because they are different stages of an es "engineering sample" cpu
best to try to get one q samples. they seem to be pretty reliable.

Once again, you are not reading your own links. Here is what it says, plain as day:

    Not 8800m series.

I have the P-6831fx and was wondering if this cpu is supported:

    Intel Core2Duo Mobile P9500 QDXD 2.53GHz 6MB L2 1066MHz FSB Version

and if this cpu was a good choice for this laptop.

    Thanks

I think the bus speed is limited to 800MHZ on the 6831. If that's the case, the X9000 is the best processor available.

The 8800M uses the G92M chip, read the "Updates" section.

    Here is what it says:

First of all, Inquirer is the ONLY source for that info.... *ahem* Just because Charlie has it out for Nvidia does not make our video cards defective.

Second, there is absolutely NO proof other than the Inq, all it says is that it is a possibility. There has been almost no reports of failed video cards though with G92M's. Please, there is no more need for you to try and prove this, because it's NOT a fact.

Uhh, no. I did some of the research for you, and you're ignoring it. If you don't think it's true, read the postings yourself and do your own research. The suspicion has been reported by many people in this forum and Nvidia has not been forthcomming with any confirmation.

At this point I don't care if your GPU spontaniously combusts, do whatever you want, I'm through with you -- you could at least have said thanks for links.

Yes, I do appreciate the work you put into it. But unfortunately 99% of the links said nothing of the 8800m series, except for the Inquirer article. Other articles only link back to that one article. And like everyone knows, the writer of that article is doing his bestest to taint Nvidia.

If my GPU blows up, I'll message you saying I should have listened and how big an idiot I am. But for the information you've shown me, sorry, I don't buy it.

Sorry for a reply to such an old thread. I have been using this guide to upgrade my 6831fx with a t9300 and all went smooth up until I unlocked the cpu and was trying to remove it. No joy. I did not try to force it. I ended up just putting it back together after cleaning off the old compound and applying some new ones. I left the thermal pad for the chipset. Is the p socket a zero force socket on this board. If so are there any tricks to unlocking the cpu. I see the bracket release a bit put the processor remains snug after turning the flathead lock. Anyone else have this problem.

    Thanks,

    Clevonewb

I'm trying to go off memory, as it's been more than a few months since I changed my CPU, but from looking at that picture, since it also has instructions, you just turn that screw next to the CPU 180 degrees. That is the locking mechanism.

I wouldn't "force" it as in prying it out with a screwdriver, but it is pushed down rather tight, so I wouldn't be afraid to wiggle it a bit to try and get it out. Usually just prying it out with a fingernail should do the trick.

Hehe I am a newb. I went back RTFM again and gave it another go and got it. I was just being too gentle with the screw. Gave it a little more turn and wahhlaaah. =) Thanks for the guide and the reply. Gang. My first laptop upgrade complete. =) Next upgrade is to find a cheap 9800m gts for my M570ru.

well, I'm still using my T9300 that I upgraded to last year, runs great. Haven't had any experience with the 9700 though. Still love this laptop, probably my fav laptop I've ever had. Still playing games to my hearts content, except for Crysis of course.

ewiz.com is having a good deal on T9500's
Just ordered a new OEM CPU for $239 w/Free shipping. From now till 7/17/09 you can use CPUSALE20 to get an additional $20 bucks off, so all in all, $219 without the hassel of ebay... Just thought I'd share in case anyone was waiting to upgrade like I have been.

Now here's the kicker... ewiz.com is also selling new OEM T9300's for 237 with the same $20 rebate... making it 217.

I decided to fork over the extra 2 bucks :)

The T9500 is a good choice..I myself was looking out for this..in fact this particular item from the seller..but decided against it since its an engineering sample (ES) try an OEM version.

dont brush off ES cpus, some of the best deals are from ES chips. i had a X7800 ES cpu on my 6831 but sold it cuz it got too hot, x7800 at 3.0 get very hot anyways.

The reason I want to upgrade my cpu is for WoW. I've got the 6860 factory. Its hard to be in a 25 man raid and even have the video effects i need on, i get like 10-15fps and when all the spells are going off it drops to like 2-5. But I don't know if a cpu upgrade will help. When playing core2 jumps between 70-100 but average is like 85% and the other one is like 30-40%. I've read that wow is cpu intensive but if my cpu isn't even at 100% all the time. I though at least one core should be maxed out if i was getting bad fps, would it be the video card that's slowing me down or what?

i am not sure if WOW can even use both cores, i never have heard if it can or cant, but even a cheap upgrade to a T8300 would greatly benefit your laptop. going from a 1.83 to 2.4 with newer tech you will notice it in any game.

nervous about what, just install it and be happy about it. watch the temp go down with it too. you will not even know the cpu fan is on most of the time. be sure to install some paste on it too.

It's easy to get the CPU out. And as long as you put the CPU in correctly, which is easy because there is an arrow in one corner and you line it up with the other arrow... it should slip right in.

Why has your computer been overheating though? That's not good... do you have it raised up in the back? These Gateway's are pretty good with heat, so you shouldn't be having a problem really.

time to make sure you clean out the cpu vents, and gpu vent too. buy a can of air for the gpu vent if you dont want to take your laptop apart. dont just blow hard into the vents, that air from your mouth is full of moisture and mouth juice. its like your spitting into your laptop. its very bad for the components inside.

I really want to upgrade my cpu but it seems really expensive. Seems like it would be better to just save the money for a new computer(desktop) down the road with way better parts all around. Wheres the best one that I can buy with a good price/performance ratio? Ebay hardly has any up for bid, whats a good price for the t8300 t9300 and t9500? And which ones would you buy?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I just want to confirm I'm getting the right thing before I spend the money. I have a 6860FX. CPU-Z says I have a Socket P (478). Im looking at upgrading to this T9500 and it's my understanding that this chip should work but it says it's Socket: Micro-FCPGA.
Long story short will this work in my laptop? Thanks.

Should work, it's the T9300 with 100mhz more... but it's 800 Mhz FSB so it should work.
