    We just got our V2000Z with ML-34 processor and 256MB RAM. We swapped out the RAM for 2 512MB sticks of Corsair PC3200 RAM. I just downloaded Half Life 2 and the Omega drivers. I ran it at whatever the lower 16:9 resolution is (something like 880x440 or so). With default recommended settings I was getting typically 25-60+fps indoors. As I walked out into City 17, it dipped to 15 with the big building showing. Elsewhere outside it was above 25fps.

    I then switched to DX 8.1 mode, same resolution, with high texture, high model, low shadow, trilinear. City 17 went up to 20-25fps when coming through the door, and everything else was even smoother outdoors.

    In general, I'm pretty **** impressed. Will this laptop/video configuration knock people's socks off? Of course not. But when traveling and sitting in a hotel room, being able to play HL2 to kill some time is a definite plus. I'm actually really impressed with this Radeon 200m!

    Well, on my current setup with 256mb of ram (64 of that going to the 200M) i installed half life 2 demo, it worked, it took a lifetime to load, but it worked, i was getting around 30-40FPS with 800x600 and everything turned down and DX9

    im getting my 1gig of ram in the mail tommorow, so expect me to be grinning!

    Yeah, the first load always takes a long time after the install. After that, the load times weren't too bad for me. A gig definitely helps. Like I said, not mindblowing or anything, but the fact that its running a current generation game this well is really nice for a small, budget, thin laptop.

    I agree. HL2 seems to be the shining point of the 200M that really sets it apart from other IGP units. I know I've mentioned it before, but here are my default HL2 settings showing off the 200M:

    Anyone know how Call of Duty 2 will play on this, as well as the Quake III engine? I'm looking at getting an HP with this little card in it.

    HP Special Edition L2000 Notebook PC

    * – AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-32 (1.8GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
    * – 14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x768)
    * – ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/productivity ports
    * – 1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
    * – 80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive

    Thanks

    Call of Duty 2 plays @ 1024x768 with all options on low. Its not very pretty, specialy after playing on a 6800Ultra.

    Thanks for the response. Understanding that it's not going to look as pretty as it can with other machines, is it at least playable?

    Well, you can put Call of Duty 2 in DirectX 7 mode and get far superior performance. I wouldn't use DirectX 9 unless you had a top-end video card.

    Just go into Options and change the Rendering Mode Preference to DirectX 7.

    Just reminding everyone to get the latest drivers for the 200m. I just installed catalyst 6.2 drivers and it was a blow out! NHL06 went from pretty much unplayable at lowest res and settings to smooth sailing at 1024x768 with eVERYTHING cranked!

    I can not play generals on mine, but looking at the performance others are getting in the thread, I would say yes.

    On mine I get 20fps on mine, thats at 1280x768 Max every thing, with 4XAA and 8XAF, but putting every thing on min at 800x600, I only get 22fps.

    So i've decided to call my laptop the freak, and not bother with games...

    Oh, all the older ones run fine though, just not the 3D ones :(

    Don't enable Anti Ailasing on a card as low-end such as the X200M. It destroys your performance. Also, turn off the Antistrophic filtering.

    Of course it can't run them because the settings are too high . .

    When I ment every thing on low, that was with out AA and AF, what I was trying to say, is changing the graphics settings make very little, if any difference to the fps, on any 3d game I play.

    Ahhhh, I just wish I could play some games, I don't want top notch or any thing, just playable. :(

    HL2 plays fine on the X200m....that is as long as you dont expect to run it in DX9 with all the settings maxed out.

    Ok, Well the games I have played on my Notebook are...

    Medievil : Total War, 1024x768 every thing min settings, 20fps, 0.5fps when fighting, some times slower

    GTA : Vice City, 1024x768 max settings in game, very playable, 30fps when driving and stuff, 5fps when raining or shooting.

    Farcry, 800x600 Min Every thing, about 25 - 30fps in side, about 10 - 15fps out side

    Hitman Contracts, Every thing on min, 15 - 20fps, about 10 out in the rain

    Age of empires 3, 800x600 every thing on low, about 15 - 20fps

    I've probably tried some others, but yeah,maybe it faulty or some thing, or she wasn't just made for games :(

    You're not clear on your problem.
    Can he NB run using the transformer?
    Does the connector fit in the NB connection at all?
    HP uses a very universal connection, most NB transformers have the neccessary connection. Post a couple of pictures and write your problem correctly.
    Replacement transformers can be bought for as little as 30 euros.

    well, you could play it on that, but you really want to be looking at a X1600, X700, I think the GF6600 would be ok too. If you have a look at the graphics card sticky there is alot of information about the different cards, but you want to bee looking at the midrange up really.

    Thats the dilemma i'm having - finding a notebook w/ a quality GPU in my price range which is around $1000-1300. I was able to configure a Dell E1705 w/ x1400 gpu for around 1300 IIRC. But I could spend a lot less and get an HP v2000z w/ 128mb ATI RAdeon 200m, which is why I asked if the 200m could handle a game like bfme2. I should also note that I am not big on high fps games, any notebook suggestions would be appreciated.

    I'd look at the Quanta KN1-PM from www.ISTNC.com with the 128MB Go6600 and Pentium M processor. You can get a decently configured one for less than $1,300.

    14": MSI-1022 and the Compal EFL-30 are notable choices.

    I merged your thread with this one because it is asking the same question.

    X200M and BF2 . . . I'd have to say that's going to be hard to run, if at all. I don't own an X200M-based notebook, so I can't give you exact results, but you will have to run on the absolute lowest settings.

    The X200M is not a gaming chip and wasn't designed for it, so don't expect miracles. . .

    No. the ati 200m graphics is not what you would call a great chip for gaming. If you did play bf2 on it im shure it would be lucky to get 20 fps on the lowest setting possible. You at least need an ati x300/x1400 or nvidia 7300/7400 to even get in the ok range. For bf2 tho I wouldnt suggest anything less than a x700/x1600 or nvidia 6600/7600 go for a solid gaming experience. There are alot of great priced notebooks out there that offer these better graphics chips. I suggest you do 2 things. 1, go to the sticky on this forum that chaz has posted about graphics cards. And 2, go list what price and what games your looking to play in the "What notebook should i buy?" category stickied here also.
