Yeah it does...I was wondering to possibly color reproduction/response times etc.
I recall the BE hardware had some problems with a AUO panels when dealing the with Samsung 226BW panels as noted by this article. http://www.behardware.com/articles/667-1/samsung-226bw-a-and-s-series-the-verdict.html
I was afraid something similar might be between the LG and AUO panels.

Do Not Know the Batch
But I do know that Best Buy now has an AUO 1440x900 screen for the 7805u. i thought they only had the LG in the 1440x900 size. I do notice Gateway likes sell there better stuff first to lure in people then go to a lower res... and to a lower brand name. clasic bait and switch.
Because of the way Vista and XP scale everything when increasing font size.... I prefer the 1440x900 screen over the higher res. screen because it is much better for people who don't have the best eyes at close distances. Maybe I should get some glasses then I would enjoy the higher res. one.
But when Microsoft gets there act together... the higher the resolution the better!!! -
Batch Number: I022307
Hardware ID: LPLA103
I have a resolution of 1440x900. Kinda bummed out about it. Its already open, so I'm pretty sure I'd have a hard time doing anything about exchanging for a different one.
Oh yea..my manf. date is 090107 -
AUO 1920 x 1200

Can anyone confirm me if there are any 1440x900 with batch# Hxxxxx? All i see for now, the Hxxxxxx's are 1900x1200. and the 1440x900 are Ixxxxxx
-
I just went back to my local bestbuys today to try and find another 1920x1200 model of the laptop. Unfortunately, no go. Both stores I visited had 1920's on display but 1440's in stock. I asked them to check before I bought it and they did. (unfortunately geek squad can't tell the difference between 1440 and 1920 so I had to show them how)
I didn't manage to snag the batch numbers though, sorry guys. -
ALL Hxxxxxx's are 1920;
SOME Ixxxxxx's are 1920; and
SOME Ixxxxxx's are 1440
It appears that ALL I batches under I007000 are 1920. -
Yeah, I think you're right so far. The minimum I can confirm is that every single I0XXXXX numbered batch I've seen is a 1440x900.
This is a sad day for me. All of the bestbuys in my area have displays of 1920 that they won't sell me, but have stock of 1440. I'm very very sad. -
I registered just so i could post a thank you. Thanks everyone for listing batch numbers!
I went to my local bestbuy and asked to see the two boxes they had in stock. Both were I015071. The store manager was helping me out because no one else was around. He looked at me kind of funny when i asked for the batch numbers. I tried to tell him there was a difference in the display resolution on early batches. Then he went on and on listing stuff off the box like there wasn't. After a while I gave up and wasn't going to argue with him. Then he told me one was faster than the other. I was shocked until he said the geek squad optimized it and for $35 more dollars it could be mine! I asked for the box that was not optimized but he kept reassuring me that the other one will play games faster and so forth. I told him i would just wipe it and do a clean install. Then he started going into a sales pitch about anti virus software. I said something about installing AVG and then he went on and on about how this other software is tons better. Aggravated i was about to say "LOOK MAN! IM JUST BUYING THE LAPTOP! I WILL CONFIGURE IT THE WAY I WANT AND INSTALL WHATEVER ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE I CHOOSE!". Maybe it was just me. I like to get in and get out. Long story short
Thanks!

* I do notice the little bit of light seeping in from the right bottom corner. It doesn't bother me and hardly noticeable. The display is super crisp and i like it!

batch# I014847
panel- AUO 1900x1200
Bought at Rego Park Best Buy in Queens NY. The associate I dealt with was incredibly accommodating. After explaining to him the situation, he took my list of batch #'s, thanks everyone, and checked all 11 that he had in stock and said they all had the same batch #, which wasn't on the list. I'm still not sure if this is false advertising, but I played that card and he agreed, with manager approval, to let me return it if for a full refund and no penalties if it didn't match the floor model. Instead I opened it at the Geek Squad counter myself, after purchasing, and found the panel/resolution information. It's not the LG, but it will do. Thanks again everyone. -

How about the build date from the bottom of the laptop? The keyboard box has a date code but I believe mine was different (probably pack date vs manufacture date)
-
The manufacture date is 081212. December 8th, 2008 I guess.
-
I think its year/month/day so it'd be December 12, 2008

The kid got his b-day present. He's thrilled but, for the record, the screen is 1440.

