So, thermal allowing, whatever johnkssss can do with SLI in his M18x single-bricked, I can do with SLI in my P370SM3? (Just wish to be 1000000% clear on this)

Ehhh I think some of you must be playing with the laptops in freezers or maybe dipped in liquid nitrogen. I was playing Tomb Raider yesterday at stock clocks and temps peaked at 88°C :S
The number of times that I have repasted is getting ridiculous now, though I've given the latest repaste over a month now to 'settle in'. Using Prolimatech PK-3. -
I believe some of the best are IC-Diamond and Cool Laboratory Liquid Pro/Liquid Ultra
-
OUCH!
Shadow Warrior. Applied a modest overclock and WHAM! Temps shot to 94°C and it throttled like mad. Woah, I mean why, why must my laptop hate overclocking so much? :'( At stock on that game temps reach 88°C BUT will reach 92°C if I only look in one direction (which keeps GPU load to 99% continuously). I have tried Arctic MX-2 and Prolimatech PK-3, with PK-3 being the currently applied paste. Damn, I just don't know what to do anymore. It just runs so hot, it's crazy. Fans are working fine, it's not them that's to blame. I get nice cool idle temps too. This was my best repaste which was why I've kept it, but it's only been a month and a half, not long. Shouldn't have to do another repaste already!
DAMN YOU HEAT!!! GO AWAY!!!Cloudfire likes this. -
Curious, what modest overclock are you using? Any bump in voltage? I can't see it being an issue old paste in a month ha
-
Have you tried using Nvidia Inspector to limit your framerate to 60? That should drop you temps a bit.
-
Did temps change over the several repastings you have done? What were your initial temps? In my GT60 I get as high as 92C on my GPU on "stock" which is 850mhz core and 1250mhz memory. However this is mostly due to the low fan speed, at full fan speed, I rarely get over 82C even overclocked to 980/1500.
-
It was +120 core/+500 mem I believe. Stock voltages. Maybe I could try undervolting? Or lessen the memory clocks maybe?
Yeah I always use VSYNC in games - hate the screen tearing with passion!
Yeah they went down by a few degrees when I tested it with Unreal Valley becnhmark. At stock originally I had 92°C on Unreal Valley, after the lastest repaste I tested for an entire hour and it reached 88°C max in Unreal Valley (this was about 6-7 weeks ago now). I don't know why it's now deciding to heat up again. I think it's because the game is so demanding - like Crysis 3 - it uses 99% of GPU load constantly without fail - which ends up pushing the GPU as if it's running a stress-test like FurMark!
Oh man 82°C? The MSI has a single fan if I'm correct? Surely my dual fan separate CPU and GPU fan setup should at least be equal to yours?
Hmmm, I dunno ambient temps are around 20°C indoors at the moment here in UK, and they'll go down a lot more as winter arrives if I keep my windows open and radiator off! I don't think that should be affecting it that much though.
I am tempted to try another repaste but I doubt I'll see much better results than I've already got unless I use a diferent paste (already tried two different brands - Prolimatech PK-3 [currently applied] and Arctic MX-2). Hmmm.... what to do, what to do.... -
if you put your fans up 100% playing a game how is your temps??
ryzeki is correct, if I put my fans on turbo my temps are 78-80c(after playing bf3 multy)ambient temps are 28c in Greece.
the msi have 1 fan but its bigger and more powerful than clevo fans
I had a clevo before

Motherboard power delivery limited.

Oh damm
the cap makes it perform like a 680m.
-
Yeah, I don't think so.
1: You need to run only that memory over clock and stock core. And then record the numbers
2: Run over clocked core and stock memory. And then record the numbers
Then come back and state which one is the bigger or more substantial improvement.
you could have raised the core 5 to 10 more mhz and got that same amount for that blown out memory over clock.Cloudfire likes this. -
By the way Meaker, I'm still waiting to hear a random scottish voice echo over the land saying "THIS IS SINGLE GPU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".

