Hmm, Just got mine today, LXW...13910B ... I got the 1440X900.. how unlucky, but for some reason, the text are so small and crisp and clear. Icons are so small. But I guess in a later date, Ill just buy a WUXGA on ebay..
and how do you check if its an LG or AUO?

Just wanted to let you guys know I did get my gateway p7805u @ 1920x1200 a couple of months ago. I went to a few Best Buys and the people there knew of the WUXGA shipments. The first 2 Best Buys didn't have it, and neither did the third. I was lucky though that I noticed that the one on DISPLAY was a 1920x1200 and managed to talk the guy working there into replacing that one with one that was just returned by an agry 1400x900 purchaser
. I am extremely pleased with this machine. With some tweaking and with the right drivers and settings, and a little bit of overclocking, I can run GTA IV at 1920x1200 all high settings @ 30 fps, which is simply amazing for any laptop today. Good luck to anyone looking for the 1920x1200, the extra definition is DEFINETLY worth it. When i reduce the resolution to 1400x900 on my desktop or in my games it's an eyesore for me now :_).

Hi all. Complete n00b here, so bear with me.. In the original post of this thread, it said this thread would help to identify which screen you've got without opening the box, then it tells you to check via Control Panel?
I'm looking at a specific, sealed box, item on Ebay and need to know where to tell the seller to look, to give me the batch numbers, so I can see if it's even close to low enough to have the better resolution. I realize I must be missing something extremely obvious here, but please help just the same! I'm in need of a good gaming laptop to take to the hospital/rehab with me and this one seems to be the ticket, but I REALLY want to get one with the higher res screen! As always, thanks in advance.
-
The Batch number and Serial numbers are on stickers on the box, Tinytacohead.
The "LXW...." number is on a sticker on the side, and the batch number is on a sticker on the front/back.
Oh, and welcome to the board. -
EDIT - somebody just used buy-it-now, lol -
Just wanted to add another Batch Number.
Got in in Round Rock (North of Austin TX) and the batch numbers were very high on the few ones that was left in the store..
they were all in the I09****
Except for one, with a blue label (instead of the green)
I got it , thinking it would probably NOT be the higher res-version as all the posts I've found have been lower batch numbers..- there's not that many reports of the high batch numbers like mine..
I opened this bad boy up anyway because I had decided I wanted it even if its a lower res screen.. It's just a hassle and a a pain in the a... to try to fight it- restock fee (Bestbuy) etc.
Boy was I happilly surprised--1920 x 1200 !!!! (LG screen-YES!!!)
Awesome, because I DO a lot of graphical work- Photoshop/Painter
Batch:I083133
Thanks everyone for trying to figure it out, hope this helps -
I bought my 7805 from the same best buy today, and guess what?
It's got the WUXGA -
Anyways, As I stated above yesterday, I bought one from Bestbuy and I did get a WXGA one But all night I cant really take it hw pissed I was when I got the WXGA one with the BATCH number I100... and 13910B, This morning I did not hesitated to go back to bestbuy and return it, I made a Huuuge excuse and they bought my story, This time its from MISSION VALLEY SAN DIEGO area. I explained my concerns about the laptop and voila, the geek squad manager told me to go with him and we'll look for the one I was looking for, THE HIGH RES one even tho he had no idea and keep insisting that they don't have that anymore. First, we opened a 13910B again, they had alot in stock like more than 18. So, the deal was, theyre gonna have to open it and check everything was fine so I can leave with no problems and to be happy with my purchase. Back to opening the box, we booted it up, and its a WXGA one, so I was pissed, so then we opened 3 more 13910B's all in the same batch, THE STICKER IS COLOR BLUE. ALL OF THEM are WXGA's . SO, after those 5 boxes, he finally told me I can only open 2 more boxes after this because we can't just keep opening boxes. So then I looked around the cages, and they were looking at me weird like is this guy caring about the serial numbers, and I saw 5 optimized gateway boxes they look pretty old I look thru all the serial number all of them are LXW.....13909B and all same batch with BATCH I083968. ALL OF THEM ARE OPTIMIZED, I asked them, " why are they optimized already? manager answers with, so when some1 buys one and want them optimized, they just hand them those boxes, with additional fee of 40$$ no tax. So I was like can we open them? atleast two? I told them Ill pay extra 40$ if one of them is the high resolution. So we went back again ath the geek squad placve and started opening them up, right when we turned on the very first one optimed one, I saw the VISTA LOGO SO SMALL and I was liek THIS IS IT! and then to make sure I went on display settings and it was the WXUGA HIGH RES one. The other geek squad agent turned on the other one and it was the same res also the WUXGA. I was really determined to get the High resolution one. So basically im assuming lower BATCH numbers will lead to High resolution ones. Mine is the LXW....13909B I083968
Anyone that is in San diego and wants to get the High resolution ones, Mission Valley has 4 more of them high resolution ones.
