Someone is going to retest RX480 again, but this time in P870DM(G).
We realise that 870dm has AMDdGPUDxe, and it can recognise 8970M in BIOS.
Other clevo laptops 7XXDM/ZM does not have this module in the BIOS. Even 870DM2/3 does not have this module inside BIOS.

i think if 870DM is successful, there is a high chance of success in extracting that module into other BIOSes and bringing RX480 back into the game.

Eh guys question. is it possible to replace the chip of the lcd connector from LVD to EDP ? And if possible What chip type and settings in the bios will appear on the video type? If the bios is Unlock.

    I've got an MSI GT60-ivy bridge .

It isn't a chip, it is a connector. You buy the socket and solder it on if and only if your motherboard supports it and has a place to solder it. It can be difficult to do, but there are videos.

Meanwhile, if you have a ZM, you can buy the other version of the MB with an eDP connector, buy the cable and display, then have fun.

Edit: I wrote to zotac asking if they sell the mxm card separately. I'll post when I get a reply.

Unless it's the E9550, I recommend they undervolt the RX 480 as low as it can go before doing anything intensive with it

P177SMA with Clevo GTX1060. (just look at the pictures if you do not understand chinese)
The owner who did this said detailed steps will not be disclosed to the public as he does not want clevo on his doorstep ;)
    Link: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/4917906844

(870DM)on another note, RX 480 still have the same issue. Loud fan spinning at startup, auto shutdown in 1min. GPUZ shows steady temperature of 40deg~

16L1: RX480 did not auto shutdown but screen did not light up.

I'd like to know where they got the 8pin power from for the Clevo 1060.

The MSI 1070 had the same 'EC panic' issue in Clevos until the bypass wire was figured out (and now even that isn't needed)

Just need to get someone onto it who knows about how to spoof the signal

I just PM'ed the person, I will post here after he replies me.
From the picture, it looks like he only used 2pin. One ground, one power, and he soldered it onto the connector itself, he didn't plug into it. He probably drew power from mxm3.0.

Most likely he drew power from the power input directly. If he draws from the connector he might overload the power line. Where's the difference? The MXM's power supply lane should be designed (some design it for less) for 10A peak (~195W) and even if it is this is for a peak load, continuous might fry it (depends on a few factors). Soldering to the power connector or somewhere around it would greatly reduce this stress, since we all know that it can take in excess of 330W (it came stock with two 330W bricks after all).

nice :) AS is fine for initial testing, but if u wanna put any continuous load onto the card id recommend IC diamond, GC Extreme or Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

He replied saying only dm2/dm3 required ec signal, other laptops do not require ec signal for the card to function. The point of the EC signal is to convert high electrical level (db? not really sure of all these electronic names) into a lower electrical level, so it is not really a detection system.
and he said he drew power from mxm/power input directly.

I think I may have confused things by not specifying my comment regarding the EC signal was about the RX480 beeping and shutdown in the P870DM. FYI it *is* a widespread thing in Clevos, its not restricted to the P870DM2/3 at all

It's good confirmation though that the Clevo 1060 gives a compatible signal that keeps an older Clevo laptop's EC happy and not doing the beeping/1min shutdown thing

    Crapatalk?

    Hello!

I will have the ZBOX tomorrow (I hope to have the chance to go Laredo to pick it up), by now, a friend of mine (Marco Polo) mod the Heatsink with a Dremel to make it compatible with the Zotac MXM 1070 Card.

I know this is not the 100W heatsink, but I just want it to check if it boots and works, if it does, I will request Marco Polo's help once again to do the same with the 100W heatsink in order to perform more tests.

Are you using LVDS 60Hz/Optimus by any chance ? eDP 120Hz is needed / Win7 (Legacy Boot, wont work even with Maxwell need a Full UEFI boot, 7 has partial UEFI support - Go Win8.1 / Win10)

First of all Contact @woodzstack he knows more about the legacy machines and their upgrades, also a reputed NBR member & Please Start a new thread at Alienware 17 Subforum, Godspeed !!

Yeah 8 beeps is the code for no video subsystem - it can mean many things, in your case probably tripping UEFI/Legacy /digital/analogue issues from Pascal.

The suggested explanation was silly (I have a severe flu) as it wouldn't have worked on the external either then if you have a legacy Windows installation (in which case you won't be able to boot without the legacy option).

I'd like to upgrade my Dell M6700 to 1070 one day if possible. It also has an eDP screen, though I couldn't install Windows 7 in UEFI mode for some reason. Windows 10 booted though during the product key upgrade process so there's always that option.

Oh no! They ground off the part of the heatsink that makes contact with the power components at the end of the board. Now you will have to use 5mm or so pads to make those parts make contact. The little black chips at the top of the card need to be cooled or the card will fail prematurely. Use the pictures from my thread to see how I modified my heatsinks.

    Oh! You are right!

Another issue, is like the fan is not workin....

Is there a way you can share your VBIOS so I can flash this card with it?

Maybe this solve the issues, or do you think Prema could mod the VBIOS and fix it?

My vbios is msi and at the moment, last I checked there was no flash utility available to consumers. Prema seems to be staying out of the mxm situation at the moment and the msi forum modder I asked said he isn't aware of any available options for the mxm 1070 cards yet.
The gpu fans in the alienware 17 r1 Ranger (which I believe is the laptop you have, same as mine) have terrible fan control tables. My fans don't even spin up until 55*C and don't hit full speed until 75*C. And the stock fans are so low flow that you may never hear them over the cpu. I upgraded my fan to the m17x r3 gpu fan THPDJ part number. Don't quote me on that part number but I believe it's close. It's 10.2 cfm or so and much much better than the stock fan.

EDIT: Put in the proper fan part number.
