Hello
I look for the utility " WFlash " for gateway serial P-78 or packardbell ipower gx-m , the version in 1.06.xx
Thank you . Sorry for my english !!!! I am french
thank -
I just flashed to 9c.17, and there is a serious problem. Whenever the GPU fan engages, there is a high pitched ping noise. Is there any way to make this go away. It's OK if I have headphones on and am listening to something, but it pisses off everyone else in the room.
-
I have another question, unrelated to my above post. I saw a few pages back there was some discussion about getting the bios.rom file of 9c.17 to open in PBE. How did that work out? I still get the no bcps error.
-
It's not really a problem, that's just how the BIOS setting is for the GPU fan. I'm using 9C.08.00. Seems to work the best overall for me as well as the GPU fan doesn't engage and give that high pitched ping noise as you mentioned in your post.
-
Yeah, I know it's not dangerous or anything, but it still is annoying.
-
For opening the 9C.17 bios in PBE, you need the last version of PBE 2.2.1.3.
-
Oh, Ok. I don't have that version.

Hi there...
I'm new to the forum, but not new to the P-7811 FX. I bought mine in the fall of 2008 (I believe September) and after taking two different laptops back to Best Buy, I finally am on my third and it has worked ever since (at least no blue screening like the old ones did).
It is a serial number that is along the lines of "P2888 010 054XX" so it is one of the "new" ones I believe.
However, whenever I played Aion, it would shut down 5-10 minutes - same problem a lot of you have had.
Anyways... I have since upgraded to Windows 7 - full reformat - and I want to know what is the latest FULLY working and operational (no bugs) BIOS that I can upgrade to even with Windows 7. I have never upgraded a BIOS, but I did make a back-up disk a few days ago (would this help if something went wrong with a BIOS update?).
I know this has probably been covered in the last 142 pages, but - and forgive me - I have a 5-month old daughter who doesn't give dear 'ole dad a lot of time for research. I found this thread and said, "Thank God" someone is talking about their experiences with the blackouts...
Can someone please catch me up on where we're at, if you're running Windows 7, and what is currently working for you.
Thank you so much, you guys seem like a good group...
-RC
P.S. I forgot to add that I'm running the stock drivers and BIOS. Unless Windows 7 updated some things for me, I have not gotten to that point yet... any other good driver update recommendations would be helpful.