High resolution does really make a big difference, and 1 more thing, I got the LG panel. :] -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Does anyone know which screen to get from Ebay or Newegg or the like to install so i can have the 1920x1200? There are several on eBay but not sure if they'll fit/work. Some for the 6831, some for the 7811. Both should fit but would like some assurance.
-
Those will fit, before i returned my wxga, i played with it and took off the lcd. Its the samething like the picture of the lcd on ebay. Its ao easy to take em off but make sure you use like a credit card or something similar to pry the bezel covering the lcd and be carefull with it.
I was amaze how we can upgrade to blueray and to a faster processor. So many things you can so with this gateway. I will upgrade my cpu to a P9600. -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Thanks k9. I was looking at that but there were a few that were cheaper and I wasn't sure if any of those would fit. Guess I'll just have to go with the more expensive one.
-
I just got home and opend mine and it is a 1920X1200 display!!! Very Excited! The batch number is I075741
Hope that helps someone out.
(Also is there a reason why the fan on this thing pulsates? It does not stay on constant?) -
I've got a 1920x1200 LG at home, I am currently at work on my older laptop. I bought mine early february, last one I could find in my area. Was the one on display(that isn't normally sold to customers). I bargained with the guy working there and he replaced that one with a 1400x900 that was just returned. I even got a lower price on it since it was considered refurbrished ($1024 plus tax). I'll see if I can provide my batch number once I get home.
-
Andros? You play guildwars?
-
I'm sure it's stated in this thread, or elsewhere, but how do the systems with a 1920x1200 screen hold up, gaming wise, in games like Crysis or Grid, with everything cranked, 16xAA etc? Wondering if I'd rather have the lower res, for better performance.
-
-
Looks excellent in 1900x1200 -
-
You guys know that with this laptop with WXGA, it will play everything you can name of high like a biiiach. I play crysis warhead high-veryhigh with 1440x900 and crispy licious over wuxga that you have to turn down and look blurry ish. Just my 2 cents.
-
-
Can someone tell me if these two Gateway 7805u has the 1920x1200 res?
1. LXW430X013910B batch number: I098295
2. LXW430X013910B batch number: I096271 -
-
THIS IS THE MOMENT OF TRUTH, LOW BATCH #'S YOU WILL LIKELY WILL GET THE WUXGA, THESE ARE from I06#### - I08###9 \\ ANYTHING THAT WILL START FROM I09####-I10#### YOU WILL LESS ALOT LESS LIKELY TO HAVE THE WUXGA. But seriously, Big Mike is telling the truth and thats what I believe also. Ask any hardcore or maybe some semi gamer, they will knoe why this rig will be better suited with WXGA 1440X900.
-
When I was sorting all the bestbuy here in San Diego, all the 139 09's that I opened in a row, they were all WUXGA.

Anyone purchase any with I09XXX batches with 1920 res?
-
-
Yes, I wanted any new purchases. Looking at my chances on the two systems with the I09XXX batches. Please post 1440 resolutions as well. Thanks.
