dont worry, it will be worth your wait. I agree BB is giving you the run-around. They arent the only retailers playing games with preorder/backorders...

I just don't know if this is such a bargain right now. I think earlier this year was the best bargain on the P-78xx and most notably the P-7805u($1049 in March), but with the advent of quad cores and the new i7 chips being stuck in laptops I think I will be waiting for a deal on one of those. I mean you can get the P-7805u for around $800 on the net now( http://www.nextag.com/p7805u/stores-html?nxtg=14350a28050e-FA1DBC425181F7ED), thats a deal. Use the money saved and upgrade the CPU. Just my 2 cents
-
Those are both refurbs though. Meaning a part broke and was replaced but all the other parts are still used condition so may wear faster then a new one. Plus slightly slower cpu so yeah 800 is a nice price but I think you get what you pay for to some extent here.
-
Same price as a 7805 on sale, with upgraded components?
oh yes. heck yes -

just ordered one from bestbuy. but i still have doubts that i didn't get a good deal.
can someone just tell me, is this a good deal? -
-
You got a faster processor and a newer GPU than I have. -

Refurbished products can be an incorrect order, the customer changing his/her mind, cosmetic flaws, a software issue, returning to get money back, etc., there are TONS of reasons for returns. It does NOT just mean that a part broke. That is of course a possibility, but that is not the sole reason a part is being sold as a refurbished item. A refurbished item is simply a product that has been returned and has been restored to or confirmed as new or like-new condition and is being sold at a discount. -
you got an outstanding deal. Just because Asus has higher end stuff in theres doesn't mean its better. The cooling system on these laptops is superb and you will gaming for much longer than they will since they can fry and egg on their keyboards.
I'd buy one now if I didn't have a 7805u. -

Thanks for the advices, I decided to keep it. I'll receive the laptop in a week, so when I get it, I'll post my experiences here.
-
Nice, cause it's on backorder now
-
hmmm....I need to check this out when I go to work tomorrow. Just started working in the Computer department at Best Buy last week.
-
You could try to convince people that they should carry a couple in store

Finally got my P-7915u FX... What a beautiful machine! Boots up like lightning. Finished up very nicely (I will be wiping fingerprints off this thing constantly).
Bloatware isn't too bad, it was swiftly uninstalled.
I wish the built-in speakers had just a little more "thump," but they will do. There is some distortion at full volume. It doesn't matter to me, considering I have a 5.1 surround sound system to hook this up to.
Complete with Tarantula:

The keyboard takes some getting used to to type on. Although very good for a laptop keyboard, it still feels just a tad chincy. The arrow keys are narrowed to allow fitment of numeric keypad.
UPS admitted the package at 10:15am yesterday, and it was delivered today at about the same time. From California to Illinois. Nice! -
Congrats!
Glad you like it! Can't wait to pick up one for myself
EDIT: Wow, you... uh, you weren't kidding about the tarantula -
Yeah, GL3NE, the speakers on the 7800's are even worse from what I gather from the specs, although maybe they are the same?
In any case, even cheap ear buds resolve the issue easily. -
The 7915u is turning out to be a great machine! I've gamed on it for several hours, and I can report no signs of heat problems. It runs cooler than a Toshiba satellite I own, that runs at slower speed and has a lesser vid card. The keyboard feels fine. One note: the battery sticks out of the chassis. It is a tight fit for my case. Loving it so far!
-
I like the keyboard a lot more now that I have been typing on it most of the day. It's very quiet and the spacing is just right, but the "FN" and Control buttons are smashed together at the bottom left. It will just take some getting used to.
I actually have been getting positive scores in Counter-Strike now. This is amazing.
Windows 7 has some great basic photo editing features. I spend a lot of time at work enhancing photos. I work at a car dealership where I manage the internet inventory, and have to clean up images on a regular basis. I was ecstatic to find that there are more basic adjustments under "Fix" for Window's stock photo viewer. Attached is an example of such basic editing.
My co-workers all kept checking out my fancy 'rig.'

And will someone please write a thorough review on it, preferably with games like gta4 and crysis -
-
Hahaha, nope.... That is one that is for sale. I just posted that picture to display to characteristics of Windows 7's editing features. The rig I was referring to, of course, was my computer
Windows 7 is much, much better than Vista. In just about every way.
I ran a video stress test in Counter-Strike: Source last night. The resolution was set at 1440x900 (maxed) and all of the detail options were maxed out.
It rendered at 240 frames per second. -
It's gonna be fun when people get that with Crysis. Then again...
"What's a Crysis grandpa?" -
I can't make my mind up between this or the asus g72, i have a 6860fx right now and its a great machine, but i like the asus backlit keyboard and better screen.
But the temps is what will make me decide which to get. -
i had the G72 the gateway runs cooler all the way around plus its video card is not under clocked. around 66C in gaming.

Does Gateway offer an extended warranty? Don't like Bestbuy at all but like this machine.

