My 3dmark jumped up about 50 points from 174.31 to these. I need to really start testing the games though. Been lazy ;)

Hi Forerunner, would it be possible for you to provide one for the Quadro 140M (from the Lenovo T61). Would be wonderful and greatly appreciated!

Quit using 3dmark after it crashed my overclocked gpu while all my games could handle those speeds. Vantage is not a very good indicator since going to 5-6 fps is not niceablle. If iI hit 8 fps I jump for joy.

I can try by modding the inf. Since geforce and quadros use different drivers altogether. I can try modding an inf for you using his inf as an example. Never did this before can't guarantee that it will work. Your comp will be fine though.

Whats the advantage of unstalling our driver first and running reg cleaner as opposed to just installing and running reg cleaner.

3410 stock, 4340 at 615/515. However ATITool shows me artifacts (175.80 didn't at those same clocks) so I'll step my clocks down until I'm artifact free again. Looks like I'll be able to pull the same scores at lower clocks (And also lower temps) so that's good.

Tried these last night. Not good for my notebook as they (like all 175 series) cause stuttering which is related to the GPU downclocking. It is NOT related to heat. Looks like I will be sticking with the 177.35's for the time being.

then change the reg key perflevelsrc from 3333 to 3322 and that should take care of downclocking. to completly remove it, set it to 2222 and it will never down clock

nah... it's not the driver. it's the inf file. the settings conflict with what your computer is set to run the game at. easiest thing to do is restore video defaults or use quality mode to check how the drivers really work.

Nope, Done that lot. I have found that none of the 175 series drivers work on my notebook, yet the 177's do, also I first started seeing this issue when 174.31 came out. I have reinstalled Vista on several occasions so can rule that out as well. I've even disabled lots of things I don't use in the device manager (modem, ExpressCard, IRDA etc).

Well installing and safe booting ensures that old they keys are removed because some of thema re not removed if background nvidia services are running.

Are you overclocking? Memory can usually overclock but is restricted by heat. While core will crash due to voltage and power issues which just need trial and error to figure out. Other than that no experience with the random downclocking. Mine only does that when my gpu crashes and it makes it very apparent when it crushes, not just like a sudden change.

I'd like to use any of the 175 series, so I guess 175.19, My GPU is 8600mGT DDR2 with 512MB. Do you honestly think you can help? I would be very happy should anything come of this.

@forerunner. No I am not overclocking. I don't see the point just yet. I'd just be happy getting all drivers to run properly first. The instability is not random. It goes something like this: Start a game. Run fine for 10-15 secs then clocks drop to 275 core 200 mem, 20 secs later clocks drop to 168 core 100 mem. That is with or without Powermizer enabled (and yes I've checked it is disabled in the CurrentControlSet of the registry as well as the older control sets.

wow thank you Forerunner for posting this with your modded infs thank you Stormeffect for making it more clear with you explanation on how to install the drivers and thank you Mi3X for going into detail on how to change the inf from .doc to .inf.

Ok with 3dmark06 demo version I went from 7249 with 174.31 to 7555 with 175.19 with my Toshiba x205 sli1. Nice!

Also I have UFO Afterlight and with the other drivers there was a known glitch when setting the shaders to max in game it would mess up the graphics and this driver remedies the prob. right on.

What I wanted to know though is when I go to control panel and look at the display properties it says the drivers is NOT digitally signed. So I was wondering could I use the 174.31 inf and replace the modded inf that Forerunner provided with the 174.31's cause 174.31 is digitally signed, and would that make it digitally signed? Cause I thought these were official or WHQL or something like that.

Again though thanks for squeezing more power out of my computer and keeping it up to date with these drivers and please help me with my question.

    Mahalo.

The desktop driver is WQHL, but as soon as the modded inf is added, it loses the signature. There's nothing we can do about that, as far as I know.

I recall reading something about using the OEM inf to have it WQHL or certified or whatever its called. So anyway what about the idea of using the 174.31 inf would it be compatible and why is the 174.31 digitally signed?

Yeah, I'm always checking my temps with Hardware Monitor however it's not always possible to compare, since room temperature differs a lot in summer.
That's why I wrote "I have the feeling" ;) My max. Temps were around 86°C with 175.19, before that I had the 175.80 from laptvideo2go and max Temps of around 82°C however room temperature was lower...

anyone use this with the compal jfl92 or similar (re-branded) with the 8600gt 512mb ddr2 card? is it working out or not?? thanks.

also doing the update driver thing would that still retain the digital signature of the driver? i wonder why more people do not do this if so?? i know there can be issues but i have upgrade drivers that way often and never had a issue?

Assuming said user is still interested, I redid the benchmark before leaving for work this morning. My conclusion is that scenes 1 to 3 improved slightly while the foliage in scene 2 still reduced my fps to the mid-high 20s.

This is definitely the best driver available for Age of Conan.

The results are smoother play and less bugs by far.

I'd like to extend a big thank you to the individuals who helped set up the 8700m INF.

I'd also like to ask exactly how you created it...
-start with the stock inf for this driver and add the 8700m key?

WHQL is just a branding by microsoft essentially saying that this driver has been tested to be fully compatible with vista/xp, whatever os your doing. Even if you lose the digital signature it doesn't change anything since the signature has nothing to do with performance or anything but just something that says that it is wqhl. Also I use run the program dxdiag and it says these are whql. Hope that helps!

Again refer to above but generally inf's from other companies don't work well if at all so its not recommended. Sometimes infs from the same series of drivers work but not always. Like I said if the drivers are whql they are certified even if they lose the signature, but mine haven't by looking through dxdiag.

Yeah I didn't change anything. Just created strings and installer information for our mobile gpus.

    I'll pm you about it.

Just tested them with your inf you supplied. Excellent work. Whatever you did to the inf file (pm me details please) has done the trick. They still downclock at idle/on the desktop, and the overall temperatures have decreased. But the performance in game has gone down a bit. I noticed the AA was set to 8x in the nv control panel. A bit much for my GPU I think. Changing it back to "Let the app decide" improved performance a lot, but they are still not quite as fast as 177.35 or 177.39 for me. I'll stick with them for the time being though as they reduce the temperature for a little less performance. Once again, thank you. +repped.

i didn't do anything to them.. all i did was add you card to the factory inf. i made no changes as of yet.

now do you understand what i mean by it's the changes in the inf files that conflict with how your system is running?

edit: it's suppose to down clock like that when in idle. to lower the gpu temps faster, but the minute you do anything having to do with 3d... it jumps right back up to where it's suppose to be..full speed.

i took this one directly out of the install folder and added the the main strings for the 8600m gt & 8800m gts. none of that mobile nv stuff or the other tweaks are in there. so it is set exactly how it came from nvidia's website. i downloaded it from them. so to answer your question.....yes, it is different.

edit: call of duty ran smooth as silk and i was running the mouse all over the place fast. with everything on high. using global settings in stead of application specific.
but yet it took way long to cool the gpu down for me, so i'll probably revert back to my 177.35's

His and mine are basically the same. We didn't modify or tweak it with l2gs tweak which often create problems.

Yes overall these are pretty good drivers and almost everyone has seen some form of improvement.

I understand the reason for my card to slow down when not running 3d apps. Looks like the "Tweaks" l2vgo do cause more trouble than it's worth for me then. I don't understand why when I used the inf supplied by Forerunner I had problems, but the one you did works perfect. I'll compare them directly with each other to see what the difference is.
