Did anyone hear the rumors of the release date of the new Clevo P775DM/P870DM series with Coffee Lake CPUs? Will they be compatible with pascal and new Volta GPU?

Not sure this is the right thread for that discussion anyway, I seriously doubt any future Clevos will have anything MXM 3.0b from the factory

Sorry for the offtop but here lies the source of the problem: "MXM slot" :p and upgradeability. I believe Clevo will not give up modularity. Small PC's are becoming more and more popular, and they use MXM. Maybe MXM will die but in return they give something else. Changing GPU in laptops is something rare but in PC's is standard so some kind "mxm" should exist i think.

there aren't infos about volta yet
Eurocom gtx1070/gtx1080 mxm 3.0b cards are coming
coffee lake 6-cores cpus should be available in october and new clevos with those for the late of november

mxm cards will continue to exist because eurocom, clevo, msi, asrock, zotac, amd, tesla are pushing those

MXM will live on as a slot, so non-soldered GPUs will still be physically upgradeable.

The MXM 3.0b standard (think, 105x82mm rectangle PCBs) is not in use by Clevo. They have a single design for all their Pascals which is a bigger PCB (which is why no pascal clevos, or MSI 1070s/1080s fit into older laptops designed for rectangular 3.0b cards only, or in SLI in the P870DM or P570WM where the slots are too close together

    Yes.
Currently, the card works fine in laptops except that it will blackscreen when under heavy load such as 3Dmark and furmark.
The card works with no problem in those desktop boards.

I have been thinking of upgrading my P157SM-A from the current GTX870M to a GTX1060. However, from what I have seen on the Internet, a mod for the heatsink is required in order to get the best cooling for the GPU.

And I have no experience and am not confident at all to do it myself. Is there any reseller that would sell a modded heatsink together with a GTX1060?

I have acquired a strange Rx 480 MXM from Taobao and awaiting its arrival, the seller just lists it as Sapphire but because its a black card I am curious if it will work in my Clevo P150, the Geocube ones wont work at all hopefully the Eurocom ones will work.
I will post an update whether the system actually will boot or not with the card in slot, if yes then great news cause its cheap and they ship overseas, if not well oh well, I will just resell it then to miners.

HE got it for around 100bucks If I remember correcly.

Also I'm sure it will post but not run, because of the sensors, as far as I know the temp sensors will cause an issue with clevo.

Is the same issue present on Alienware m18x-r2 that not permit to start fan?
(because Hwinfo must be used to control fan on some gpus card from other vendor) or it not boot at all?
I like to try the new AMD gpus(on this old beast in Optimus/Enduro mode).

If the card posts, then it's very likely that it would work on alienware, but I don't know 100% since I didn't try myself. So your guess is as good as mine at this point.

I live in Norway, and its usually at most 1 month to ship from mainland China, Hong Kong is usually less than 2 to 3 weeks.

And I paid 2515 yuan for the card which is still almost half the price what you pay on eBay.
Considering the 1060N works in my laptop, I have some hope the 480 will too considering they both are eDP GPU's.

Having had nVidia now I can only say I am a little disappointed in the outdated control panel and lack of features. For some reasons the colours also look WORSE than what they did with my AMD GPU.
I also noticed nVidia has about just as many game issues with drivers as AMD does, and for some reasons I cannot even get BF1 to play because I need the latest drivers and trying to modify the drivers will break them and then I have to reinstall them but with AMD it was VERY easy for me to just change some files and I could bypass the BF1 latest driver idiocy whereas with nVidia the fastest option is to disable control panel which seem to make Optimus go bananas.
There reason I sold my GTX 1070 and bought Vega 56, I do not care for power consumption and the fact that the Vega 56 is close to its factory price where I live made me make profits selling 1070 and buy Vega which is a little funny considering in rest of the world, Vega is more expensive than 1070.

But the OpenGL performance with nVidia is WAAAAAY better than with AMD, or maybe M290X just had appallingly bad OpenGL drivers.
Looking forward to see if the 480 works or not, if it does I will celebrate with a bottle of champagne.

no. it is exactly the same.
Gecube already improved the design and inserted all the MOSFET already.

That picture is a old version of gecube's card.
the current one, looks exactly the same, with the top row all filled up.
If you dont believe me, you can ask Gecube for their current card pictures.

Link: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/5143947326 (2nd batch of testing)
Gecube used clevo/msi vbios with 115W,125W.
Eurocom used their own vbios at 100W.

I bet you that's all they did to the cards: reduce the TDP because the design or the components just can't handle the power or are just poor quality.

im checking out the baidu forum post. looks like eurocom take the safe route and reduce the TDP while gecube ones still have 115-125w tdp

on page 4 of the thread now, looks like they are no where near stable :( still fry

I personally expected them to use the gecube 1070. My concern is the potential length of the 1080 card. At 124mm that means the chassis of an alienware 17r1 would have to be modified. My 1070 has run at 135watts for 6 months. Sustained clock speeds of around 1620mhz usually pull 96w to 117w at 99% utilization. I dont know how much better made my zotac card is but i dont think its the best made 1070 in the world. Eurocom obviously cant make their own card and the fact that they even got gecube to work with them is amazing and incredible news for us upgradaholics. I can say that even though im really not that big a fan of eurocom.
