you can't do the MSI 1070 for sure, only the MSI 1060. that's the only one that will fit into the laptop.
If you're coming from the 980DT then it's not worth the money. But if you're coming from the 980M then you'll see a boost and maybe a bit better if you modded the vBIOS.
-
-
I've got 980m with 8GB, You think 1060 will be faster? It fits but where can I buy MSI 1060 working with Clevo? Do I have to change GPu bios? Where can I get modded vBios?
-
The 1060 is faster than the 980M by 15% in FS scores. If you think that's good then buy it.
Average FS graphics scores on NBC.net:
980M - 9695.5
1060 (Laptop) - 11428.6
1060 (Desktop) - 12816
980 (Laptop) - 13111.2
With a modded vBIOS that has the same TDP as the desktop 1060 and you should be able to match the graphics scores with the notebook 1060. Stock 1060 laptop is 78W and stock 1060 desktop is 120-140W going from the vbios files I looked at. Add an OC on top and you'll probably be close enough to match a 980 laptop score....still pretty good for that card I say.
You'll need a chip programmer like the rest of us in order to flash the modded vBIOS.
E-Z-P-Z!!
It should fit into the P775DM1 considering it's the stock form factor.

If you think the price is worth it then by all means and buy it. -
Thank You very much for full explanation
I think its worth a try. What about the programmer? Is there any user guide how to use it and most important witch one to buy?
For clarification, GPU will boot up with default bios but has only low tdp limit? Programmer is needed only for changing to modded vbios?
Aliexpress offer is very atractive. Have someone from this forum, bought something from that seller? -
For info about modding the vBIOS, click here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/mobile-pascal-tdp-tweaker-update-and-feedback-thread.806161/
If you're looking at the 1060, try sending a PM to @woodzstack first before going aliexpress. I only provided it as reference for the form factor. It should fit but whether the heatsink fits the card is another thing you need to consider before going ahead with it. -
you can upgrade to MSI 1070 if you dont mind losing the M2 slot.

It does require some case modding.

I don't know if this has been addressed before, but does anybody know how the GT83VR is able to use pascal cards in SLI on a 18.4" LVDS panel? I know this is the same panel used in the Alienware 18, where is this magic happening??
-
IIRC that laptop has an internal eDP -> LVDS conversion. Which existed with HP machines too, the Dreamcolor panel machines they had some different internal mobo DP interface -> LVDS - Panel connection (50Pin !) which allows them for this totally different setup, Which also is the case with M15x which needs to be hacked/hard mod the external DP to LVDS conversion if one wants to make it compatible with Pascal.
The cable mods that are needed for those kind of setups is entirely a different story altogether afaik..
The level of shenanigans that these corporates pull off is reaching to new heights everyday.. -
Do i need modded inf driver to MSI 1060 if I want to put it in Clevo?
-
yes, because it's technically a "non-standard" card in terms of system config.
-
Did anyone in the forum put a MSI 1060 to Clevo? I would like to ask some details.
-

I watched this Eurocom video to understand what's going on with your model:
The height of the M.2 slot is just too high compared to the GPU when held in place and so an MSI 1070 would be a bad idea considering you would have to destroy the conflicting M.2 socket and that's bad for resale value. Nor will you be able to add in a slot if you wanted to down the road. I'd rather you keep the M.2 slot. Judging from your responses you're not as savvy with electronics so the idea of desoldering the M.2 slot might not be a good idea.
The MSI 1060 is a safer bet in terms of card fit over the MSI 1070. Can't even consider the Gecube 1070s because of their power delivery flaw and with the money you would have paid for an MSI 1070 you can buy an MSI 1060 + an M.2 drive, so that's a better value proposition I think.
Here's a quick photoshop render I did of how the MSI 1060 would look in the P775DM1:
I am under the assumption that the heatsink is 980DT and 980M compatible and this basic visualization leads me to believe the heatsink should fit just fine without any modification. Worst case: you may need to sand down the bend just below where the 3 power chokes are, much like the image below in the mod job I did for my 1070 upgrade.
Overall I think the case for a 1060 upgrade in a P775DM1 is plausible.
Honestly I am surprised that no one else, including Eurocom, have tested to confirm this works or not. Sure you may be the first here to do so if you're daring to try and you got the cojones to spend the money on it.
EDIT: The only thing you will need to check is if the laptop will function when the 1060 is installed without drivers first. If it does then it's a success already.Last edited: Jul 20, 2017 -
Got hold of the new vbios and it gave a nice performance jump on my clevo GTX1070.

Just mod the vbios already and get desktop 1070 level performance.
Setting it to 151 - 170 will score better than the desktop 1070. Thanks to nvidia for providing the extra SM cluster.

Why we cant just flash bios using nvflash? It is permanent lock for 1060?
-
Because all Pascal vbios files are digitally signed by nvidia and no one has been able to crack the certification checks within nvflash. If you try it'll fail and it won't flash.
The only way to bypass the checks is to flash to the vbios chip directly with a chip programmer. That's how most of us, like me, @Coolane, @Mr. Fox, have done it.
For you there's no point in worrying about flashing custom vbios roms because you haven't bought a 1060 to see if it works in your laptop.
So get the 1060 first and we'll go from there.

So if I bought the Clevo GTX 1060, and it wont work I cannot flash the vBIOS without a chip programmer? Sounds awfully complicated.bennyg likes this.

Theoretically it should work out of the box. You can flash unmodified vbios roms with nvflash but you may need a bit more help if no image appears.

