give this a try: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=265740
Shoud help ya out a bit..get the latest PhysX, Nvidia Control Panel, and the xfastest drivers. To install Xfastest, you wont need to clean install your video drivers. Just run the .exe to extract them, then find the setup.exe in the folder and install. No need to clean anything. Now, enjoy
-
which one is better DOX,S FORCEWARE 180.43 or XFASTEST 177.85? AND AGAIN THANKS!
-
See previous post. I am biased, though. however, the bias is proven.
-
DOX's Forceware 180.43 seems to be working for me. I also like the fact that I can play on battery now without a performance hit.
Currently playing: Spore, FallOut 3, FarCry2, and CoD4 @ 1920x1200 with max settings (FarCry2 is an exception). -
I thought you said in a different thread that 9c.12 did NOT make the TZS0 thing go away? Maybe it was someone else...
-
Raise the back of the laptop about an inch (or two) while gaming. Make sure you don't block the vents.
-
dunno if anyone else had this problem, but with update 30, my card reader would lockup the computer whenever i inserted a card in.
Flashed down to 2nd newest one (27 or 28) and the problem went away.
Also the audio issue, tried installing the drivers, and it couldn't detect the hardware. -
I just had the same problem installing the audio drivers from gateway. i think i fixed it when i made sure i selected "the other one" (try to update the one you didn't select yet) when installing the new driver, i used the "have disk" method. eventually it worked. just keep playing
-
180.70 Forceware
Cleared up all problems for me !!!
The Doctor -
good to know

are you a real doctor, or do you just play one on TV?

Got a pal at work that is having lockup issues with his new "off-the-shelf" P-7811FX. He has updated all the drivers and Vista updates, and has the .08 BIOS, etc. Has installed COD4 and COD5 and after just a couple of minutes; it locks up and requires a "hard" reboot, (holding the Power button to turn off). I cannot remember having all those issues when mine was in virgin (+ updates) condition. He has a cooler stand that it rests on and the vents are not obstructed. The weird thing is is that he got this one as a replacement for his earlier Gateway model 68xx something that simply broke and it played COD4 with no problems... ack!
Am I missing something on helping him get up and gaming? Thanks in advance for you help!
ps Hope this isn't in a inappropriate thread; if so; please feel free to move it. -
Ask him to download a temperature monitoring program and report the temperatures right before these lockups. It's likely that he could have a faulty GPU which might overheat and which would warrant a replacement.
-
I don't think it's temperature.
Until the 180 series drivers, there was no official support for the 9800M GTS.
I have the .10 bios and latest Forceware 180, all is well now, all is calm, no high temp, no loud fan.
Only thing that changed was the Forcware driver install (from NVidia).
The Doctor -
Just wondering:
Have there been any new versions of the BIOS since .12? I haven't had a bit of problems with .12 but was just wondering if there was any newer versions?
Thanks! -
If it's not temp related then I guess it could be some other hardware issue (hard drive ?) or maybe even corruption related. I just swapped out my RAID config with a new Seagate 320 and restored my system with all original stuff, original factory drivers, etc and then installed and played COD5 and had no issues playing it through the 1st and 2nd missions. Given that, I told him to take that unit back and get it swapped out. Either that or "restore" his to factory condition like I did and check it one last time. You never know what others "tinker" with that may contribute to the lock-ups. I forgot to tell him to run a temp monitor util; I'll see if he still wants to try it.
Thanks for your suggestions. -
the new xfastest driver 180 took hibernate away from my comp. Also the right fan does not turn off since the install...20 degree processor and 37 degree video idle....would the bios fix this or is my computer just retarded.
-
try dox's instead.
btw doctor you don't have to put the doctor at the end, your name is directly to the left of your post so we can see who made the post

bump for easy access - one day this will be stickied.

