just edit the version number in the inf file at the top.

Thank you very much. Will use the XG inf and reinstall the 175.19 drivers. Thank you.
Gary -
I can't seem to get these files loaded no matter what I do it says that I none of the drivers work with my hardware. I have a 512MB DDR2 8600M gt. I've extracted the files from the exe on nvidias site and added the modded inf by changing the extension. Someone help please.
-
The forced-driver-load from post #228 did work for a co-worker of mine. The key is to NOT USE Driver Sweeper/Cleaner prior to the update. If you did, go ahead and reload the previous NVidia drivers, then go into the device manager's video card section to manually select the 175.19 update files that were extracted to c:/nvidia after launching the executable.
-
has anyone else had any trouble adding custom resolutions with this driver?
-
I've done that but when I go to Have Disk and try to select my card it has a bunch of drivers but no 8600m GT. Only 8700m GT, but when I open the inf file in notepad I can clearly see the 8600m GT.
-
That didn't work but I did get the installer to work with another inf. The problem is after I reboot gpu-z and the device manager still say im using 169.09. Running 3dmark to see if theres any change.
-
You actually have to select an 8600 GT, not 8600m-GT, to get this trick to work properly.
Changing the .inf file also breaks the WHQL certificate installation, which prevents Dell Media Player from running BluRay disks.
I just finished updating my system to 175.19. Everything seems fine so far, and I have noticed some improvement in HGL and UT3. Best of all, my Dell Media Direct Player is working again
-
so you did the have disk method or used a inf?? ^^^^
-
Well these drivers have huge stutter problems in most games I have tested compared to XG´s 175.63 drivers. So for XPS M1730 SLI at least for me I stay away from these.
-
Probably stick with the XG for a while, till the new one comes out
-
yeah, mine we're not for sli
-
but it still works with the older inf from the XG driver.. ohwell people get freaked out when missing files pop up. its just calling some non existent files guys.
-
I actually have better fps with the XG´s than I had with these
Oh by the way I just managed to tweak Crysis on my SLI 8800m GTX and at 1920x1200 DX10 to run at an average of 37 fps in the benchmark test. my best so far. Not bad considering how good it looks
-
yeah... i have better fps with using 177.35 or 39 than these. and the 177.41 dont seem to over clock to their full potential.
-
New XG coming this week. gonna give it a test as soon as its out for beta testers.
-
Hey Sorry for being lazy
Is there a Vista 64bit inf for the 8600M GT in here?
-
did xg write some new dll files? or are they just modding the inf file for the original driver?
-
i dunno, all i care about is they give Big performance and Highest IQ,so its defintaly not just an inf to support more cards, go over there and ask them
-
i run there drivers as well. im not partial to any one driver set. although the best drivers we're the 175.63's( not xg's) which i got some of my high 3dmark scores with. but once i found out what was going on in the inf's... i pretty much made a 169.09 break 11k. that's why i was asking.
edit: not saying anything about xg's. i think i used a laptopvideo2go inf for that run. -
Overall good drivers, but my lappy runs much hotter with these drivers, around 84C, which is around 10C higher than 175.12
swank -
I used the Have-disk method. Using a modified INI prevents the WHQL certificate from transferring over properly otherwise. Unfortunately Dell Media Direct requires WHQL certificates for their BD-player to function.
-
Which games have you tested? I've tried Hellgate London DX9 + 10, UT3, and Guildwars with no problems whatsoever, and a good 20%-40% frame rate improvement. I did upgrade from 175.16 to 175.19 using the have-disk method. My SLI video settings are set-up for "balanced" performance with application-controlled AA.
I previously tried 175.63, but had to remove them when I realized that sleep/hiberate recovered sessions would BSOD too often. -
just to many stinking drivers to try.. way to much install uninstall to try them all.. these seem okay but i have not tried the 177 series yet.. should i??? or is there a better 175 version? i want them stable no bsod's or sleep issues
now am i correct if i uninstall these with the modded inf and reinstall the 167's then use the have disk method they will still be signed?? but in device manager it will still show the driver version as 167.xx?? -
Me thinks you should try the 177.41. This is stock gpu settings with my cpu at 3.2ghz using the bios overclock not setfsb.
-
ive heard of people having issues with those though??
-
Problems like what?
-
heat, downclocking, stuttering etc..
curious: when using the have disk method and updating using the 8600 gt instead of the 8600m gt what is the real difference?? is there any.. i see as someone else said this allows the driver to still be signed.. ?? -
I have no idea about signed drivers...and using the have disk method. People who have to go through the device menu to update the drivers seem to just make things more complicated than it needs to be. Add the modded inf to the driver folder hit setup and let it run and run run a cleaner program after that. I use ccleaner and have had no problems EVER.
