Wow man, it ran on your hd 3200. What settings were you playing it on and how many fps were you getting. Iam only asking you this because my laptop harddrive broke and i have to wait for a new one. I have the 3450 so its liike 1.5 times faster the hd 3200 i think.
    +1 if you respond.

I don't like it, not because it’s too arcady, but because of that awkward camera with assistance off. I could live with all the other stuff, but the camera is so weird, I have no idea which way i am pointing :)

Runs playable on low at 800by 600 on my nvidia geforce go 6150 laptop. That amazing. It runs about 25 fps. So I would say this game has very good optimization.
    EDIT the 6150 is integrated

I have only played the demo of HAWX and Ace Combat 6 for the 360 and they play nearly the same (well of course!). Is this game getting more recognition because it's on the PC and has Tom Clancy's seal as well? I thought Ace Combat 6 looked better and played better. I will say that the demo level of HAWX felt more intense.

Also, what's the point of the out of cockpit view (forgot what they called it). I think I missed the point during the lesson thing, but it's hard as heck to control precisely using that camera view.

I actually read that as well, but I tried it today, and I did NOT have 4 installed on this pc, and FreeFalcon5 installed just fine, and plays like it's suppose to. I think they say you have to install Falcon4 to cover their butt for maybe liability or copyright issues? All I can figure, as, it runs fine for me without doing anything except downloading and installing.

Yeah, it should run just fine on the 3450. i'm using 1024x768, high textures, and low on the rest, and it runs fine. The framerate test it includes shows average of 45fps, with maximum of 120... in actual gameplay using FRAPS, I'm getting 35-65, mostly in the 40's though. Only time it slows down to low 30's or at the worst mid 20's for a brief moment or two is in the heated battle of demo mission 2 where there's 6 bombers, tanks, landing craft, fighters, plus my wingmen all shooting each other at the exact same time with smoke trails everywhere. And even then it's still totally enjoyable. You should be just fine as long as you don't crank everything up! Good Luck!

EDIT: As a comparison, using just one of my 8600GT's in my Toshiba (my current drivers don't enable SLI in the demo and I haven't adjusted it yet), I can max the game at 1440x900, no AA, and 45+fps are the norm. So, really not an overly demanding game, but does look good. Clouds and smoke look very nice.

It looks alot of fun, as I do love Ace Combat as well, but Ace Combat is also built upon a compelling world similar yet different to our own (it's called Stranger-Real) especially in the third AC installment. This is really just GRAW in the sky it seems. Too bad that very few devs go after such lush visuals (at the cost of draw distance of course!) along with more simulation type controls, but got to please the casuals I guess. Ulgh. Can't wait to get DCS Black Shark and bring on the new installments! True simulators will live on!

They really need to enable cockpit view with assistance off, it pisses me off that we only get absolute control of the plane in the cinematic third person view which really sucks.

Very cool those screenshots over Rio de Janeiro. The color palette is off, and the density/scale of buildings is also wrong in some places, but the grid of the city is right, and I can recognize easily many city landmarks.

In FSX/FS9, regarding only visuals, that would be better than the better payware Rio de Janeiro scenario there is.

I like this, played around with the demo for a while, seems to be very well optimized. I recorded at max settings 1440 X 900 get a little stutter from recording though. Here's the video.

You have a lot of control in either view it seems to me... plus it's not like it's difficult to switch between views.

Since you get like 300 missiles, I think that's where the majority of your shooting should be, and that's easy enough in assistance off mode. With assistance off though, all you're getting is the ability to see more and ability to do drifts and cool maneuvers like that.

I saw an interview yesterday on Youtube and one of the designers was saying that they expect you to not just use one or the other, but instead switch between both modes throughout a mission. We are supposed to learn when to use which I guess....

Edit: BTW! Someone posted this on another forum I visit, but you can open up free flight mode and also a Raptor I believe to use in this demo. Follow this thread:

^ The developers should not make us use multiple views if we do not want to. A lot of people would like to use cockpit view with assistance off. Besides with assistance off you only get one camera view and you can't choose where to look, for example with assistance off when a bogey is on your tail it locks you into a rear third person view and I cannot see what's in front of me.

I'm definitely note liking the assistance off view thing. It's confusing, and the fact that you can't control the camera is just stupid. I'm trying to look at an enemy RIGHT in front of the plane, but can't see it because the view is on the side.. There should be an option for a cockpit view.

Why did they even choose that view? It makes the game feel too arcadey. Performance wise, it runs great on my desktop, max settings, max AA, 1920x1080, 2x HD4850's in Xfire, 3GHz Q6600, 6GB PC8500 etc, about 90fps avg. But I could probably attribute that to the lack of geometry, I don't think the game is "optimized" because it runs so well, I think there just isn't much there, you've basically got a few plane models in the sky, and textured boxes on the ground with no actual definition in them, with paper trees, and a single large texture for the landscape. While it looks great from up high, it really isn't all that complex if you look at it a little closer. Basically they've added the ability to fly airplanes on google earth...

The assistance off is very strange. Perhaps there is better reason for it outside of the demo level, because it doesn't help much at all in the instances where we needed to use it during training.

Perhaps I'm just used to the classic views (behind the plane and the cockpit). There is a similar assistance off type of thing in Ace Combat that makes the camera focus on the enemy which I found to be more useful.

Did you guys go into the extra DX10 settings and turn up all those settings? In DX9 with all settings and 4xAA it runs really smooth. It was the DX10 that killed it.

I also haven't had any problems with other games......

I had similar issues with DX10. DX9 runs significantly better, and when I max DX10 with even no AA, I get 9fps... These are with Dox's 180's.

DX9 mode runs fantastic though. DX10 with the sunshafts was pretty, but not worth the hit.

I played through the training and first real mission and like the game. But yeah, the assist off camera is dumb. With assist off how are you supposed to get any gun kills?

I'm a hardcore combat flight sim guy, but games like this are fun and quick. Yes there are things that bug me like the afterburners on all the time, the cobra maneuver at 500 kph, and the virtually unlimited supply of missiles. But it makes for good fun.

The two things I'd like to see added or improved are:

    (1) Assist mode off user camera controls and ability to switch to any view.
    (2) Takeoff/landing/rearm/refueling. It would be fun, even if like in BF2 if you had to fly over your own airstrip and rearm/refuel. But landing periodically would be fun too. Like Comanche 4 which is an arcade chopper game with some sim elements, but you have to rearm periodically. It was quick and simple. Even something sci-fi like mid-air rearm and refuel, flying under a huge blimp or something (a la sky captain).

Just played the demo and it was pretty entertaining -- plus it ran smoothly at 1680 x 1050!

I can't stand the stupid 3rd person cinematic view and I am hoping there is a mod or patch to fix it because it is so pointless. Its so hard to anticipate the enemy's movements when you are looking at them from the side because you lose a lot of depth perception. And there is no HUD in the cockpit view???

Besides those two things it should be a lot like Ace Combat. Hundreds of missiles and full burners all the time without having to refuel. :D

Check out the icon I made for HAWX too:

What i would like to see in next patches is :

    Assistance of with different cameras,
    More destructible environments,
    Better water effects,
    landing and take offs,
    cockpit hud.
and some other small thing that i would like to have on game.

I still can remember how good novalogic was when making games like Mig-29, F22, F-16.

Lets hope that with patches HAWX will be as we whant cause i was waiting this game for ages to come out.

You select Dx9 or 10 in the in-game video options.

Edit: Ok, I'm wrong - in games explorer, right click and you see option to play HAWX DX10.
