its possible. I had resource monitor up on this one. and it was just the HDtune process running most the time. who knows. maybe someone else can chime in? either way this raid stuff is fun :D

I am normally working with the Raid 5 systems here at work. its nice to do it in a desktop for a change hehe

that Write Back Cache bumped my burst to around 1100, but also I had to disable Windows Indexing and Superfetch. :D focus, lemme know if you have any issues with the HDDs clicking.. my WDs clicked and it drove me crazy. Somewhere in this thread I ranted about it. I know there's an update, it just doesn't work. But, overall you look solid :)

iaTa; that email basically stated that it can be implemented however could cause system instability. She can do it, but not unless Acer/Gateway places the request. Ive gone up the Gway ladder to no avail.. however I think someone at Acer may be more willing. All she needs is an Email to enable it. Also, the KBC was updated in 9c.08.00 - likely for RAID stability, and possibly CPU. Personally, I had the least TZS0 problems with the 9c.05.00 BIOS and even 9c.07.00 - forfeiting RAID. See clicking issue, thus I wasn't bothered. 9c.10.00 has had great feedback.. but, there's still not OC'ing on any of 'em. Personally, I didn't care for the .08 BIOS @ all. :p TZS0 went nutz on me, and since I liked to OC it was quite a pain. When it comes to the x9100 - RMClock is the only saving grace cause TZS0 will trip regardless, if you OC the GPU whatsoever. And, unless using 9c.05 it will likely trip period. Just my .02 cents :)

no noticeable clicking. sounds just like one drive in there and not two..definitively not an issue for me. I am using seagates though so that may explain it :p stupid WD!

overall its snappy. was worth the investment.

now all I need is a screaming CPU in here and I am golden!

I am running 2 Seagate 5400.6's in Raid0 on my 7811 and am curious about the Write Back Cache. I have the options set through Vista's settings (don't remember exact location but within properties I think on the drive...) but when looking in Intel's Matrix Storage software it isn't showing when looking at the drives. When trying to "select" it in the Intel application, it doesn't do anything but I'm also seeing it as a report window (the only options I'm seeing on the application).

What do I trust or where do I set the option?

you'd set the option via device manager, under your drives.. there should be an advanced tab/button to enable it. I'd trust the Matrix Manager if it says it's enabled though..seeing as it is controlling the RAID. But, device manager is where I've always enabled it. Like the previous pic by focus, I make sure both boxes are checked. :)

I just bought this laptop and flashed the BIOS to 9c.08. However, I'm unable to find anything about OC'ing. Not to be a noob or anything, I'm used to overclockable motherboards from the desktop variety. Can anyone shed some light and show me where to start? Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS: I'm currently looking into buying either the X9100 or the T9800. So the overclocking test is about to happen with the stock CPU.

Sorry, sorry a little confused here, but which is the latest and which is the best running bios. I installed both HDD into my notebook and now wanna setup raid, but noticed on the first page there is a v26 prominently displayed, yet there is also a v28. Can someone help me?

EDIT: Answered my own question, though I think its really dangerous that there is no confirmation dialog when you run the flash.

Yes..hence my warning in the OP - just sit tight, and hold on..cause it is kinda scary. ;) But hey..that's why Gway doesnt have it for download. This is straight from the coder, so they didnt need to confirm the flash..they'd flash and reflash and do what they needed..why have to click a button that says "Ok to continue"? And 9c.11 or 9c.05 no RAID - others prefer 9c.10 - It's all up to you :)

hi all, got my P7811 today, it passed memtest86, prime95 except video stability test and furmark test. the temp jumps sky high right after the test started within 10 minute. it jumps to 102 Celsius at one point. when play Crisis it freezed after half hour. it appears the temp keeps climbing and adding up. at first i thought the gpu fan is dead but it's not. if i open up the laptop and get to the gpu heatsink, would i be able to apply some AS5 on it?

Just use the Crysis box and prop the back of the notebook up. Should solve your GPU over heating issues :)

This thread has been so helpful and resourceful. Thank you E-Wrecked.

I upgaded the bios to .12. Sound installed by iteslf. Works fine.

Upgraded to the 177.85 GPU Drivers. Got a benchmark with 3dmark 06 of 9320. good I say.

Now, just waiting to get the X9100 on ebay so I can upgade and move on. I will keep watching everything on the P7811FX.

    Thanks!

