows update?
-
Got it today
Installed it no problems at all. No crashes no errors luvly.
And after my fears about it being bug and error prone.
What can i say. ***** Brilliant
Im only just after the medical area (emergency exit area)
Thoughts so far.
Graphics great but not spectacular. But it is well done and stylish. Water effects are second to none. The first few levels sorta tutorial to the world. Sound is superb though. Im scared ***** half the time its quite creepy and nice haunting music.
Playing it at 1440x900 with everything ON or HIGH except for force global lighting as im not sure what this does, after a lot of testing for playability. If i change the res to 1920x1200 (my native resolution) it looks Utterly fantastic. Only problem is fps goes to 12 - 18 lol.
At 1440 x900 fps ranges from 15 - 60 with vysnc off! One thing i have noticed with vysnc off. There is sometimes some hdd screen juddering. The hdd seems to get accessed more and so it can lead to fps down to 5 while the screen loads. Something to do with prefetching maybe?
So im thinking to change it to vysnc on and while this leads to slightly lower fps it is more stable ie 12 - 60 but little or no juddering.
I'm liking the game so farThough im playing it on medium and it does seem maybe a little easy? I just shock someone then either bullet to the head or one swipe with the wrench.
Oh and how do i take screenshots? I guess ill use fraps for that ok np. Ill take some screens and post asap
Im using 94.20s mobileforce drivers btw. -
If your not playing on an external monitor there is absolutely no reason NOT to have V-sync enabled. Since your LCD panel is more than likely like the rest of ours with a maximum refresh of 60Hz.
1Hz = 1 FPS. I.e. your never going to be able to see more than 60FPS since it's impossible for your LCD panel to display it. Just FYI. -
Im in the middle of my second time playing it through, right before i kill Ryan, I think. The first time i rescued all the little girls, this time, it makes me sad that i have to harvest them
-
Force Global Lighting ON makes all lights static, it increases FPS but the lights won't move even if you move a lamp across the room, etc...

SPOILER ALERT:
Jerk.
If it isn't written in a magazine, don't write it without a spoiler tag or whiteout.
Yeah, I don't care how insignificant story is to you, it matters to me, and you've gone and pissed me off.
I don't like you very much. -
Well, M$ just fixed their validation issues. I installed DX10 and whatever other runtime crap they needed. And it's still crashing. Sweet.
-
-
I've been having some wierd crashes, sometimes when I buy a tonic/plasmid @ Gatherer's Garder the screen freezes where it asks you to place the plasmid, and I can hear me shotting off my electro bolt but I can't see it :/.
Has anyone else had any freeze ups like this? -
Ah but it WAS in a magazine, and manhy online articles before release.
-
Anyway, if you wouldn't mind next time... would you put some sort of little spoiler tag or something? I mean...this is notebookreview forums, not gamespot.
Bah. I'm just being sensitive. Carry on. -
-
well i installed the inf modified driver thing for my vostro 1500 and have had a good session for the last couple of hours! the game looks amazing, though i have turned most thingss to medium as on high it was difficult to control with lots of baddies onscreen. its still slightly clunky and jerky but less than before, perhaps it is my mouse as well. i dunno. great game though!
-
Its well known that ryan gets killed in the story. I didn't Mention how or why, so no spoiler
-
it is kindoff a spoiler because you said you killed ryan. (right before i kill ryan) So now we know he must one of the bosses or the big boss.
Its not in two pc magazines i read (PCZ, PCG). And im not in the habit of scouring online forums beforehand actively looking for spoilers because i knew there would be people deliberately posting spoilers on forums (lots of spoilers on 2k forums)
cheers
at least put *SPOILER* before it if its a major part of the story -
I read it in one of the xbox mags at my friends house.
-
Ow! Now I've said that you have to kill Ryan!!
Wait! I said "You kill Ryan"! I said it!
Oh! I've said "Kill Ryan" again!
And there again...that's three "Kill Ryans"!
[Sorry one of my favorite movies]
-
OK, maybe I missed it. Where can I dl the latest version of dx 10? If I go to the M$ site, I keep getting directed to a dx9c update.
-
Hm..I dont think there is an update to dx 10 from the original thing right now.
Hopefully with Vista SP1 :s but that might not come till next year :/ Hopefully sooner!
Btw has anyone other than me missed the fact that there's writing on some of the walls?
written in something (blood?), phrases like "You Shouldn't Have Come Here" o.o just when I thought game couldn't get creepier now I wanna replay to look at the walls >< -
I wanna play, but I can't . My computer HAD to die just before i got the game. And it's the first retail game I've wanted to play since oblivion...
-
How? -
tried removing dust, somehow killed the mobo.
-
More bad publicity from Uk's The Inquirer, says, "Avoid Bioshock like the plague."
Apparently Securom doesn't play well with AVG anti-virus. -
-
I CAN PLAY!!!
I can't change the resolution without crashing, but the game actually works now. Sweeeeet! -
Will my laptop be powerful enough to run Bioshock on med-high settings (mostly med) at say 1024x768? (specs in sig)
(I realise this question is more applicable to the 'can my notebook run it..' thread but no one seems to be answering)
Cheerz. -
Yes it will run it.
My question is...can somebody with a dell inspiron 1520 post some screens? 8600m gt + 2gb ram + c2d -
I am having trouble getting the Bioshock demo to work. I downloaded it from steam and when I try to open it, the logo comes up and it goes to a black screen in which it stays. In the black screen my mouse cursor only shows up in a small rectangle in the middle of the screen. If I click my mouse, it just closes. Anyone?
-
Wowy the demo is amazing. One thing bugs me tho, I get more fps with the 158.45 drivers when compared to the new 163.44 drivers, but it somehow feels less smooth then 163.44. I wonder if the same thing happens with the full game.
-
@Jonno000 I think some other people here had that problem, are you using the latest drivers?
It's a driver issue if I remember correctly. -
-
I think I'll hold off buying Bioshock until the devs...
1) fix any activation problems
2) fix the fov in widescreen
3) release the first patch -
Has anyone with a notebook similar to mine played Bioshock (full not demo)? Is it playable at medium to high settings?
