Im not sure if this question has been asked. Im planning on investing in a good gaming laptop soon. My question is would getting a laptop with a Nividia geforce 7300(512 MB) be a better choice than a Nividia Geforce 7600(256 MB). my Dilemma is that the 7300 has more memory while the latter is a newer Graphics card.

Check the bottom of the chart for that info. The Go7600 is vastly, vastly superior to the Go7300.
-
Wrong!!!
Laptops have even wider choise of X700 cards, they just dont mark them like the desktop ones. Laptops have X700 with 64/128/256 memory and DDR/DDR2/DDR3 ? memory. That really pisses me off, because it's very hard to pick a laptop, you dont know what you'r getting, if you dont search additional info... -

Yes you are right kozik,
You have a DDR1 and DDR2 version of the X700, DDR3 is very rare. Indeed you have to search to get that info.

Hi, I was wondering if the ATI mrx X700 uses the same technology as the mrx X800. E.g Smartshder hd, Hyper Z HD....
Thanks, Daniel. -
Also, I would like 2 ask if a agp 8x gpu would work on a AGP 4x motherboard.
Cheers guys! -
Hi guys. I've got an Amilo A1667G with X700 128mb. I just updated the vbios with the newer one on the fujitsu-siemens site (which seems the same version, except the revision number which is higher on the one i downloaded) and I updated my drivers with the latest omega ones (based on 6.15). Everything is ok. By the way, I looked in the control panel, under the options you see the details of your ati x700. In this window, it shows me that I have 512mb of memory installed in HyperMemory. Is it possible? I know i have 128mb only.
By using the ATI Tray Tools (which automatically installed with omega) I can see hardware informations. It says: Installed Memory 128MB, Memory Type GDDR3, Memory Width 128 bit, Active pipelines 8. By the way if you scroll down you see Video BIOS Information, where there is an entry called VRam Type: HyperMemory.
Is that possible? For safe I dumped my original bios version prior to updating in case I have to restore it (should I use flashrom from techpowerups?). Thanks for your time -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Not wrong. You are only talking about differences in memory types; I'm talking about differences of the actual card regarding clockspeeds.
There are no X700's with GDDR3, although it does support it.
It does indeed - check ATI's website for info on that.
The latest BIOS probably enabled HyperMemory by default, so that's why you are seeing 512MB. I am using a machine right now with a 128MB Go7400; I just updated the drivers and it shows 512MB as well. Don't worry, it doesn't take 384MB of your system memory for itself, only as it needs it. There are exceptions to that rule, but in this case, that's how it works.
Yes, it would. That's why you see the cards listed as 4X/8X. -
Thanks for your quickly answer ChazMan421. I read for a long time all your topic it's very very interesting. Nice job!!
How I can see what type of memory my x700 does have? In the ATI Tray tools it says GDDR3 although you're saying that there doesn't exists.
And do you think that the now enabled HyperMemory is better than having it disabled... I thought the difference between x700 128 and x700 512 hypermemory was in the hardware.
Thanks for your answer. -

ATI Tray tools is not accurate when it comes to reading the memory type. Try Everest Home Edition if you can find it. Or, you can post your clockspeeds here and we can tell you - different memory types run at different clocks. -
It has the same clocks as the Notebook from Hitman above. It has 351/297 without changing anything. I think that my amilo a1667g is very similar to the Hitman one except that I've got an Athlon64 Mobility 3400+ (2200mhz running)
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
You have DDR memory - it runs at 297MHz stock.
-
Thanks 4 ur quick reply chaz.
So from ur point, I can install a ATI 1600Pro agp 8x on my desktop agp 4x motherboard?
Thanks 4 ur answer. -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Not really the place to ask this .. . try the desktop forum. If it says in the product description that it can use 4X/8X, then you're fine. -
Sorry, there is a desktopreview.com? Lol, I'm one of the lucky 1's who got the dv4000 wit the ATI X700 b4 the offer ended. I got it 1 week b4 the offer expired!
-
BTW Chazman, nice GPU guide, I enjoyed reading it. I'm a noob when it comes 2 overclocking my GPU. Can u guys tell me how without burning my graphics card? Thanks.

