Well, as I said earlier, I am getting that laptop Friday, and I'll probably post my impressions then. If you look at the post after yours the guy says that there is an identical laptop except for smaller hard drive (and maybe a different screen?) for $1050. I have heard the FX series of laptops are pretty well made, but the new series hasn't been out long and there isn't much info on them. I have a Gateway desktop that needed the motherboard replaced and my experience was great to be completely honest, but I've heard bad things too. As far as the comparison to the other laptops, the gateway is first and foremost is a gaming laptop, so, if you aren't planing on heavy gaming, it's probably not for you. It has good battery life for a gaming laptop (3 hours) but the others probably do better. The big stickler is probably the size and weight. The Gateway is a beast, around nine and a half pounds, so the others should be significantly lighter. I really don't know that much about the other two you mentioned, but from what I do know it all depends on how you want to use the lappy.

Thanks JesusFreak316 for your fast reply!!!

I think that I will order the Gateway P-7908U FX from Amazon.com...I was a little worried with the Gateway-Warranty...

Since you will get it Friday, could you please post some review?

I also would like to know if you are fully sure that this Gateway P-7908U FX
comes with the latest and NEW LED Display?

    Thanks again for your help!!

My pleasure. Anything to avoid homework. ;) I am planning on writing something on it, but don't hold me to it. As far as the LED screen goes, I'm just trusting that Amazon is telling the truth in the item description which I assume you've seen. I am kind of eying that $1050 P-7915 metioned further up though. 180GB more storage is not worth ~$125 more (not $200 since Best Buy charges tax and Amazon doesn't), but if it doesn't have the LED screen I'm definitely sticking with mine.

Unless something has radically changed in their motive operandi then the overclockable CPU is going to be out of the question. They've always stuck with the 3gHz upper limit and with the x9100 and the t9900 both running at 3.06gHz there is no reason for them to include the ability to overclock.

Honestly with the new laptop i'm getting i'm not going to know what to do with enabled OCing on a quad core (i'll be in new waters for the first time in a while)

Teehee...Pls have it...pll overclocking. :p That was baaad; it's late, I need to get to bed. I hadn't thought about that though, they could allow overclocking with the new case and new board. Doubtful though. What is the 3 GHz limit for, unlocked processors? I thought you couldn't change the fsb. But seriously this time, good night.

So is the only real difference the hard drive?

EDIT: So... The only difference between the 7915 you listed the specs for and the 7908 is the hard drive. Yet... There's a $200 difference. I'm totally buying the 7915 and putting a second hard drive in it. LOL

You can see more detailed specs at the link in my post below.

Now, the 7915 is coming out Sunday, right? Or is it coming out tomorrow?

Im note quite sure on the release date. I think the computer said it was like a week after the Win 7 launch, but I did not see any units in the warehouse yet or in transit. It may just be one of those things that just show up one day if they get drop shipped.

    Thanks, Gilmour! :D

So pretty much the only differences are the HDDs and the 260?

And, uh... 8GB of ram >_>

Well, the 78xx's had similar hard drives. I meant between the 7908 and the 7915. They both have 4 gigs of RAM and the GTX260m.

I hope they're released very soon because I'm going to be buying a 7915 along with a BD drive and another HD. LOL :)

Was going to place my order at Amazon today for the Gateway P-7908u FX Edition, but I have noted that they updated the shipping date to 3-5 weeks!!

JesusFreak316, I would like to know if amazon already shipped your Gateway P-7908u or if they also changed your shipping date?

The Gateway P-7908u is only available at Frys, but Store Pickup ( Unavailable for Shipping):

    http://www.frys.com/product/5960414?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

I agree with GilmourD and GilmourD...I searched and Compared the two models...Apperently the only difference between the P-7915u and the P-7908u is the hard drive, and there is a $200 difference only?

So, if this is really true, it is a better option to buy the P-7915u and put a second hard drive.

I checked the Updated Gateway FX Models:

    http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...systems/series/529598056.php?cmpid=ms_pseries

But I dont see that any of the new Gateway P-7908u or the P-7915u comes with the NEW and Latest LED Display...Any additional info anyone?

I am a little worried, because the LED Display is only mentioned at Amazon.com and www.jr.com, but the Gateway Oficial Web don´t say nothing about it...

    -------------

Aparently www.jr.com have corrected the Error...Now they say it is a 17" HD Widescreen Ultrabright LCD Display (1440 x 900 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio).

Amazon.com still have the 17" HD Widescreen Ultrabright LED-backlit Display, for the Gateway P-7908u.

I saw that 3-5 weeks thing too. I don't know what to make of it. When I ordered it Sunday, it said it would ship on Thursday and get here Friday. I haven't received a shipped notification yet though. I might call Amazon to find out the truth about the screen. The 7915 is definitely a better deal unless there's something we don't know yet.

