I don't mind using multiple clients. Obviously, I don't want to use that many, but "you gotta work with what you got."
The Galaxy client was updated and isn't half-bad these days. Used to be a horrible mess.

Still doesn't support Windows scaling :/

You just have to go in and change the video settings to full screen (in game). Not a big deal.
-
I mean the Galaxy client itself, not the game. It suffers from the same problem as Origin. It just outright ignores the Windows scaling options and consequently looks tiny on high DPI displays.

Really? It looks fine at 125% scaling on my laptop... -
What?! Are you sure? Because I have scaling at 200% and it definitely looks teeny tiny. Maybe I'm missing out on some hidden setting?

Maybe "Disable window scaling at high DPI settings" in the compatibility window of the Galaxy executable? -
No, not really, although I'm looking more at how badly Steam handles mods in the Workshop than pay-for expansions. As cluttered as the Windows Installer method is it's still better than the Steam Workshop.
Last I looked (maybe two weeks ago) it wasn't half good. I'll stick with the old GOG downloader for now, thankyouverymuch. -
I had the same thing with Origin on the P35Xv3. 125% worked fine but 150% was ignored and everything was tiny instead.
-
That does nothing, sadly.
I can understand the lack of true high DPI support for now (though I want to see it sooner rather than later) but the lack of any scaling whatsoever really grinds my gears! -

I can't imagine what sort of nightmare it would be if I had 100+ uninstallers for all of those Skyrim mods...Ionising_Radiation likes this. -
I'd still take it over the Steam Workshop. The Workshop that automatically downloads and installs mods without my intervention or approval. Maybe there's bugs in a new version. Maybe I don't like a gameplay change in a new version. Maybe the installation process requires some in-game action like stopping a quest script or saving in an empty room with no NPCs. Too bad. The Workshop rams the newest version, and only the newest version, down subscribers' throats whether they like it or not. A proper mod manager is preferable to both. Lacking one, the clutter of Windows Installer is preferable to the nightmare of Steam Workshop.

Witcher 3 is 10% off on GOG's DRM-Free Summer Sale today. The single purchase is enough (at least it is in the US) to get you the three freebie games: SC2K, STALKER: Clear Skies, and Xenonauts.

hmmm...seems like the game is blocking outside function keys like Alt-F9 for shadowplay

In full-screen mode it does block that... You u will need to either switch to borderless or uae alt+tab -
Hmm, curious. I wonder how/why that is. There must be a workaround somehow. To be able to block key commands seems a bit odd.
-
Witcher 3 is one of a couple games that blocks the Fn key for me, even in borderless windowed.
-

I can still adjust the brightness. set my computer to sleep and switch on Num/Scroll Lock in full screen mode. The only thing I can't do is adjust anything related to sound, so I have to Alt+Tab out. I see the same behaviour in Skyrim and TW2 as well. -
Ahh. Maybe it is just the sound, I usually don't use Fn for anything other than that on a regular basis. Skyrim was the other game. Interesting..
-
it was working in 1.04 i could take screenshots with F12 and record in shadowplay but now i can't.
-
I think like previously stated it might just be sound volume. I usually don't use the Fn stuff outside of that in a game, or anywhere else for that matter. I'll try it next time I play.
-
FINALLY! I installed the game today, BUT... I have 4 exams at uni in the next 6 days. I will probably not play until next week's Thursday afternoon.
Anyway, keep your fingers crossed for me please.

Why do you torment yourself with such temptations, isn't the pressure of studying enough?

Just an update: With an MSI Afterburner overclock on the 650m (and some .INI tweaks), I'm running this at 30FPS (locked) at 1366x768 with bloom, high textures, medium details, and most settings at low. Looks quite good despite the aged Kepler card w/1GB ram. Good enough for the road when I'm away from my main gaming rig.
So, Witcher 3 definitely runs on the 2012 rMBP (w/650m, 8GB, i7).LanceAvion and HTWingNut like this. -
For me the game crashes if I try overclocking x)

Yep, runs on the 940m too.
-
Why is GPU clock locked at just 540MHz? Or perhaps MSI Afterburner is reporting the clock incorrectly?
-
Reported incorrectly. If you see at the beginning and end of the video I show the clock speeds in GPU-z and nVidia Inspector.
-
It actually runs halfway decent on my i7u/840m setup as well (lowest detail, though). Sort of didn't think that would work.
Honestly haven't played an open world game before where it's interesting to just walk around and look for stuff. Sort of wish they would have created a few more events that progress in the background when you're not looking, that aren't scripted. Like battles going on without you, or the town going about it's business with trials or alderman campaigns while you're off trekking in the forest, and things of that sort. But genuinely impressed by what they've done with the contained events.. compared to other open world games, it's in a different league..
Reward afterwards?

