I think thats what they think I'm doing. Gonna hoard all of the serial #s or something. lol I do have my list of batch #s all ready though. Hopefully I can get an associate with somewhat of a clue. I have taken a look at the display model which is 1920 BTW....I think I'd pass on it. Missing at least 3 keys. Looks like every kid in the city has been playing with it.
Thx John. Added that to the list to look for. About 2 weeks ago they had 6 in stock. Their down to four. Not selling real good here I guess. I'm hoping they still have older batches in stock.
BTW. If anyone has gotten a 1920 model aroung the Worcester MA area recently. I'd love to know where.![]()

Yeah dude, good luck. I just wish I did my research on this laptop about a month ago. Even 2 weeks they had the 7801 which is exactly the same with the 1920 for 1200 shipped on newegg. It's 1500 on the site now.
Now I have to go searching all the best buys near and far. LOL -
Thx. I feel like a terrorist. I explain to them the diff with the batches. They could care less. "give us your money...then more for service you dont want or need.....then more for a warranty that isnt needed".....Guess my local stol sucks? UGH......sorry guys....been a long road thats gonna get longer
-
I've never had a problem when I've gone into a local BB store and told them about the situation with the 7805's. Some have even heard of it already. I guess you just have a few bad apples that work at your local store and may be just a tad bit lazy. The walk to the stock location is waaay to far for them and then they'd have to actually read the box label! For god sakes! Do you think they pay these people? A major problem with our country right now is too many people don't actually want to work for their paycheck anymore.
rant over

That's what I used to make sure I found one with a 1920 screen. Then when I decided the 1920 was to small I used the serial number to get a 1440 screen when I exchanged it.
It works, and it a lot easier then have a list of batch numbers a mile long -

