Non-overclocked 970. Overclocked 980M. Why is it still that much faster? :S

GPU load is at 99% majority of the time. It'd be a lot lower if there was a CPU bottleneck I think.

I guess that the extra memory bandwidth of the desktop 970 gives it the edge, despite the core being slower than an overclocked 980M?

    You mean NVCA$H?

The 970 and 980m are nearly identical only the 970 has much faster vRAM which really shouldn't matter and a few more cores... I wouldn't imagine it would make that much difference.

To be honest, he wasn't running a frame counter when I watched him play so don't know the exact difference.

I'll get him to run a frame counter next time and then I'll know just how badly it beats my precious 980M.

You guys, c'mon, it's rude to laugh at handicapped GPUs...

Anyway, I finally got back home and tried out Death March difficulty. I like it! I like it a lot! Have to play it a bit differently now, a bit more careful, but overall more suitable for this game.
Now to install some mods for horse galloping...

Well, I know I am not far into the game, but running around with trusty horsepal, as well as fighting random enemies and after completing random quests... I do run most of the time 60fps locked, all maxed without vsync and no AA in hairworks when enabled.

Looks quite stunning and runs great.
Remember that, depending on the version of the GTx970, it does have higher clocks for both memory and core and higher core count. Depending on how the game taxes the system, those small advantages should give higher minimum fps and higher average that might make it feel smoother.

the CPU shouldn't be a problem. If I knock hairworks and I don't remember which other setting (I think foliage?) I can run with vsync at 96fps. So CPU should be enough.

You guys, I have a life or death question - can you bang Yennefer, but opt for Triss later?
Basically get them sexy time scenes with Yennefer, then when doing Triss quest line commit to her (in a Witcher kind of way), and later on say Yen to sod off. Will what work? There seems to be no definitive answer to this question on teh interwebz. And yes, I know there's an option to get them all at once, which later blows up in Geralt's face... *sigh* Fantasy game my butt!!!

P.S. Now what I read my question, no wonder I'm still single (that and FSX)... Oh well, there's always Plan B for both me and Geralt...

I thought I'd share this little tweak I always forget to reset when I update my drivers - but forcing my CPU to handle PhyX via the control panel has made a night/day difference for me.

And...nVidia GPU driver just failed on me...again...
Oh well, I guess it's its way of saying that it is too late (~02:30), and that I should stop playing TW3 and go to sleep.
Hopefully this will give me some time to think about what should I do with Selma - kill or spare her life.

Initially i bought the game for my X1 since i doubted that my laptop would be able to run the game fluently. Got to Velen and did the major quests there but for reasons regarding the latest patch and the problems it caused to X1 framerate i decided to "try" this game with my laptop.

I can run it in Full HD, fps locked to 30, with a mix of high/medium/low settings and the game looooks so much better and the gameplay is very fluent + the loading times are much faster compared to the console.

Now i'm starting Velen again and even managed to beat the nilfgaardian gwent dude immediately after talking with Emhyr. Also i'm not going to release that damned spirit from the tree this time. I was crushed mentally by the results i got by doing that the last time.

I'm glad i decided to switch the platform. :)

    There's more to come!
Still won't change a damn thing... Though Bloody Baron gets a better ending.

EDIT: Almost done with Of Swords And Dumplings quest and really liking it! It's good that there are plenty of quests with humour in the game, which sort of balance out the otherwise very dark game.
Some select Geralt quotes from the quest:
" *quetly* Hattori, I'm gonna kill you."
"How did I get sucked into this? And why?"
His sword better be worth it!

I just can't get into this game. There's constant hitches and stutters and glitches no matter what drivers I use. It's a mess. I've restarted several times and reinstalled a couple times and the intro is borked now since 1.07. The training session is messed up. I know I'm one of the few, but it's just borked for me.

That's odd, as you have a better machine than I do, and I can't get enough of the game, runs silky smooth, no issues, 40+ hours in...

I will admit, if you aren't willing to commit a couple hours at a time to play, it doesn't work... I played Witcher 1 for ten hours or so and lost interest, never got into Witcher 2, but man, Witcher 3 is something else and absolutely fantastic if you give it a chance and are willing/able to sink in the hours. It is by no means a quick pick up and play game. The beginning is just that, and it gets better literally the longer you play.

Performance wise, I just limit the framerate to 50 on my rig, and at high/ultra settings @ 1080p movement and combat are buttery smooth.

I buy a ton of games, but few suck me in and I just tinker with them as a hobby; Witcher 3 truly is a difference experience.

