IT IS NOT A CROP. A crop has to actually have something to crop, in this case the game was designed for widescreen. What part of that don't you understand. In what way are you "supposed" to see more in a widescreen mode???? I still don't understand what makes you believe that. The viewpoint is not artificially limited, the FOV in widescreen is exactly what it is supposed to be. However the FOV was artificially enhanced for the 4:3 mode. This does not in any way detract from the widescreen experience.
-
Yes it does.
-
Okay. I guess that's that then.
-
Yes, it is.
-
Well then.
Good night. -
Night man

omg can some help me?
bioshock demo crashes,
i just installed the 163.44 drivers too,
i am using vista 32bit
it displays the splash screen. then it hangs and says
bioshock.exe stopped reponding, i downloaded it from steam.
and it screws up my brightness so i have to log off to get back to normal. -
Has anyone tried the DX10 version of the game? Just curious. It's running just fine on DX9 at the moment, and I have an 8600M GT 256 card. If it's going to slow it down badly I won't try it, but with DX9 it runs smooth (with the exception of the opening scene.. there was some page flip).
-
It's the same install. You need to manually turn off DX10 for it to be DX9 on DX10 hardware.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
extending the vertical field of view for 4:3 displays is the same in end result of cropping a 16:9 display vertically. you could make the argument that the game was designed for 16:9, but the end result is that the 16:9 display is cropped vertically compared to the 4:3.
You could have a huge debate about whether or not it detracts from the widescreen experience. -
Putting -dx9 worked, but now obviously I cant run it in dx10; the whole reason I got my video card for. It also seems like I'm not the only one with this issue :/
-
This might very well be the FIRST FPS that I would like to play! It looks fantastic!
-
hm..well it might just be the demo having some issues w/vista x64 since I haven't seen any other people having problems due to the 8600.
If you like it tho buy the game, the only things I've heard that are different are things like, when it's foggy it doesn't look like the screen is covered by a white layer (dx9) it really looks "foggy" (dx10).
the smoke/particles are nicer (dx10).
but the water and fires look almost exactly the same. Pretty much just small things that you reallyyyyyy need to look closely to see them. -
So it's only true widescreen when its the standard screen users that get the shaft? I'm pretty sure the screen is still wide, and had this person not exposed to everyone that the field of view was smaller, not a single person would have noticed and would have been happier for it.
-
Standard screen users see more than widescreen users, please see my previous post's to understand.
-
Well since there isn't a problem with widescreen mode I guess 2kgames is releasing a patch to fix a 'non-existant' issue.
Wow, getting a 8800 card for making a fix to a 'non-issue'. I wish I could score for making a patch for something that 'obviously' didn't need it.....
/sigh.
-
Well I was trying my new toshiba x200 out on the bioshock demo.
My system runs great on the dx9 mode but when i go to dx10 it goes black screen and crashes. I have tried the lost planet dx10 demo and it worked perfectly ( the only other dx10 comparison i can give). I also updated to the newest drivers that were ment for bioshock (162.33) at ld2g.
my specs are this by the way.
CPU: intel core 2 duo T7100 (1.8ghz)
Mem: 2gb
GPU: 8700M GT 512mb
any help will be appreciated

+1 Good try Crimsonman, but the mods are moving Bioshock threads into this one.
Your link just links back to the 1st page!
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
Actually, I'm the one who told the mods to move it, but i gave him the page anyway, go me!
-
I get exactly what you're saying about true widescreen mode. But if 2k did offer that, wouldn't it give more vision to those with widescreens?
As far as i see it, one party (4:3 or 16:9) are always going to have a (dis)advantage - it's just not possible to show the same content unless it's stretched - which equals yuck! -
It will give more vision to widescreens. Which is why we have them in the 1st place
and since their IS NO MULTIPLAYER, it doesn't give an 'unfair' advantage to someone with a WS vs a FS user.
If done correctly the Widescreen will always show more than a FS version, as it should. Instead for Bioshock they cropped off the top and bottom for WS users and then moved the FOV (Field of View) forward about 2 feet for your character.
A lot of people reported motion sickness problems because of this artificial FOV.
CS:S does a great job of showing WS and FS. True WS should always show more. -

Know what kind of sucks?
I'm the starter of this thread and it says some other dude is
-
Odin started the 'Official' Bioshock thread....your thread got merged.
-
? no, ODIN5578 started it...
-
No, Crimsonman started it. However a thread with an earlier timestamp got merged into it, so that thread's posts appear first.
-
This game is amazing. Runs great on my lappy (laptop specs are in my sig if anyone's curious). Anyways, enjoy the screens
.