I use WD Scorpio Blacks # WD3200BEKT Hard Drives in every upgrade I do ,
Until I went to upgrade my P-7811FX with a pair in raid0 What a joke the laptop wouldnt even make threw the o/s install crashed , I pulled them both out threw in a pair of ....
FUJITSU 320gb #MHZ2320BJ HDD worked like a charm , I will never buy another WD again .
Yeah I know there is a update ...... -
the update doesnt work on those drives.. been there, done that. Did you install in RAID, or in AHCI mode? AHCI is the ideal option when installing the 2 HDDs. Unless of course going RAID.
-
I'm having problems getting the audio drivers to install after a fresh vista 64 install. I upgraded to the .12 bios before I installed, and now I can't get the audio drivers to install (original drivers). Is there an updated package that might work? Anyone ran into this problem?
-
Ok I was reckless and just told windows to ignore that it didn't think it was the correct driver. It appears to be working, although I havn't tried the HDMI port. At least it's detecting headphones/speakers plugged in now, and not making me manually switch audio devices.
-
aaron, that's a known issue with the .12 - hit up jakamo5 and he'll help you resolve it
-
cant you get the banned in red like it should be ?
-
Right now i switch manually if i want sound to go through laptop speakers, headphones or over HDMI. So annoying. Ofc Conexant audio program no longer works with the latest bios.
-
so I got the bios updated and let me say..easier then my desktop or the servers at work LOL!
for those wanting to use the msdos method via USB use this
http://www.thepcspy.com/read/bootable_usb_flash_drive
one of the links is dead but no need to fear.
download the format tool. extract. install. then run(not even as administrator
)
when it asks create a boot disk and specify the system files that you extracted with the installer earlier. once its done you got yourself a bootable disk! then just put a folder called bios on the root of it. place the bios version you want to install in there.
start the laptop with USB key in. when it loads hit F10. choose USB.
after that you get a msdos prompt.
cd bios
dir
(verify files are there)
bios.bat
and pray it works
-
yes it was that easy.
only its not "bios.bat" it was ar@#@$@#$%.bat (where @#@$@#$% stands for some combination of numbers and letters)
rep for you and e. -
question now. Raid driver in Vista setup. where can I find one that works? I am getting blue screened when I try the one from here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=327669
any ideas? -
found out why!
http://www.dashken.net/index.php?/a...-computer-contains-a-valid-system-volume.html
seems as vista is not as smart as we all wish it was! USB can not be ahead of HDD's in boot order in BIOS. thats why I was getting blue screen and no system volume found.
lets hope this driver works better than the windows one! -
lol..good luck.. and royk, lemme try red.
-
Uhmm..no dice with the banned in red.. BAND That's as much as I could fit..and then it just shows the code anyhow
-
thanks for all the help btw E-Wrecked! you rule!
-
oh..what'd I do? your welcome. heh
-
got everything up and running. not really impressed with synthetic benchmarks but overall it seems snappy
-
Well congrats
glad it worked out for ya.. oh, and your speedtest is only 13x faster than mine ;P
-
Hey guys. I've read the first few pages of the thread but can someone just confirm for me - it's still not possible to overclock a X9100 in a 7811 right, regardless of BIOS version?
EDIT:
Re-reading it you can overclock with BIOS 9c.10.00 v28 right? If so what is the maximum overclock? -
pretty sure its 3ghz max
-
So you cannot select higher multipliers to go above the default 3.06GHz clock speed? Can someone with an X9100 confirm?
-
yes that how it was with e-wracked and bmw111 (i think that was his nick) cpus.
-
Confirmed.
-
So sorry what is that all about in the e-mail on the 22nd of October stating that you can overclock but you will void your warranty?
-
and here are my benches in all its glory!
drives are two seagate 200gb 7200rpm sata's
one just happens to be a g series(shock sensor one)
In Raid 0 with 64kb stripes
here are my read speeds
and the write speeds
-
your burst rate seems low, look for some thread on how to enable something i forgot its name
lol
-
the bottom button maybe?
I am going to speed test it in a minute, have a bunch of stuff running right now
-
Ok I've read the other thread regarding 9C.12.00 and I see that overclocking is still not supported but it wouldn't be recommended anyway because of this fault with the TZS0 temperature monitoring?
So what BIOS is recommended with an X9100 if you also want to use RAID - 9C.10.00? However weren't the KBC settings changed in BIOS 9C.08.00 and that introduced the temp monitoring problems?
focusfre4k that feature is not performance related at all, it simply reintroduces an old bug that some old software relies on. It is a common misconception that it does improve performance. Have a read of this. -
lol well then! I will bench it here in a second and test it out to see!
-
and with that option turned on just for fun.
the read time
the write time
-
Well I need to eat my words then. How odd. I wonder if something was going on in the background in your first benchies?
