Skatex, I found out that the older 9c.05.00 BIOS tended to downclock less often, and be more flexible with tzs0. However, if you have a RAID setup..then forget that. Otherwise the 9c.12.00 BIOS may be an option for you. Several folks have installed it, and they reported an issue with reinstalling sound..otherwise seems straight. If ya can find Jakamo or Quadzilla, or even BMW.. PM emJak fixed the sound issues with no problem, if I remember right.
-
Could somebody please post a link to the 9c.12.00 BIOS? The FTP seems to be dead now (well the username/password seem to be bad).
I would really like to try the latest BIOS.
Also, I installed the Pre-Beta of Windows 7 that was shown by MS last week on my 7811FX. Boy is it fast compared to Vista. I know its an early version but its very nice.
Thanks!

which build is your w7 ?
-
Kick, lemme grab it..one sec.
-
Thanks E-Wrecked!
Here is the file info for W7:
6801.0.080913-2030_Client_en-us_ULTIMATE-ULTIMATE_GB1CFRE_EN_DVD
I know a lot can change but W7 is really pretty fast. I didn't know what to expect but I sliced off 20GB to install it on too and its actually very nice. I like how the gadgets can be on your desktop (like OS X) and the whole auto size of the window is pretty smart.
The thing actually runs pretty quick. I installed the latest video driver from laptopvideo2go with their modded inf and it works great with W7.
Its very stable and am I thinking about installing a bunch of stuff (VS 2008 for example) on it to see how well it does.
I can tell you this, its 'feels' much faster than Vista Ultimate 64. Honestly, I'm not sure why but it really does.
Thanks!

i'll wait for the x64 build to test it, thanks for the input.

This has 05-.12 BIOSes.. 30 being the latest 9c.12 BIOS -
Thank you E-wrecked!!!!!

So what is actually new/improved with the 9c.12.00 BIOS against older versions?
im still using the 9c.08 and im wondering if its worth to upgrade? -
bump for wanting to know what .12 does as well.
-
bump as well for same reason
-
I'm guess people are satisfied enough by 9C.08.00 that nobody is bothering to really test it. that's kinda my thought anyway... although it would be nice to know about sliders and quad core possibilities...
-
I still have it on my lappy...I notice no changes and there are no sliders for X9100! -
did anyone ever find out if tzs0 is cured by the .12 BIOS?
PS - I just wanted to bump my thread, cause it hurt my feelings that it slipped to pg. 3 -
I've actually noticed under .12 that the two sensors are about 2-3C *higher* than with .08. Then again, I've never had either over 51C, and I don't have an X9100, either.
-
so im safe to upgrade to .12? no problems?
-
It's been safe.. it;s just a matter of whether or not you wanna do it. I believe you have to re-enable sound. Or, so I hear. No pun intended.
-
ha!
that was quite the humorous yarn. -
yarn; ball of string?
-
I had to re-install the sound drivers when I upgraded to .08 as I remember.
-
..you still owe me a beer and burger. When you comin to Jax?
-
Does the updated bios happen to normalize the GPU fan speed? When the GPU reaches a certain temperature I notice the fan bursts for a second then turns off right away. Quite loud and annoying....
Edit: Did a thread search but nothing came up.
If somebody knows I would greatly appreciate it.
-
Yes.. and lowers temps slightly.
-
Quick question. I have the stock Bios on my 7811. Should I upgrade the bios? If yes which one should I upgrade it to? .08, .10 or .12?
Thanks in advance. -
Thanks for the quick response BMW135i.
I have tried them all and it appears (crosses fingers) .12 is the only one that has fixed the GPU fan problem for me. However, I can no longer access the bios by hitting F2 at POST, just continues to load into windows. Not sure what that is about... :|
Edit: Temps of CPU have also gone down 31c (88f) idle
Last revision was 37c (99f) -
The ACPI table on the .12 BIOS is reconfigured providing much lower CPU temps. It's cause of the quad-support, they had to re-work the power across the board, in order to stay within the rigs pre-configured total voltages and total power consumptions. Id still like to know how TZS0 reacts.
-
TZS0 is as usual. One quick question - is it related to vista? Will switching to xp fix anything?
PS. Hello everyone. My first post here - discovered this forum because of TZS0 problem and it looks like I'm gonna stay for a while
-
Welcome, kalbit.
And no, XP doesn't affect TZS0. It's not windows..there are quite a few people who have theories. The board is underpowered, IMHO. And it's just a short. As a matter of fact..after reviewing the PB release info.. I did run across an excel doc that showed a patched MOBO, with several changes as compared to the 7811 MOBO. I couldnt translate the language, so I have no idea..but there were quite a few changes to the MOBO between series.

