i think he meant for 1800 starting price for what you get is weak which in a way it is compared to the 7811s 4gigs of ram vs 2 gigs and 100gig hd vs 200 .the major thing this has going for it is the chance to SLI it and the lightup keyboard whether thats worth 500 more to everyone is up for debate i suppose .

-
yes quad, but that was a given. we all know the 7811 is the best buy for 1249.99. (on sale)
edit: i was thinking more along the lines of sli-crossfire/montevina -
Super nice machine, however It looks to be a fingerprint magnet from HELL! Even moreso than the Gateways. This, of course, is irrelevant for most people and wouldn't steer me away if I had my mind set on it. I'd say go for it Quad, just don't touch it much.

1339.00 so it's looking better since we all nitpicking now...*LMAO*
now throw in all your own parts and you in it to win it! *LOL* -
Before i got my 7811 i had thought about grabbing it, but they werent shipping back then and only are starting to finally ship now. its probably going to be hard to get ahold of with the holiday season fast approaching . Either way if i sell mine ill have to toss it on craigslist i suppose and see what happens but im sure i can get the price im asking easily as its a little more then a month old and works perfect
and no dead pixels which is king in my book .
-
LOL but he did not get them for the base $1800. I said the base spec. is weak for the money. You even have to add $$$ if you want wifi. You can get one heck of a unit for $2000 ... but that is nothing new.
I'm not talking it down, just sayin' she ain't cheap.
Edit: Holy cow - five posts got in before I could comment. -
i know syn..but remember...im a 3 time gateway owner 6831/6860/7811 so im on your team regardless. and there is no contender in the 1249.99 catagory. so of course we are in agreement.
i was thinking more about the new platform and sli technology and was looking more in the 2k price range for a decent sli rig without going overboard.. you know...where i am now with the np9262. *LOL* cost 2850.00 -
off top: real quick...
any one experiencing down clocking when going on battery? 7811 only -
-
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
so how much are the 7811 in store right now since is on clearance is it gonna be like the 6862 , cheap as hell like that? around 1k or something
-
Think someone said 1300 ish on clearance which is actually more then when its on sale.
-
price depends soley on the store. if they are moving at 1449 the price wont drop. prices shouldnt change much for a month or so
-
Seems if you're in Virginia, a few stores in MD and central VA still have them (as of last night).
Maybe E-Wrecked's new "job" should be to ask Gateway why they're killing the laptop. *My* guess would be that they got a deal on the Centrino2 components from Intel, and now Intel's jacking up the price, and they can't afford to sell them at the price point anymore. -
Honestly.. I don't think they're killing it. I believe it's all speculation. A month ago, all stores didn't have any on order..and were out of stock, while the newer BIOS and revised DVD model was coming out. Quite possibly, the same is happening again. *shrugs* but, I can understand why they would discontinue..
-
-
you mean the RSS system? cause, it also reported nothing incoming last month..

I just finished calling one of the BB stores, the girl was really nice and she said they have some left. She offered to keep it aside for the night and I accepted. Then she asked information... bla bla bla. At the end I said, "I have a quick question, is this product being discontinued?" After a split second silence she said, "Just tell your brother to come to customer service". She said it twice and it felt like she dodged my question, unless she didn't hear me.
-
As long as we're speculating...
I went to Gateway's online site, and the P-7811s are no longer listed. The P series is now the P-172X, P-173X FX, and P173XL FX (who dreams this stuff up?). None are true performance machines by today's standards, so my speculation is that Acer Corporate has decided to offer real performance somewhere else in the line under one of their other brands, or exit the category altogether.
So our 7811s are a good news / bad news story: the good news is what a sweet deal it has been and the bad news is that it's over. I doubt our "support" from Gateway could get any worse now that the machine is an orphan because it was awful to non-existent before. Oh, well...
E, it was a d*mn** good thing you got that BIOS out of them when you did because it sure looks like it'd never see light of day otherwise. And I love my RAID!! -
no kiddin..they still don't have anything new support wise. Here is Gateways P-series comparison..it still has the 7811
Maybe bestbuy is going to make it an outlet item? That's quite possibly the reason they aren't shipping to stores, and it is still available for purchase online. -
Oh well it was a good run while it lasted and im happy to say my machine has been for the most part perfect and even more so because of the new bios and the raid option it opened up. even though i dont use it
its still nice to have that choice and it should have been there since day 1.

