At the moment Pascal will only flash signed official vBIOS. You could try the MSI vBIOS, it should flash no problem with NVFLASH since both are 1070 MXM, but there is no guarantee it would work since the cards are not the same. It's possible it would work and get the display working,it's also possible it won't and the card would be bricked until you could flash back. My guess is that you don't have a display because the card was pulled from a mini pc that was always going to use an external display.

If you want my MSI vBIOS I will share it with you.

@Striker1234 First take the backup of the vBIOS of that card and maybe we shouldn't try to cross flash it because the manufacturer is not "MSI" for that card as you said it was "Pcpartner". A wrong flash making it go brick would render it useless and irreversible bad flash is really a giant road block not worth the hassle.

As a caution need to talk with one who's expert in this and take it in small steps - Test the card's max clocks and gaming performance, getting the proper driver working for it, benchmarking and then compare it with the other 1070 versions - MSI 1070N / Clevo 1070 Desktop 1070 GTX GPU, Also look out for throttling in specific cases, measure the Temperature deltas, TDP, Power pull in the specific cases (Firestrike, 3DM11, Heaven, AAA games) in the mean time since it's booting, getting detected properly over external display outputs.

Maybe @Prema could chime in if he's free, Woodz should know about the vBIOS also.

    Hello!

At the moment I could not perform any benchmark, the fan for the video card is not working, but it works with the 970M, I also use hwinfo64 and when the 1070 is installed, the fan is not detected.

I'm thinking to use the same fan power supply of the processor and set the speed on max in order to perform the benchmarks...

    What do you think?

Since the 1070 Zotac is a proper MXM factor card, and works with the MSI vBIOS, we should be turning our attention to the MAGNUS EN1080. That would be icing on the cake if it is a 3.0B form factor 1080 in there. Too bad I have no eDP systems to test myself :(

indeed. still, would be nice to know! besides, if it IS a standard MXM form factor, it stands to reason that its TDP is way lower than comparable 1080 cards... also, downclocking is always easier than overclocking (to keep temps in check) :p :D

just too bad the 970M doesnt seem to work in the zotax zbox, makes selling it off to balance out the upgrade cost a bit harder

Hmm, but Zotac used to sell EN970 which presumably used 970M's. Perhaps a vBIOS from those would help?

    Here they say it's really a 970M: NVIDIA GTX 960 (as per drivers),'a rebadged GTX 970M (hardware-wise)'.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/9660/zotac-zbox-magnus-en970-review-a-gaming-minipc-done-right

    Also in other reviews:

    http://www.hardwareluxx.com/index.p...wed-zotac-zbox-magnus-en970-p-be.html?start=1

So, it is a 970M MXM module it seems (what else would fit in this box), they just renamed it to '960' perhaps because they're aiming for the desktop market and the performance is about right if not better..

Perhaps even Zotac customer support might provide one given a convincing enough email (e.g. I flashed my graphics card by mistake with a wrong 960 firmware and don't have a backup..).

    Thanks to all for this!

I would like to have that VBIOS to flash it on my 970M, I do not want to have a heavy paperweight... I would like to use it as Media Center or sell it cheaper if it works...

If you really want to force it use prema mods flasher and rename the vbios to whatever he has his vbios saved as. Then run is auto flash batch file and it will flash your vbios. But again... BE CAREFUL. If the ram on your 970 isn't listed on the new vbios the card will not boot and you will have to put the card into something like an m15x and blind flash it.

The only way to know is to use a vbios editor and see if it has the ram tables for whatever brand of ram the card has. I only mentioned prema as his automated flasher makes flashing 9xx cards much easier.

    I don't think it's possible. I've tried the same with 1060 board 1C20 and 1C60.
nvflash does not recognize switches -4 -5 -6 anymore.
    --protectoff did not help.

@Prema supported me, he modded the VBIOS so I can flash it, and He did very well!, the 970M inside the Alienware behaves like the Zotac GTX 1070, no video on internal display, I had to use an external monitor to validate it works and in fact it looks like 960 with 6GB, so the VBIOS was the correct one!

I tried on the Zotac Computer, but I only get 2 immediately beeps followed by 1 continous beep every second...

I think they locked the computer to only accept 1070 or 1060 (Same motherboard).

It is a shame to have this little monster as a paperweight...

Thanks @Prema for your support I'm about to donate for this.

Note: If any of you have any idea how to make the EN1070 Working without videocard I would appreciate your help!

I'm selling the 970M (With original VBIOS) and fully working. I accept offer by PM.

It would be nice to know what ID is being whitelisted here? Perhaps it could then be edited in the vBIOS and flashed over to pass the check (e.g. like the 960 name - maybe it can be changed to 1060?).

Hi Prema, Just wondering how did Striker1234 got Zotac 1070 working after using MSI 1070 vbios?

Edit: Ok after re-reading the post, i'm not sure whether the card is working with the fan after flashing vbios, or he just meant that the card boots up the internal screen.

The AW EC can interpret the Zotac sensor, but the Zotac box can not handle the standard MXM cards sensor and won't post. Hence he can not put his current GPU into the Zotac box to sell it.
And since Zotac doesn't sell any standalone GPUs, unless you have money to through away, I would suggest to forget about them for MXM upgrades and use MSI/Clevo cards.

Thanks for the clarification, just another quick question, about the previous RX480. So even if we use HWinfo to set the fan speed for RX480, it will still shutdown after 1min?

Depends on the embedded controller firmware of the system you are trying to use it.
In genereal Dell sensor style based AMD cards do not work in any stock Clevo firmware and at this point there is no Clevo version of the RX480.
