If any of you kind gentlemen/ladies who work at bestbuy who are reporting this for us happen to know of when the prior model will be going on clearance, please feel free to share =). If I can find the 6860FX for 300-400 off it just might be worth it =).

Already camping the website. Do you have any speculation as to how much of a markdown they 'might' issue for this laptop?

Personally, stores are already out of them for the most part, so I doubt we even mark them down because of the fact that we are nearly out of them completely. If you want it, go get it and have them price match if it goes on sale.

Two questions. They've kind of been thrown around but not answered.

    1. Since this new laptop is coming out, does that mean the 173XL FX will also be upgraded in the very near future?

    2. How will this thing match up with the 173XL FX head to head? Seems to be slightly worse CPU and HD, Slightly better price and video card?

gateway is going retail only, so no more 173 fx notebooks.
hence no upgrade and no need for a head to head match up.

I believe it does have blue tooth! Look at the "product views" on the support page. If you look closely at the pictures on the F6 key there's a blue tooth function. There doesn't look like there is a fingerprint reader though. I'm about to see if I can "chat" with gateway and ask when its coming for sure.

Yeah, exactly. The monitor's picture's caption states that the max resolution is 1440x900, which is the 6860's resolution.

I hope Bluetooth is there at least...

At the current level of technology (bluetooth PDA's, headphones, audio links, etc.) it just doesn't make sense that they wouldn't have bluetooth 2.0 A2DP. I have to assume it's in there, even though it's not stated.

    I hope I'm not wrong.

And to those complaining about the 7200RPM hard drive...

    Here's the 7811 HDD:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136197
    http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2008/GodzillaFX/1015088R/1015088Rivr3.shtml

    Here's the 6850 HDD:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148307&Tpk=ST9200420AS
    http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2008/TempestFX/5509106R/5509106Rsp2.shtml

I'm actually surprised how little marketing/copywriting gateway does. The 7811 has momentus tech for the seagate HDD. They mentioned nothing about it. Dell on the other hand won't let you forget about it.

    Hey guys,

Thought I might get a few of your opinions on what I should do about my matter at hand.

I just ordered a P-6860fx online on the 26th of July not realizing that there was soon going to be an updated version. I also did not know that it had just been on sale just recentley for like $1,099. I paid about 1,350 :(

Right now I'm going to Veterinary school in the carribean so I had the computer shipped to my fathers house in New York, it's already arrived there. My semester ends August 14th but I'll be staying on the island, my mother is coming to visit on the 20th and was going to bring my computer for me.

If the 7811 is indeed coming out on August 14th, Should I have my dad return my computer to bestbuy and then have them pick me up the new model when it comes in? First of all, would they A) be able to return my computer at our local store even though I bought it online and B) be able to return it for me without me there? Second of all if I do have them return my computer I would be riding on the fact that one of our local bestbuys would be getting the 7811 before my mother leaves, so really by the 19th.

My girlfriend here at school is also going home to the states to Texas, and would also be able to check her Bestbuy locations(3) for the 7811. She doesn't leave until the 29th.

I know im drawing this out and half of the people that started reading this thread already stopped and I thank anyone still with me  Basically I'm just wondering should I go ahead and return my computer and feel safe that I will be able to have my mother or girfriend bring me back a 7811???

If for some reason the bestbuy locations near my parents and my girlfriend dont have the 7811, one other option would be to buy it online if possible, mail it to her, and she would bring it back with her since she doesn't leave until the 29th.

    -Ashkon

OK, you ARE able to return an online BB.com purchase to any retail location. Your parents/GF may do so, as long as they have the receipt/proof of sale. Right now, tho, its hard to say whether or not the 7811 will be readily available for purchase right away. You may be taking a chance on quite a wait to get your laptop. But keeping your options open, such as being willing to purchase online again, makes it much easier.

    Thanks for the quick reply,

Yea I just figured out that I have until the 8th of August to return it. Then it would be up to chance to whether or not the 7811 actually come out on time. If it didn't happen to work out...my brother is coming to visit me in september, but god damn it hurts not having a computer right now. I think I should just take the chance and return it while I can...I mean it has to at least be out by september....

Last I checked, returning a laptop at Best Buy sometimes incurs a 15% charge too, you might want to get your girlfriend or parents to do it.*Sympathy points*

Well that is terribe news. :(

So that would mean I would have to pay 200 dollars more just to return it, then pay the additional ~150 for the new 7811fx so I would basically be paying about 1650 for it all together.

Curse you bestbuy. May you burn in hell.

I'm almost thinking it would be better to just drop 300 dollars on a new proccessor and have my gf bring that back then give best buy the satisfication.

I meant, getting your girlfriend or parents to do it might get you sympathy points with Best Buy. Since your laptop isn't defective, they have the right to levy the 15% restocking fee.