Hey ATI fan
I see you have the X700 with 128 MB. If the stock clocks are 351:297 I highly recommend these settings: 372:330. They work GREAT!
If you have the DDR2 version, ask others for a good overclocking speed.
Charlie
EDIT: I am not responsable if anything goes wrong with overclocking. Do it on your own risk! -
No, I have the ddr version. How do u change clock settings?
Thanks, Daniel -
BTW, Do I need software or something from ATI?

I highly recommend to download Omega drivers... they have build in ATI Tray Tools, it rocks! You can clock it with that program.

I am buying a tablet convertible soon for college, it's required for the engineering department. I'd still like to keep playing Day of Defeat: Source mainly and just basically other HL2 games. I've done my research on which tablet to buy and i'm leaning toward the Gateway CX210X. All the specs are great when i finish customizing:
2.0 GHz Core Due Processor
2048MB RAM
80GB 7200rpm Hard drive
Except i'm not sure about the graphics card. There is an option to select either:
1) Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (+$0)
2) ATI Mobility Radeon® X1400 64MB Graphics featuring Avivo display technology (+$100)
I know the Radeon is better, but should i get the standard first option at no extra charge and get a better graphics card such as the Radeon X1600 later on? Also i don't understand why it says 64MB. Most modern games require atleast 128MB or more? I've never seen on with 64MB whats the deal with that?
Oh and if anyone can recommend another tablet pc with the same specs as above that would be helpful.
Thanks a lot!!

If you could direct all your comments/questions regarding Tablet PCs toward our Tablet site, www.tabletpcreviewspot.com, that would be appreciated; we don't to tablets over here.
That X1400 looks like it only has 64MB of dedicated memory it appears. You cannot upgrade the card. -
Thanks a lot Hitman. R the Omega drivers official and can I get them at ATI.com or do Ihave 2 google it?
Thanks, Daniel -
Omegas arent official. You have to get them from omegadrivers.net.
-
I'll download it rite away!

Merci beaucoup for ur prompt reply.

Je suis également désolé pour aller outre de la matière. I got a stupid French exam tomorrow. That's y I am kinda practicing my words.
Anyways, I should get Omega Drivers to improve graphic performance rite? And I can overclock easier with that driver rite?
Merci de votre conseil, Daniel -
Ehi Hitman! I've see you've got an amilo very similar to mine and you use omega drivers. I just installed it 2 days ago...very nice!! I also updated the bios of my x700 with the latest one from the fujitsu-siemens site and in the omega control panel I now see i have 512 hypermemory!! Does it happen to you too?
Perhaps the bios has activated hypermemory feature... my amilo a1667g has ati x700 128mb. BTW it is very similar to your amilo, expect I have an amd64 mobile 3400+ (2200mhz running).

Hey Actifresh!
Great to hear that mate! I have tried to activate Hypermemory, but I always have failed
How did you do it? I check the drivers for A1667G but I can only find drivers for the BIOS. Not for videocard BIOS. I already have the latest BIOS driver for my M1437G, but I have no 512 MB hypermemory.
Which one did you download? You have 3 drivers for X700. One of 30 MB, one of 20 MB and one of 60 MB.
Thanks!
Charlie
-
I've got the Ati Bios from the amilo a1667g section... just select to display everything downloadable: it is just below the Bios updates.
I am not using the drivers from the fujitsu site. I just installed the latest omega ones... can't remeber the version (I'm writing from my desktop now). Later I'll grab you a screen of the drivers showing 512 hypermemory.
I repeat I should have x700 128mb
Do you know if the hypermemory feature is a software one (e.g. the video bios or even the drivers... like the omega ones) or an hardware one ?
Bye
p.s.: BTW is there anything I can do to test if it really is hypermemory activated? -