Called every Best Buy locally (six) and only one store had one in stock. I took the batch list in and checked the display model. It was a 1920 and serial # on bottom was something like LXW430X01386***** Manufacture date I think081110, so I'm presuming Nov. 11 08. Hard to see when locked down on table. They pulled one in stock and the batch # didn't match any of the listings. Unfortunately I didn't write it down as I was speaking with the customer service manager and someone else, possibly the manager of the store. I asked about the boxed one and if I could swap it out with the 1920 display model, and she said the boxed was certain to me a 1440 as they just received it. So I asked about buying the display and just swap the boxed one with it. Basically had to ask the manager standing by, since 2 other employees mentioned they can't sell the display model. The manager was cool about it, so they sold me the display. Unfortunately I wish I knew if the boxed one was a 1920 or 1440, but no biggie.
Few drawbacks though about this display model. The back is a little scratched/nicked on finish from the locking mechanism attached. A little magic marker might touch this up, we'll see. Fortunately no damage I noticed on front besides fingerprints.
Also the guy couldn't find the accessories or the box for the display model, so he took the accessories from the boxed one. Look like the power supply, and some other bag with something in it. Didn't get a closer look, I'll have to check website to see what comes with the laptop.
I asked about software and documentation, and he said it was all installed on the pc. My previous notebook is a gateway 64 3700, so he's most likely correct on this.
Also another somewhat a drawback, I got the 3 year warranty which was outrageously overpriced. I remember not spending $250 for 3 years when I bought my last Gateway there....maybe $60. Even the 3 year extended for my photo printer at Fry's was only $45. So I was shocked to hear a 3 year warranty is just about a quarter price of the laptop itself. But I got it anyways because it's a display model thats been on and used probably 12 hours a day. Plus it includes one battery replacement which I won't use since my notebooks have always been plugged in. If something happens in a few years, the CS manager said to bring it back and if not repairable, it will be swapped for a equal or better model. This is confirmed from my experience with a Garmin GPS when the battery died a year after purchase. They honored the full $450 purchase price to a newer unit. Even with the boxed new one, I would have bought the extended warranty considering I use a notebook every day compared to the desktop. No problems ever occured on my Gateway 64bit, with several hundred hours of usage. But this a workhorse with more heat involved, so the warranty might be worth it now. My Dell Inspiron CPU died after 1 year.
So consequently the display running at 1920 res. looks gorgeous and in my opinion worth it. No cutback on display model cost, The CS manager was making it sound like he was doing me a favor by keep telling me they don't sell displays models. Also reminding me that I got a 1920 and it being a rarity. haha...whatever, so I wasn't going to push for 5% off.
He's throwing in at no charge the complete drive wipe and reinstall with latest updates which I could have done but I let them check things out. Pick it up in 4 hours and I'll make sure latest bios and drivers are installed.
Also will be stopping off at Fry's for a laptop cooler. Many Best Buy reviewers mentioned heating issues and freezes. Good reviews on dropping temps 8c or more with a Zalman
http://shop3.frys.com/product/57362...yenNAwtLQ**.node3?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
The Targus I have on my other Gateway is junk. As another reviewer experienced, the cord is faulty and had to be taped to power it up. Fans much weaker compared to the Zalman. You get what you pay for. I have an Xbox360 backback I'm hoping this laptop will fit in.
After I pick it up I'll post confirmation on batch # and build date. -
congrats on the 1920, they will be getting rarer as time goes on for the P7805-u's. I went with a P9600 and added a 500 Gig 5400 drive for storage, just an awesome machine overall................
-
Hey guys please help me out!
There is only 4 (maybe less now) P-7805u at my local best buy so i want to save myself around $150 getting it there instead of the the p-7801u which i think definitely comes with the 1920X1200 WUXGA....I really hope to get that resolution so i plan on calling best buy to ask for the codes or batch numbers on the boxes and see if any of them are 1920x....
I am a little confused with all the numbers...so can someone tell me HOW i should ask? and HOW i know if it is 1920?
i know a lot of people posted their batch number but for AUG or LG
but can someone tell me between what numbers are the screens 1920x resolution?
Thanks! Really appreciate it -
Chances are the four are probably new shipments and 1440 screens. Check the resolution on the display model to see if its a 1920 and ask to buy that one, depending on how good shape it is. Mine has some scratches on the bottom of the lcd black casing but not easily seen. Miraculously no scratches on the lcd considering the ones on surrounding casing are deep. Otherwise just use batch numbers to try and get lucky with the four.
I'm having some issues that might be Vista 64 bit related though. I wish 32bit came installed, might just have to buy oem.
First issue was Call of Duty 5 would not give me a profile, or mission start. Just hangs after difficulty setting. Googled "call of duty 5 vista 64bit" and found a fix. Someone made a program the sets up a profile and inputs it in the game, allowing it to continue to starting screen. Apparently something to do with vista 64bit not recognizing hidden directories or files. While looking for this people have mentioned vista 64 has problems with secure rom games which is a big downer.
Second issue I'm currently having is all but one of my usb thumb drives are not recognized. The system is having trouble finding any drivers after I insert them. I've tried replugging, rebooting, reinstalling Gateway drivers, etc.
I'll try a complete restore if I have to and immediately plug a drive in. If it doesn't work, I'm junking vista 64 and dropping to 32.
Any problems installing 32bit on this machine with the 32bit 7800 series drivers from Gateway?
thanks
*** UPDATE ***
I repaired the USB issue by restoring before installing Roxio Ultimate 2009. I noticed the one usb flash drive that worked said Roxio drive in properties, so maybe this conflicted something. Also the other drives are all PNY attache 128mb-2g. Went to PNY and found a vista update (u3) that will fix issues, so this probably fixed it.
Played CoD 5 a bit..the 1920 res is just absolutely gorgeous and level of detail is insane. Well worth just spending the extra cash for higher res, especially considering for an Alienware the 1920x1200 is a +$300 option. The higher res works great with CS4 suite and digital photography. It's too bad the exclusive Best Buy 7805's couldn't just keep the 1920 screens and charge a little more...they would still sell as much as they do now. -
A couple stores I went to I had a hard time getting them to put the boxs with me standing right there. One time I had to tell them if they would not get the ladder thing and look, then I would. -
Just called the best buy's around me and they all have I054953.
Does anyone happen to have any information on batch number I054953? It seems like a recent batch which makes me worried that its gonna be 1440 by 900 =( -
AUO 1444=I049602
Note: this one also had a defective video card so avoid this batch if you see it. -
-
looks like I just found out mines bad as well, forget the batch number but its a auo1088 screen will post batch number after I get home from work if anyone wants
-
-
Hey dluft, which video driver are you using?
-
Latest Nvidia drivers from nvidia.com. I forget version, but just released few weeks ago and work good.
Just installed a second WD scorpio 320g drive today and hooked it up to a HDTV via hdmi to feed movies. This thing is just pure sweetness. Beware no screws with drive... first time every buying a retail boxed drive with no hardware. A notice exclaiming it was done intentional from WD and to have a "professional" install the drive. Haha..no thanks. It's a 5 minute setup and save the ripoff professional install fee. Borrowed 2 screws from primary drive as these screws are short but wide.
Frys has seagate 500g 5400 drives and WD 320g 7200 for $99. Best Buy has a 500g WD on sale for $125 but not sure if it's a scorpio. -
" if you want this sale i will get what i want." otherwise just ask for the store manager. -
Well I finally went and picked one up. Batch I057301 AUO6287 display (1440). A little disappointed but....Considering I was on an AMD 2400+ with 1 GB PC2700, Nvidia 6200 AGP...and an 80 GB HD.....I guess I can live with it.