Having said all this, I don't dare play until I have an hour or ten to kill, as it sucks you in and requires the time. Otherwise, I play something else.

What do you use to lock framerate?

I think I have a problem - I can't put this game down. Last time I checked I've spent 3 days and 18 hours playing TW3... After that I played TW3 some more, so it's more like 100 hours now... In two weeks...
I will agree with be77solo, this game needs time and that it gets better the more you play. If you can't spend at least an hour playing it, you might not enjoy it so much.
Like some review mentioned, this game's biggest flaw is literally having to quit your job or drop out of university. Good thing there are holidays. If not for them I would have been screwed...

OK. I did one last uninstall and reinstall of the game, and started over AGAIN for about the twelfth (what an ugly word) time and so far seems to be running fine. I'm afraid I *would* lose myself in this game like I did Skyrim ages ago. I don't have that kind of time to sink into a game right now unfortunately, unless I neglect my children, my job, and give up sleep... alright, I'm in!

I think Keira's/Triss'/Yen's bewbs are totally worth it.

Do any of you are having with fist fights in Dandelion's quests on Death March? Seems nearly impossible, 2v1 at cramped location. Few times came close, but in the end said "plough it."
Seems like Geralt can take on pretty much any monster out there, except for the most monstrous monster of them all - human in a knuckle fight...

    PERFORMANCE:
    • Overall improvements to performance, including some issues that may have been caused by 1.07.

    UI:
    • [Japanese Only][PS4 Only] Fixes an issue where the background text of certain books would flicker.
    • Fixes an issue where part of the Kaer Morhen map would not display properly.

    GAMEPLAY:
    • Fixes a rare issue where items would disappear from the stash.
    • Fixes a very rare issue which would cause Geralt to get stuck when trying to run.
    • The interaction pop-up will no longer appear on lootable objects that are empty.
    • Fixes an occasional glitch in one of the dwarf combat animations.
    • Heads chopped off during finishers will no longer disappear.
    • "Players can perform a roll just before landing to significantly reduce the damage caused by falling.
    • We've added a tutorial pop-up window explaining this to make it clearer."
    • In patch 1.07, the level requirements for certain items were scaled up, leaving some players stuck with only unusable gear. With patch 1.08, we are introducing the Wolven Hour potion. This potion will be available in everyone's inventory once they install the patch. It will reduce level requirements on all gear for a period of one hour. This will give players time to level up or find alternative equipment using the gear that was available to them in patch 1.05 but became unusable after patch 1.07. After one hour, the potion's effects will cease and the requirements for all gear will revert to their original, pre-potion values.
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to compare their items with ones sold by merchants.

    ACHIEVEMENTS:
    • Players will now be able to complete the Card Collector achievement.
    • Achievements are now working properly again and will be unlocked if players meet their requirements after installing this patch (PC version).

    GRAPHICS:
    • Fixes an issue where interiors would sometimes not display properly on the minimap.
    • Fixes an issue where certain world elements would sometimes be missing and noticeable visual glitches would be present while in Novigrad.

    QUEST:
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to finish the "It Takes Three to Tango" quest, even though they had obtained wine at the Kingfisher.
    • Fixes an issue where Geralt would sometimes die after traveling to Velen in the quest "Something Ends, Something Begins."
    • The entrance to the area where the Sunstone is obtained will no longer be blocked off if the player exits it prematurely during "The Sunstone" quest.
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to complete the "Get Junior" quest on certain occasions.
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to finish the "Scavenger Hunt: Viper School Gear" quest due to a closed gate.
    • Fixes an issue where some players were unable to investigate rooms during the "Family Matters" quest, effectively blocking their progression.
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to finish the "Hey, You Wanna Look at my Stuff?" quest.
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to talk to Roche during the "An Eye for an Eye" quest.
    • Fixes an issue where Roche would stay at his camp instead of going to the Oxenfurt Bridge in the "Get Junior" quest.
    • Fixes an issue where, under certain circumstances, Yennefer would not appear in Oxenfurt during the "The Great Escape" quest.
    • Drowners will have a harder time killing Nidas during the "Black Pearl" quest.
    • Fixes an issue which led to an infinite loading screen during the "To Bait a Forktail..." quest under certain circumstances.
    • Fixes a rare issue where the basement was locked during the "King's Gambit" quest.
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to free the merchant during the Person in Distress event in the Claywich area.
    • The trolls at the Circle of Elements will no longer attack Geralt if he opts for a peaceful resolution.
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to talk to Roche during the "Brothers in Arms" quest.
    • Fixes an issue where Zoltan's card was unobtainable.

