This definitely should be stickied. I'm not setting up a raid, so is it worth it upgrading my bios? If so, what version should I get?
-
What version you running? 9c.10 and 9c.12.00 seem to have great feedback
This has several BIOSes as a package

Oie.. look, it got stickied.

Updated OP - Added the Variety Pack for BIOS downloads -
I'm running 9c.08.00. Should I go to 9c.10.00?
-
If it's working fine just leave it.
-
Maybe that's a good idea. For now, anyway. I can't afford to create too many computer problems right now.
-
I like the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" concept, too.
So, is 9c.11.00 OK?
I've not had any problems and that's what my P-7805u (built 19 Nov 08) came with. -
The 9c.11.00 BIOS is fine.. you can upgrade to .12 if you like, the feedback says fans run a bit more with .12 - which means temps should be a little cooler. But, it's your call
gamadaya; I'd recommend upgrading to .10 or .12 - your call though. -
btw... i like the .12 bios more and also last thing i want to add is that the Gateway Escalated Contact Number is no longer valid
you've to go through the "nub" level techs again
-
oh..that's harsh - well ask the noobs for the escalated support line - corporate HQ number
-
OK, I'm slightly confused -
where is the download for 9c.12.00?
The first page of the thread only goes through .10.
Can you edit the OP to include the newer versions (.11 & .12) since it mainly discusses .08 but then has an edit for .09 and .10?
Thanks in advance. -
It's the Driver variety pack download.. Just under the other BIOSes.
-
You mean the one that says this:
"BIOS Variety Pack Download Here - This is a .zip containing versions 9c.05 thru 9c.12.00 - just to make life easier."
Doh!
-
E... just called up gateway... they said the number doesnt exist anymore... go figure.. will be trying again HAHAHA just for the heck of it
-
they don't have a corporate HQ? Sure they do.. Try calling Acer instead.
Here's Gways contact page:
http://www.gateway.com/about/contactus/index.php
Try calling all of em and see which works best. I'll see if I can find Acers HQ # -
tried calling at least 3 different numbers... most of the replies were "huh?" they dont even know that the escalated problem number existed lol
-
email "[email protected]" believe it or not, they reply pretty quickly, and are the ones who gave me the escalated support number. maybe they will have a new number
-
Anyone have 9c.11.00 for the P-7805u? I don't see it in the zip. I upgraded to 9c.12.00. After it was done, Windows found new sound drivers and reinstalled them again. now my sound/mic doesn't recognize when I plug in my headphones/mic on the side. Also the Mic on my Camera stopped... Tried deleting the sound devices, reinstall the drivers, etc. Still happened. I had a second drive so I setup the raid and reinstalled Windows with the Gateway restore disc. Still the same problem. None of this occured until I updated the bios. Any ideas?
-
yep happens to everyone that upgrades bios to .12... just download the driver from the website and upgrade the bottom sound device driver with "have disk" method
-
Yah I figured out it was the MS driver that was getting loaded and not the Conexant. Manually installed it and now it is working again.
-
Any news on v.17? Maybe enabling the Q9100?
-
No word as of yet. I'll post as soon as I hear anything.
-
I need help with the sound driver installation after updating to Bios 12. Mic will not work. I tried installing Conexant audio driver but keep getting the error message "MEDIA device not found". Window sound driver was installed automatically upon restarting. Thanks in advance.
-
I installed the device fom the list of available devices. you need to show all then go to conextant and select the high def 221 drivers. it will tell you not too as it isn't compatible but do it anyway.
-
E-wrecked:What about the PB bios from the other thread? Any more info on that? I may be able to get access to a q9100 and would be willing to try it in my gateway if I could get a hold of the bios. Any chance you could send me a link to it?
-
I'll have to ask around. Jakamo5 may still have it. That's probably the only place to get it. The FTP login account was disabled so can't pull it from Wistron. PM jan and ask if he's got it
-
I look up the device list and no conexant including hidden devices. I uninstall the generic MS driver for audio and install the conexant driver from gateway site but that still does not work. Must be having a blond moment. If you can give me detailed instruction, I'd very much appreciate it.
-
1.) Open device manager
2.) Highlight and double click the "High Deifinition Audio" driver.
3.) select the driver tab
4.) Hit the update driver button
5.) Select browse my computer
6.) use select from list
7.) unslect show compatible hardware
8.) under manufacturer find and select conexant
9.) select under model "Smart Hi Definition Audio 221"
10.) select next.
11.) the system will say it can't use the driver as it doesn't see the hardware just tell it to do so anyway..............
EDIT: this is all assuming that 9c.12.00 just changed you from the proper drivers and the original drivers are still on your system........... -
It worked. Finally. Thank you very very much!
-
I am going to try on a Q9100 if the .17 bios is up... looks promising in fixing up the TZS0 spikes... i'm pumped for the bios
-
I just went with the P9600. I might after some time go with a quad but I'd like to see faster chips with lower TPD's along with cheaper prices and greater availability. These all go hand in hand with waiting............
-
That fixed this for me to... Thank you so much...
-
My pleasure guys.............
-
Your post helped me too, TANWare, thx! + rep

One odd thing, after the bios update, every time the fan spin up, I hear a high pitch noise coming out from the fan. This did not happen with bios 9.08 but is apparent with bios 9.10 and 9.12. Anyone else with the same problem? Is this something fixable with a little WD40?
-
I don't seem to have it here, P7805u. Which fan though the CPU or GPU?
-
I can't tell which fan. I am not using any GPU intensive apps so I am guessing it's the CPU fan. It will occur every 30 seconds or so. Quite annoying.
-
is the sound towards the right rear or the left side towards the back?
-
Toward the left side near the back.
-
then it is the GPU fan. I would reload your video driver and nVidia system tools. be sure the system when at desktop only gets the GPU clock down to 168Mhz...........
-
Does anyone know how to get the microphone on the built in webcam to work after upgrading to the 9c.12.00 bios on the 7805u? I reinstalled the conexant drivers from the gateway website and the webcam software, but the microphone on the webcam still will not show up in the recording devices in the sound control panel. Argh.
-
Did you try my method posted here earlier?
-
Yes. The drivers for the Smart Audio 221 have installed fine and show up in the device manager. However, the microphone for the webcam is missing from the recording tab in the Sound section of the control panel. I'll mess around with it more and see what happens. I'll check the list of available drivers in the driver list and if there's more than one instance of the Smart Audio 221 i'll try them both.
-
You should have only one, if there are two, list just as microphone, try disabling the active one. if only one and it is not working, right click an select show inactive and then once there are two there disable the active one.........
-
Just a heads up.. if anyone wants to test their TZS0 - I'm selling my x9100 - see sig.
-
LOL, that would do it too.......... I've had my P7805u to 72C TZS0 and TZS1 so it appears that is not an issue here.....
-
I doubt Gateway wants to give up a bios that would put Quads in before their own release but did you hear anything yet about getting the 9c.17.00 for us E-Wrecked?
-
Nope.. she hasn't replied to me in 3 emails.. Quite unusual. I noticed the person testing the BIOS wasn't maggie.. maybe she got moved, or isn't handling this BIOS? Not entirely sure. I'll look into it right now. Gonna FTP dive.
-
Thanks, It would be nice if they would just do official releases...............
-
No kiddin eh? Well.. did some digging. I did find the Packard Bell BIOS - someone had asked me about that a while back. I'll have to find out who. Also, found some other stuff I'd like to look into. Some tests completed very recently..