Hey everyone, I just bought the P-7805u FX yesterday from Best Buy and I got the 1920x1200 model and it's been great! I felt that I needed to post my results here since everyone in the thread has helped me in finding the 1920x1200 version.
These specific posts helped in the batch numbers:

Because batch numbers were harder to go by (based on the above compilations, they could vary widely), I went by the serial number (S/N LXW.....) in trying to find the 1920 laptop. Supposedly S/N with LXW....138... had the 1920 version and those with S/N LXW....139... had the 1440 version, although it's not completely verified. Plus it was easier to explain to the Best Buy employees in what to look for on the box.
I checked out four Best Buys here in Southern California, and called two more. Of the display models, all but one were 1920x1200 displays, with S/N#s including the 138. The one 1440 display had the 139 serial number. Of the unopened boxes I could only initially find S/N LXW...139... models. They were 139 models with Batch I05XXXX or greater, so I assumed they were newer batches and thus 1440 models (could be wrong, but didn't want to chance it).
The one 138 model I found had a batch of I0009025, which seemed like it was a 1440 model based on the list above, but I was being hopeful since it was the only 138 I found. I bought it and indeed it was a 1440 and I was a bit disappointed. So I guess the S/N 138 vs 139 theory isn't completely accurate.
My sixth and last Best Buy and they had two 138 boxes: one had software pre-installed by the Geek Squad and was batch I008xxx, the other was new and unopened with Batch #I019130. I was 99% sure that the I008xxx model was a 1920, since all models < I009000-ish were 1920, but it cost more since it had software pre-installed, though Best Buy said they could uninstall it.
I gambled with the second 138 model with Batch I019130, since according to the above posts, there is a massive data gap from I016000-I021000, both of which were 1920 displays. I019130 is indeed a 1920x1200 model and I am extremely happy that my hours of searching and driving around paid off.

By the way, for any future buyers out there, the Best Buys I went to are: Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Montclair, Mira Loma. I called Chino Hills and they had four 139s in stock. Best Buy Glendora was where I got my prize. I'm not sure how long they will have the other 1920 display, but you have to ask them to uninstall whatever software they installed. -
Ok I'm going give everybody 2 solutions that wasn't a 1920-1200 screen. Was able to make best buy give me their display model. THink about it all best buy bloor models come from first batch which were 1920 x 1200. Even though the spec sheet says its a 1440 x 900 screen its still fraud to show a better one and call it the same model. Is it fair you get it home open the box and get a lesser product? No!! Now honestly this is gateways doing and most people at best buy are not aware of this issue but I bet you can fight with them over it and take the display model. If they even try saying didn't you read the spec sheet play the fraud card and say i didn't even read the specs i just looked at the screen and could tell the resolution. Say I work with computers every day of my life and can tell a resolution just by looking at it. Thats true most geeks can tell a resolution just by looking at it. The giveaway is how many icons fit on the screen.
Now for all of you that don't want to go this road or its to late. The floor model I ended up with had a bad usb controler. Yes my luck i guess its for being a horrible person. Usb devices would blue screen the machine while playing a game. I had no choice but to return it for the crappy one. THe geek squad was willing to send it out for repair but their repair center would not repair that model. Seriously. So what i did was upgrade the lcd myself. I was luck enough to find a nice lcd distributer within 100 miles of myself that was willing to help me. Most lcd suppliers on the net will only help get a replacement for the part # you are replacing. over at http://www.blisscomputers.net/servlet/StoreFront the tech was nice enough to help me in person. We opened up the latop and tried different wuxga screens till he found one that worked!!! He only charged me the $175 for the part but i think he was just doing me a favor. The lcd I ended up with was an lg made for a dell. He actually had to use a dremal and remove some bracket ment for dells but that seemed easy. I never thought to check the medel number for the screen becuase we closed it up in the store but it showes up in windows as hardware id LGDE400. As a note the screen i was actually driving down to try first was the aud wuxga screen that fits the 7811s. This screen just displayed white lines and no image. After seeing this I thought I was SOL but that lg screen worked. Maybe its becuase my original screen was the LP171WP4 or I just happened to test a defective AUO screen first. Hope this helps some people. Replacing your own lcd is as easy as 123. On our laptops you just remove the rubber pieces going around the lcd and remove the screws then pop off the plastic trim. This is the hardest part so you don't snap it. You do not need to take the entire laptop apart. after this the rest is common sense. Laptop repair shops have been ripping people off for years when it comes to replacing an lcd. THe part is cheap and it can be done in 10 minutes if you know what your doing. Best of luck. Sorry for spelling no time to read it.
PS if you call them and ask for the tech maybe he will remember me and know what screen worked. Tell him you read on a forum that he helped somebody in person with a gateway gaming laptop upgrade the screen. -
Well mines going back anyways. Runs way too hot just idling. How can I explain that to them? It idles at close to 60....Problems waiting to happen. I love the laptop (wish I had the high res) but Im not gonna wait for the probs to start because of bad engineers (buildeers)

