To be fair you don't even have the type of system which would let you experience 144Hz in every single game you play.
The thing about high frame rates is that once you get used to living with it as the norm and ALWAYS having it, then you go back to 60fps and 30fps, you can actually notice a difference.
You should have upgraded your GPU before buying a 165Hz monitor.
I am such a weakling with horror. I was so proud of myself for completing Dead Space 1, it's the first action/horror game I was able to finish since System Shock.
I started Dead Space 2 but chickened out lol, the monster designs are freaking diabolical, like those swarms of little kids or those bird things that peak around corners then bum rush you. I really should muscle up and go back to it someday.
-
It is a big difference. It's the difference between a laggy game and a smooth one. 60 fps is not smooth at all, it's laggy. 30 fps is like a slideshow.
The biggest factor here is that you have to have the hardware to get 144 fps in every game you play to notice a difference. There are some games that default to adaptive Vsync, so if you can't sustain 144 fps, it caps the framerate to 72 fps, which would explain why it doesn't look much different to you.
If nothing else, you now have a screen with better colors, so it's still worth having even if you don't notice an improvement.
I noticed the difference immediately when I got my first 120 Hz monitor. It was amazing and I never wanted to go back to a 60 Hz monitor ever again. 60 Hz monitors now piss me off when I look at them.

Really? Thought most gamers had been fairly desensitized and used to typical horror games by now. The only game that still makes me nervous is Dying Light at night. Maybe turn off the sound that usually cuts a lot of the scary out of it but I've played the DS series several times and many horror games that it's not really scary anymore to me.
Yeah I can see if you get used to a high hz monitor and high fps you get conditioned to it so going back you notice the difference much more. No reason to based on my typical whole system budget at this point. -
Days Gone. Never heard of this until yesterday. Seems fun so far, just played a few hours and its basically my open world cup of tea and I like the modern setting compared to other things I've played.

I played some of Desperados III. I like it. I may buy it since its on sale at $20.

Tried Desperados 3 a while back, never could get into iso games like that, thought I'd like it since I was really into company of heroes 1 a long time back, could probably pull coh1 out again, coh2 was overly complicated and online focused, I think bot skirmish outside the campaign was either not there or online idk, have gb's of custom maps for coh1.
-
I decided not to buy Desperados 3. It would just be another game I haven't finished yet.hertzian56 and JRE84 like this.

Just finished Dead Space 3 and man what a great game, loved it, still think 2 was the best overall in the context of space horror but 3 gets a lot right. I've replayed this whole series multiple times and go back every few years, enjoyed this round. None of the grind/political stuff of most games nowadays just game. They don't make them like that anymore.
Really cool flying sections, cool new puzzles, you can load up any chapter and start from there. I got a couple bugs, including during the moon battle, couldn't finish it had to skip over. Once I got to a certain point it would just bug out and the screen would go grey.
The nonsensical cringey Ellie story(and what about her eye?) love triangle takes away a lot. Nonsensical partner actions that make it necessary for the moon fight too lol No manual save options either but kind of negated by the separate chapters you can play in the menu. Wish the co-op gated sections were available for single players.
I can't believe they didn't continue with 4, the ending of the last DLC obviously points to another game or I guess the aliens win if that's it, wasted their time in the whole series lol. Already started another round of Dead Space 2. Love those games, so well done to me.Last edited: Sep 21, 2021 -
Started Pheonix Point year one edition, for the nostalgia of Ufo Enemy Unknown

Since I've finished the Dead Space series and effectively played the he# out of TW3 fired up Red Dead 2 again, beautiful but man the micromanaging stuff takes some getting used to such as the horse and yourself and your guns, wish they had a gaming mode that disabled all that annoyance lol Most older games I've played didn't have this, GTA SA had it though. I just don't find it fun, imagine trying to get food for isaac or geralt and for his horse, haircuts, washing yourself/ horse, cleaning isaacs guns/geralts swords etc Doesn't appeal to me. It's like those mods that make gassing up in GTA or tire degradation oof.