Not really no, the memory did not have a big impact on the core clocking in the end, 1625mhz allowed any core clock that would work at 1250mhz.
Also 24/7 having the high memory clocks has virtually no impact on temperatures so is a "free upgrade" from 1006/1450 to 1006/1625.reborn2003 and Cloudfire like this. -

Yes with a volt mod.
-
For 1.5 fps huh?
I'll have to pass on that.
1025/1450 with no temp change still beats that.
But it's a nice mod if it can run with core at 1.1 ghz up to 1.2 ghz.
But congratz on breaking the 1600 marker! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's temps that stop me going higher on the core
-
But these cards don't really get all that hot??? And 92C is like the max temp. What machine are you using?
-
If I remember right, he doesn't have the P375SM that he was planning to get yet, though he's already got a 330W adapter.
On that note, my cards appeared to run cooler after I tried overclocking them. I don't understand how, or why, but I'll be dipped in &#!( and rolled in breadcrumbs before I complain XD. -
Seems like the "old dogs" are tired or not interested in these new GPUs no world records and cool stuff this year

Didn't someone already world record with 16k in 3D mark 11?

So from most posts that i have seen, peoples Core clock lies at 324 Mhz and Memory clock at 2500 Mhz, While my Core clock is 771 Mhz and Memory Clock is 1250 Mhz?
I have the same graphic card? I did the 3dmark demo trial, didnt see any settings I could change or anything.
I am probably a total noob for asking this, but dont know where else to ask! -

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Your GPU is throttling, if you are hitting 94 degrees in the benchmark then there is an error with your heatsink.
-
Are you sure its the heatsink? I mean.. how can I tell?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Your temperatures are way too high so either the application is bad or the heatsink itself.
-
OMG.
Both to the 3DMark11 score and to that they FINALLY report the correct clock state. That will help a lot finding the real truth when someone brags about the performance of their GPU.
"Stock clock my behind. Cheater!"

For those who are interested, today I've overclocked my P150SM with 4700mq and 780m!
I found myself able to overclock my cpu to 3.6ghz single core, 3.5ghz dual core, and 3.4ghz quad core and a voltage offset of -95mv (could get an even lower voltage if I lowered single core performace a little).
I realized this using Prema's bios mod, I really recommend it and I also recommend donating something to him if you use and or like his mod.
Then I overclocked my 780M to 1010mhz on the core and 6ghz memory. The temps don't get over 80 degrees and the voltage offset is set to +12.5mv. (is this safe for daily usage, will this have a big (noticeable) impact on the lifespan?)
I realized this using SLV7's modded Vbios. Again, I really recommend his bios and if you like it, please donate towards further development of his mods.
I also found that even though the temperatures were well under the limits the pc was throttling. I'm suspecting this is due to a power shortage, so I'm considering buying and modding a 240w brick (also having one spare is never a bad idea).
I've found that when I disabled the keyboard lights and the display, the 3Dmark results were higher.
Here's the link to the score: Click.
Note that I could go higher but I didn't feel the need and at the moment I'm limited by either my power brick ( I think ).be77solo likes this. -
I have a question for the ol' OC community! I flashed my vbios a while back ( I use a Sager NP9390-S with SLI 780Ms) - and I never overclocked for anything other than playing with benchmarks. So the age old question:
What do people with similar setups (780M SLI) run as daily overclocks and what software is preferred? I know that no two chips are the same - but I just want a goal. In a tinkering mood and want to push games just a teeny bit further =) -
I use EVGA Precision X to OC and run on stock clocks in most games but with the Power Target at +146 (max for me). I also run SVL7's vbios. If I am playing Skyrim with my mods or Metro I need to overclock +120/400

Is that stock voltage?
-
Hell no
That would've been something.. -
I got 81°C in my latest repaste at stock clocks after running the Metro Last Light benchmark on a loop about 10 times. Overclocked at +100/+600 (950/1500) I saw temps of 91°C in that same benchmark. I hope that's safe enough! My memory can go even higher but the FPS difference becomes marginal - even the difference between +500 and +600 is under 1 frame! Probably worth dialling back the mem clock a bit for cooler temps.
Hah, yeah I thought it would be too good to be true. Mine gets to 950MHz stable on stock voltage, no further. I tried overvolting by +25mV to get to 880M stock clocks at 993MHz but it didn't work, I don't want to risk going much higher and frying the poor thing to death! :S -
here is my last effort after getting my temps all sorted im happy with this
HERE
this is with core @ +220 (1070) and mem @ +274 (2774) and +25.0 mv
max temp is 65'c for this test
im so happy right now
what is the highest firestrike score ATM with a single 780m?
