So I can't make up my mind between the Sager NP2096 or the Asus G50v-A1. They are roughly the same size, same quality, the Sager's a bit more customizable but the Asus has the 9700M GT so it really comes down to the GPUs. Is the 9700M GT that much better than the 9600M GT (DDR2)?
This will be my first real performance notebook so I am not sure about the GPUs. I really don't game on PCs that much but I would like to play a few games here and there and I'd like to play them on medium-high settings. There is about a $150 difference between my NP2096 configuration and the Asus G50v-A1 so is it worth it to go with the 9700M GT? I will most likely be sacrificing the 200 GB 7200 RPM HD that I can get in the Sager for this 9700M GT since the G50V-A1 comes with 5400 RPM HDs. Although, I may pay $200 more for the A2 and get the 7200 RPM HDs and a blu-ray player in the G50. What do you guys think?

Hi all, I recently posted my benchmark results with the 9700m GTS, running on the new Toshiba Qosmio x305-q701. You can find results and stats below, just wanted to put in my 2 cents. Maybe you'll find it useful.

E-Wrecked, reading in your thread, you state the 9700M GTS out-performs the 8800M GTS. I do need to point out two flaws in your benchmarking-
1. Ran at 1280x800, as opposed to 1280x1024
2. You were looking at the "over-all" score, which of course, thanks to the CPU, out performs the FX.
The 9700M GTS scores lower in shader modeling tests. Anyone who has thrown a T8300/9300/X9000 has scored 500+ points than the X305. Giving false information just to boast about your new computer is wrong, unless maybe I read your posts wrong. -
Ok.. not trying to brag, just posting my screen shots for anyone considering the laptop. And did you look at the CPU score? It's of course gonna get smoked by a 8300/9300/x9000. It's a low-voltage 2.0! If the 305 had a x9100 or x9000 it would smoke the 6860fx with a comparable processor.. that was my point. Sorry if you felt mislead.
update: x305 is not capable of 1280x1024, just to re-iterate. -
I understand about the resolution, that's why you run on an external monitor.
And as for the 8800M GTS vs. 9700M GTS, the 8800M GTS has out-performed in benchmarks that I have seen, when not including the CPU. Most with a decent T8300 or so are scoring in the high 8's or low 9's. -
As a heads up..the p7350 is a 2.0 GHz, whats the rating of your CPU you're showing benched at 7201?
-
Hi Chaz,
I noticed in your Sigline that you have the 9600M GT card.
Q1: Have you measured it's Temp in IDLE (you know just the laptop on and running nothing)?
Q2: When Gaming ... how high does it go?
Q3: Does it seem to have any of the G86 Over-Heating problems?
Q4: Do you happen to know your GPU Version Number?
Thanks,
G!

1.6, with only 2mb of L2 cache.
It's fine to be proud of your new notebook, but the 9700M GTS still performs under the 8800M GTS. Now the 9800M GTS/GT/GTX out-performs the 8800M GTS by a margin, to quite a bit. -
May I know where does the latest Intel GMA 4500HD stand in that chart? I know it is an integrated graphic, but I just want an idea of how it would perform (more specifically, against the 9300GS) I'm in a dilemma now in choosing 2 laptops.
Currently a undergraduate in Computer Science course and looking to get my first laptop. I have no plans to use the laptop to do any heavy gaming (got my desktop for that), but I'm worried that an integrated graphic card may not be enough once I start taking courses related to computer graphics.
Anyway, here are the 2 laptops. They are of the same price (campus offer), and their processor are the same.
The first one is 2.5kg, 15'4 LCD with 9300GS. (Fujitsu E8420)
The second is 1.7kg, 14.1 LCD with Intel GMA X4500HD (Fujitsu S6520) -
I was just curious if there is any notebook that support the 9700m GTS
-
where does the Radeon HD3200 stand in the big chart?
-
Just belove HD2400
-
The Toshiba X305 at Best Buy has that card...but you can get the 7811 gateway there for $50 less and it has a 9800m GTS.
-
Does the geforce go 7800GTX out perform the 9600gt ddr2 because my 3 year old dell had a 7800GTX and now my new computer thats on the way has the 9600gt but judging by the big chart they don't seem too much off performance wise (that would suck if it were true).
-
I'm afraid that's true LHogue
Since there was no real performance difference between the 8 and 9 series geforces the 9 series is still old tech.
I also hate to point this out but the go 7800 GTX should outperform the 9600m GT at higher resolutions by a noticable margin since the 7800 has a 256 bit bus and has a higher memory clock than the DDR2 9600...
Maybe return it if you can? -
Hi LHogue,
Here is a benchmark for both of your cards