i think i beat dirt 5 credits started rolling....not a bad game but short

Emulation of some classic oldies, (which don't feel that old when played way above what their original resolutions were and w AA). I can play on one screen and watch shows on the other at the same time and not too much heat output from my laptop. Haven't owned a proper tv in like 6 years but occasionally get the urge to watch some of my favorite shows.
Not much new in PC that looks too interesting, gonna watch some YT comparisons of the Alan Wake Remaster Vs. high 1k/2k original PC, most of the ones I can find right now are PS4 sorry no. Games mostly about story anyways.
Edit: from what I can see it does look better but in very minor ways, the game is so dark and foggy that the original PC version looks totally fine, has almost no bugs and is less than 10gb installed GOG version. One thing I see that I like better in the RM is looks like less bloom which is way out of control(lol) in the original Alan Wake PC. Alan seems to have gained facial weight in the RM too, strange. One of my all time favorites Max Payne 2 could have used an update/refresh/RM more than AW.
Edit: Used xpadder and dl profile for MP2 worked great.Last edited: Oct 12, 2021JRE84 likes this. -

Funny enough I replayed Alan Wake original, still have the gog version then went into American Nightmare which has better graphics and controls but playing the same levels 3x, not that interesting. Now I'm doing Max Payne 2 but it's taking some tweaking for win10, and can't get a controller emulator to work either. I can see it would be a total remake for that like the RE remakes, it's just too outdated to put on some new textures/paint.
Edit: used xpadder w dl profile for MP2 worked great. My current living conditions makes kbm really hard on my wrists and arms can't do it. Plus like to save my keyboard as much as possible, not really replaceable.Last edited: Oct 12, 2021JRE84 likes this. -

I've had PGA2k21 for a while but never played it well got into it and it's pretty fun at the beginner level, relaxing just like watching golf sans all the commercials and banter. I'm looking for a decent mini golf game but most are just a bit too cartoony for my taste. Emulations are still rocking it though.

I tried it out recently and preordered it. It has great art direction and design. So many cool elements.
EDIT: Oh damn it released today! Didn't even realize... wow.. firing it up! -
Everyone needs to have at least one game installed of the sort that allows them to light it up, do whatever it is you do in that game, but not tax a single brain cell doing it. Although in my case I usually combine that activity with a glass of wine so my brain cells are not exactly out of the line of fire.

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
For me these usually are Ubisoft games
Most of the time they are repetitive enough not to task brain cells too much and do have a somewhat enjoyable gameplay loop.
Speaking of Ubisoft games, currently playing Far Cry 5.
With Far Cry 6 coming out, I decided to finish Far Cry 4. Finished quite fast as I only had a few missions left from previous save, but was left craving for more, so decided to reinstall Far Cry 5.
Gotta admit, playing it now made a better impression on me. Previously I played it when it was just released and I didn't like it so much. But now I would put it above FC4 - more refined gameplay, better side missions and with some added tweaks installed through resistance mod it results into a pretty decent game. Sadly AI is still dumb. -
Told ya high framerate gaming is the best.
I don't settle for anything under 120 fps in any game. 144 fps is my preference. Sub 120 framerates start looking slow to me after you dip below 100-110.
I'm currently playing Just Cause 2. Man this game is fun! I didn't like the first game because it was pretty boring, but the second game is much better, kinda like with Dead Space. The fist one was boring, but the second one was much better.
I look forward to playing Just Cause 3 and Just Cause 4.JRE84 likes this. -
I just finished watching The Witcher last night, I though it was good although there was a mechanic they used which I didn't think added much of anything other than confusion. Considering I've read some of the books and played the game that isn't a positive thing in my mind, but, on to my point: Now I've got a hankering to fire up Witcher 3 but the enhanced version is so close; I'm stuck in the land of indecision.

Horizon chase turbo, really awesome retro racing game.
Nier Replicant, hmm kinda undecided so far not that interesting right now, doesn't look too great either, typical annoyances with this series like the mouse pointer stays on screen even with full screen and using a gamepad, typical obsessive weird jap menu madness etc -
I am also waiting to seewwhat the enhanced version of w3 will look like before I boot it up again. It's one of those games where if I drop it for a month I have to spend a couple days getting used to the controls again

Starting Resident Evil 7: Biohazard since its free on Game Pass. Getting into the Halloween spirit.

Finished the first play-through (ending A) of nier replicant, it's pretty cringey most of the time but did keep me playing for 15hrs so it's doing something right. I can perhaps make it through another half campaign for ending B. Probably end up just watching the various endings. Makes me want to re-play Automata which was much better.