Just noticed, GatewayBrazil shows the 7908 as having an LED. http://www.gatewaybrasil.com.br/modelos/p-7908u.htm

JesusFreak316, I also have noted that GatewayBrazil shows both the Gateway P-7908u or the P-7915u as having LED Displays...So I really don´t know what to think and I would prefer wait a week or two before place my order...Just to be fully sure I will get the Gateway FX Edition Laptop with the Real LED Display!!

It is very suspicious, but probably Gateway are offering the same USA Model with different Displays in Brazil and Singapore?:

I called Amazon and Best Buy. The Amazon guy told me that if my laptop doesn't have the LED screen as listed I could return it without the 15% restocking fee. The girl at my local Best Buy told me that she didn't have any records of a shipment of any FX models and doesn't know when/ if she will.

JesusFreak316 and GilmourD, Amazon or Best-Buy have given to anyone of you Delivery Estimate Date?

How can I contact Gateway via EMail, to ask them the release date of the new FX Models?

Since the laptop product page says "This product has not yet been released" (I guess that's an improvement to shipping in 3-5 weeks), I just called Amazon again and the girl told me that my laptop is still slated to get to me tomorrow, somehow. Still no ship confirmation. She said I should call them back if I don't get a shipped email by 8 or 9 tomorrow morning.

PySoMaNiC:GTX260m not only beats 9800mGTS but also the 9800mGTX! http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-260M.14559.0.html Where have you seen a Q9000 version? There was a Canadian version with that but no US version that I've seen. All the p-79 series laptops have ddr3, I don't see why a q9000 version wouldn't.

Just got an email from Amazon saying the order is delayed indefinitely. :( Guess I'll keep watching Best Buy.

I was really looking into getting the FX 915u But I was also thinking about getting Asus G72Gx-RBBX09 because I don't feel like waiting. does the DDR3 vs DDR2 ram make a difference and what do you guys think about these two laptops?

The only problem with that laptop is that the 9800M GTS scores 16500, and the 260M GTX scores 14700 if it beats it shouldnt the score be higher? The reason Im asking these questions is I just recently got an offer for my 7803 for 1400$ and I figured I would take it and then get 7902H with the Q9000 and GTX 260M cuz its only 300$ more for a quadcore and better video card.

I did see that, but I think it's a fluke. Look at other benchmarks, synthetic tests aren't that useful. They said it's essentially an overclocked 9800mGTX which is definitely faster that the 9800mGTS. The 260m is comparable to a desktop 9800gt, while the 9800m is comparable to a desktop 9600gt I believe. Oh, and don't forget that laptop graphics can't be compared as easily as desktop because you are comparing two whole different systems not one system with two different cards.

Did anyone see on almost all the pages with pre-orders that apparently the new FX has DVI out? That would be so much better for hooking up to monitors... maybe even DVI-D for 30" monitors??

Yeah your right about that, I figured that was the reason one card was in a really crap system the other in a good one hence the score difference because it makes no difference. Well I have 14days to return it for a full refund so ill just play with it and compare. Ill also figure out how to get 3DMARK06 so I can compare the two systems properly.

Wow.. I really want to buy one of these systems.. I've been salivating over a FX 7805US for a week or 3 since I discovered it. Before that i was looking at the hp 4710s.. Not as powerfull, but had some nice features.. not a gaming labtop for sure though.

Anyway, Now I'm looking at the 7915/7909.

    According the gateway site: http://www.gateway.com/systems/series/529598056.php?cmpid=ms_pseries

No labelflash/lightscribe it seems. DVD not bluray (Shrugs, moot w/o hd screen (blah hdmi..))

the 7915 i was just at a bestbuy, the employee tookit an employee was looking thru showed a drop date of 10/24 but also showed that no stores in my area had any, and that no warehouses did either. Online only? Price at least was showing for 1050. So only 50 more then 7805 is going for new. Would be nice to buy this non taxed though. That and a good extended warranty(Orlando, fl)

So the only difference between the 79 series (7915, 7909, 7917, 7920) models seems to be the Hard Drive size/speed/quantity (78 series had faster rpm it seems), Ram Amount, processor, graphics card! and major price change. even the high end doesn't have the 1900x1200.

Another questions, the 9800gts used the same eletricity as the 260m gtx, but the 260m gts uses less.. half less right? so same battery life probably as a 7805u (which i hear is fantastic) but a 260m gts would almost certainly increase the life?

So... Should I get the 7915 asap or go for the 7805 on tigerdirect, (Or elsewhere refurbhised for 869... but warranty).

JesusFreak316, do you got any adittional information or ship confirmation from amazon.com?

