hmm.. Did you try using RMCLock? That's the only way I canWhat you overclockin with?

i was messing with the voltage, but mike said that is a trick or something. i dont know for sure, because i just started. but i did break 12k after the second try. with uping the voltage(speculation if the voltage stuff works) -
that's solid for one GPU.. those GT's aren't as easy as the GTS
but that 12k score isn't stressing the card at all. Give it some time, new drivers will allow for more flexibility.
and Mike thinks the card needs more voltage to OC higher.. I dont believe it. more voltage = more chance for failed GPUs. Didn't he have an issue with one of his going out? Or was that someone else? -
hard to say about the voltage thing...cards outside the main bios operate differently..... im trying to catch...itsofun he is at 12167 with an over clocked gtx. he seems to be the fastest one. so it's one of the scores you will shoot for when you get yours. (his and mines, but we on the same team...so it don't count..lol)

i need to figure out how to enable it while in sli mode. 10,400 stock one and 12k with over clocked gpu/ stock dual 14,100 over clocked doesn't even budge...LMAO! -
Magnus would be the one to ask.. from the 9800m vs 8800m forum. He had the 8800m GTX SLI OC'd quite well.

So should folks be sucking up the 7811's at clearance prices before they are all gone or are they/we better off waiting knowing that there is at least a fallback being the newly released ASUS sporting a downclocked version of the 9800GTS?
The risk being not getting a 7811 -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
If you can get a 7811 that doesnt have any flaws then you are getting a good system. Heck the 6860 and the 6831 are still great systems and not much for the price range can really touch the gateways (even 1 or 2 generations ago) -
Best Buy just moved the 7811 to "OUTLET ITEM" on the web site at $1359. Get 'em while they're eh, err, hot!
Seriously, if you aren't into hard-core gaming, but want/need discreet graphics, a decent cpu, the ability to RAID, a really purty WUXGA+ (1920x1200) 17" screen, then this thing is still cheaper than a comperable Lenovo Ideapad-Y730 (the comperable Y730 came out the day AFTER I bought my 7811) for things like mobile image or video editing, then this is a real good buy.
If you are into mobile hard core gaming on the cheap and you can live with raising the back of the laptop about 3/4 of an inch above the table and/or running RMClock in the background (if you encounter the TZS0 throttle issue), then the 7811 is still an excellent option.
Latest PCMag gave it 3.5 stars. They dinged it for weight and 64-bit Vista (apparently they don't know it also shipped with 32-bit Vista) -
Don't forget the awesome battery life!
-
I don't understand why they're discontinuing this while still selling the P-173xl. With the addition of RAID, the 7811 should be the 173's replacement is almost every way.
-
The plot thickens...you can't even purchase the P-173XL now.
-
Huh. I just added it to a cart without a problem.
-
The 7811FX isn't going anywhere for some time, and there is no solid evidence stating otherwise. Just a lot of speculation, and rumor mongering going on here.
-
I take it back then... thats weird.
-
Its in the Best Buy outlet now...to buy or to wait for its replacement? This is almost as bad as with the Toshiba P105-9722/9337/9339.

the asus isn't doing it for me. i'm used to the 17 inch screen. plus the 16:9 ratio on the asus makes it look quite smaller compared to the gateway. though the 9800 GS, a downlocked GTS, seems like a good idea, the lower rez. screen kills the deal for me.
still hunting for a store that has the p2888 model in stock. i don't know how much good the new model no. does though. the display models at BB get quite warm just sitting there. the keyboard, palm rests, vents etc. its like a space heater. -