Wow, lucky for you. I wish I saw this post earlier >_<
Anyway, I went to 3 Orange County bestbuys two days ago to pick one up for my gf. Due to extenuating circumstances (she had a flight first thing yesterday morning), I had to buy it right away.
At Irvine, the 138 serial display model had 1900 x 1200, which is what I ended up buying later that day. I paid full retail for a the display model :[ The early morning manager was a ing who didn't believe me that the resolutions were different. He kept arguing with me that I was looking for an older model (7501?). The tard opened up a new box, and I showed him the tier resolution. I hope his 35 year old works a ty job like that the rest of his life.
At both Tustin locations, they had only 139 boxes, and both employees at both locations were helpful.
I did want to note that at both Tustin locations, the serials of both display models were x138 yet only had 1440x900 resolutions, so having 138 might not guarantee the better display.

Well I'm trying to jump on the bandwagon and get in on this. So far no luck. I did find a 1920x1200 but it's a display model with nothing but the battery.
There are 3 on the shelf but they all have a batch number that's not on the list: I056608
My guess is that they're all 1440x900s.
Anyone know which screen this one is?...
Thanks -
Apparently no one knows......?

Picked up a 7805u with a 1920 x 1200 screen today at the Brentwood BB in St. Louis, MO. It was a total shot in the dark but my build date is 12/12/08 and the batch ID is I054407. They had a couple left, but I didn't really know how well the batch ID identifying thing was ironed out. My S/N is LXW..138..so I guess it follows in line with the rest of everyone's findings. I guess I'm pretty lucky!!
-
Congrats and thanks for reporting!
Since we're trying to keep score, did you get an LG or an AUO panel? -
Where on the box is the S# located?
-
-
I thought it did appear on the box. On one side there is a sticker with three bar codes. The top number is the UPC bar code, the bottom number is the SNID, and the middle number (I believe) contains the serial number.
That middle number (alphanumeric) starts with LXW430X and the last 22 characters is the serial number. -
Yes, that long LXW430X...etc. number is the Serial Number and it is on the white sticker on one side of the box.
The batch number is on a white and yellow (on my box) sticker on the front of the box or maybe it is the back, since they are both pretty much the same image of the FX notebook. -
LG Screen 1920x1200
Batch #: I075018
Manufactured Date: 12 March 2009 Purchased 18 March 2009
Editted: My ram was labeled with a gateway sticker of 12 March 2009. I'm beginning to think that the batch number means ship date: I = 2009, H = 2008, next three digits are julian days....so mine was shipped on Julian day 075 = I (2009) 075 (16 March). May not be much but might be something. -
-
Can't be merely coincidental that they switched letters (from H to I) immediately after hitting the number 366 and then started the first 3 numbers of the "I" batches with "002". -
2 laptops available at an AZ Best Buy with I06792. I'm assuming they will be the 1440 screen because they are such a late batch number?
-
I just bought one that has 1920x1200 with batch# I071988 & sn had 139. Based on what Razor found I took a chance and it worked out.

Does anybody know if any of the following batch numbers are LG 1920x1200:

I064580, S/N: L...139....
I075740, S/N: L...139....
I076764, S/N: L...139....

All of these are in Detroit area.. -
Crazy, still shipping these with 1920 panels.

Just wondering if there have been any updates on this. I've looked around and found a few I06s, an I072856, and a few I08s.
I'm tempted by the I07 given that 2 people (in this thread) have gotten 1920s in the I07 range but I don't know if that's enough data to go by.
Any tips/advice? (OR MORE BATCH NUMBERS IN I07 RANGE? =D) -
Don't buy it. Tigerdirect.com is having a 12% Windows Live Cashback program so you can get the 7801u cheaper than the 7805u from Best Buy. I just got mine for $1148.

Where, on TigerDirect's web site can I find this 12% discount?

I went to Best Buy yesterday and they told me that there were no more p-7805u's with high res to be found in the area around Richmond. I'd probably stick with a p-7801u.
-
I would say they are shipping with the 1920x1200 resolution monitors again. Thanks to the info on this forum, I went to a Best Buy in Lakewood (Denver metro area) and picked one up. Batch I100339 (that's Apr 10 in Julian dates) and got a 1920x1200 LGD3901 panel.
I'm extremely pleased, and registered just so I could add it to the info for anyone getting told by Best Buy employees that they won't have any with the 1920x1200 screens anymore.
Oh, I purchased today and S/N contains: LXW...13910B. I'd seen some 13906 models at another store but didn't want to risk it. The 13908 they had was a 1440x900, but I didn't get the batch numbers because I hadn't seen this site yet. I'd also had another store refuse to check.