-
Just wanted to add that:
I084004 and I061669 both were the 1440 x 900 despite my hopes of them being otherwise.
On a side note I'm utterly disgusted with my local Best Buy in Henderson, NV. Everyone that I spoke to looked at me like an idiot especially the Geek Squad guy at the counter as the sales guy lugged over the I084004 to check the resolution for me after seeing for himself the conflicting specs. Mr Geek Squad gave me the 'you mean to tell me that a company would ship the same model with different specs blah blah blah, insert condescending tone here' He soon changed his tune as he saw for himself that the brand new machine was indeed 1440 x 900.
Then as the sales guy (who I might add was extremely nice and helpful on seeing that I wasn't completely moronic in what I was saying) was going to try another batch number that the geek squad had 'optimized', a young supervisor complete with ear piece and self important attitude, scolded the sales guy for wasting his time when the specs said that the laptop was infact meant to be 1440 x 900 and that anything else was not their responsibility. This being right in front of me, at which point I got involved and quite truthfully made him aware that the display model was 1900 x 1200 and I only realized that the 1440 x 900 resolution is standard by going back home to check on the specs before I bought it as it seemed a steal and that if I had bought the machine on the premise of it being 1900 x 1200 we wouldnt be debating this we would be unwrapping my hands from around his neck.
Another supervisor was then explaining to his colleagues aloud so as I could hear, how Gateway had fitted earlier machines with a different 'graphics chip' and that was the only difference. I then recommended he stick to selling Guitar Hero and stop making himself look like an idiot.
I think I was most upset that they seemed to think I wanted something out of this out of the ordinary, I wanted to buy this laptop from them at full price, I just wanted the spec they were displaying. This was alien to them, as was the fact that despite the sticker saying it was 1440 x 900 that the display machine was 1900 x 1200 and that just because a sticker says otherwise doesn't make it ok to advertise it as such.
You could put that sticker on a lemon, it doesn't make it a Gateway laptop.
Anyways, apologies for the rant, I really wanted the 1900 x 1200 screen and I'm aware of another model with only the 512mb 9800m GTS which kind of defeats the object as the 1GB really only makes a difference when viewing at larger resolutions so it's a vicious cycle.
I may settle for the 1440 x 900, just think I've been spoiled by the original. The display machine was busted up, they would not reset to factory default even though it had a recurring graphical error that would pop up every five minutes, so buying the display for list price was not going to happen.
Hope you all have better luck, they look like great machines and had swayed me to replace my aged borrowed single core athlon with 1gb ram and the venerable X800 Pro.
Oh the dilemna. -
You might try some other BB stores, several people here got good condition display models for 10% off when the 1920x1200s ran dry by pointing out how it was misleading to customers that might look at it, buy one, and realize they didn't get what they saw on the display model.
-
LOL! This thread just keeps getting funnier and funnier because of the great extent people are going to get 1920x1200 screens. With all this time invested into searching for this laptop, it would be cheaper and save so many hours to buy a 7801u. The punch line is that no one is selling the 7801u anymore. XD
-
I mean if it was 1680 x 1050 I'd snap one up in a heartbeat but 1440 x 900 on such a large screen just seems wrong.
I have been looking for a 7801u everywhere but can't find one.
May just end up going to a 15.4" 1680 x 1050 machine if I can find one that is comparable. -
The 7805u's with 1920 x 1200 are still out there.
I saw one on display at a Best Buy in Sarasota, Florida earlier today.
It is worth it to continue to look, at least as long as the 7801u's aren't available. -
Seriously, if the hype and choices arw only 1680x1050 and 1920x1200, and not 1440x900, id pick the wsxga(1680x1050) with a heartbeat. It would be a great buy also. This is why i sold mine in craigslist and just added a few bucks and boght msi GT725 074 with hd4850 and wsxga. More juice and looks sweet.
-
I totally agree mjfrozenchips. 1680 x 1050 would be perfect. I have been looking at the MSI GT725 as well. My only concern is that I've heard they bleed horribly at the bottom of the screen against dark backgrounds. Are you pleased with it?