Do I have to worry about ordering from them?
I applied for their credit card to use to buy it should I opt to buy from them.
On their site it says backordered in red by Quote: "usually leaves our warehouse within 1-2 weeks Estimate Arrival Time". What does that mean????
That they won't have any til 2 weeks?
I too want to buy this laptop but am miles away from any store to see hands on and would have to order from the Internet if I want one.
Judging from following this forum, it is a peach of a machine.
I have been wanting a laptop for over 2 years now and have bouncing from choosing a Toshiba to Gateway back and forth til I spotted this thread.
Should I wait and see if NewEgg will get it and if the price will come down or is there no known better time to get it? I want one.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. -

and bing.com has a 10% bestbuy cashback, so i think u should go for 7915u now! -
Link or it didn't happen.. how do you get those bing discounts, I Have $2k in interest free best buy credit burning a hole in my pocket! -
hello everyone,
I am new here in this site but am keep on looking this site even before I join in. Anyway, I would like to get some advise from you guys if it's worth to buy this latest model of gateway, actually am looking for a new laptop and I can't decide which one will I get, the toshiba x505, gateway P9xx series or Asus G71 series...
I asked some people out there regarding the gateway and they said don't buy gateway coz they said it's not worth it and they recommend asus...I tried to look for asus, one big issue for me is the underclocked gpu unlike gateway as the reviewer of this series said that the gpu clocks of gtx 260m of the P9xx series is normal, meaning not underclocked..
I really can't decide..my budget is until 1,500 USD...
Thanks in advance -
No manufacturer's notebook computers are "perfect", but you will find that many of us with Gateway's p-7800/7900 series models are very happy with them.
As long as you get any brand and you don't have any problems, you should be pleased, too.
I believe the Gateways are able to provide standard clocked (and ones that can be overclocked) Nvidia 260m GPU in their notebooks is because they have somewhat better cooling capabilities.
Maybe someone else can weigh in on this, too? -
No Find, So sad. Where! I'll so buy this in a second flat with 10% off
P.S. Best I can find is 5%. Better then nothing I suppose. -
I'm comparing this with the ASUS G60VX-RBBBX05.
How does anyone feel about the Gateway having a resolution of 1440 X 900 vs the 1366 X 768 of the cheaper ASUS?
Gateway weight is fully 2 lbs heavier. This makes it more likely that one could drop it by accident. It also weighs a ton at 9.1 lbs.
The battery does seem to have a good life of 3 hrs. Finally, the USB ports on the right are exactly in the way of hooking up a mouse. It forces your hand further away.
Comments anyone ??? -
Get the Gateway. Two pounds for better cooling, better resolution, cheaper price, better cpu and gpu... you get the point
Good luck! -
Okay I got 10% Wooo. Do a Bing Search. It worked at 4am for me, didn't work at 11am when I got the gift card I needed to complete the transaction. At about 4/5pm I tried again and it was once again In the results and I got 10% bing cashback. Got email from bing a little while ago confirming my 105$ cashback (Pending 60 days of course). Wooo. Give more info when I get to my other computer with the info I used to find the result.
P.P.S A Search on Bing for " Gateway - FX Edition Laptop with Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology " Usually brings up a sponsered result for best buy, that comes up for 10%, right on the gateway product listing. Wooo. Going to do this as soon as I have the gift card to cover what my best buy card won't. -
Please help with these questions first-------
1. Is Bing an OK safe outfit to sign up to? Do I have anything to worry about such as my privacy and getting into something I'd be sorry for?
2. If you had to choose----Would you take the 7908u or 7915u?
Is the only difference the hard drive size otherwise they are the same?
Thanks so much! -
Urlee, 1. Bing is Microsoft. So I would say its as safe as far as you think microsoft is safe.
2. 7915u, I'm 99% sure the only change is the Harddrive size. There is some rumors of LED screen based on amazon description I think, but it has to be a misprint. Nowhere on the specs list for the 79 FX Line does gateway mention a led screen for any of the models.
Guys do the bing rebate while you can! It only last till Nov 2 the extra bing. And best buy sponsered result doesn't ALWAYS pop up... yesterday at 4 am, yes, 11am no, 5pm YES. Good Luck.
P.P.S A Search on Bing for " Gateway - FX Edition Laptop with Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology " Usually brings up a sponsered result for best buy, that comes up for 10%, right on the product listing. -
the LCD screen is indeed an LED. You would be hard pressed to find a new laptop without one. The specs on the 7908u and 7915u are identical except for the harddrive. Check out prices on 500gig drives, and you'll find that the extra 180 gigs on the 7908u isnt worth 250 bucks.
-
Yeah, I'd get the 7915. But how do you know that it's an LED screen?
-
The screen is not LED. The only diffrence is the Hard Drive.
-
Is Bing cash back free or do you have to pay a fee?
-
The screen IS LED. Here is a link to a page on gateway's site: www.gateway.com/systems check it out!
-
-
here is a new link to an page off gateway's site that describes a laptop with LED backlit screen. www.gateway.com/systems/product/52966
-
Okay, so my links dont want to work... Just search: are gateway laptops made with LED backlit LCD? Google came up with a page from gateway describing the 15.6" HD LED backlit screen 1366 by768...
Gateway P-7915u FX is up on Best Buy's website
