AFAIK, these units will not allow you to run mobile quad core CPUs. As well as you can only overclock the CPU if it's an 'X' series CPU, as in X9100. I've found that BIOS 9C.08.00 is probably the best, regardless your GPU fan will still pulse, but your audio ports will at least work properly as well as you'll still have RAID suport.

If you ran the executable and heard the fans spin up at 100% and then the computer rebooted normally and you were able to log back into windows with everything working properly, than it can be safe to assume that the BIOS was updated. If you run the program again, except, don't allow it to flash, it'll tell you your current BIOS setting. As well as I think you can use CPU-Z, which you can download from www.cpuid.com.

I have 1 question, I have 7811FX and I have never gotten interested in upgraded the Bios. My computer still freezes when ever I play a Unreal 3 Engine game, but it usually takes 1 hr or so before that happens.

So here is my question, does any of this bios help to solve the video card problem? If so which one is the best for a 7811FX? Thank for the help and if I need to give more info plz just tell me so I can receive a better answer.

The BIOS probably isnt the issue here. I'd try a couple different GPU drivers to see if that might help, but my feeling is that its a heat issue.

Make sure you have a good notebook cooler, and take some compressed air and blow out the vents. if the combination of the new drivers and that stuff doesn't help, then you might look into replacing the thermal compound on the GPU.

I found a way to back up the 9c.17.00 bios for those of you who have it so that others may be able to use it.

    1. Download and install RW-Everything (Freeware).
    Download link: http://download.cnet.com/RW-Read-Write/3000-2383_4-10538115.html
    Removed by moderator

    2. Run RW-Everything and choose "Access" from the menu bar. From the drop down menu, choose "Memory"

    3. Enter the starting address of "FFE00000" without the quotation marks and press the "ok" button

    4. Press the keys "shift"+"f2" (keyboard shortcut) or the 2nd toolbar button from the left (save as binary).

    5. In the length field, enter "200000" and make sure the starting field is "FFE00000" and the ending field is "FFFFFFFF".

    6. Save it and make sure the saved file is exactly 2097152 bytes.

This is the backup image of your bios. Upload it so that I can see if I can somehow incorporate this into the bios update file (W64IMV30.exe). It would be great if more than one member could upload their backup of the 9c.17.00 bios for comparison.

Nah it looked like the site owner was a bit shady. I think it was an honest mistake :p

No worries, we took care of it and edited it all so its now safe... just be sure to run an AV scan on your computer. I probably would have caught it sooner, but i have a bad problem running around online under linux... i mostly dont notice alot of things due to by default linux is immune to them. I'm now running Win7 again so i can better suffer with everyone else :p

I don't know about a bootable iso but I can replace the 9c.12.00 BIOS image found in the W64IMV30.exe ( or W32IMV30.exe ) with the 9c.17.00 BIOS image. I don't know whether it will work or not but I think the bigger hurdle is finding someone who will be brave enough to test it as it may render your notebook useless.

In the event the BIOS flash does go bad, there may be a way to recover it using a Phoenix BIOS Recovery Crisis Disc. You will need a usb floppy drive or a usb flash drive. Again, I do not know whether it can be recovered using this method.

If it is not recoverable, you will need to have the BIOS chip reprogrammed or replaced if it is removable. If it is not removable, you will need to send your notebook to Gateway for repairs or RMA, if you still have warranty.

With that being said, ANY BRAVE SOULS OUT THERE?

i think before anyone starts trying to flash anything you should wait until at least the person who dumped the bios dumps it a couple of times and compares each dump to one another and get another person to do the same that way we comfirm that the bios dump is the same between two users and the same no matter how many times its dumped.

sry i dont know where else to host it other then megaupload but heres my dump of my 9c.17.00 bios i dumped it twice and check the sha-1 of both files and they both gave this
    SHA-1 Hash: 8C07654A1C3E4FB7372484F88562A7B3713830FC

    anyway heres a download link
hxxp://www.megaupload.com/?d=JDOY5BZS (replace the xx in hxxp with t so it reads http)

There MAY be a way to flash the 9c.17.00 BIOS image on a Vista x64 or Vista x32. Are you willing to be the first person to try it?

Technet subscriber, gets released August 6th. It was cheaper for me to get a technet subscription then to get a copy for all my computers, plus the getting Win7 early is sorta a nice perk.

I'll just say this again for those who might have missed it. If you're running the P-7811FX, I'd advise you to stick with 9C.08.00. Reason being, anything beyond that, you'll have hardware issues such as the mic/headphone jack not working properly. As well as the only benefit I see you getting is the GPU fan not pulsing. Oh well, it'll still work though.

    Just my $0.02

    I've never had a problem with v12 or v17.

So has anyone tried to flash one of the v17 dumps yet? The two that have been posted look identical to me. It's easy to flash in DOS, just use a bootable memory stick. Can PHLASH16.EXE directly flash one of these .BIN dumps?

I have a problem with the headphone jack. If I pull my headphones out, it will pause flash videos that are playing, and won't restart them until I restart my browser. Or alternatively it won't recognize when I plug them back in under certain circumstances I have yet to determine. I would never have guessed in a million years that it could be a bios problem (doesn't affect anything but flash videos). I have either .08 or .10, I honestly can't remember. So, if it ever gets to annoying, I'll change my bios and see if it goes away.

I just changed the file to have an extension of .wph and loaded it up. To get it to compile, just change a random value then change it back and the compile button won't be grayed out anymore.

    Already tried that, no luck.

This might be why you can't flash the dump Houndx:

    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=75028&postcount=7

So it sounds like we will not be able to use these .17 dumps.

On a side note has anyone been able to get any of the official BIOS wph files to load in PBE? I get an invalid size error every time?

I was able to decompress both 9c.17.00 BIOS dumps in PBE.

The platform data is contained in the (for example, W64IMV30.EXE ). My train of thought is to replace the BIOS image found in the executable with the 9c.17.00 BIOS image then execute it to flash it.

Is there a way to extract 9C.12.00 from the windows flash exe? Decompiliing that in PBE would give us access to the missing pieces.

Also, a safer way to look for problems in the rom. Get Winphlash64(or swinflash for 32 bit), and perform a backup only. The flash program requires you to point to a new rom even for performing a backup and will throw an exception if the new rom file isn't valid.

Been reading this thread for some time now. Wow! .8, .11, .12, .17 just to mention a few. However, I have yet to read any real tangible benefits to upgrading the BIOS now that the Quad support has been put to rest. That is unless some of your components are not working and your drivers are up to date. Or am I missing something?

I do plan to upgrade to a T9900 or P9700 when the price performance curve improves. Eventually I may put a 1900x1200 LCD in this baby though I'm not a hardcore gamer.

So I guess the real question is this; Is there really any compelling reason for me to flash.......The BIOS I'm talking about. Shame on all of you! :D