SplinteredVision Notebook Consultant
looks like they've taken it off the Gateway website to me
-
to a reply to a question as to where it was for $1357. it was at the fort wayne, IN BB. not much of a clearance IMO. not open box or return or anything. but with the $60 Geek squad optimization. what that means exactly i don't know. they would have had to open it and mess around with it obviously and i doubt they wipe it clean, prolly just delete programs. also, it might be a return too and they would then call a refurb 'geek squad optimized'. first BB guy was anxious to get rid of it. said there's only one left.
the total $1417 with suspicious tinkering around makes it worse for me then the full price. BB guy also said even if u exchange, they'll charge 15% re-stocking. hmmm. also said as i mentioned they are making way for new models from gateway. any insiders have any idea ?? -
I was looking into buying this Laptop in about 2 months. it had the specs and price i was looking for. Now its time to search for a new laptop with similar specs/ price which wont happen. I hope they will release a New 7811FX just with a different name or something.
-
It would make sense if they were planning to replace it with a watered down version of Packard Bell iPower GX Gaming Notebook.
That is keeping the Core 2 Duo P8400, dvd drive, 1 gig 9800m gts for the base version.
quad core and bluray, 1 gig 9800m gts in the high end fx's
If there is a new line up of FX's coming I can see them all including a 9800m gts 1gig across the line up. That would expain the quad support in the newer bios's as this bios would support fx's with the same mobo/chipsets. What do you guys think?? -
Not sure if this means anything.. but that Packard Bell someone found a lil while back, that uses the same chassis.. well, maybe I missed more info on that thread, but here you can find info about the MC..and the Gateway, Acer, Packard Bell press release. Acer is PB, is gateway. Yes? Anyhow, would make sense what you're saying.. but ya obviously never know with Gateway! -
I do hope the 7811FX will be replaced by another model as Gateway has been refreshing FX series relatively frequently so far. I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for one with a Blu-Ray drive.
-
you can get one in japan you know
-
Please Just Refresh With A Newer FX with 1GB 9800 and No Heat issues at all.
Upgrades would be nice but have no issue with it. Went to best buy today to see one and im applying for a job there so i can save up to buy one.. (Yes just for that, BB if your reading please dont end the love) -
Umm..love ended when you said you were becoming a BB employee. Unless you're a hot chick. If not, then please just don't be one of those tools who lies and misleads to sell me a mouse. Cause wireless, and bluetooth are not the same.
-
Well I picked up the last 7811FX (2888) at one of my local BBs @ clearance price of $1304 (not sure how they came up with that oddball price).
Odd thing is the other BB's around me still have more than a few 7811FXs left but when I asked the price they did not have them set at clearance like the other BB, i.e. still full retail. The one person at BBs also said the FX was still "active" in their computers so it wasn't like they couldn't get more according to her. She went on to say, it could be that that particular BB was no longer going to carry the item. It so freaking confusing dealing with Best Buy due to the lack of a real knowledge base with a majority of its employees. Its the electronics store equivilant of Animal House in tan pants. To be totally fair, calling multiple Gateway departments netted me nothing with regards to the future of the 7811FX.
Needless to say I bought the one as a way to hedge my bet that it's actually going the way of the dodo bird. I have been watching this laptop for some time, unfortunately not until after it came off sale and was hoping to wait until it went back on a really good sale before having to pull the trigger. But all this talk of bye bye 7811 got me to act. So now 14 days to see what shakes out with regards to the future of the "budget" FX.
Anyone have any suggestions to anything that comes close to this laptop for gaming for that same $1300 or so. -
-
My guess on the discontinuation of the 7811 is that gateway has very low margins on each one, and in result are not making much money from it. Look at the Toshiba x305-705 series...it cost more for less specs. The 7811 should be 1800 bucks, but sells 400 less.
-
dammn i'm missing all the fun stuff!
-
Best Buy made a few bucks on the FX... not alot, but not terrible. Of course margins on laptops suck anyways. Just a note though.. I still dont see a replacement for the FX in the inventory system at BBY.
-
probably going to be about a month if they are going to carry any more gaming models from gateway.
-
ohhhhh john? You get the new rig?!
-
yeah, it came this afternoon. been testing things out to get a feel of what they are suppose to really produce. ill be posting pics later in the 9800m gt over clock thread. it seems that the average single gpu is running about 10,300 in 3dmark06 and a dual is running abut 14,100. this is with no over clocking of anything using the stock driver off the cd.
-
dam.. thats sweet. How do you like it so far?
-
i like it allot. it's like working on a desktop. i put the mem/cpu & hd's in. was being a bit nosy looking around. it's deff a big one but it seems like it's sitting on a cooler already. the base where the feet sit are like 3 times higher than on my gateway for the fans to breath. fans for everything. except the hard drives...lol
it's about the same thickness as the toshiba, just not as curvey. fingerprint magnet as well..lol (but they put clear plastic on most of the finger print areas so your good till you take them off. -
nice.. take some pics
and convince me to upgrade! C'mon john! make me envy you.
tomorrow, that is..Im going to bed.
And CONGRATS! That is a wonderful machine -
thanks!
we shall see, gonna be hitting the bed soon my self..have a training course to go to tomorrow.
take care and will talk to ya later. -
Well, think of it this way, our laptops are now collector's items, and I'm sure stocks are being cleaned out because people sense they'll be able to resell them for higher than MSRP down the line.
-
At my local BB in nh, They have both p7811's as well as P6860's. Both models are still priced at full price. Accourding to BB a employee They haven't sold well in NH. I do hope that the Fx line continues, though it appears it won't. I can't really comment on the P7811, as I have the P6860. But, My experience with the Fx line has been exellent and the price is untouchable (comparitively speaking). If this is the end of the line for Gateway gaming laptops, I'll be sad to see it go.
Seanno -
Guys I really doubt they are discontinuing the entire FX line, Gateway has made and @sston of money off of these things and will continue to. Best Buy is who is losing all the money putting them on sale for $1249.99.
-
Has anyone (besides myself) actually tried to get Gateway to comment on the situation.
I was unsuccessfull with the two CS reps I spoke with, but then again I don't think I could have gotten them to correctly answer what day it was. -
-
BH this really doesn't have much to do with BB's stock dates and I do not believe I have ever mentioned it as a concern. At least for me, it has to do with....
1. Gateway has removed the 7811FX from their website as an available model.
2. Some BBs have placed the 7811FX on clearance.
3. Some BB employees have indicated that the 7811FX is no longer going to be available.
I would think that if BB had made a decission to no longer have Gateway produce this exclusive model, or if Gateway could no longer effectively produce it for BB; either way resulting in the 7811FX being discontinued that Gateway would know. All these pages of what we want to believe is confirmed or unconfirmed information, but most of it comes only from BB employees and I have not read much if anything from a Gateway source. I was just curious if anyone has attempted to get some info from the horse/manufactures mouth.
Best Buy discontinuing 7811FX?