Where do the nvidia Quadro FX 1500M and 2500M fit in the card comparison chart?
I know they are meant for CAD, so I'd imagine they are mostly geared toward OpenGL. -
You're right, they're mostly geared toward OpenGL and CAD applications. The chart is meant for gaming cards, i e, Geforce/Radeon cards. I'm not sure about the FX 1500, but the FX 2500 is based on G71 chip which is the same used on the 7900 GTX. Both of these cards can game very well though you may run into compatibility issues with some games.
-
Actually, the Quadro FX cards are actually very good cards. I just got my new Precision M90 yesterday with the FX 1500M (see sig), and have played the F.E.A.R. demo and the Prey demo, both at max settings, and it performed quite well. It wasn't always as high of framerates as I would like, but when it's running at 1280 res. with 8x FSAA, I was expecting some slowdowns in some places. I actually just finished running 3dmark05 and 3dmark06 and got a 6413 in 05 and a 3926 in 06, so I'm happy. I'd say it's about the same as a 7900 GS. That was stock out of the box btw; no updated drivers, OC or anything.

They don't; they have a different purpose than gaming cards.

Wow Actifresh, u really got a unique laptop. Mine only displays 128MB as well. It says 128MB DDR memory config. I wish I got GDDR 3, ............................
-
Have you tried using the latest omega drivers ? Perhaps they enable hypermemory feature, or it was enabled on my laptop by updating the vbios... don't know!!
-
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
It doesnt work for me. I installed the latest Omega drivers and updated BIOS, still I have 128 MB X700 videocard.

I guess I'm lucky
When you use your notebook at home with the ac adapter, do you plug off the battery? When I turn off the notebook with 100% battery, I unplug the ac adapter, when the next day I turn on the notebook again (with the ac adapter) it charges the battery for a little time, windows shows 98 99% charging then it arrives at 100% and I get green light on the amilo.
(Sorry for this bad explanation, I'm italian i don't know how exactly tell you)
Thanks
-
I am using Omega drivers and it still displays 128MB DDR1. Anyways, Hypermemory is a new feature introduced after the ATI X1K series. So it is impossible 4 a X series 2 have that feature. I think ur driver is corrupt.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
HyperMemory was introduced with the Xx00 series. I don't know where you found that information.
HyperMemory is enabled on all ATI PCI-express video cards with 128MB or less of memory by default when using the Catalyst 5.7 or later drivers.
Posters, we need to keep this thread on topic. I don't mind conversation but we should really get to posts discussing video cards. -
Oh, I'm sorry. I think I found that on a discussion site or something.
-
Sorry, my fault.
-
Sorry if this has been covered (Chaz does cover it in general terms at the beginning of the thread), but can someone who games on their laptop give me some examples of the kinds of games that can be played using ATI 200M or 1150M integrated graphics?
I was planning on getting a turion x2 laptop with ATI x1150 integrated graphics. The main purpose of the laptop would be business applications, web surfing, etc. but I would occaisionally play games on it too.
I was looking to play games like Civilization IV, Age of Empires III, Rome: Total War...games like that. I'm not really looking to play FPS games like FEAR or HL2 on a notebook. Will integrated graphics run these strategy-type games on medium or better with integrated graphics or am I dreaming? If it can run games like this OK then I'd rather not shell out for an x700 or something.
Thanks in advance for your help! -

Thanks Chaz,
Yes, I read similar information within this thread about the 200M as well. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone can speculate or (even better) has any actual experience with the x1150 and games. Probably not, cause it's just coming out now. But you said the 1150 is basically 33% better than the 200M. I'm not sure exactly how that translates into playability of certain games. For example, if FEAR is not at all playable on a 200M, would it run on low settings with a GPU that is 33% better than that? If a game ran at medium settings with a 200M, could it run at high settings with a 1150? I'm not clear what 33% better/faster would mean in reality. -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
The X1150 should have about the same performance as the X300 if the 33% better performance figure is correct.
