Interesting game. Plays smooth. FPS is locked at 60 despite disabling vsync. Whatever, it plays smoothly. Just feel like I'd get bored of this type of gameplay though pretty quickly.
-
it does kinda get boring. hopefully there more to it on launch. smart pistol is incredibly op even against other players. grunts on the other hand are way too easy.
-
This game just begs for a Mass Effect type single player experience. I'm still waiting for an epic mech type RPG/open world action game. It's too bad that it's multiplayer only. Seems the single player campaign is fading away. Very few games have a solid single player experience.
-
will give it a good going over when i get home tonight but i think theve overdone it on the price as its only a multiplayer.
ive always bought games for the campaign and the multi is an added bonus until now.
origin exclusive and charging almost £50 is taking the biscuit me thinks.
just done a search on google but cant open link as at work and on amazon the box set for pc is £34.99
so buy a boxed dvd with free postage and its almost £15 cheaper than a digital download with no middle man. are we getting ripped off, me thinks so. -
Yeah. I'll probably buy when it goes below $25US. Just not worth the $60 for what I've seen in the beta so far. I can't imagine there being a whole lot more variation. It seems like mechs are all the same, but maybe that's just the beta. It would be nice to be able to upgrade weapons, add weapon bays, add jump jets, etc. Otherwise they're just a tank in a different form and it's the only vehicle available to the players.
It would also be nice to see a larger variation of map types like capture the flag, king of the mountain, conquest type gameplay, but with some interesting twists. Something original would help.MrDJ likes this. -
That is just the beta, although I think there will only be 3 different mechs in the release version. There will be a lot more weapons and equipment though.
-
I can't use the smart pistol effectively... The waiting game is too much, I end up pressing the trigger and spraying lead all around... Anyway I wouldn't feel at ease with a weapon smarter than me
-
Had to force v-sync off with Nvidia because of awful stutter.
Runs like a dream now with only minor slowdown when there's a lot of alpha heavy smoke effects. Running it maxed at 1080 with 4x MSAA. Apparently dropping shadows to medium helps performance a lot but I haven't felt the need.
Need to install FRAPS as the game is 64 bit so MSI doesn't show up. I feel like it's at 60 though. -
use rtss 6.0.0
-
According to previous statements from Respawn it does have a single player, but it's immersed with the same MP style gameplay vs AI. All the footage from the games I've seen were supposedly from the SP mission.
-
Definitely DX 11.2. XBone is DX 11.2, therefore all games developed for XBone will be DX 11.2 native. DX 11.2 is only W8.1 but luckily for you, I don't think Titanfall will have any DX 11.2 exclusive features since Respawn focused on texture art, gameplay and smooth 60 FPS.
People forget Respawn is not a large dev team, it's a small dev team, that happens to have the backing EA/Microsoft. They no doubt could have ballooned into a HUGE team, but they didn't, chose to stay small.
Also remember Respawn is not an EA company. EA is just their publisher and Respawn retains all IP ownership of Titanfall. They didn't make the same mistake they did with Activision.
It's Source but it's not. Source can't run Titanfall. It doesn't use Source SDK and you can't mod Titanfall with Source. Source was just a basis and modified so they could get the 60 FPS smooth with whatever else that was going on screen and AI etc. It's not a fail. It's just an Engine. Steam is a distribution not an Engine. Your statement is fail. Steamworks is a DRM not an Engine. Source has nothing to do with Steam/Steamworks, it's an Engine. Maybe look up what an Engine is. Only reason for a game to be on Steam by default would be if it was a Steamworks game.
This wasn't about console peasant, the XBOne and PS4 can clearly run with more. It was a game design decision. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I'm not defending the game, it's just what it is, it's been repeatedly said over and over and over and over.
Have you tried using a 360 controller? That isn't an excuse, I'm just curious. Also I hope you wrote feedback since this is called BETA for a reason. Please please spam them, tell them to fix the stutter. I don't have beta, so you'll have to do it for us please
-
I just saw all I needed was to open a ticket for Beta. I did. I got access and it was added to a friend's account just me asking. Origin support is infinitely better than Steam, just because of Live Chat.
Origin is downloading at 20 mb/s. I love Origin. -
Those are both things I should do. I will admit that I was having far too much fun to actually attempt to properly test.
I'm going to try it tonight with the 360 controller and submit a bug report. -
Source is owned and developed by Valve who also owns Steam, so there is correlation. If it were EA they wouldn't let another soul touch their engine.
Beamed from my G2 Tricorder -
Source and Frostbite are both proprietary, the difference being Frostbite isn't licensable while Source is with easily downloadable SDK and mod tools. I don't recall Valve ever stipulating that games developed using its engine have to be on Steam or Steam-exclusive so long as it get its cut from the engine licensing fees. There were a number of commercial Source titles that were not on Steam initially. But I'm guessing most profit-minded third-party studios prefer to release on Steam.
