That was my whole point. Half of people with the card had no problems, the other half has endless problems. Believe me, I wish mine worked like yours did, but not so unfortunately, and I had it returned as "Faulty"...even reading this thread, you will find people with the exact same problems as I had. What an earth the problem actually is, is anyones guess, and it doesn't affect every X200 user, only some of them, guess you got lucky :D

Cool Havok.. I guess i did get lucky. But not so lucky as i cant upgrade the drivers for mine which would increase its performane by around 20%. WHen i try to install new drivers, it says that i need to have standard VGA drivers installed before it can complete installation!

Haven't a clue about City of Villians but I ran CSS on my shared X200M at 1024x768 on medium settings at about 30fps - it dropped to, at lowest, about 20fps in the biggest outdoor levels sections, but on the whole, it was totally playable at nice enough visual levels.

thank you very much, do you know what the igp stands for and if the ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP would run faster or better than the x200m?

I played those games bar San Andreas when I had an X200 and had no problems running DoD, CS and HL2 at 1024x768 on medium settings.

Did you even try to read the stickies? It is stated in there that the X1100/1150 is indeed faster:

Supreme Commander is a game that uses only very few high end graphics, it is not even a true 3D game, and therefore will be softer on the GPU. Supreme Commander will run on the X200M. In fact I would be surprised if it did not run on the GM950.

I mean I did not play SA on the x200. And the Source games, yes.

The original 1.6 would run on any junk card on high settings. :D

hello i am thinking of a buying a labtop with 128MB ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory, AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-34 (1.8GHz/1MB L2 Cache) & 1 GB of ram. I am wonding how will a pc like this be able to handle games like World of Warcraft, Ever quest 2 and Guild Wars which are the the most games a play on my destop pc ( yes i am a MMORPG freak). I am not in to first person shooters which to my understanding are the hardest type of game for any system to run. So my question is how will labtop with the items listed above be able to hand the games i listed and how long would this laptop last before i would i would need to replace it. thanks for the help

    Hi people.

I'm on the horizon of buying the Acer Aspire 3661WLMi from Shop Acer. Has anyone got it? Is it any good? Just looking for some feedback, that's all.

By the way, it's in this forum as it has an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M in it, which looks fantastic.

    Thanks in advance

    Matty.

If the X200 has 128mb dedicated it should be fine for gaming. (min-med setings on new games) and pretty high settings for games 1year+..

If all the memory is shared which i doubt as it seems like the newer version of the X200 that supports 256, it will be pretty bed for gaming as the RAM in it is pretty slow 333Mhz RAM.

Try to find out if it has any dedicated memory on the Graphics before you buy

Hey, I would like to compare the radeon 200m to the
GeForce Go 7600 256mb. I would like to know how much better the GeForce chip is and if it will run call of duty 2. My 200m that i currently have wont run the game at all.

X200m does work with Call of Duty 2.

But that aside, the 7600 wipes the floor with the X200.

My god you just couldnt compare the x200 and the 7600.. The 7600 is about 15 times more powerful. However the X200 can preform better than expected and i can play FEAR on low-med settings on my x200 at 800x600 res and enjoy perfectly smooth gameplay. But for the most part, the X200 cant really handle new games that well

It is very unlikely it will run C&C3, even on lowest setting. You can expect to have a dedicated GPU as a minimum requirement.

thanks for your help..... but yesterday i read on ign.com that in an interview with the developer he said it is going to have the same requirements as bfmeII because they use the same engine. And my 200m can play that on medium so i am assuming i will at least be able to play it on low

Its possible but even games running on the same engines have varying requirements. Take for example the Quake III arena engine - the game Quake III itself runs on 400mhz quite well, but some of its mods and later games based on the engine require minimum of 800mhz.

So yeah, it's possible; but I wouldn't be surprised if the x200 was insufficent to run the game.

I have a pretty simple question... Im looking to buy a new laptop and all i really want to play is Counter Strike Source, and Half Life Two... will these specs be enough to run it on medium settings... im not really good at computers so u might have to dumb down ur response a little :D

    -Mobile AMD Sempron(TM) 3300+ (2.0GHz/128KB)
    – FREE Upgrade to 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen!!
    – 32MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M
    – 1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
    – FREE Upgrade from 60 GB 4200 RPM to 80 GB 5400 RPM

I apologize if this has been answered before... i only read the first 18 pages or so... figured i would ask a direct question instead of keep reading through the next 40 pages

That would be a very poor gaming solution . . at least bump the video card up a notch (should be an option to go to 128MB on the Compaq V2000Z). Or, consider completing the FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum so we can recommend something.

Is this a better setup.. this is the V2000z that you recommended, what is the difference between this and the last model though? is it all about the graphics card? im not really sure

I apologize for my not-knowingness but im really confused

That's the upgrade - it gives you the 128MB shared graphics card instead of the 32MB one stock, plus you get an extra USB port and a media card reader. Well worth the money. That setup will run CS:S, but don't expect the highest visual quality . . tone down the resolution to SVGA (800x600) or XGA (1024x768), and medium settings should be playable. CS:S looks good on just about anything.
You could also force the game to run in DirectX 7 mode; while you loose the shading & shadows, there is a huge gain in performance and you could run it maxed out. Google to find out how to do that, it's pretty simple from what I remember.

The ATI Radeon Xpress200M will play most new games but not to full quality but the GPU will play them.
I just got this laptop yesterday with a ATI Radeon Xpress 200m and it plays Half Life 2 perfectly & Battlefield 2 pretty well.
Its better than most AGP8x graphics as it is on the new PCI Express 16x bus.
So stop saying the ATI Radeon Xpress 200m is junk as it isn't its note as good as the nVidia Geforce 6800+ or The ATI Radeon X600+.

Well guys the 200m isnt such a good card specifically for the newer games coming out now. Company of Heroes and Cities of Heroes are pretty demanding games and very recent aswell so the 200m will most likely not be able to run those too well.

You might want to consider a new laptop, or a cheap gaming desktop, you can get a decent gaming desktop for around $800-900. :)

You've got to be kidding me. I have a Geforce go 6600 and a P-M 1.86 GHz (533 FSB) with 512 mb ram and half-life 2 plays okay at medium settings, but hardly "perfectly". Unless you're playing at 640 X 480 and low settings, I sincerely doubt it plays "perfectly". In which case it is hardly worth playing!

Also, the PCI express business is meaningless - the 200m doesn't even fill a quarter of the potential AGP bandwidth!

City of Heroes is over 2 years old, maybe more! Oh and no offence but the old 'buy a new laptop' suggestion is getting very VERY old. It's jut not a viable solution for some of us so please, let's stick to the topic in hand.

Hello, sorry if this is a bit of a thread bump, i found this page through google. I'd pretty much resigned my laptop as unsuitable for gaming due to it's Radeon xpress 200M. Reading this thread however people talk of playing HL2; mine can't even run Darwinia properly! Is there something wrong, or could this be expected from my specs? I don't really understand Laptop hardware naming conventions... such as the sempron; is this a good CPU?

    Specs:
    512MBDDR RAM
PCI Express Radeon Xpress 200M (Shared memory)
    AMD Sempron 2800+

Obviously the shared memory is a problem, lowering my system RAM to 312ish.

The 512mb of ram is slowing you down. get 1GB or 2 and the x200 will play games smoother.