If you are looking for an OEM, there is one on eBay right now for $733 [Buy It Now auction]. If you are interested on an ES, I bought one last week and the auction I got it from had one left, you cask extremeprocessor [eBay name] if he still has it available; the item number was 120340373853.

yeah, I have been watching him. He has a x9100 for around 473 i believe. His feedback is pretty trusting as well. I have asked one of his buyers what he thought of the x9100 and he said it came fast, looked good, wasn't doa, and he was very pleased.

    oh yeah, E-wrecked;

So do they plan on coming out with the quad-core for this socket type on the 7811fx?

I saw you talking about the bios support and all and was wondering.
Before buying this great laptop, I almost bought the Sager NP96xx from XoticPC. But after seeing what hardware was included with this, I thought Acer/Gateway had to be crazy to put this thing together and sell it for the cost they are selling it for. My god, they have to be taking a loss on it.

I checked out the laptop you just bought from Xotic PC. Very costly. Did you buy the barebone and just buy the hardware to personalize?

Anyway, need to go to work. Happy New Year from Iowa.

    @massive77

I see that you have Ubuntu on your 7811. What driver did you use for the intel 5100 wireless card?

I had a little trouble with my dell 1500 wireless card with ubuntu. After using ndiswrapper to install the dell 1500 wireless driver, not only I don't have wireless but I lost my ethernet wired broadband as well.

Thinking about installing ubuntu on my gateway 7805u.

Not sure off hand. I will have to look into it. I do remember getting an error but was able to connect. I know that it had problems connecting or working with WPA. When I get off work tonight I will check it out. I am on lunch now.
Yeah it was my first time ever using Ubuntu. So installation for me took a minute or two. Lots of research for sure. I am not a linux savy type of person. So it has all been a learning experience. I am sure I can find out though. No worries m8. I'll get back to you.

Best info I could find. I went over to Ubuntu and checked it out. I see wireless networks available, try to connect and it tells me it requires some kind of password(not the WPA password) hell, I don't know. I installed it because I wanted to see if I could do it and also because of the Compiz Fusion interface. Eye Candy! lol

The 7811FX won't ever have a quad-core offered..and it's safe to assume Gateway will sometime in the near future. They/Acer released the Packard Bell rig with the quad-core setup..and the new 7805u *should* allow for quad-core. Just waiting on someone to drop it in and try. My rig was barebones, I already had the CPU, RAM, HDDs, so it didn't run me an arm and a leg to buy. I had already given an arm for my peripherals, so the leg wasn't much thought for the rig. I'm very pleased with this system though, it's treated me well. :)

And.. the 7811FX is still a better budget rig. :p

so they are bringing packard bell back huh? LOL, I used to sell them at Monkey Wards back in the day. Wow. They came with windows 3.1 and were just starting to come out with Windows 95. When I hear packard bell, I think stone age. But I guess, same goes for Acer(Gateway).

Well.. This is just a heads up for those of you who don't know. These BIOSes will also work on the 7805u - would anyone be willing to flash the .12 version, or the .10 version to see if there is a temp difference? If not, I understand. Just curious if the new system used the same fans, and cools as well as the 7811, or better. :)

Guys, I updated my bios from original 7801u .08 to .12 - got high pitching noise when my GPU fan started, then downgraded to .10 and .09 - got the same noise. When I had .08 bios there was no noise at all.

The .08 FTP is not working :( Does anybody have the saved zip-file with .08 bios? Pahleeez sayv mii!!!

EDIT: nevermind..you got the package. It should work just fine.. make sure you're using the appropriate version, 32 or 64bit. :)

By the way Q9100 does not work on any BIOS including 9c.12 and including 7811 and 7805. So none of these computers will take a quad core CPU.

Still no IMV-030.zip (non-windows bios installer)
    Can't find, here or elsewhere.

I did get a copy of 7811-bioses.zip, which contains IMV-030W. But it doesn't work, just errors with
    Driver (WDM) init fail!

    Thanks all,

What's the issue with it, again? WDM error? I think I asked previously, are you using the proper version? i.e. - 32bit or 64bit? I never flashed that one - but many others have. Download it again, maybe it was a corrupt file?

Even back a couple months ago I could not use the 028 winstaller, and had no probs with using a usbkey and reboot installer.

Hmm.. Dunno what to tell you. No one has reported any errors with the installers. I'd recommend the USB Flash again, seeing as this isn't working for you. Only other thought I have, make sure you're running it as Administrator, from Administrator account. A guest account may not work. But, I didn't program them, so I couldn't tell ya. The DOS flash is always a sure bet though. Best of luck, lemme know when you figure it out.