-
Valve probably just makes it very easy to release on Steam if licensing Source.
But what Respawn did is odd since they didn't license the latest Source engine, this is the engine I believe used on HL2, not Portal 2 and L4D2. Strange.
So what if Valve owns both. It's two different products. A digital distribution has nothing to do with an Engine.
The only way it would be relevant is if Valve puts Steamworks into a license requirement for Source. Which would be weird since that pretty much just demands whoever uses Source has to sign a publishing deal with Valve. -
actually quite liking this so far.
still dont think its using my 680gtx as fans are not ramping up during gameplay.
ive added the game exe in nvidia control panel so what else could i try.
if it is using the intel 4000 then its doing a good job so far. -
Hopefully that just means your 680 is complete overkill for the game.
My GPU fan is engaged and working. I don't think your HD4000 can run this game on 1080p. -
will have another go and see. strange that the training had quite a lot of artifacts on screen but the main game hasnt and looks and runs perfect.
-
I set the game to high performance single display mode in Nvidia Control panel. Works well. Smooth. The running, jumping is best I've seen in any FPS so far, including UT3. It's seamless.
I was expecting a bit more texture detail or something. But considering how smooth and hectic the gameplay was, I don't fault it.
If I was into FPS arena style fast game play then I'd give Titanfall as it is 9/10. But who knows after playing 50 hours I'll see problems, but I've had enough of FPS grind fests for levels. Titanfall I'm sure will be AWESOME for COD fans.
If TitanFall has co-op missions and gameplay like ME3 did, it's a must buy for me. Otherwise, I'm done with these PVP only grindfests.
Titanfall was non-stop exhilerating for those few minutes and 6 v 6 was more than enough. It was more like 12 v 12 as I noticed many do what I do, set the Titan on guard mode on control points. -
i just played through the first 14 levels, the game is smooth as Zymphad said, and as far as everyone's concerned, i accidentally used the hd4000 to run the game and got 8 fps in game with preset 1080p (no phyx indicator, white light on msi 16f3 means hd4000 definitely), then jumping on to the gtx675mx its 60fps smooth throughout on 1080p preset, for my own safety i overclocked my gpu by 1/3, from 666mhz to 888mhz, no artifacts so far
this game though, i finally got the real COD4 feel, and the game machanics, map design, balancing etc feels better than BO2, so happy about this game after the massive let down on COD ghosts
anyone in the UK/EU, is there an origin titan fall group to teamplay when its released? -
Well, after playing loads of hours on the beta I can safely say that I am quite satisfied with what I have played so far. The gameplay is smooth and bug-free (except in crossfire but I'll get to that), and it's extremely fast-paced with high adrenaline moments, especially epic fights versus other titans. This is really the COD that we should have got instead of the horrid Ghosts... it is something fresh and is so fun to play, like the original COD Modern Warfare. What I am worried about is the game becoming too bland and boring after a while, I would love to see some sort of epic single player campaign, or at least tons more maps/features in the multiplayer. I know it's just a "beta" (more like a demo), but I really hope that we have only seen at most 15-20% of all the game's features, because if there is no single player campaign then we need to have more in the multiplayer.
As for performance, on both my desktop and laptop the game is unplayable in Crossfire.... there are so many glitches on the screen that the game is unplayable, a video of this can be found here:
However, disable Crossfire and the game runs smooth as butter. On my desktop (specs in the sig), Titanfall runs at everything max settings 1080p at a constant 60fps... and the game seems to be locked at that frame rate, but for me personally I don't need more than that.
On my Alienware M17X laptop, with a single 5870M @ 800/1100, QX9300 @ stock 2.53GHz, and 8GB DDR3 1333MHz Ram, I run at average 45fps, and with drops and rises anywhere from 30-60fps depending on the areas/circumstances. I run the game at 1920x1200, and the rest of the settings can be found here:
Here are screens with FPS in various areas:
All in all, I think the game is pretty neat. What bugs me the most is the Crossfire issue, because my laptop would highly benefit from being able to use this option... and I really hope they fix this upon or closely following the release. I actually will be buying the game, not on release, but once I see enough multiplayer content to keep me satisfied, then definitely yes.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
well ive only managed to play upto level 4 at the moment and i can honestly say im loving it and that is almost the first time ive said that on any alpha or beta.
slight similaritys to certain abilitys in crysis franchise but that just makes this game even better.
now all im hoping for is they are clever enough to stop the hackers ruining this game as well.
i might hire a server once weve heard details of if they are dedicated or not. -
Titanfall is Call of Duty with the following added features:
Jumping...
Climbing...
Calling down Mech Suits...
OP Cloak Ability...
Terrible AI Bots...
