Tell Maggie i will paypal her $100 for bios with multiplier sliders and if possible voltage and FSB adjustments as well hehe...but will be happy with multiplier adjustments up to 4.0gig![]()

she said she only accepty yen. And, it would take 50,000 yen plus a chicken head, still blinking..no body. then, she will agree. Lemme know.
-
-
Mhmm.. very nice use of the wraith. Any yen?
-
They won't let us OC because they know then we'll go OVER 9000

I hope they do come around and support quad-core. So they'll say it voids the warranty, but a year from now when the warranty has already expired I could really care less. It'd be nice, for once, to have a laptop equipped with a bios that's friendly towards substantial upgrades. It would go a long way in restoring my confidence, which admittedly has been shaken by buying a brand new laptop that got discontinued 3 months after release...
Thanks for all your time on this!
I have to go look at what bios my 7811 (2887 serial) is running. I'm not entirely sure which one is on there. I haven't loaded a new one yet since I haven't seen a compelling reason to do so yet. -
yes...considering that quad can run at 3.5 ghz. proven by intel

gateways' "decision making" and "tactics" makes one think there is someone in acer wanting the brand extinct.
-
donno, they did just start a whole new model line, the MC-series. I honestly wish gateway went extinct and was completely absorbed into Acer. With a brand name reputation as bad as Gateway's, I don't know why they haven't yet.

well because during the 68xx/17x series run they had a great rep. I would dare say good enough to make up for the crap they were putting out for a little while.
THe 1st gen 7811 pretty much killed it though. They still put out machines that are equal quality to any other consumer brand, its just people getting the FX series were expecting a superior computer and the 7811 pretty largely did not deliever that until they fixed the bugs.
I will give it to gateway, they were the first to offer the celeron 2 chipset and that was a big deal showing they were willing to push the bar and do it first... the problem is they failed at QC in the process of trying to be the leader of the pact -
-
lol i was rubbing my head thinking whats with the history class thing?

Ok..quick catch up. Im back to work, so I won't be able to frequent as often. But anyhow..that's not the catch up. I spoke to Gway's Escalated Issues Dept.(thanks Jak for the sig) - The guy was extremely nice, and as I stated elsewhere..almost too nice to be upset with. But, they are not able to email Wistron on my behalf. He returned my request with that response. I explained how I understand, from a business stand point, it puts them at risk.. I burn MOBO, attempt warranty claim, etc. Then justified why I already voided that, if the CPU was replaced. And insisted the warranty isn't the concern. But spending over $1000 on a CPU and getting $600 worth of performance, because Gateway is worried about me breaking my computer wasn't quite fair. And in the end..he stuttered, mumbled, and didn't have a response(kinda sounded like turetts). He asked if he could call me right back. Two minutes later, he calls back with his demeanor re-established, and it almost sounded like a woman was in the background whispering what to say. He explained Gateway doesn't support any upgrades, or alterations to the original system. And, by support, they won't alter the system to support other integrations.
So, my next step is to call Acer. Those guys are much cooler. One question..can someone PM me a serial number so that I can make the claim? seeing as I don't have a rig anymore it would be difficult. Oh, and peace of mind to the buyer of mine..I didnt use that serial number for any claims or support calls.
-
Since they took my first 7811 back as just the lappy and the battery, I still have the box, brick, and everything else from it, including the serial. I'll PM that to you.

@Eurasianman & royk50
give me a break I've been working a lot of 18 hours days
plus... [redneck]all them there words that start with 'C' look the same to me [/redneck]
And yes I meant Centrino 2 -
Like spinach stuck between your teeth, I noticed it but was too polite to mention it.
-
If you still need a serial lemme know.
E-DOG the fact you don't even have your 7811 anymore and still trying to help us is just SWEETAZZ!
We need more mofo's like you on here hehe! -
thanks BMW.. I will likely be spending a bit less time on it when the OCZ arrives. But, I figure while I'm not obsessed with a new toy, then I may as well contribute to the Fam! And, got a serial..but thank you for the offer
-
E don't you have the OCZ yet?
-
hell naw.. otherwise I'd have my 3dmark in my sig..and not on order
I delayed it by adding bluray when I found out turbo memory wouldnt work. They had to send the biatch back to build team(out of state) to swap drives. And,
supposedly it will ship Monday. And I paid for one night shipping, so should be here Tuesday. Otherwise, I'm gonna make a scene ;P Not really..but I will call and bother them a bit.
-
I have to say, that OCZ is deadly.
-
LO-F*ckin-L!!!!! I love the Avie Jak!!!! That's awesome!

Ha yeah it pretty much describes how much of a loser I am sometimes.

