That is the problem with Taobao, one cannot order like from Aliexpress.

Yes it can

I might need to look into grabbing one of those FX-2280 adaptors now that I wont be using my second slot.

Im not holding my breath, but look forward to your friends results.yarema likes this.

It might also interfere with the heatsink I am getting now I think about it too. -

Clevo card on Alienware just need some minor hardware modification, IIRC kenglish did a tutorial about a 2080 or 1080 on his "old" P170EM. I did the same modification on my M17x R4 and it does support clevo card (1070) but it doesn't fit in the chassis (and hit a coil and a cap)
-
It’s so good to see old Alienwares still have lots of love from its owners. Excited to see any future upgrades on these old bad boys.
-
Anyone seen or know where I can get this card? Aetina RTX 2080
-
Nice viable upgrade for the old P870DM users (from 980DT).
-
It fits AW 18 and M18xR2 as well.
Same layout as 1080 Aetina model. Aetina model fits in AW 18.
Too bad I can't find it for sale anywhere. -
Do your magic brother, I think you'll be able to get your hands on one
Also, hopefully the die/substrate being shifted to the right a bit doesn't potentially screw with things as I know the TU104 die is quite largessj92 likes this. -
I ordered Aetina GTX 1080 and should soon have a AW 18 ship to me as well. Already ordered my SK Hynix 1TB NVMe SSD for the raptor card.
I'll get some FS and TS results of the card. Hopefully I have everything in 2 weeks. GPU probably 3 days. Laptop coming from Europe.
I'll stay on lookout for that Aetina RTX 2080. Had a chance to buy another RTX 3000 but decided to try out GTX 1080. -
TheQuentincc Notebook Evangelist
why not buying an RTX 5000 ? it's similar to a 2080 Super with 16GB of GDDR6, it "only" have 6 of those mosfet for core power :
https://www.monolithicpower.com/en/...asheet/lang/en/sku/MP86945A/document_id/5152/
if the cooling is great enough (between 2~3W per mosfet), it can handle between 150~200W easily, the most restrictive part would be the lack of external power connector. -
All RTX 5000 have core offset which would require some decent heatsink mods or even a custom heatsink.
unless I missed a design, the 3 RTX 5000 I seen are no go. Even HP RTX 5000 requires mods and doesn't perform well from what I've seen.
Best bet will be either find that RTX 2080 Aetina card and just wait til Q1 2022 when the A4000 MXM is released. For now I got RTX 3000 in M18xR2 from ADLINK and have Aetina GTX 1080 coming for AW 18. Raptor's external power support can also come in handy to beat any power limits on one slot if AW 18 has any.JRE84 likes this. -

I thought you already had the RTX 3000 HP which is basically the same card as their 5000's in term of form factor
Also, I don't quite remember, are you able to overclock your 3000's ? How about a custom curve on Afterburner ?JRE84 likes this. -
I have the ADLINK RTX 3000 which is same as Aetina RTX 3000 and PNY RTX 3000. They have a standard mxm 3.0b layout pretty much.
Card doesn't support curve or overclock at all. It's kinda why I didn't buy another RTX 3000 for my upcoming AW 18 and went with Aetina GTX 1080 instead. Should be more fun to play with. -
For those who waited patiently here is my thread for RTX 3000 in M18xR2:

Next challenge, GTX 1080 in AW 18 coming in a few weeks -
Hello guys, i need some help..
I have a clevo p150em with Windows 7 64bits
i bought a Nvidia quadro m4000m gpu.
GPU came with clevo/kapok vbios
Im using BIOS 1.02.17 (stock from eurocom)
I made the mod inf, install the eurocom quadro driver with this mod inf, using the disabled signature option. It installed but the card doesn't work. appears installed in device manager. but I go to the nvidia panel, configure it for some application or game to run on it and nothing happens, everything keeps running on the intel gpu...
Any help? -
Which .inf did you modify? I get that when I mod the clevo specific .inf. Modding the desktop nv_dispi.inf results in a working card.
-
Hello khenglish, i modify only the file nvcvi.inf
Thx for the replay -
Hello Khenglish,
i modded nvcvi.inf , nv_dispi.inf and nv_desktop_ref4i.inf. with that string, changed the section.
%NVIDIA_DEV.13F9.5281.1558% = Section002, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13F9&SUBSYS_52811558
maybe i done wrong?
reinstall, but same result... card appear at device manager as installed but dont work...
any other suggestion?
I read some people talking about installing directly from device manager with disk option, but i dont try yet..Last edited: Nov 1, 2021 -
You only need to edit nv_dispwi.inf
And inside the inf just change all 13F1 to 13F9.
See attached inf files.Attached Files:

If the nvcvi file is modified then that overrides the nv_dispwi.inf file. You need to have just 1 file modified when you install the driver.

thx @Khenglish and ssj92, u guys saved me! it worked. i done only nv_dispwi.inf mod and now the card is working. ty so much

Hint AW 18 with Aetina 1080 @yarema
Need aux power it seems, hitting gpu pwr limit. Don't know which pin to wire the 19v aux power tokothletino likes this. -
Two lower ones is the positive pins, you need to connect them to the 19v+ and the two highest ones is the ground, you can just leave them as is

Definitely the card is choking, the result is the same as stock mobile gtx 1060 mxm ( without overclocking).
I really like every new post in this thread, there are a lot of interesting projects here. Good luck with your project and of course I look forward to hearing from you!ssj92 likes this. -
Thank you so much! I will try this later today, I believe it will fix the problem.
Didn't know you also had 1080 in yours as well.
-
Yep and I'll tell you more - I've almost complete the project with the gorgeous 4K IPS LCD NV184QUM-N21 + GTX 1080 Aetina + NVME SSD (Velociraptor adapter). The goal is it will be native eDP support so NO Optimus! Also SLI could be done in the future, RTX 30+ series and so on

You should to make some guide thread about It , updating us with your progress, am pretty interessed about 4k lcd mod
-
It will be the patented solution. I'll create a thread here for examples but it will be not a free solution. I'm planning to sell it on eBay. It will be a whole complete set to upgrade the AW18. The price will be published latter.

Will you be addressing the weak vrm's at all or is that not in the scope of what you are intending?
-
I plan to do this later too.
-
Definitely interested then, as I have a 4980hq without a final destination.
Though if its eDP only it may not work still, tried it in my Ranger some time back. -
Link to my thread on a possible hardware mod for MXM EC issues in CLEVOs

Hi all, I had the unfortunate event of my AW 18 motherboard frying and wanted to ask if there is anyone here that has a spare working motherboard?
Or if anyone is in California who can repair a board? I wanna continue working on getting these upgrades but I already spent so much on 1080 + AW 18 together. eBay motherboards are $$$$$
The board was damaged by primary 1080 4 pin power sending power to mxm nvme adapter. I didn't use the velociraptor card but another one. It seemed to be labeled for (+) power but I didn't measure it before connecting. Upon connecting the power cable alone I heard a spark and disconnected the power cable. I did smell electric burning smell so I know damage was done to motherboard.
Now I get 7 beeps only. No fans spinning, no alienfx lighting, just 7 beeps. -

You should give a try at this shop located near L.A :

I have just stumbled on their youtube channel and wow, they do some amazing work and recovery there -
-
Mmmm. TDP 235W isnt made for laptops =)
-
I wanted to try one of those, but the card would hit the CPU heatsink and memory slots on the left side.
-
I think only P870 GT73 GT75 these machines space is enough
-
Yeah I've found the A4500 "for sale" on a few websites that ask for a full business registration before they will give you pricing information, so I don't imagine they are actually available. Probably just trying to gauge interest, but I don't know.
-
Those kind of gpu can fit perfectly to a Clevo P870DM with pad adjusted 980DT heatsink, but probably will power throttle as hell due to power limitation because of the lack of external power plug on the gpu side.
-
Which websites? Can you send me a link, besides adlink.
The hopeful of keeping MXM 3.0b alive thread!