That is all. -
Thanks for your input. It doesn't appear that you've actually played the game, or you would understand that the third thing on that list is pretty much the most awesome thing ever and the fourth thing is not true in the slightest.
-
when does titanfall beta finish in the UK?
-
Have you even played Titanfall? The game has the same control scheme and fast-fluid gameplay.... but the similarities end there.
It ends February 19 at 6pm PST.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
Auto-aim pistols that are OP? lmao no thanks. This game is not a next-gen game, made for consoles with crappy analog sticks that need aimbot to work. I called the graphics to be no better than COD standards, its Infinity Ward after all. What makes the game look good and refreshing on PC is rare bugs and fast fluid arcade shooter gameplay.
-
What the hell are you talking about? You literally have no clue. Try playing the beta before you pass judgement.
The smart pistol isn't even good, broseph. Almost nobody actually uses it because you almost need to be on top of someone to lock on and it's faster to just spray them with a carbine/smg/autopistol. Even the regular semiauto pistol is better than the smart pistol, IMO.
It's incredibly annoying when someone reads a few sentences about something and says "pfffffft hah, that's for idiots, I'm too awesome for that." Don't be a child. The beta is literally free to try. At least give it a shot before you make yourself look like a fool. -
i think theve extended it since its gone open beta. im sure i read on the official forum it was friday.
will find out as if it loads for me now then its extended. -
It's not 6pm pst yet.
-
isnt it DOH! gmt not pst here pmsl
thats it ive had enough. im ordering it. bye bye ghosts. -
i said bye to ghosts a week after launch, whereas the previous franchise, MW3 and BO2, i did managed to keep the addiction for a year (so i did managed to play them both until the next launch), that is how COD ghosts is, compared to titan fall though, the beta is already highly addictive......
-
Obviously you have not played the game. In the tutorial when they revealed the "smart pistol" I actually burst out laughing when I seen it, thinking this was some console gimmick. But on the real battlefield, using this pistol is utter garbage, the only good thing about it i just killing off the AI, but against the actual players, you stand no chance when they have a real gun.
-
it is OP when you get the chance to shoot human player from behind, but which gun isn't?
-
Yeah exactly, all the guns are pretty easy to get a kill with when you're like 5 feet away and the person's back is to you.
-
weird how most my 5 feet kill/deaths are from the keystroke C, by default, guess UK players love kicking/neck snappingAkimitsui likes this.

Apparently, Titanfall may be adding NPC monsters into the mix... so while you engage in the war you also will have to watch out for the monsters (aliens) that are native to the planet as well. This looks really interesting!
Here is the Titanfall official artbook where these monsters were revealed:
You can read the full story here: Titanfall may feature NPC monsters, according to official art book | PC Gamer
Still no word on any vehicles yet though. -

So it looks like if you had a closed beta key, you can still play. At least that's what I'm assuming because I can still log in and play.
-
Only played a couple times and got up to level 6. Kept getting my butt handed to me until I got a match with more team balance of equivalent player levels. Still fun, but I hope they don't fix the dumb AI - I need to unlock gun attachments xD
-
as i said earlier there was talk of keeping it open until friday now since they opened the closed beta as they wanted to push the servers to the limit with as many players as they could.
so should still be open for the uk when i get home tonight as gmt is -8 hours behind. -
its ended in the Uk, tried this morning at 8am and its gone, no servers found..
-
oh bugger
thanks for the info Ian -
im pretty sure that everyone that has posted here has at least played one round of the game. with that said, everyone is just voicing their own opinion. to me, it reminds me a lot of MW2. titanfall is a fast-paced, run and gun game. in titanfall my 'go-to' class has a smg as primary, autopistol as secondary and arc grenade. strikingly similar to my set up on MW2 with UMP as primary, G18 for secondary, and stun grenade. the point im trying to make is, the game plays very similar to COD games due to smaller maps and tight corners. i found that if you have a titan and you 'camp' an area with not a lot of elevation changes, you can get many pilot kills. with 2 or more titans doing the same thing, enemy titans wouldnt even dare go to your general area. pilots are more attracted to the titans though.
its a refreshing change of pace since all ive been playing lately is bf4 and borderlands 2.
-
No, it's actually abundantly clear that a good number of the individuals posting haven't played it at all. And if you haven't played it, it's very silly to spout an absolute opinion.
-
is this an mp only game or does it have an sp?
-
it looks like its online multiplayer only.
i was thinking the same as i normaly buy games for their campaign but after playing the beta for 2 hours im finally been converted and its the first multiplayer that ive thoroughly enjoyed and hit the buy button straight away.
this is already being classed as the cod killer. it wont kill it but it sure will make a massive dent.
not one glitch in the beta compared to a 3 month old cod that badly coded with endless lag. -
There is the Crossfire glitch, but you only really need one good card to run the game so that can be overlooked.