LOL!
Yeah, he actually likes the res on the 7805. He got used to 1920 but that's on a 24" display he "inherited" and connected to his desktop. He placed the 7805 near the 24 when he was doing the setup and they were pretty close, generally, in terms of the apparent size of the icons, et al.
Regardless, at the moment the display is virtually perfect; no detectable bleed, stuck pixels, blotching/ghosting, or any other anomaly. So far, so good. -

7805u from Springfield Mo today (Jan 7, 09)
1920x1200
Batch: I015224
AUO1088 (AUO)
Mfgr Date: Dec 9, 08 -
Hello,
By checking the serial numbers on the outside of the box I was able to find a 1920X1200 7805U yesterday at Best Buy.
138**** 1920
139**** 1440
Well after playing with it I'm finding the text and stuff is just to small. I tried changing the DPI to 120, I changed font size in firefox, zoomed in Office and its still just a pain in the butt. I will probably return this unit and get one with a 1440 display. This is a unit I use for work and I will spend 10 plus hours a day on it. I was killing my eye's after a few hours
This is my 3rd 17in laptop. The first one had a 1650x1050 display and the 2nd had a 1440x900 display. Both of those were fine.
Thanks

I asked it in another thread... I'm just curious why you guys that want the 1920 don't just purchase the P-7801u from Newegg? It is the 7805 but with the 1920 screen.

For awhile, the 7805u at Best Buy was selling for $1049.
Whether one got the 1440 or the 1920 at that price, it was a good deal. -
Bought one today.
Batch Number: I014738
Screen Model: AUO
Res: 1920 x 1200
I took visits to four area best buys. This one was the last batch left on the rack. It had some stupid Geek Squad optimization done to it so I had to pay an extra 39.99 for. I managed to talk the sales guy into booting it up for me. Overall, I am pretty happy. The KB is kinda weird but the screen and specs are real nice.

I had a rare experience at Best Buy last friday: I left without being completely annoyed at the staff. They guy was actually pretty cool. He booted up two of them to check and they both turned out to be AUOs at 1440x900. The display model was a LG at 1920x1200 so he agreed to sell me that one with a 5% discount. It was slightly dinged up and was missing the 'K' key from the keyboard. Which leads me to ask? Is there a way to order a single key for the 7805? Gateway seems to want me to send the whole thing in to replace it.

Batch: I027781 (caveat- since this was a floor model I'm not sure if he gave me the original box or not) -
Welcome aboard the 78805u train! Glad to hear you had a good experience with Best Buy.
As far as the missing key goes, I'm pretty sure the only way to fix that is to find someone who has a laptop for parts or buy a whole new keyboard. Their are several laptop parts suppliers on the net. Just do a search. Also try ebay.
Otherwise you can send it in and feel confident that it's fixed right by the manufacturer. What's a couple of weeks?
Either way, good luck with the new rig.

Hi there everyone, I have been reading this post before deciding wether to buy the laptop or not. I have made sure that the Best Buy I might buy the laptop from has the 1920x1200 display ones and the manufacturing date goes back in december so it should be an LG. What I wanted to ask to the owners of the 1920x1200 is can you change the desktop resolution to 1400x900? If not what is the next step lower in resolution? Please let me know

Mine is still running everything "right out of the box" and the answer is "no", at least not out of the box using Vista and the installed drivers.
There is a 1400 x 1060 and a 1360 x 768.
In a game, I can select 1400 x 900, though.
Correction: No I can't in Crysis.
I can on my desktop, but that's obviously different although on the desktop I have monitor specific drivers while on the 7805u it runs "generic pnp monitor" drivers. -
I just got one tonight.
Screen Type: LGD3901 1920x1200
Batch: I006584
Mfg. date: 11/16/08
I bought this a the Tinley Park, Il Best Buy and they still had one more left in anyone is in the area. -
If the serial numbers on the box actually report the resolution properly it would save everyone a lot of time. -
I think he meant
138**** = 1920
139**** = 1440
He just didn't put in the equal sign -
I know that, but is that 100% true? Can people confirm that all 138 serial numbers are 1920 etc?