It is still a shame though, I did like the 7805u, just not sure I'd get used to the 1440x900. Will see. -
After a month of mulling over buying a laptop, I finally went to Best Buy last night with the intent on buying a 7805u and hoping I could find a 1920. The display model was a 1440, so I asked about finding a 1920. One employee knew what I was talking about because apparently someone came looking for one before. They had a 1920 display before but someone traded for it. She was fairly certain the ones they had in stock were 1440 also. I bought one anyways and got it home to find out its a 1920. The batch number is I112460.
This was at the Best Buy in Boynton Beach, FL. They had about 6 more 7805u's in stock but I dont know if they were all the same batch. -
Some of the screens have bleeding on them, im guessing some people have, some people do not. Its a great buy i tell you. For gateway, 1440x900 is notbad at all. I had both wuxga and wxga. The wuxga is nice but, it stresss the card too much. That ls why gateway put wxga's on the 7805 and 7807 and 7808's to fully maximize the full potential of the 9800M GTS as a desktop replacement. Trusr me, i was one of those people who got crazy over an wuxga and got sad about having wxga, in the end if i ever settled on a 7805, i would get wxga just because it is more reasonable.
1920x1200 is overkill, when i gamed on it, i find myself putting the ress lower just to get more frames and to turn up more eye candy, heck thats why theres 9800M gts for, to beautify my games and get good acceptable
frame rates. But there was a drawback for putting it down, it gets blurry
and look sluggish. But when i gamed on 1440x900, it was a bazaar
experience, everything turned up and looking crisp and sharp no need to lower the res just for that.
My conclusion is, 1440x900 shines on games over 1920x1200, and will totally have legs over 1920x1200 for future games and have very acceptable pleasuring needs for a gamers dream rig. -
I just picked up my 7805u from my local BB today. Batch is I085021; Serial is 39xxxx. Is it pretty safe to assume I have the WXGA?
The display model was 1440 and I haven't played with a 1920 yet.
Not sure what I want to do. I'm still debating whether or not it's that BIG of a deal. -
Below are the batch numbers for which we have reports in the I085021 range:
I083133 ?? 1920
I083968 LG 1920
I084004 ?? 1440
I093525 LG 1920
So, assume nothing!Bottom line is you just can't be 100% certain you have a 1440 or 1920 unless you either (a) fire up the laptop and check visually or (b) buy a unit with the exact same batch number that has the res you want.
-
Hey, Espelir -
Welcome to the board.
Gamers? Other than "gotta have it, gotta play it", there isn't much that Gamers may agree on. Some may drool over the 1920 screen even though the system may not run some games at the highest settings while others couldn't be happier since their 1440 screen allows them to max out all of the settings with a FPS rate higher than their screen refresh rate.
There is nothing wrong with your thought process if you prefer either screen, in my opinion. -
Thanks for the welcome. I'm now posting on my 7805u at 1440 resolution, so mark that batch ID as that.
I made the purchase hoping for a 1920. The guys at BB weren't the easiest to work with, so I just picked up a box and thought I'd try my luck. Blu-ray upgrade was definately something I considered in the near future. I suppose I'll have to reconsider. Now I'm considering "upgrading" my lcd with something from ebay, but with such a new purchase and voiding warranty.. not sure how that will play out. Decisions decisions. -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
I run everything I have on MAX-Cod4, Tiger Woods 08, Madden 08, NBA 08, Guitar Hero 3, CnC3, Red Alert 3(Little Slow). But Command and Conquer Generals:Zero Hour is horribly slow. Why? The game doesn't require much and the GPU temps never get above 55C? All I can figure is that the game doesn't utilize the dual core system efficiently. Any thoughts? Tried lowering all settings to low and 800x600 res. Wierd............

Yes, welcome Espelir (where were my manners before?). Anyway, hope you're enjoying your 7805.

Just act like theres a broken piece or something and switch it out. Thats what my sister did on her case.
