I typically don't buy games I haven't thoroughly researched however I made a mistake and bought Diablo 3. So yeah - Diablo 3 is quite possibly the most disappointing game I've bought in a long time

Dishonored. Never even finished it. Was not Thief-like enough for me. Too easy to just start shooting, and it was poor as a shooter. Game had an identity crises, IMHO
-
I felt that way about Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Yeah, Dishonored was a huge disappointment for me as well. It got hyped like crazy but it felt like a generic bad port with dated graphics and weak gameplay. The setting and ambiance had a lot of potential, but it fell short of my expectations and I stopped playing after the 3rd or 4th level.
-
Man. I can't remember being let down by any games to a large degree. I have pretty eclectic taste in games, and even lower production quality or games with flaws I tend to find redeeming qualities.
I suppose the most recent game I tended to find a hard time getting into and having fun was Risen 2, after liking Risen. I still have a ton of stuff in my backlog I haven't started yet so I might come up with another.
-
I agree. I'm having a hard time getting into Deus Ex. Thought I would love it but just isn't going well for me.
-
Homefront and Diablo 3. Homefront wasnt the worst, but not worth the 50 bucks i payed on release day. diablo 3 sucked. i have alot of horrible games but im not disappointed in games i pay 5 bucks for on a steam sale.
-
I have the same feelings somewhat. I do like the game but there's a couple gameplay niggles I have. I would be lying though if I characterized it as a 'big disappointment'.
-
Modern Warfare 3 was a big downer for me. I went to BF3, and haven't gone back since.
-
Coming from BF: BC2, MW3 wasn't all that bad. Yes, there are some annoying brats, but that's nothing that the mute function couldn't fix.
But I bought MW3 not because it was something I looked forward to, but because my hallmates played it and I wanted to pwn them all (and thus did so).
-
To me, MW3 felt like an expansion pack - that's what was disappointing about it.
I may purchase Diablo 3 if it goes on sale again. I saw it once for $14.99. I loved Diablo 2, but sucked at it. -
Yeah, didn't feel all that different from Black Ops to me, but oh well. I rarely purchase games period, so $60 every 12 months (or longer) or so isn't all that bad overall.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
How was Diablo 3 on a 75% off sale? I wasn't aware Blizzard was ever willing to do anything like that. -
Atmosphere is fantastic. Aesthetic design is fantastic. Pacing is terrible, action is clunky, and there's too many situations that can only be solved with action.
I also have a problem with the fact that a frickin' cyborg doesn't have the physical energy to punch two people at once unless he eats an energy bar beforehand. The fact that you need to use a unit of energy to do ANYTHING besides fire a gun, and only the very last unit of energy regenerates over time (the rest needs to be recharged with food), is absurd. I really can't take down two people, rest ten minutes, and take down two more? Really? Really? -
MW3 - they mortally inured soap, but e survived so they mortally injured him again but the guy pulls through so you think there's no way they are gonna mortally injure the guy agai....oh they just did, and now he's dead...
....wut?
I hate IW for that.
Rage was a good game, and then it just...ended. I was expecting a big finale against the oppressive government but it just went out with a lame boss fight and a whimper.
Ghost Recon future soldier was just crap. -
I greatly enjoy WoW but was disappointed in GW2. I found it boring and repetitive.
-
Well, read through the games listed here and went through my own list, and I'd say RAGE and Duke Nukem Forever are the two that are the worst.... Duke was ruined with the remake, they flat killed it dead.... horrible and boring.
On a different note, I do really like a lot of the games listed here, ie some of my favorites are Rise of Flight, just a flat awesome WWI sim, but in that same sentence if you don't want a WWI sim you will hate it. The newest Deus Ex is awesome IMHO, great game! I guess it just comes down to what you are expecting out of a particular game. -
It was $10, my bad. More the 75% off. Diablo 3 for $10 on ToysRus! - GameSpot.com
The sale has long since been over. I'm just hoping for another one similar to that, haha. -
for $10 it would have been worth it IMO
-
I would buy Diablo I II for $10.
My measure is that I want 1 hour of entertainment for every dollar I spend. I think I could get 10 hours out of that game even though it's not a genre I'm too fond of. -
Luckily I got D3 for free because I did the whole WoW annual pass (I would have kept my sub going anyway, why not get a free game and mount for doing so?).
-
NFS:MW2 & MOH:Warfighter
-
Honestly, I have played it with a friend's Bnet account, and despite all the detractors, its a decent game, but Blizzard screwed up badly on some things like on drop rates of good items, as well as the Auction House.
I've played through it a couple of times without using the AH at all recently after I have read they patched the game a bit and it wasn't that bad. But yeah, forced use of the AH really killed the game. Blizzard really should have made the game function properly by itself without use of the AH.
I can understand however that on release it was a huge disappointment. I might actually go out and purchase it for ~$20 if they got rid of the always online requirement, it would be worth it at that price.
I enjoyed Diablo 2 (wasn't one of those super hardcore fans, but played through a couple of characters)... and if you want something like that I strongly recommend torchlight 2. Graphics aren't as great, but it was a polar opposite to the other games in this thread - a game I didn't have great expectations from but was really incredible. Torchlight 2 was probably one of the most surprising buys of the last few years for me... -
D3 just kind of SCREAMS at me when i think of the words "disappointment" + "game". i regret not selling all my gear and getting my refund from Blizzard like many others did. my Demon Hunter still has all his gear lol.
when i had trouble sleeping, i would just log on D3. a few moments later, i'd wake up and it would be morning time. -
Current prices on the PC game is a joke!
You couldn't give it away to save your life!