So for 250 dollars you get a better hard drive and a (possibally) better video card. Seems like a pretty good deal -
i read this b4 about not utilising the 1gb vram, anyone care to post some references ?
as i remember that the new ati 4870 1gb (desktop)was hailed as the new king as soon as it appeared. but maybe because its bandwidth is much wider ?
do educate me on this one. -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Yeah i'm a bit fuzzy on the math of it myself, and was hoping you knew
From what i gather a 256bit card can only address 512mb worth of vram and still do its job correctly. If it starts utilizing more of the vram it has to stop accessing something else (i'm assuming shaders and what not)
This might be completely bullocks though and the cards work fine, its just everytime i see the 1gb cards mentioned this little fact is mentioned as well. -
oh here i guess i have to educate myself as always
its not our card and not a full article but... -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
wow... is there anything lower than completely unimpressive.
For the huge expense of going up to 1GB of vram you get .1 fps on average increase over a 512 card lol. Well that does settle the fact that a 256bit card cant utilize 1024mb of vram.
Though i did notice if you SLI 1gb cards and play at like 2600x1440 you will get a solid 1fps increase in crysis -
so whats the verdict can we put a quad in the 7811. i know bmw tried but it was not clear if it was a faulty cpu, heatsink or bios issue
-
as you said "not clear"
-
-
sorry dude cant take credit for the find i think it was tiptip ...but my prediction reflects the new model.
-
ok, so does anyone know if the p-7811fx will still be available at bb on black friday?
because i really want one (2888, obviously) and i won't have the cash for about a month, and i'm hoping that it might be on sale on black friday for like $1200 *drools*
do you think it will still be available in a month? will it be on sale? -
one dude saw it at BB for $1159 brand new. mine still had it for full price last week ($1450)
. but they adjust with lowest price. depends on the store.
-
well what about the availability?
should there still be some left by then? -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
You pretty much have to check, as each store will be different. The store around me still actually has a 6860 on display But except for just a few initially never really carried the 7811 (think they had like 4 total) -
Got 'em for $1449 at my local BB as of 4:49pm today
-
-
I don't know what BB policy is, but from what I've observed in our local store and on the forums, once they have stock, they seem to be stuck with it until it is sold. -
-
The 7811FX is now listed as a clearance item at your local stores. If you go online it is an outlet item. Different things with the same goal, to move all remaining stock.
As a clearance item each Best Buy store individually sets the price. So each Best Buy store can and most likely will have a different price. Case in point, I live in the Chicagoland area, calling a few stores I found that the price on the 7811 varies between $1014 and $1449. These are for new in box not open box items. Now once a store is out of stock at any price they will not "bring" one in, its just to move the remaining stock on hand. Yes I bought one yesterday for $1014.
Regarding price matching, typically clearance items are not price matched because of how each store has leway on setting price. You can still get it done but don't think it will be done without some level of pushback.
*EDIT - If you plan on calling stores it is sometimes prudent to actually ask the sales rep to check the actual tag they have on display for the price. This is because I had some just look online and quote me the "outlet" price not thier stores clearance price. Also as it was mentioned before some stores still don't have their 7811s on clearance as I believe like price the manager has some leway. Also if call a store and get a real nice sales rep they can check the computer and see what stock is left at nearby stores, they can also tell what that store is selling their 7811s for. This is how I found out which one had a few in box at $1014 yesterday. The guy actually was like....Store X has 2 still in stock and their price is $1014. Needless to say that store was my next call. (He even gave me the phone number) -
To add to that, my local BB has three in stock and I was told they have two more in-coming. They are still ticketed at $1449, but I was told they are indeed on clearance "in the system" and if I was interested we could talk price.
-
$1449, but you can just buy it in the store online with in store pick up for the outlet price. If I could find one for $1049 I'd so jump on it.
EDIT: $1449 in Oxnard, CA and $1313 in Thousand Oaks, CA. -
as i said before. my local BB had it for full price $1449 'sticker price'. told them the clearance price on BB.com and no problem in adjustment. so 1359 is the bare minimum u will pay regardless of sticker price IF u mention the online price. that happens with everything. if an item u wanna purchase is at a lower price at say circuit city, they'll match at the least. but it doesn't happen automatic. YOU have to mention it so they can check online or show them a flyer or something.
but the 7811 was on their own frikin' website for petes sake. how could the store not match the price.
edit: forgot to mention. got it for $1234at BB north av chicagoland. one guy on these boards managed to quote a price of $1149 of one store and get another store to honor that. some haggling was involved though. so...up to u.

I'm thinking about getting this laptop.
DO you think it is a good laptop for some moderate gaming (really just PES)?
I'm nervous about the overheating, but I would be able to to keep some air circulation under it.
Just want to see what you think.
thanks -
The 7811FX has been highly regarded as the best gaming laptop for the buck.
I think it is awesome, especially for the cost. If you can find one at a reduced price, jump all over it.
You can get a nice notebook cooler to help keep the temps down. This is the one I went with, and it's working great. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834998686 -
Thanks, and thanks also for link.
I've been reading through this forum and notice a lot of threads about the heat on this. I will probably play PES for a couple of hours at a time sometimes, do think the laptop will be ok for that? Maybe a cooler will be a wise investment for this one.
And it seems the laptop is being discontinued. That shouldn't be too much of a concern should it?
Overall I want a laptop that will be good for gaming but also reliable and stable. -
as i posted on other threads here i was lucky nuff to get it for $1015 by driving to anothe city. that particular BB was overstocked and BB has policy of dropping clearance price to next tier below when that happens. it was the sticker price in that store and was quoted to me by BB in orlando. so call around to BBs u might get lucky too. they said something like if they dont sell them then they sell them to some online reseller in the 600's. I thought this was crazy because i couldnt see how they could NOT sell them in store if they dropped them to next tier. suppy and demand. this is good time to buy it never hurts to ask manager to consider competeing with online only outlets even if thats against policy. i just got a swissgear 'yukon' for $10 less that way at officemax. Black friday coming too lots of deals.
-
I bought this model at an "out of box" sale at Best Buy for $900 on 12-06-2008. They had it marked at $1040, and I got them down to $980, left and came back a second time and they agreed to $900 + tax.
-
Hmmm out of box scares me with the 7811 return track record do some hard core testing on that unit before the 14 day return is up. If its a good one you'll be super happy though!!! and i'll be super jealous!!! i paid 1250$ for mine. (got it price matched first day it went on sale)
-
Where are you guys finding this laptop? I even called BB corporate number and they said it's no longer available.
-
Luck I guess.
