Thanks to the power of the internet, it may well be only a matter of time til someone leaks a workable bios, or buys a 7808 and share-

He doesn't really say that he has the 7808, only that he's thinking about getting it-

If he does, maybe he can take a pic (and measurement) of the 7808 HS as well-

Yea, personally, I would ALWAYS buy laptops from a manufacturer who was known for selling "upgradeable" models. ie, they had easy access to the CPU, RAM(more than 2 slots please), 2 SATA is nice, the free mini pcie, AND use possibly upgradeable GPUs using MMC. Make this a separate line of notebooks and sell them at a 10% markup over an identical one of their other lineups. Then sell me warranty service even for what I upgrade and I'd stay with them forever.

Sorry it took so long for me to answer this. The manufacture date is 03/04/09.

Also, I have not had the chance to measure the copper portion of the heatsink yet.

Hi, Anyone got sound card problem after upgrading to 9c.12.00? After I upgraded my vista 64 can not recognize the conexant sound card and it uses its default driver which is high def audio driver and it doesn't work as it should. When I plug in the headset the output still goes to the laptop speaker.

I had this problem before with 9c.09 BIOS and I fixed it by reinstalling the sound card driver that came with the recovery. However when I try to reinstall the driver (P-7800_AUDIO_CONEXANT_8.7.0.1007_64BIT) now it says
"ERROR Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver."

    Any ideas?

I saw someone has .17 BIOS. Does upgrading to it fix the problem?

I've got the 9C.17.00 BIOS but it came on my machine-purchased in Feb. So I really can't tell you if it is the bios but I can tell you that I don't have any problems with mine.

Will upgrading my BIOS on my p7805u to the latest one posted on this thread allow me to OC my CPU through Bios options?

Thanks.. I searched this thread and saw the solution. I had to manually install the driver from "have disk" option and now it works fine.

Short answer-NO. The 7805 does not have the ability to overclock yet, even with procs that are built for OCing. So, maybe one day, but I don't think so. We're all trying to see if we can get a Quad core to work in one. I installed one about three weeks ago and nothing so we're waiting on a BIOS for that. Hope that helped some......

Yes, thank you so much. It kind of took a weight off my shoulders... When one day it becomes OC'able, I'll do it. For now heavy CPU guzzling games like GTAIV are very smooth at very good temps so I'll be contempt for now :).

so one more quick question about Raid 1 on my p-7811 FX. If I remove both my drives and replace it with the factory default single drive it came with and later I want to swap my other drives back in for raid 1, could I do that without messing anything up?

If you want to run your hard drive controller in AHCI mode, then you need this driver. If you are happy running your controller in legacy mode, then you don't need this driver. In theory, AHCI gives some performance benefits, but in the real world, I don't think it matters much for notebooks.

I'm going to ship my laptop out tomorrow to be fixed but I've never took out two raid 1 drives before (I need to put back the old drive) will that mess my raid up when I get the laptop back and I reinsert the raid 1 drives?

As a Linux user, I can't use the Windows BIOS updater, and so I've only been able to update to the .10 version. Unfortunately, it seems like my GPU is overheating when I use my 7801u in my lap (after all, it is a _laptop_...) and from what I've read it seems like the .12 bios runs the GPU cooler...

I have no MS Windows installed on the system, and at least right now I don't have a second HDD to do a system restore onto just to update my BIOS...

Any DOS BIOS versions to install would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks in advance!

Ah, less than a month in the forums and less than 100 posts and trying to bring down the, "stay on topic hammer.." ;)

    Funny. :D

As for the BIOS, users have been chasing it since September with their 7805's. I still contend it is more than just a BIOS revision and is a MB revision too and even with the new BIOS, some 78XX owners (or all sans 7808u and future Quad users) are going to be sad puppies when they still don't work.

They could also be lying- some of them wont let you return the cpu, so they dont have to guarantee that it works.

Hmmm. But the 7808 has a Quad Q9000 which should upgrade to any Quad that's compatible with the chipset, Right? And maybe we could put a Q9000 in the 7805. No one has tried yet. I tried the Q9100 so it's someone elses turn to fork over some dough. :p But I'll try to find one cheap and maybe, just maybe buy it and see. Chatted with Gateway about this again today-USELESS again. Still say go to Intel and download updated Chipset BIOS. Really? OK!!!! WOW. It works now! Yeah Right! So aggravating. Anyway........Maybe one day.

    hi,

every time I try to download a bios file from this link:
    ftp://MilkaPM:[email protected]/IMV-026.zip

    or this one:

    ftp://ftp.wistron.com.tw/MI1/SW/Firmware/BIOS/IMV-026.zip

it just doesn't allow me. it asks for password and username

    I type "MilkaPM" and "Belem8217"

    but nothing.

all I need is a few of the DOS Bioses. I wan to try the backup as well. I have 9c.17 bios and want to share it. I also have a 7811fx with bios 9c.12 and I want to try with this one first so that I don't lose the xx.17 accidentally.

please someone help me. please someone post a valid link to the DOS Bios file.

    thank you