great job Chaz. This is very helpful to get simple facts and filter out the noise of marketing claims and confusing opinions.
-
The 9600M GT is slightly better (if even that much) in performance... but the 7800 GTX still has a 256-bit memory interface, which means it can handle gaming at higher resolutions better.
My 7800GTX notebook is still gaming well for about 2.5 years now... still outperforms most new mid-range videocards.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
The 9600M-GT is about 15 - 20% faster than the 8600M-GT (both DDR2 @ stock clocks).
I haven't used a Go7800GTX/Go7900 series graphics card in a long time, but I do remember they were beastly performers . . . and still are good cards. -
Chaz, you gonna give a use a review of your new HP notebook?
Definitely looking forward to seeing that "bang for the buck" gaming notebook's benchmarks and impressions.
-
how good is the Nvidia quadro NVS 160M?
-
No info has been released on this card as of yet
But if it's performance is between the nvs 140m and the nvs 320m then it will probably be similar to the 8600m GT\Quadro FX 570m. -
Hi there.
I am looking for a replacement for my hp dv2000, and today I saw an HP dv5t series, which featured a nvidia geforce 9200M GS. I don't know too much about this GPU, but my girlfriend has an hp dv6000 with a 8600 GS, and from what I was reading online the 9200 is weaker than this ? Is this possible ? Anyone has any insight on this GPU ?
Thanks -
Is the GMA X4500Hd really comparable to 9300GS?
-
Hi Zac ...
Short answer is NO ... but I found some interesting readings ... if you have some time on your hand, then it will make for an interesting reading ...
I think the first 2 URLs will definitely answer your Q ...

And which is the best driver for OC? (Best Downclocking free driver) -
Hi guys,
I'm going to be purchasing a new Asus U6v, I was wondering if anyone knows much about the 256mb Geforce 9400 that's in it? (It's not listed in any of Chaz's tables!)
http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=2001
I found this site which talks a bit about the new 9 Series, in one of the charts you can see that it scores only marginally lower gigaflops than a 9500.
With that in mind, does this mean that this card is performance wise smack bang in the middle of the 9300/3470 and 9500/3650? What is the Geforce boost feature?
Also, does anybody know if the 9 series use DDR2 or 3?
Thanks -
hey i was wondering how god these 2 card are. and with is best
HD3470
Geforce 9600M GT. -
GF 9600M GT beat the HD3470. It's 1000% sure

How capable is the Radeon HD 2600 w/ 512mb ddr3 memory? Best Buy has a 15" laptop w/ that card on sale this week for $850 and was wondering about the "bang for your buck" factor

@ Slayer ... is that ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT or what ... and which laptop is it in and what are you comparing it with?

Here's the link. Even on the gateway product page it doesn't specify what type of hd 2600 it is, just that it's 512mb ddr3 -
Hi Slayer,
1st of all that ain't $850 ... more like $1000 ... for $1000+ there are better options for gaming ...
Anyway ... look at the GPU comparison chart below ... your HD2600 probably sits somewhere between regular 2600 and 2600XT ...
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
But if you are buying this laptop ONLY because of the Graphic Video Card (GPU) size of Memory then read this ...

But the fact that is GDDR3 might also help out and increase your Gaming experience.
Wish someone who really has that card could post back here for you.
Hope this was some help ...

No one knows anything about the geforce 9400?

It's like $950 bundled w/ MS Office, but by itself (even though it's not listed on best buys website) it's $850 and in this weeks sunday ad for them. So was curious about it being a good deal for 850 -
It is a good deal for $850. You can read chaz's review of a similar gateway here

Hope this info helped you some ...

It's fairly complicated to try to figure out the performance of a card from the listed specs, it's probably easier to google for the actual performance of a card in games or benchmarks rather than to try to figure it out yourself.
Think of all the people who have bought 1GB 8500 GT's thinking they where going to max out crysis
Looks to be a great deal! It should perform similarly to a 8600m GT GDDR3 or 9600m GT DDR2. Crysis will run on medium settings fluently... nuf said
-
@ Slayer ... per Fabarati's link ... your HD2600, 512MB, GDDR3 card has impressive Benchmarks ...

-
hehe ok thaks
if i had to choose betheen nVidia Go 8600m and Geforce 9600M GT with would hadle crysis best..
even if i never playede crysis before
-
There should be no "Go" 8600m and as long as you don't pick up the 8600m GS you should be fine
The 9600m GT would be the best option with a similar set-up but there's no huge difference between the two.
-
Ok but is there a big differens betheen Geforce 9600M GT and GeForce 8600M GT in performens. sorry i ask alot.. dont know s... about graphics cards.
-
No there's no huge difference between the two, maybe 10-20% in favour of the 9600m GT. You should probably base your laptop choice on other factors.

Go for the one with the 9600m GT, IT appears to be the better machine. Can you post links to the exact models?
-
Hi rafiq ...
I would STAY AWAY from 8600M GT or any NVIDIA card based on G86 ... they are bad news. NVIDIA 8600M GT have been failing after 2 weeks to 9 months in most laptops ... failing as in HEATING UP and dying and sometimes taking your MOBO with it.
Do a search on this forum and see all the Horror stories about this card and NVIDIA 8400 cards.

Which one of these graphics cards are better?
Will they be able to play games like Call of Duty 4, Oblivion, Battlefield 2142, Ghost Recon 2 etc. smoothly?
Any help will be appreciated. Thank You.
-
9600gt is a lot better yes it will play all those games smoothly
-
I saw somewhere that these gpu's are identical so i was wondering if i could just over clock the hd 2600 to the specs of the hd2600xt and have a decent card that would be reliable.
SO basically im wondering if they are indeed the same or it they differ with cooling systems or something. because i dont feel like burning up a new laptop. thanks!!
