8600m DDR3? so the 8600m dd2 is worse than 9500 GS right?
Thanks!
-
The 8600M GT and 9500M GS are the same cards. Maybe a voltage differance or little things like that. 9500M GS DDR2= 8600M GT DDR2
Less heat is not even proven, and I doubt it. It's the same chip at same clocks. It might heat less because of the notebooks cooling system, but not the card itself imo. -
I see thanks.
So the 9500M-GS is worse than the 8600M-GT-DDR3?
Significally?
-
hey guys 8600 M GS offered by HP in their dv9700t is it ddr2 orddr3 ... ANYBODY knows that !! i wanted to know but i cant find that out anywhere!

ddr2 its a med low end card -
Does anyone know how someone would be able to tell if a laptop had a DDR2 or GDDR3 GPU installed if it's not shown on the specs on the ordering website?

Hey all, I'm not all that familiar with graphics cards but here's my situation.
I have a Dell Latitude D620 with a 256MB NVidia Quadro 110M graphics card with Turbocache. I am trying to run a demo which requires a 128 MB video card. My video card has a dedicated 64 MB but is billed as having 256 MB available. When I try to run the game an error message comes up saying that 128MB is required and the demo will not play.
Therefore my question is if there is any way possible to run this demo using my graphics card? Apparently you cannot install a new graphics card on the D620 so I was wondering what my options are or if I am out of luck.
I found this on the Dell website, not sure what it means in relation to my problem - "The total of local and shared system memory used by this graphics card is up to 256MB. Local on-board memory is 64MB on Latitude D620 systems and 128MB on Latitude D820 systems. On the D620 up to192 MB of system memory may be allocated to support graphics. On the D820 up to 128 MB of systems memory may be allocated to support graphics. The amount of system memory allocated is dependent on system memory size and other factors."
Thanks in advance! -
so i know that the mobile 8800mgtx for laptops is not as strong as the desktop equivalent, but how does the 8800m gtx stand up against the 8800gts desktop card? or even the 8800gt desktop card?
(got curious looking through this thread,
http://forums.gametrailers.com/showthread.php?t=421003&page=17
guy with 8800gts desktop card can produce some nice lookin crysis shots, wouldnt mind that kinda performance with 8800m =) -
sorry... should have done a quick search.
close please =) -
the 8800GTX mobile is something really really close the the 8800GTS 640 mb desktop card.
-
Yeah, about the 9600GT.
-
VRam means nothing. If it only has 64m of dedicated, and the game requires 128m, you're screwed. Shared RAM is worthless in most/all cases.
-
I cannot find information regarding its performance on the table here:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
Can anyone explain to me how this compares with other cards on the table?
Thank you. -
Performance wise I believe that it is the same as an 8400gs
-
Yes, the performance wise the 2 cards are about the same, the main difference between the 8400m gs and the 9300m g is that the 9300 uses less power leading to better battery life.
-
hey guys
still confused over graphics cards.
i loooked at a toshiba . it has a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 with 512MB DDR2 discrete memory(the SATALLITE)
and TECRA has a nVIDIA® Quadro® NVS 130M with 256MB DDR SDRAM
can some1 guide to on how they compare with nVIDIA's 8600 GT ?? -
The NVS 130m is based on the 8400M G core, which really, is not good at all. The HD3650 is abit faster than the 8600GT GDDR3.
-
^^ What Johnny T said. The 8600m GT is about 3 times faster than the 130m. The 3650 can be compared to the 8700m GT but i'd guess is a little slower.
-
thanks yo! ok, besides the graphics, what is ur idea abt toshiba? as compared with Dell XPS 1530 ?
the 1530 has a nVidia 8600 GT , but i like the looks of toshiba. the keybord as well. what are ur thoughts ? -
Is the 256MB ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3450 Graphics that is available in this latest hp notebooik good for extreme gaming?
1. Is it comparable to nvidia 8600 GT? The way i understand it - it's more in line with nvidia 8400GS!!!
2. Is AMD Athlon(TM) X2 Dual-Core Processor for Notebook PCs QL-60 or AMD Turion(TM) X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-70 (2.0GHz) a match to Core 2 Duo 5500 series? -
brianstretch Notebook Virtuoso
Thanks to Hybrid Crossfire, the dv5z can make use of both the integrated GPU (which is close to a 8400GS in performance by itself) and the 3450 so performance should be decent but not enough for extreme gaming. You really want at least the 3650. I'd look to ASUS, etc for such AMD Puma platform notebooks.
-
What do you mean by Intergrated GPU?
U mean ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics???
Are you saying that ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics is almost equivalent to nvidia 8400 GS
?
-
^Yes I want to know as well because Im looking to get a tx2500z and it was a ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics card in it. Will it at least be able to play Source games like TF2, CS, Half-Life 2???