    GENERAL:
    • Preparatory features paving the way for the introduction of New Game + in the future.

Still no news about that iron door bug in White Orchard cemetery crypt. Good to hear they'll fix issues with that dwarf seller in Novigrad and Nidas quest, though I have already completed the last. Was tough, but I've made it.
I also with they would rebalance fist fight on Death March difficulty. They are they out of balance.

I too thought about playing TW2 first and waiting till TW3 will be fully patched, but I couldn't wait. I just couldn't resist TW3. And now I'm addicted to it...

Geralt certainly is a rational chap - when at brothel, there is no need to wear pants!

Also, looks at that smile! I know, it does look like a grin than a smile at that angle, but I can assure you that Geralt is truly happy!

P.S. please don't tell Triss about it, or he might get in trouble...

Aww yes, my Gwent deck is begging to be populated with some nice cards, such as Geralt and Ciri. +15 strength, now we're talkin'!
Lambert, buddy, you're next! I need that Triss card, for reasons... Just need to advance the story a bit in order to be able to fast travel to Kaer Morhen.

So I just completed The Lord Of Undvik. Man, that a messed up quest. The whole quest takes place on a small island, where you have to find out what happened to the ship crew and search for survivors. Almost missed one. Would be funny if I did, he was about to be made into a SPOILER stew for the trolls SPOILER.
Took me more than an hour to complete it, but in the end I managed to save all the idiots.
Now to move up to more bigger matters.

P.S. Am I the only one here?

No, you're not. I'm playing it slow, i've waited for this the last 2-3 years or so and i've read all the books (which can be bought in english) too. Atm i'm @ lvl 11 and i think i should proceed to Novigrad. Need to find a journeyman blacksmith for my Griffin sword schematics. :)

Level 11?!? Do you even slay monsters, brah?
I'm currently level 22, 6 days and 6 hours later... See you are a fan of Griffon school gear as well. I currently am sporting enhanced Griffon armour set, but I don't use any of the swords. I only crafted sword once, later to find a better one. Since then all of the swords I have ever owned were found while exploring. So far had found so many relic swords with nice bonus stats and rune sockets. I should probably start searching for superior Griffon gear set though...
Don't remember when exactly I went to Novigrad, but I was pretty high level at that time. Some of the local quests were already marked grey.
Now if you excuse me, I have too much crap in my inventory. So much, that even Zerrikanian saddlebags coupled with Fiend decoction can't help me. I need to somehow unload all those relic swords and armours. Where's the damn armor/weapon smith on Skellige when you need them? Too lazy to travel to Novigrad...

    @killkenny1

I do, but i started playing only something like 2-3 weeks ago. I bought it immediately after the release for X1 but i only started it recently. I played it with X1 until lvl 10 but then decided to switch the platform to PC, which of course required a restart in campaign. :)

I've mostly found too much armor in the game, not so much usable swords. Maybe this changes as the game progresses? I'm not shure which school's gear i like most, but Griffin is the first one you can use with my low character levels (after viper ones). I'm playing with blood & broken bones difficulty which is nice and provides nice challenge. Though my beefed up Yrden sign is sometimes too powerful against mobs (the first two upgrades 2/2 & 3/3).

What playstyle do you prefer? So far i've specced into melee & signs, alchemy tree doesn't offer anything good compared to melee & signs since every alchemy product use is restricted except oils..

The only reasons to buy TW3 on Xbone is Gwent card deck or very outdated PC. Otherwise you made a right choice coming back to the bright side
Lol, I too use Griffon armour because it's available at low level. I may switch to Cat armour, it has nice stamina stats, but on the other hand it looks kinda ghey. Oh well, we'll see... By the way, Griffon armour boosts signs, so if you like to use signs, it's an appropriate armour for that task.
I use pretty much everything at my disposal, except for oils. Not a fan of alchemy/crafting UI in TW3. Actually, most of the UI in TW3 is useless. Bestiary, where the hell is a search function?!?
But yeah, most of the time I find it just easier to run into a fight, cast some signs, throw some bombs (man, I love bombs, they come in handy during more powerful enemies), Tawny Owl/Swallow/some decoction, ???, profit!

Anyway, a local feast at Skellige was attacked by... Ready? Ready?
Half man, half bear like creatures

Good thing there are no manbearpigs in TW3... I think even Geralt would be powerless against them. Only Al Gore would be able to save us!