Since, I am a little worried about the apparently bad Gateway Cust. Service and because they are taking so long to Release the New Gateway P-7908u/P-7915u, I am seriously considering to get the ASUS G51J-A1 or the ASUS G72Gx-RBBX09 (with Intel® Core™2 Quad 2.0GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M + 17.3" LED-backlit LCD HD widescreen display 1600 x 900 - $1,299.99)...Instead of the New Gateway FX Edition.

The new ASUS ASUS G51J-A1 only Weights 6.5lbs (with 6-cell battery), and comes with the following:

    Intel® Core2 Quad i7-720QM 1.60-2.80GHz

The latest Nvidia GeForce 1024MB GTX260M (Same as the New Gateway FX Edition)

15.6" WUXGA FHD "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen (1920x1080)

640GB SATA (7200 RPM)Hard Drive (2 hds, But Raid Set Up Not Available).

    4,096MB (4GB) DDR3 1066MHz Dual Channel Memory (2x2GB)

    2.0 Megapixel Camera

2 Year ASUS GLOBAL Warranty, 24/7 Support, 1 Year Accidental Coverage & 2-Way Pre-Paid Overnight Shipping for Repairs.

The price of the ASUS G51J-A1 is a little high about $1,400.00, but I think it have Better Processor (i7), LED Display (1920x1080), Camera (2.0 Megapixel) and Warranty (2 Years)...and the best of all, 6.5lbs Weight only !!

I would greatly apreciate your comments about the NEW ASUS G51J-A1...and How it compares with the Gateway FX Edition Latops?

I am aware that the Core i7 is more efficient than Core 2 Duo, but Do you think is better to get a laptop with the latest 1.6GHz Intel i7-720QM Core i7 Processor, instead the 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 processor?

gateway's cooling system, i hear, is a lot better that the ones used by Asus. with an i7/quad with the 260 for a gpu and your bound to get a pretty hot lappie! I agree with you on the weight as an advantage for the Asus, but it has a smaller battery and costs more per-value than the 7915. The 7908 is already out on tigerdirect which costs the same as the G72Gx-RBBX09. my advice, relax an extra week or so, let the reviews start trickling in then you can make an inspired choice on what to buy.

Thanks Hotstepperk...I will wait an extra week!

What most worried me, is the Warranty (+Post Warranty Repairs) and the Bad Service that all users apparently are getting from Gateway...

What I really would like to buy is the Best Laptop from $1200.00 to $1500.00, with Nvidia 1024MB GTX260M and 16 to 17 LED Display!

Thanks again for your help and Fast Reply!!

Ulises, my laptop never shipped and it has been delayed indefinitely. I have been seriously looking at the G51j too, the i7, 1080p, and weight are very appealing. But as already stated the battery life o the lesser G51s are around two hours or less and a i7 would just make it worse. You can buy a 9-cell battery to get around 3 hours, similar to the Gateway, but it's $175 extra above the $1400 from Xoticpc. I was thinking, is all that really worth $500 more? The i7 won't really perform much better than the p8700 in games; the GTX260m, as good as it is, limits it. Also, for that $500 I could get a guitar I've been eying. Just don't think it's worth it. Finally, the temperatures concern me, I need this laptop to last at the very least 3 years, preferably 5+. For me at least. I'm considering the P-7915 not the 7908 now, hence the $500.

Hi JesusFreak316, I´m very sorry to hear that your laptop never have shipped and that it has been delayed indefinitely...

I agree, may be the ASUS G51J-A1 is an excelent laptop, but the price is to high...So, I am also considering the Gateway P-7915u not the 7908, for about $1,099.99...I really Hope that Gateway release Soon the new FX Models.

I have been also looking at others similar laptops from Sony-Vaio and MSI, but the price is higher than the Gateway FX Edition ones.

I also need this laptop to last at least 2-4 years. That´s why, that the only thing that is stopping me to considering the Gateway, is the Warranty and Repair Service...JesusFreak316, Do you know something About Gateways Tech Support?

I have a Gateway desktop; the motherboard got fried about two years ago and I had a pretty good warranty service. I called their number (one bad thing is it is not toll free, area code 407 or something), got an RMA number, took the computer to Best Buy, they sent it in, got it back in about a week or two, I think. They have free online chat that is very helpful. Overall it's been pretty good, but I guess other people haven't been as lucky.

The P-7915u is now available at the Best buy website, well backordered. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9605365&type=product&id=1218130485627

I'm going to Best Buy later today. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they're sitting in the store at the moment and the website inventory is wrong.

Thanks Gilmour, that inspired me to call my local Best Buy. The sales rep told me that it was expected today but doesn't have any records of any shipments coming. She said it should come sometime this week. Tell us what you find please.

I called a few of them since the wife and I are a bit behind schedule on our drive back from MD to NJ and the stop at BB would require a bit more logistical planning. LOL They all said that it's listed as online only in their system. D'oh! I want my laptop!