Is it altogether possible that to cut costs Gateway developed a laptop (at first) that would only handle a 25W TDP CPU? Aren't the X9100s and Q9x00 chips 45W TDP? If the TZSx sensors run at ~40-50C as-is with the P8400, is it no surprise when you tack on almost another 45% requirement that the temps double?
-
-
there are higher end models though, that carry extreme processors from the previous gen, i highly doubt that they would spend money to redesign, I assume they used the previous gen versions, and made a universal heat sink, power handling system, not one that was unique to each laptop type.
-
i just received my new p-7811fx and it came with a p-2886 sn is this a problem is it any different from the 2887-2888 sn laptops and should i upgrade the bios to the newer version any help would be greatley appreciated!
-
you should always upgrade to the newest BIOS, if its for that specific laptop of course, there are changes the manufacturer though to be neccessary
-
which version should i use and is this serial number thing a big deal!
-
so nobody else using bios .12 have the issue of not being able to hit F2 during boot up to access the BIOS menu?
-
That started after the 9c.05.00 BIOS ws replaced.. Ya gotta hit F10, and enter BIOS thru the menu.
-
haha i'm already updated to .08 so if i havn't noticed it yet i prolly won't with the .12 update =)
Thanks E -
can you guys tell me where i can get the .12 download i would greatly appreciate it!
-
-
Thanks!!!!
-
Guys maybe it'll sound stupid but if I install 32bit OS on a 64 bit BIOS would it be downgradable then or can I switch between 32bit and 64bit BIOSES ?
-
BIOS is the same for both.

I have to wonder if I'm the only person here still running 9C.05.00? I get that feeling from looking around.
It's weird...I have a 2887 with the 9C.05.00 bios and ridged power supply. It's been rock-solid stable since I bought this thing. I guess I lucked out this time. -
Actually, my last 7811 was the 2887 series. I upgraded to the 9c.08 BIOS after a week or so of running the .05, and then my temps went off kilter a bit..and TZS0 would trip a lot easier.(I had the x9100 CPU)
So, went back to the .05 BIOS and never had an issue. I didn't set that one up in RAID - so, it didnt bother me. The .12 BIOS has had very good feedback..it seems to be better than the .05 and .08. You may wanna just check it out. You can always flash back.
-
what should i do my p7811 is a 2886 i just got it brand new a couple of weeks ago from bestbuy tthinking of returning it since all are saying the 2888 is better did they sell me an outdated computer and if anyone knows what are the differences would appreciate the help!
-
don't believe the hype, test your machine thoroughly if its good then...its good.
-
I agree with royk. The initial results and issues which some people complained about, were not really well founded. high temps, thats an easy fix..and lockups, new drivers resolved those. The only other issue was it didn't offer RAID, the 9c.08 BIOS download fixed that. Now, it's not often any new problems arise. Just folks learning the ropes with the FX rig.. and there are going to be some computers out there that may have an issue, but it would be something that drivers and such just don't fix. Run your system for a week, do some gaming..test some new drivers. If you don't have any problems in the first 7-10 days..you likely won't ever have any. Unless, as I said, it's hardware related.. but that can happen to any computer.
And, Welcome to the Family! -
thanks for the info guys! i do seem to have one problem for shure and that is when playing a dvd/movie there seems to be some light bleeding through the screen in the middle but only if looked at from the sides it is annoying. is this acceptable/normal and again thanks for the information/help!
-
try this..grab a clean, lint free cloth..and lightly rub the center of the screen towards the outer edges. That whiteness is from the screen and system being compacted while boxed. See if ya can't "massage" the screen just a bit, and hopefully it will massage away. Should only take a few strokes.
-
Agreed with E-wreck. I have the same issue, also not as severe. I only do this though when I'm watching a movie. Otherwise, it's not very noticeable, unless you do things with dark backgrounds and try to view the screen at different angles