That is the batch number and it definitely starts with M.
Still no word on the serial numbers though. Can anyone confirm the serial being a definitive screen resolution indicator? -
I am calling 3 best buys today in the northern california area. I've heard the emeryville has the 19200 version, but I'm calling Dublin, Pittsburg, and Fairfield today. Hopefully this helps some people.
I really don't care what company makes the screen, i'm really worried about the resolution I think.
So has can people start to post their serial numbers if possible? As soon as I get mine, I'll try to do all I can to help people find the good ones before they're all gone too. -
Just called Fairfield, CA location - I013045 .. any ideas?
Location in Pittsburg, CA has 2 that are open, that had that 40.00 geeksquad rip off but they said I can open it before I purchase it, since it's been opened already.
But any ideas on the I013045 batch ?? -
The following are, I believe, the closest we have on record here to your I013045 batch in Fairfield. Doesn't seem to be any clear pattern but, as you can see, that number is awfully close to I013063 (have to draw your own conclusion there).
I013063 ?? 1440
I013184 LG 1920
I013185 LG 1920
Just my opinion --> that Pittsburg deal doesn't sound too bad. At least you'll know *for certain* which screen they've got before you buy. -
Yeah except for that 40.00 they force you to pay to uninstall a couple of programs... haha.. I'll let you guys know how it goes and get my serial numbers on there if it is the correct one.
I just want the 1920 screen so bad so I can put a blue ray drive in it...
If I had no other choice than the 1440 screen, how would that perform with HD and blue ray ? -
Well I'm going to break down and pick 1 up tomm. or Monday. I'm having a lot of "fun" withe the store though. They wont tell me what serial #'s they have in stock (4 last I checked) or batch #s. Guess Its gonna be a crap shoot.
Also I was wondering exactly what kingkongmatt is. Any idea on how the 1440 would run with blue ray? -
Good question, and I suppose to know whether it makes that much difference to you you'd have to see them side by side.
However, on a 32" HD screen, one 720p and one 1080p, standing 6 or 8 feet away, it is very difficult to see a difference. So, I suspect that on these 17" monitors, if you are back a little, it may also be very difficult to see a difference.
On the other hand, we usually sit within 3 feet, and probably about 18" from our PC monitors, and that close you may be able to detect a difference. Most gamers can certainly see a difference between WUXGA and WSXGA when sitting normal gaming distance from the screen, but I'll bet it would be very difficult to tell the difference from about 6 feet away.
Of course, there is a possibility that I could be wrong. It has happened before.
-
Yeah, I forgot to figure in the fact that you usually can't tell the difference unless you hit about 50" inches or something like that in my opinion. We have a 720p tv and a 1080p tv.... But at the end of the day if they offer a 1920 and a 1440 for the same price, of course you want the better one. Gateway should have avoided all this and just stuck to the design. Unless they just wanted the first batch to look so good, and all the display models to look so good, so that people will see their friends owning these beauties, and then go get the cheaper screen model, and most consumers wouldn't notice the difference.
Haha ... Yeah not all the B.B I called today would give me batch numbers, I tried to be polite as possible and explain the situation but they think I'm trying to rip them off or something LOL.
Anyways I think everyones best bet at this point of time, if your batch number is not listed on this forum, is to try to find one that has that 40.00 geek squad service on it, that way you can have a reason to open it. You can say "since it's technically opened, i'd like to take a look at it"
I hope its the 1920 version !! -
Well, also, you could tell them you want one, and when they bring it to you, you can check the Serial Number on the box.
Or, you could ask the person going back to get one for you, to look for one that starts with "LXW430X0138".
Worth a try.