Right after I installed this bios a few days ago, I started having shutdown issues where the system just wouldn't shutdown all the way. The screen would turn black as if it was going to but then would just stay there. All the lights would be on and the drive light would flicker as if it was writing, but no shutdown.
When powering up, same kind of thing. Would see the little progress bar in Windows, but once the screen turned black, same thing - disk light would just keep flickering periodically but would never get to the desktop.
If I forced the power off completely and then rebooted, it usually would usually boot normally.
Mind you, I am undervolting so not sure if the new bios somehow doesn't like that.
Anyway, I'm back to .05 to see if the issue still continues.
BTW, the IMV-021W.exe file inside the .zip file is actually an executable zip of the same files and tries to overwrite everything again. If you unzip that file into another folder you get the actual flash program. Not sure if you meant to duplicate it that way. -
I have a similar issue. I'll want the system to shut down, but it'll restart instead.
I've found the only way to really force it to shut down (and even IT doesn't work all the time), is manually select Start/Shut Down, then open the drop down box menu, toggle up with the arrow and then down, then press Enter twice. Strangely enough that works more often than not.
I've tried a lot of the "Vista won't shut down" remedies, but they're for another problem. Mine just keeps restarting. -
Found new IMV-030W.zip bios here
ftp directory
updates to 9C.12.00 -
Nice find ipodman.
-
do upload to a place it will stay, this ftp location can be deleted in a sec
-
I found the newest Packard Bell bios as well .
-
How this new bios works for p7811? What things does it change?
-
has anyone tried this new version?
-
V30 for 7811 or packard bell? I may try it later in hopes for sliders!
-
Is there even hope for bios which has OC capability? And i know that with even supported bios you cant OC if the motherboard doesn't have clockgen chip soldered on it. So the 1 million dollar question is: "Does P-7811 FX have that clockgen chip?" Office and "normal" laptops don't have that one, only "special" laptops have it.
-
its probably gonna be a no ):
-
hey there Ipodman..Great job on that. +rep
I was checking that BIOS list, waiting for them to post it. Thanks for watching my back
I'll check release notes, and post em in a sec..
or, not. No release notes. Looks like this is the one that's the final version tho. They took it from Maggie's working BIOS section, and now it's in the mass-production area. So.. here's both direct download links. And, like the original 9c.08 download..this is not going anywhere.
9c.12.00 BIOS for Windows Flash
9c.12.00 BIOS for DOS Boot Flash
Now, can someone flash and let us know the difference? I'd assume that this *is* the quad support.. Seeing as 9c.10 was where they left off, when beginning to implement. Also, can someone with an extreme CPU flash to check for multipliers? That may save me a few hours worth of harassing Acer
That was the agenda for today anyhow, but I'd rather do other things if possible.

Hi Gents,
I'm not a gamer but rather got a Gateway 7811FX for on-the-go financial modeling.
E-Wrecked you're great! I've had a lot of issues getting the bios updated for a raid(0) setup but thanks to you it's done.
NOW is there any way to get 2x 4 gig dims in this machine for 8 gig of memory? It would be great if it is a matter of bios capabilities and not mother board constraint.
Feedback welcome.
Cheers - Sean -
I currently have 9C.08 installed and was going to try and D/L this one but the UID and PW seem to be incorrect. I tried the original UID and PW as well but they didn't work either. All I really want is working RAID. I can't seem to find a place to enable or configure it in 9C.08. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be a happy man.
-
RAID option will appear in BIOS setup if and when you have 2 hard drives connected.
I personally would not bother with the new one if you have 08 working. Unless of course someone finds some big advantage ... hasn't happened yet. -
I have two identical drives installed. They are both seen in the BIOS and OS, I still dont' see a RAID option.
-
Dang, worked for me. BIOS is simple so I'm sure you must be in the right spot. The one with AHCI option?
-
It's There.
-
/sigh that was it...I was looking for it to be more blatently obvious. As soon as you said AHCI I rebooted and checked the submenu. THANKS for kickstarting my brain. Next Q: Are there drivers for Vista64 for the RAID or does it detect it. I just want to make sure before I blow away my disk and start over that I have all the drivers I need.
-
Vista sees it. After install you will want to get the most recent Intel Matrix Storage Manager v8.6 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101
Be sure you have at least the wifi driver (or all the drivers). They are in the Acer folder or on line. They are not on the CD.
You may want to use Gparted to get rid of the 10 GB hidden restore partition. Unless you want to try keeping it (have not heard anyone succeeding in making it work with new install). Just make your own image with Acronis or DriveSnapshot. -
Is there an F6 install of 8.6.0.1007? I don't want to install the ****ed Matrix software (which is just another 32-bit process I don't want running), I just want the driver. Installing the Manager installs the driver, but I've found uninstalling the manager rolls back the driver as well, which is idiotic.
Nevermind, found them:
32-bit: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/lic...All&OSFullName=All+Operating+Systems&lang=eng
64-bit: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/lic...All&OSFullName=All+Operating+Systems&lang=eng -
Do what you wish but the Matrix Storage Manager does not run that I can see unless you start it for some reason.
-
Installed the 8.6 driver and my computer hasn't exploded, so... *thumbs up*
And when I installed the 8.5 Matrix software, it ran a process. Weird. -
After you switch to RAID in BIOS, you still need to configure RAID. The prompt to press CTRL+I only stays up for about 2 seconds and I missed it the first time. I guess the question is, do I have to do CTRL+I when prompted at power-up or can you use the Intel Matrix storage manager to do it once you are in Vista? And if you can set up the RAID config via Intel Storage Manager in Vista, do you need to reinstall the OS?
-
Yep CTRL+1 first.
-
OK, that's how I did it. I'm used to larger systems (servers, mainframes) where you can configure RAID on the fly and the firmware moves the sectors around without disturbing the filesystem and OS.
-
Hey guys new to the site but been following these forums for a few weeks now when I got my 7811 FX. Great info E-Wrecked 3/4 of what I know about this lappy is from you
. Just curious if anyone has found an official fix for the tzs0 temp reaching 98*C besides the RMClock undervolt walk around. I have the 2888 serial and even without an OC it will still trigger the downthrottle sometimes when playing WAR. I'm hoping maybe the new bios solved this, still using stock 9c.08.00.