The clevo 1060 has the same additional power connector as the 1070/1080
Whether it works without it? Unknown. Its not technically necessary for the lower power draw of the 1060.
Other 1060s (e.g. MSI) are MXM 3.0b and don't have it -
Only if you remove the M.2 slot and a capacitor. I personally think desoldering components just to get an upgrade to work is not acceptable and why I have marked the 1070 as incompatible.

The one I found is MXM 3.0b standard

EDIT:
I have found a big issue with trying to upgrade a Clevo GTX 1070 MXM 3.0 in the Clevo P150.
While it would fit if you cut away some plastic as you would think from looking at pictures of it, however there is two issues with the Clevo 1070 MXM card, its too wide on the left and it has this really strange extension in the upper right corner which is around 9mm long the right corner is easy to modify if you get rid of your subwoofer which I never use anyway.
The left extended section to the left however is 7mm which will interfere with one of the motherboard components, refer to the picture of the issues.
So this really just shows that Clevo P150 cannot take any of the MXM cards that exceeds the standard size to the left anyway, and on the right it cannot exceed too much either, I suppose this is one of the limits to having such a small laptop with so many high end components packed together.Last edited: Jul 22, 2017 -
Dude, this is not a clevo card - this is an MSI card. it's an upgrade kit for an older clevo. Clevo cards don't look like the one pictured.
if you want to but the MSI 1060, speak to @woodzstack.

He has better prices or does he pre-flash them?
-
They offer a cheaper price if you go direct to him than if you bought off their ebay store. @woodzstack actually prefers you just send him a PM because they don't have to pay the ebay fees. You could ask for it to be preflashed if they're willing to do it.
FYI they ship from Montreal.

Looks like this guy is giving the GTX1060 into the P775DM1-G upgrade a try.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/1060-upgrade-help.807349/
they're getting the same problem I did which is an incompatible vbios. I have posted a link to the official MSI vbios (which has gsync and non-gsync versions, you'll need to flash the non-gsync version) for it to work properly.
other than that I can probably confirm it'll work fine.
EDIT: I'm talking with them now over PM to get it working.
EDIT: Gents, we can now call the MSI 1060 upgrade for the P775DM1-G 100% confirmed. Since they had the gsync version of the 1060 then you'll need to flash the 1060 gsync vbios.
You're welcome.Last edited: Jul 27, 2017 -
The fit looks fine. The only concern is the heatsink fit.

can dremel it away but its the price thats the problem (for me)

the 1070 is too wide for some older models.

As my guilt grew ever stronger for having bought nVidia I sat down and scourged through Taobao and I found this strange "Rx 480" on MXM.

Could it possibly be the real thing or a sham? Because the most interesting thing about is the colour, not green nor blue but black and this could mean MSI card.

It won't work because the EC is incompatible with clevo.

Worst case scenario I think you would be able to onsell it to a miner for minimal loss. Pandaminer had rigs using optimised MXM 480's doing 35MH/s for about 80W each if I recall, which is very impressive and not far off where Vega is expected to be

Eurocom MXM3 Riser Cards will power your desktop with a laptop GPU
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Euroco...-your-desktop-with-a-laptop-GPU.241042.0.html
External GPU Thunderbolt docks are *so* 2016. These PCIe x16 adapters will accommodate an MXM 3.x Type-A or Type-B GPU from either Nvidia or AMD for connecting straight onto a standard PC motherboard.
While more and more manufacturers are scrambling to create eGPU docking solutions based on Thunderbolt 3, Eurocom has been looking the other way to create a hollow PCIe x16 desktop Riser Card for mounting MXM 3.x GPUs normally found on very high-end notebooks like the Eurocom Sky DLX7 or MSI GT72/GT75VR series. The goal is to enable users to easily utilize a laptop graphics card in a desktop or mini PC environment.
Two versions of the Eurocom Riser Card will be made available designed specifically for either AMD or Nvidia MXM GPUs. These cards will offer either 6-pin or 8-pin power connectors with multiple DisplayPort ports - features that are normally found on off-the-shelf desktop video cards but are otherwise missing on MXM video cards. Users can install up to the MXM GTX 1080 or MXM RX 580 and an included removable fan and heat sink will then sit atop the MXM card once it is mounted in place.
From a conceptual standpoint, the new PCIe x16 Riser Card introduces a lot of questions. Bandwidth shouldn't be an issue since PCIe x16 offers over three times the performance of Thunderbolt 3 (15.6 GB/s vs. 5 GB/s), but we're eager to see how the vBIOS will adapt to a completely new system that the original MXM GPU was never intended to synchronize with. Will the special fan be louder than a typical desktop graphics card? Will Turbo Boost performance be bottlenecked or even improved in any way?
The market for such MXM to PCIe adapters is likely very limited especially considering that MXM graphics cards are not currently sold as standalone products. Similar unofficial adapters already exist from Chinese vendors, but we'll soon be testing the Eurocom product to answer all our burning questions.
Release dates and prices will be made public in the coming weeks. In the meantime, see the official Whitepaper below.

I noticed Eurocom already offers 1070 in the Alienware 17 upgrade configurator:
http://www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,263,0)Alienware_17
No idea if it means standard 3.0b or they are physically modding peoples chassis and heatsink? I tried to contact them about it. And the representative just told me:
"If they are listed on the upgrade configurator for your notebook then they have been fully tested and we know they work."bennyg likes this. -
Eurocom seems to not be interesting in selling you anything unless they know it works for your laptop, so best to just lie to them and claim you got that laptop.
They would not even tell me the TDP of the 1070 MXM 3B card they would release because I had the wrong laptop whatever that means. -
It is for sale on their website. No need to contact them to buy it. Problem is if it is mxm 3.0b. Maybe @Eurocom Support know?