-
brianstretch Notebook Virtuoso
Yes, at least that's what the people with tx2500 tablets are finding. It's that good. The 3450 is better of course, and when you combine the two in Crossfire mode you get halfway decent gaming with not too bad power consumption. But you asked about extreme gaming, for which I'd really want one of the higher end Radeons. For halfway decent gaming at a really nice price, get the dv5z. Maybe we'll get lucky and HP will put a 3650 in the dv7z when it comes out (17" notebook) but I wouldn't bet on it. HP appears to be saving the high-end GPUs for their Voodoo subsidiary.
AznImports602: play them, absolutely. Play them at the resolution and detail level that you want? Not sure, but Valve tends to be very good about scaling appropriately. -
I don't know whether i am asking a dumb question. but as far as i know If i go for the 3450, i don't get the 3200 radeon!!! correct me if i am wrong - coz in the hp website these two appear as "radio buttons".
anyways - what you say is these two cards (3200 and 3450) together would outperform nvidia 8400 GS , but not close to 8600 GT? -
Since I m a foreigner when it comes to crossfire, can anybody guess the 3dmark06 of HD3200 CF with HD3450 on the Hp Pavilion dv5t?
And why 3dmark, because it's the only thing we can rough judge now. -
Not sure what you mean
The HD3200 is an igp and the HD3450 is dedicated. You can switch between the two, although you probably need to restart the computer to do so. One would be for extending battery life and the other for gaming and other gpu intensive tasks.
I'd guess the HD3450 would score 2500-3000 3Dmarks at 1280x800, The HD3200 500-1000 at the same res. -
They said you are able to crossfire them. Puma platform.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3536188 -
Typo
It's not crossfire
You need two similar cards to utilise crossfire and there's no way you can crossfire an igp with a dedicated card.
Unless it's some weird new technology
Edit:
It is a weird new technology

I wonder if any of the notebooks coming out this summer will be 13" with decent GPUs. Like a 9500m
-
It appears at this point the best GPU I can get in a 14" laptop is the 9500M GS in the ASUS models, but I've heard their battery life isn't amazing, and I've heard they're a bit big (I might as well go for the m15x at that point).
I would love to get one of the 13.3" models with the 8600m like the LG, but those aren't available in the US.
Is there anything on the horizon that might be available this summer that would have a better GPU in it? -
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-3450.9593.0.html
not very reliable data so adono but the rest are here
i didn't know they still sold 8600m GTs
i thought it was the 8600m GS
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8600M-GS.3707.0.html
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8600M-GT.3986.0.html
i would say crossfire the equivalent of an 8600GT if not better for a variety of scenarios -
ATI 3450 gets around 2000 in 3DMark06, a 8600M GT usually gets between 3200-4000 (but I've seen scores exceeding 5000 in overclocked cards). So it's like a half of the performance of the 8600 GT.
-
Through Hybrid Crossfire, this hp might have the power of a 8600M GS. Optimistic...
-
ok, got some info - i don't know whether i am wrong.
I was reading ati FAQ. the way i understand, the cross-fire works with only between certain graphics cards ON a crossfire enabled motherboard. (These motherboards usually support AMD processors)
The ATI Radeon HD 3850 and ATI Radeon HD 3650 actually are crossfire compatible with each other...
BUT unfortunately I didn't see ATI Radeon HD 3450 with any CrossFire compatible card!!!
Ok - one thing is my guess is that if we buy hp dv5z with ATI Radeon HD 3450 card, we won't get the Integrated Graphics too, So there would be NO Crossfire. Otherthing is even if we get both, these two cards are not crossfire compatible!!!
the link to ATI FAQ is,
http://ati.amd.com/technology/crossfire/faq.html
Read the motherboard section, you get the crossfire compatibility chart there. Please correct me if i am wrong
Thanks for your links existe. anyways, with no crossfire i feel ATI Radeon 3450 is more in line with nVidia 8400GS rather than with 8600 GT -
Yeah i agree with drfelip... ATI 3450 only has half the 3d6marks of 8600 GT. But it has twice as 8400GS. Check out the number 36, 66, 68 of the chart below.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
(thanx existe for the source) -
It's hybrid crossfire, which is having a dedicated gpu in crossfire with a intergrated one. And when you have a dedicated gpu, your motherboard usually also comes with an intergrated one. Your computer just doesn't use it. But with hybrid crossfire, it uses both.
-
Basically even if you choose the 3450, you still get the 3200 as it is integrated in the motherboard. So you get 2 effective graphic cards and they will function using hybrid sli, basically when doing nothing, the 3540 is turned off, and you are running of the hd3200 integrated gpu, but when gaming and such the 3450 is reactivated and the power of the 2 gpu(3450+3200) is combined through crossfire.