Guild Wars 2....I dunno I haven't really been too excited about an MMO since FFXI heh.
-
Garshasp, Dungeons, Shadowgrounds, and Homefront are what I can think of, at the moment.
If it wasn't for the real money auction house I might have been disappointed in Diablo 3. But, so far, I made back $40 of my $60 purchase. And had a reasonably good time playing it. To each his own, I suppose (and seems to be the resulting outcome of this thread).

Skyrim.
Not that it isn't a great game, just that it is not a great game for mages. -
Seconded on MOH Warfighter. Read the reviews, thought it looked fun and bought it anyway. Waste of $30.
-
I forgot about Deus Ex. That was a disappointment for me too. Just couldn't get into it. Didn't help it any that, IMHO the game looked poor.
Hoping that they use a different engine for the next Thief game. -
Human Revolution was, useless.
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
I can't believe there are so many DEHR haters
. I just loved the game.
-
Getawayfrommelucas Notebook Evangelist
Yeah I hear you, I loved the game but that goes to show ya - different folks, different strokes! -
I was hating on DEHR, but then I plugged my controller in and it was a different experience. I've found that some of the games I had in my collection that I didnt like get new life breathed into them while using a controller.
-
I must change my opinion on this game, because since the last update the recoil was changed and I started playing the game for over 20 hours ( 32 hours in total ). The game is now quite good and I completely changed to it from 1.6.
-
I loved almost every second of DXHR except for a) the boss fights, which were extremely irritating if you built your augs for stealth, like I did, and b) the Endingtron 3000. Seriously, you come to a room and there are 3 buttons in front of you and your ending depends on which one you hit.
-
you forgot the forth one
. Oh yeah and that's why people said Mass Effect 3 pulled a Deus Ex.
-
Heh nice to see
Hopefully more 1.6ers try the game out a bit more.
valve need to work on movement and it seems silencers are imminent
Map Workshop is being released on beta as well so we can get some excellent community maps in matchmaking. Really excited for this, l4D2 workshop is fantastic
-
Well at least the fourth one is in a different room.
-
Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3 were absolute letdowns for me.
D3 was just too short to justify the price, and ME3 made me feel all that effort poured into the first 2 games were pointless. 3 Choices; Die, die and die. -
Battlefield 3. Every single cent wasted on that game. That's the value I put in that game, zero.
-
MP was amazing or you played just SP? Maybe you just sucked at it...game was epic.
-
FYI, the more skilled you are at shooters overall, the less likely you will like BF3.
BF3 is one of the games that I would say is "not my thing".
This would be mostly because I am old-school when it comes to shooters and prefer truly competitive and accurate FPS games.
BF3 is an arcade-style shooter game with big explosions and that allows low-skill players to get kills with cheeze if they couldn't hit the broad side of a battleship at point blank.
High-skill competitive players who are looking for a game that reflects their personal skills or that works as a simulation will be disapppointed. -
As opposed to what?
-
Well basically any FPS without a hit cone and auto-aim that focuses on simulation.
Arma II
Certain mods for BF2
Rainbow Six Series
BF3 was designed for the console crowd. They can't let them miss every time even if they deserve to or the vast majority of their playerbase would stop playing. -
Auto aim? What?
-
A lot of FPS games (Halo, CoD, Battlefield, etc.) have a feature called auto aim, where the software will guide your gun aim at the target when you get relatively close to the target. For example, your crosshair is maybe a meter from the target's arm, so the software will slow your gun movement so that you don't overshoot the target's body when you pass over it with the crosshair. This also explains where in these games you can shoot slightly past / behind your target and still hit or kill them (though this is also a function of "your coding is lazy").
It's there because casuals will cry foul when their crap aim doesn't touch their target.
Aimbot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -
Far Cry 3.
A hyped up young yuppy storyline with egos bigger than Ben Hur and wildlife that was bigger than the Amazonia..
Looking back at it it cries foul ugly with elements of voodism yet somehow strangely I found Citra Talugmai very sexual especially in that skimpy outfit... 8-O
An interesting mix nevertheless... -
I think he knew that. Although BF3 doesn't have auto aim at least not on PC. And it doesn't matter. I can be spot on and it still doesn't always kill the enemy.
-
Actually it does... a leftover from the console.
Admittedly, CoD is worse as BF3 tries to turn it off for the PC version.
The auto-aim is disabled onthe PC in multiplayer or single-player above medium difficulty by default, but it doesn't take a genius to turn it back on. Google is full of how to turn it back on and pretty much every kiddie you are fighting probably does have it on.
Even if by some miracle you and your opponents are choosing to play fair without the auto-aim, the hit cone mechanic is still there.
BF3 is a console arcade game at heart. It is what it is.