Crimsonman Ex NBR member
He's right, id know, i started the damn thing, but if you look at the title between posts for odin557995984748 or whatever, it says bioshock 360 or pc -
Nice widescreens! But you don't got no arm or sleeve!
Just a hand!
Nice screens btw though!
Even if they are cropped! Here I have a picture for you!
Well since they are saying it is not a rootkit then post your picture proof of it on your machines also please specify if it was the demo version this is to get them to give us a proper explanation to why it is showing up as one. To check use RootKitRevealerv1.71, also if you use a different program please post screen shots of that by pressing print screen and pasting into paint. Here is mine.
With the root kit installed, there is also a non modifyable folder installed onto the hard drive. Its not a false positive, its pointing at a larger problem. Pointing at it with severe prejudice. Be warned. -
It's a beautiful game to be honest, and probably fun. I just wish they hadn't screwed up the widescreen (easy to patch) and put in nasty DRM...which didn't matter because the game was cracked a few hours after launch.
/sigh
Edit: I was wrong the demo has securom in it also.
This might help:
And a fix to get rid of the 'unremovable' registry.
-
this is a noob ass question, and doesn't quite belong here, but eh, no point starting a new thread, but what exactly is the laptoptogo website? can't seem to find it.. even in google search. @_@
-
Try www.laptopvideo2go.com click that
Make sure to read the stickies on how to install the video drivers.
and add the moddified .inf's
-
lol woops +rep, accidentally called myself a slug. but yeah, thanks
-
Well i have installed the 163.44 drivers with the modded .inf but i still all i get is a black screen, maybe i'll try again.
isn't it better to uninstall graphic drivers first then restart> install chipset drivers> then the new graphic drivers?
anyone else having the same probs?
Ninja -
WOW those are excellent screens! i take back what i said about Bioshock's graphics. I initially thought they were DX10 but then i checked your sig and you have a similar system to mine
and using same drivers as well nice one
+rep -
yeah i know i was just messing with ya
-
Well, one of these years, a site may release drivers or a Bioshock patch or mod that actually allows for SLI. But right now, I'm pulling the same framerates as people with 5760's and other single 7950 systems. Rawrs.
-
Hi i am trying to install the english vista 32bit nvidia driver 163.44 but when i go to install it says "the nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. setup will now exit"
why is this so??!
my bioshock keeps crashing after that guy is smoking a cig and holding a present from his parents and rambling on about how good he was always going to be.
Help please! -
You can't install drivers directly from nVidia's site for mobile cards, you have to get them from www.LaptopVideo2Go.com
-
do you think it is worth waiting for a while for some kind of update or will i never be able to play it if i don't do the laptopvideo2go thing? it just looks very daunting to these inexperienced eyes!
i have a vostro with the 256mb nvidia card. im pretty annoyed im having so many problems! -
Slightly OT - but does anyone know how I can COMPLETELY uninstall Bioshock including all traces of SecuROM from my system?
I installed this on my Asus G1S laptop - but I also use it for my business - so I am extremely concerned about the security issues bought about by this supposed rootkit.
As anyone who has been to the 2K forums - nobody there really cares about those of us with legitimate issues. 2K seems more concerned on damage control and trying to paint a pretty picture about DRM and SecuROM instead of focusing on their customers.
Thanks. -
I think 2k is busy with other complaints right now so it'll be a while before we see any update from them :/
I found this guide on 2k forums but I dont think I should link to them (duno if it's against the rules) but I'll just put the guide here:
Go Here
Select your OS
Click on "Driver" and "Moddified INF" to download each of those.
Extract the driver to a folder.
Move the Moddified INF to the folder you just extracted the driver onto.
Run Installation. -
Ur not the only one. typing -dx9 at the end of the shortcut made it work for me, but then of course it only works in directx9. I have found any other working solution besides that.
-
You can uninstall Bioshock from the control panel normally, it'll just leave SecuROM.
to get rid of SecuROM though...
Here's another guide I found on 2k forums, just in case anyone else needs it I'll post it here:
Download RegDelNull here and place in C:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...egDelNull.mspx
Download MoveOnBoot from here:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html
Regedit (or more specifically..Securom) will not allow deleting of Securom Registry keys, hence the need for Regnull.
From command prompt (assuming RegDelNull is in root of C, type/paste
C:\regdelnull HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2052111302-1757981266-725345543-500\Software\SecuROM -s
(Im assuming this key is the same for all users..you can check yourself using Regedit)
When asked to delete..choose Yes
Do the same with this Key from command prompt (Start..Run):
C:\regdelnull HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SecuROM -s
Now run MoveOnBoot and navigate to the "hidden" securom folder in:
Docs and Settings\Admin\AppData\Securom
I chose 3 files for removal upon reboot. After I rebooted, Securom
wasnt in registry or Docs & settings folder.
Delete UAService7.exe from your windows/system32 folder. -
Not OT at all. The method was already posted here.
-
I really enjoyed the demo, but after reading about this securom junk, I dunno if i even want to bother with the retail game. Anybody know if the demo contains the SecuROM install?
BTW, I scanned with AVG Anti-Rootkit, and found nothing. -
Yes lucas, it does. See my thread above for more info on it and how to delete it.
The Microsoft RootKitRevealerv1.71 can show you where it is. -
Thanks for the info. +1 rep. I would really like to play this great game, but I refuse to buy the retail copy until it is DRM free (which probably won't be any time soon). 2kgames doesn't leave me many options...
-
does the steam version have any of this secure rom rootkit stuff?
-
If I remember correctly....yes :/
It's attached to Bioshock so Bioshock NEEDS secuROM to run.
Quote form Steam's Bioshock Page:
Contains SecuROM copy control software. Installations limited to five PCs per license
Seems like alot more people are going to wish they bought Bioshock through steam. Even though there's still a limit :/