More info here: http://ati.amd.com/technology/hybridgraphics/index.html -
hm........ ok... i think i finally get it
thanks for all you guys!!!
Hope you guys will put up a review on hp dv5z that has this card! -
S0 confuse in this thread... :[
-
here i will try to explain what is actually going because a lot of people are just throwing stuff around.
in a computer there is the CPU which you can visualize as a center. and then there is something called a southbridge which connects everything else. On a desktop, this southbridge would be connected to things like your hard drive, your graphics cards, etc. [im pulling this from the back of my head.. its been awhile since ive been active on any computer forum
]
so to my understanding, the HD 3200 or the integrated chip is now part of the 780g chipset. which is why you see it as an option for the laptop. It is furthermore NOT possible to remove this chip as you wouldn't have a working motherboard. so selecting 3450 on the dv5z wouldn't make a difference as you would for sure, have the HD 3200
Fortunately for those who follow the website of ati and amd, the information actually isnt' very complete. a simple search on newegg.com for 3450 would show SAPPHIRE 100233L Radeon HD 3450 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail as the first result. as you can see, it IS possible to crossfire the card. In fact, all modern graphics cards can do this kind of stuff. well.. those from amd and nvidia.
So what? well. if you have two graphics cards. you can choose how you want to use them. It is possible to use both in crossfire and it is also possible to turn one off and not the other? now why would you want this? well for one thing, the 780g chipset has been reported to use less power than both the intel and nvidia solution. what this could possibly mean is that you might get much better performance [graphics wise...] and save power at the same time while on the battery. This way if you want the power to play games in your dorm [assuming your a college student like me] you probably wont be worrying about battery life as much and the dedicated graphics card (3450) can slave its life away for you. on the other hand, maybe something comes up and you have to take your laptop out, once you disconnect the power [its a setting
] the 3450 will automatically be turned off. as you might know, dedicated graphics cards aren't very good at saving power. for one, i know even my 8400m gs is probably depriving me of a good hour or two on battery [i get around 4+ hours on a 9 cell] despite the fact that an intel cpu has better "battery" saving sleep states if you have a dedicated graphics card, its still making a heat and consuming energy. with the option to switch to a less heat producing and energy consuming card on the fly, you can probably see why this is such an exciting time for gamers or 3d artists and their laptops. btw, someone hacked the new nvidia driver that boosted their 3dmark vantage performance using CUDA to accelerate physics processing to work on the AMD graphics cards too. i doubt its very legal but it is very amusing
as a side note, crossfire and sli work in a very similar fashion. the best case example of their benefits which is easy to understand is that you have two graphics cards and you're trying to draw something, lets say render a cube at 30 fps. One graphics card will draw 1 frame and the other will draw another. and it keeps alternating. this potentially can be up to twice as fast. [in theory haha] hope that clears up some confusion. (and no that is not the only way that crossfire and sli can work)
back to the thread topic.
it is to my understanding that the lowest cpu you would probably want to get with the 3450 is the ZM-80 cpu since it has twice the amount of cache. whereas cache is beginning to matter less thanks to AMD's memory controller, it is still a formidable performance difference especially when it comes to games. office apps not so much. but this definitely may impact the performance level of some games to a greater extent. At this price range [around 900 as a minimum] i would say that this laptop is a formidable and solid performer for a gaming laptop.
i personally own a vostro 1400 with an 8400m gs and the 1.6 t5470. my friend owns the inspiron 1500 with the 8600m GT?or gs? i forget and the 2.2 ghz option. for some reason [i can't imagine why] when we play FEAR my laptop performs pretty much on par. so don't always let the benchmarks tell you what you should get :\ and yes he did pay $500 more than me for his laptop.
but even suppose the 8600 is still better
its still nice that you can turn off the 3450 on battery. and if the hd3200 is performing as well as people say it is [similar to 8400] then joy to the world. ive been waiting for years for a decent amd laptop
and no, i have nothing against nvidia. i actually have a club SLI shirt too ^^ 7800GT SLI used to be amazing >.>
and for those who can wait and feel amd is actually delivering for once haha, they said they would have the hd 4xxx series out by Q4 2008 unless i read the articles wrong please double check me on that though. Im waiting for 2009 to come along so i can grab one of newer gens
and my apologies to those who actually read the entire post. im starting to rant haha. cheers! -
To Chaz.
I'm sorry, Chaz.
I was translated your thread in to Thai languange at forum overclockzone.com before I got your permission. becaused i don't see your comment about taking this out. so I really apologize to you in this thing.(I can't find the PM method , does it have?). This is the good thread to clear about "how to choossing notebook GPU" into easy way to understand. And you did a good job.
I'm just a user in webboard @ overclockzone.com, not moderator or admin.
I translated into Thai for easy reading in this forum and just hope for anyone who suspecting about mobile GPU will be clear. nothing else. So I hope you don't hate me.
