14'' asus f8sv has 128bit one but with ddr2 memory![]()
-
Well actually I'm undecided between XPS1330 or XPS1530, which is why I'm asking. My question is general and concerning both models.
-
14' ain`t 13' you know
Complete the FAQ .
If you won't game that much, the 1330 is better.
IF you want to game even todays titles, the 1530 is your choice. -
howdy
i have a HP DV9600 thing, with a C2Duo T5600 @1.83Ghz and GeForce7600, and while for gamein' its not bad, i am looking at a Toshiba with a C2Duo T7800 @2.6Ghz and an ATi2600 Gfx setup.
I have been looking online for banchmarks and comparisons etc, but have come up with very conflicting information ... so i thought i would ask here!!
can anyone tell me the performance difference between
The Go7600 and the ATi2600 and ..
in general of the two laptops, taking both CPU and Gfx into account?
thanks muchly -
The Toshiba will be much more powerful in games that require fast CPUs, like RTS games, and somewhat more powerful in games requiring fast graphics cards.
-
what ever you read is very wrong.
everyone here will tell you that the toshiba sports a faster cpu AND gfx card. -
The ATI card is faster, but it's only one generation ahead. I don't really think it would be worth the upgrade.
-
yeh right now you should be shooting for laptops with hd3850 or 8800gts at least if your going to game. Otherwise wait for the AMD puma lines to come out with laptops with external GFX.
-
It's the ATI equivilant of the 8600m GT. It would show a noticable improvement in newer more shader intensive games.
-
TheGreatGrapeApe Notebook Evangelist
Exactly, expect the HD2600 to be a more noticeable boost in games like Oblivion, Crysis and CoH which are more shader intensive.
Also you get nice access ot additional features like FP16HDR+MSAA.
The value of that benefit depends on the personal preferences of the user IMO. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
yeah you won't be able to run HDR + MSAA in new games just because of the performance penalty. but in older games its definitely a possibility.
-
How much are you willing to spend? there are always alternatives...
-
TheGreatGrapeApe Notebook Evangelist
It's fine using HDR+MSAA in Oblivion and with only a mild performance drop, my laptop does better than the X1600XT I played it on a year ago, but it's somewhat of a moot point as there is no option with the GF7600GT, which actually the only time it has trouble against the X1600 series is these shader intensive games. -
about AU$2,000
-
With that amount of money, I would go with this: http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-m70a1.htm
Just configure it with better CPU and you are good to go. -
Well then fill the FAQ and mention you're Australian...

LG P300 has 8600 GT and is 13.3", although external DVD.

It seems at the moment, the best GPU one can get in a 13" laptop is the 8400m GS.
I saw flashes of a laptop with an 8600m but all links lead me to dead ends.
Does anybody know if there are more powerful 13 inch laptops, and further, whether new gen hardware from either Ati or Nvidia will allow for fairly powerful 13"?
As it stands, I see the 8400m GS as slightly less powerful than a desktop 6600GT which is pretty horrid.
The 8600m GT seems to be quite a good card, comparable to the 6800GT but still... it leaves a lot to be desired in a notebook. -
LG p300, 13.3'' with a 8600m gs.
benq has a 13.3'' model with a 8600m gt but a low voltage cpu. -
Benq's model is called joybook x31
-
asus has a 13" w/ a 8600 i believe
-
There probably is gonna be 13" laptops with 3650m's but ive yet to see any so far.
-
LG P300 has a 128 bit 8600m GS. Asus F9 is a 12" with a 128bit 8400m G. The 14" models with 8600m GT use a 128 bit bus.
The P300 uses a 8600m GS -
Which card is faster for gaming (TF2 specifically)? I have heard people say that given two 8600's, one with gdd3 and the other 2, the 3 will be faster, but others say the only thing that matters is clock speed. Would this mean the 2600 is faster?
-
ddr3 is significantly faster than ddr2, you can measure this by a 5-10 fps gap, which is pretty huge.
-
most people say 10% tops
-
get the GDDR3 ftw
-
1 - U CAN'T ( EVER ) COMPARE 8600M GS WITH 9500M GS
9500M GS DDR2 = 475/950 = 8600M GT DDR3
I DUNOO REALLY WHY DID nVIDIA CHANGED THE CARD NAME , LOL ... i mean it's the same clock speeds ...?? !
-
Agreed
-
WOW , CHECK THIS OUT , it says that 9m faster 40 % than 8m ... i can't belive it !!! http://laptopcom.blogspot.com/2008/06/nvidia-geforce-9m-series-40-percent.html
-
GDDR3 will be the new standard once prices come down a bit more. It's much more effiecient and offers better performance.
-
Heh, the 9500M GS DDR2 is still better than the Radeon 2600 with GDDR3, actually.
-
Hey im gettin a dell xps m1530 wid nvidia 8600m gt 256mb gddr3 is it better than
the gddr2 version which has 512mb of vram. -
Get the GDDR3 256mb version
-
ya i hav already ordered gddr3 but isn't 512mb better(althoug gddr2). Just enquiring.
-
The faster gddr3 is much more important at the moment.
-
Yippeeeee then thx Robo hunter seems that i chose the better card
-
yes, good call
-
A wise choice my friend!
-
GDDR3 is faster RAM. When it comes to GPUs, speed is more important than capacity. This is covered in more detail here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568
Hope that helps -
nope, cos 8600gt cant even fully use that 512mb.
-
ok thx buddy that helps but i'm surprised 2 know that gddr3 consumes less power and is cooler and yet it's faster. Modern tech i tell u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
gddr2 has been phased out now.
gddr3/gddr4/gddr5 are for high end/mainstream cards
ddr2 for budget cards. -
hello peeps
i was hoping i could ask you again for suggestions on which video card i should go with, the INTEL x3100 or the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 256MB?
i will MAINLY use the laptop for GRAPHIC DESIGN/WEB DEVELOPMENT stuff, I will be using programs like; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesing, Dreamweaver and Flash.[/COLOR]
the VIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 256mb is ONLY $84 extra dollars more... is it worth it?
will the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 256MB be able to handle some older games like; Far Cry, Fear, Hitman, Halo 2, Half Life, etc.?
i am sure this has been asked here many times... but please bare with me... i don't have a computer right now and it is being really difficult for me to do all the research i need in the 20 mins of computer usage that i am allowed here at the my small local library in my town.
i thank you very much for your input. -
yea, you will be better of with the 8400M, but have you asked for suggestions on what laptop to buy, There are some great deals available.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16
also have a look at this page on video cards - gpu`s
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Grafic-Cards.130.0.html -
thank you ROBO for the repply. yes i did ask on that forum... but i thought i would concentrate and ask about the video card separate...
so you think that the extra $84 dollars is WORTH for the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 256mb?
will older games work ok with this video card? -
If you are going to play games, then go for the 8400M GS 256mb it should be fine for older games, but it`s a low powered dedicated card, but it`s a lot more powerful than the x3100.
I would go for the 8400M GS 256mb! if they are your only options. -
The GeForce will also be much better for video playback, if you like to watch DVDs or anything at all.
-
Very good guide! Thanks for it!
I have a question: Which one is the better: 8600GT with DDR3 or the 9500-GS?
And isthe any significant difference beetween them?
For example what would the FPS difference wit the same settings? -
9500m gs = 8600m gt with less heat, same performance.