Is it just me who lost 20 percent with the 1.05 patch? I have sli 980Ms and not only need to turn off Hairworks.. I have to drop to high.... If I want 50+all the time.
And I have a +100/+100 oc... And that's with Prema's vbios!!!!!Ionising_Radiation likes this. -

The game, or at least, the drivers are as unstable as ever. Crashing every several hours or so.
EDIT: By the way, there's a hotfix patch 1.06 available: see here.Last edited: Jun 15, 2015Ethrem and zizimonzter like this. -
Maybe if I feel like giving this game another chance I'll check out that patch.
-
I was overclocking my 980m with 135/200 to play it on 50 ~60fps with the occasional freeze and crash on the latest Nvdia drivers.
After I change it to the previous driver I'm managing 60 fps most of the time with no freeze so far.
So yeah, the latest driver is crap, for my case at least -
Hi guys,
I have an np8652-S and I started playing witcher 3 in ultra. For some reason, I get max 45fps but everyone else is getting 60fps. My control center is in performance, i turned nvidia hariworks off, shadow to high, power plugged in and its running in full screen. Any idea why this is happening? What are the geforce settings that are recommended? -
After 92 hours I finished the main story quests (and as many side quests as I could find). I stand by my earlier statement, great game... the only thing I didn't do was explore all points of interest on the map. I did as many as I could on the main continent and did maybe 1/3 of islands before I got burnt out on exploration.
The only thing that I can complain about is after the games conclusion it does the same thing that Mass Effect 3 did where it essentially says: You've completed the game, now you can still play in this world for the DLC... so we're just going to undo the last 1 hour of epicness you just spent through.
Now time to catch up on a few 10-20 hour games to fill the void before MGS:TPP in September. -

I think this is the GOTY but MGS5 or that fallout 4 lol might make a last minute steal for the crown lol Anyway, asside from that whitcher 3 is a masterpiece and I am still amazed it even runs on my ancient laptop. cdpr just needs to release a modding kit with full control and they will give bethseda a run for its money.
-
Define "ancient laptop" because mine's is getting pretty old now haha

hp dv6 from late 2009, dual core i5 540m, 1gb ati card 5xxx series, 8gb ram, 500gb 5400rpm hd, 1366x768 lcd screen. The graphics card or hp bios does not allow any driver updates and had to be kept oem from 2010. Its far below the lowest specs for witcher yet it can still run the game at 1152x648 res with lowest possible settings. The only thing is that indoor areas slow the frame rate but outdoors game runs about 20-25 fps.
I recently stopped playing witcher3 and I only play Batman AC, mgs gz, @I goof around in gta5. I am only playing those because they are so well optimized and run very smoothly @720p. I will return to witcher 3 when I upgrade my machine later this year or early 2016. Witcher 3 can work but it is the slower of the bunch and I want to play the game with better settings.Although it still looks great at the lowest settings I want to play the game the way its meant to be played at better settings.
btw your laptop would be a substantial upgrade to mine lol you call yours old but mine is ancient lol.Last edited: Jun 29, 2015 -
I haven't tried the game in a week or two, but I was running it all maxed, hairworks on, no vsync with 60fps caps and I was running basically at 60fps. Granted, I only played the beginning and up to the first town, so maybe it will get super taxing later.
-
Oh, yeah that's pretty outdated. I'm really surprised it can run the game at all, given all the problem I've heard about on non Maxwell machines.

Took some nice screenshot after finally managed to get the freecam working =D

There's no way... Hairworks beats the crap out of my system now... I found out my earlier benchmarks were wrong. Hairworks was enabled but not working... I average 53FPS in the open world and 47FPS in towns... Turning it off gives me 60+

So I finally beat this game...I had basically all the side quests in Skellige left so I'll probably start over because I missed that stupid Zoltan card in the beginning but w/e. This game thus far is probably the best game to come out this year. I REALLY hope this isn't the last Witcher game.

It probably is the last one with Geralt as the protagonist. I look forward to Cyberpunk 2077, though. Until then, I still will have Fallout and Witcher 3, which I want to take my time with. -
Getawayfrommelucas Notebook Evangelist
Eh I think they can make it go further with Geralt. Without spoiling the ending - I'll just say its like most witcher games, very open ended ending. -
In lines without spoiling the ending (which seems there are several based on your dialogue choices)... I kind of want a spin off series with Ciri. I think there are plenty of ways that could go with her ability to hop between worlds.
I also am looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077, got a laugh at the little nod they put in the Witcher 3 about it. -
Getawayfrommelucas Notebook Evangelist
Yeah - its hard to talk about it without spoiling it. lol
It would awesome with Ciri and being able to hop through worlds.