As for problems with the driver, stuttering is a no, downclocking nope, heat doesn't seem any different at all. -
yes but i have a 8600m gt in this system.. remember i sold the sager w/ 8800.. running a compal jfl92 for a while till i decide on something else.. not sure how that driver will work with the 8600..
-
Well ok had these drivers for like 2 weeks now and a few pages back someone that had the same system like mine mentioned downclocking or stutter probs, which I responded I didn't notice on mine until I tried running just on battery power.
I noticed when playing COD4 multiplayer with fraps running ,when my battery starts getting to about the 50% level my fps start to take a hit. I was starting to think something was terribly wrong with my system because the game started getting choppy and the fps would drop to like 11 fps and that never happened before. Then my notebook beeped and that reminded me that I was running on batteries so I plugged the ac adapter in while still playing and I noticed the fps in the left hand corner jump back up to 60fps. I tried doing a search on downclocking and notice a lot of different solutions that I guess never really remedied the prob. I here ppl blame powermizer or vsync etc. but I really think it's these new drivers ,the 175. and up, cause the 174.31s never slowed down like this even on 10% battery power. And I think 174.31 was actually meant for laptops as opposed to 175.xx which are meant for desktops, which explains why the fps shot back up when I plugged in my notebook. These drivers are excellent performers but they need a constant supply of electricity, which makes my notebook less mobile. I hope Forerunner makes another post for a better version for notebooks that won't downclock mine cause I feel trapped to an outlet now. I do like these but might go back to 174.31. -
;>.> well its not like your computers gonna blow up if you try it.
-
yeah i saw some odd things on battery but i thought i was crazy.. hmmm any other thoughts on the 174.31 vs these? i had a few wierd things while on battery and they went away as the above poster stated when i plugged in.. even some web sites didnt load right and aero got really choppy..but when i plugged it it seemed fine again
-
drivers are downclocking. some use mobile_nv_nv3x and then there are some using nv_nv3x with a few other things going on.(short version of story)
most of the time in mobile_nv_nvx3 they stay locked till you plug in, then it goes back to 3d mode or full power mode. (speculation of course) -
I personally like the 174.31 drivers they push all my games smoothly and it's digitally signed, also no problems whatsoever. The only reason why I wanted to upgrade was to see how much more power I can squeeze out of my notebook and keep it modern. These 175.19 drivers squeezed out a significant amount according to 3dmark06. I went from 7249 with 174.31 to 7555 with 175.19. although my nvidia control panel locks up now and the performance with battery issue might make me roll back I'll give it a little more time.
-
anyone has nv4_disp.inf for 8400M GS running on XP 32 bit
-
Dear khanhtung, just go over laptopvideo2go.com and download a new driver modded inf and you are good to go.
-
oh thanks for fast reply but i want to install forceware 175.19 for 8400M GS running on XP 32 bit so i need nv4_disp.inf modded .Is this possible ?
-
you can get the Nv4_disp.inf from Laptopvideo2go, it has your card supported man, just donwload and inf from there.
-
ok thanks bro
-
well ran 3dmarko6 pro version on the jfl92 with 8600gt 515 ddr2 at 1024 res and on battery i got 3328 and on plug i got 3333?? doesnt seem like its downclocking during 3dmark?? why the other issues..
-
These are also bad overclockers. With 174.74 I can push my 8800m GTX to 625/1550/950 without any artifacts in ATI tool. With these I can´t even overclock to 600/1550/900 without artifacts in ATI tool. Besides the performance isn´t any better in these than they are in 174.74.
-
The manage 3d setting option in Nvidia control locks up but I can access all the rest of the options, is this normal? And what you did seems like a scientific method which I'll try later although like I said performance deteriorates below 50% battery I'm assuming cause I don't notice the fps drop until about 45 min into gaming. My notebook battery dies in about an hour it's a sli rig, so actually yeah I do need to be by an outlet although sometimes I like to sit down outside my house.
-
Nope I take everything back what I have said regarding these drivers. Crysis runs great and my peak temp with these drivers in Crysis is only 77 degrees celsius. These really are great drivers for the 8800m GTX SLI
-
I'm sorry guys, I kept up with this thread for a while, but lost it. Is there a modded .inf for the 8800GTS. I know it says on the first post there is, but is the link under the line about the 8800GTS the .inf?
Thanks for all the help guys! -
the inf from Johnksss for some reason now does not work on the 8600m gt. the original one i used was from him but the one linked in the first page now will not work for some reason it just says the driver was no modified and asks for a reboot.. i luckily had the original one he made and used that and it works fine..
-
Does the .inf have to be 64bit? If so, is the original 8800GTS .inf on the first page 64bit?
Eh, screw it, downloading anyway. -

Nope, doesn't work. Says Windows could not locate any hardware compatible with driver. I know how to replace modded .inf's. I haven't been able to get ONE driver to work on this computer aside from Gateway's.