All other hardware is still stock... can we upgrade the RAM past 4 gigs and the CPU up a notch or two? -
lets see...
the newest bios is 9c.17
yes, you can upgrade the ram up to 8gb (not really necessary and still expensive)
the best cpu's for this lappy are the x9100 or the t9900 both @ 3.06 and cannot be overclocked.
as to the windows 7 questions, ill leave those for someone who has upgraded =P
enjoy your 7811. -
Wow! No way... 3.06 ghz in the 7811 ?!?!?!
So... how does one go about this? Do I just unscrew the bottom and just plug and play there ya go or do I need drivers for the CPU then?
Wow... I cannot believe that. The 7811 still runs stable with a 3.06 and doesn't overheat? What series and models work with the motherboard?
Please give me details. The only thing I have done is put in a Seagate 500gb internal to this thing, which was pretty easy. I ran Belarc Advisor and it says things have been good, so all is well.
Also, we only have two RAM slots right? So, we would have to get 4gb memory modules?
Thanks,
RC
Are there any benchmarks as to how the 7811 runs with a faster processor? I know the 2.26 is a little on the slow end now. -
I don't mean to be asking so many questions, but this is great!
What other things (tweaks and mods) have people done to the 7811? I'm very curious... is there better software to run, better hardware to install, any stable overclocking that can be done?
Man... this is awesome. I had no idea there was a whole community that loves the 7811 as much as I do.
Also, does the newest BIOS fix the blackout problems people (including myself) were experiencing?
Thanks guys,
RC -
I've had my 7811fx since November of '08 and been very satisfied with it. I've still got the BIOS ver. 9C.08.00 installed, along with the orig RAM and processor. I haven't ever overclocked the 9800 GPU. I have upgraded the hard drive by installing a pair of 300 Gig drives in RAID0.
I'm looking to upgrade the processor to either the x9100 or T9900. I'm a little confused about some of the posts that I've seen here, though. Both of these processors are available on Ebay. The x9100 is about $135 less expensive than the T9900, and appears to have a lower temp rating than the T9900.
I've seen some posts here that seem to indicate that the 9900 runs cooler? Is this true? -
Yes, the T9900 has a max TDP of 35 watts, the X9100 is 45 Watts, so the T9900 runs cooler. Although i have my x9100 undervolted and runs at the same temperature if not more cooler than a T9900 not undervolted
-
Thanks for the response. Looks like I will go with an X9100. How did you get your 9800 video card up to 1 Gig of memory, and is that dedicated memory? Mine shipped with 512 Megs, plus shared.
-
My p-7805u came with 1 gig of Vram and is dedicated. I think the older models had the 9800m GTS with 512mb of Vram.
-
I just got my laptop back from Gateway and I discovered that they had updated the BIOS to 9C.20.00. I don't know what they changed...
-
Really? thats interesting. Any new options in the bios?
-
copy 9c.20.00 for download in this forum?
-
The bios is on the motherboard. You can extract it with various utils and put it up for DL. Personally I'll wait for the release of it as I did with 9c.17.00
-
I have a question regarding the 9c.17 bios from earlier in this thread.
There are 4 files when extracted:
Flash64 (system file)
Setting (configuration settings)
WFlash (DAT file)
IMV-3564 (WFlash Utility x64)
I have flashed desktop bioses using DOS and AFUDOS, but never a laptop. Do I assume you can update from within windows by double-clicking the WFlash Utility?
Can someone please clarify the necessary steps as I don't want to fry my P-7811FX. -
Bios 9c.20.00 available here:
ftp://esupport:[email protected]/pub/hardware_support/drivers/notebook/P78/ -
Weird, with Win7 HP it will not flash as I get a WDM fail 0x137 error.........
-
same here, cant flash with win 7. I´m still using the 9c.10.00, does anyone knowe wether the constant running fan on the right rear after wake from sleepmode problem has been fixed in any of the succeding versions after the 9c.10.00?
-
Just to let everyone know as I was asked, as far as I can tell, I did not see any differences in options as compared to the previous versions of the BIOS.
I wish there was a change log somewhere... -
How do I switch from BIOS 9c.17.00 back to 9c.08.00 ? Can I just run flash bios utility to downgrade?
(note: I have 9c.08.00 on hand) -
I've swapped from 17 to 10 to 12 respectively and back to 17 using the BIOS pack from this thread.
-
I guess I'll repost my link to the BIOS update I got working in this thread in case anybody didn't look in the other one and because it belongs here. Doesn't seem worth doing because of the increased idle GPU temps, everyone seems to see around +10~30C average. All I did to get them working was add a couple files that were missing in it from previous BIOS updates.

Yes, you can run the flash bios to downgrade.
-
thats what I need, Thanks!
-
Anyone know why i get the weird ""Driver (WDM) init fail! (0x137)"" from the bios pack on this thread.
-
whats "new" in 9c.17.00 bios, does anybody know?
-
So you can plug and play this processor into the p-7805u? Nevermind. I combined a few posts to come to that conclusion. Anyway, is it possible to upgrade the p7805u besides hard drive and ram?
-
I get this same problem. If you answer you'll help a lot of people.
-
Will this BIOS work on a P6860?
Thanks
Robert -
NO!!!!!! different systems..........
-
Will this BIOS 9c.20.00 work on a P-7811FX?
Thanks -
I tried to upgrade to 9C.20.00 but I have an error
m_RomDBCtrl init fail!(0x385)
Does anybody know what to do?
Regards -
quoted because I'm curious too before I decide whether or not to install it
edit: and updated since from what I can tell it's actually 9c.20.00 that's nww -
I have this same issue and Gateway Support is of no help, even though I am still under warranty.
-
Were you guys with the m_RomDBCtrl error using the 9C.20 BIOS I uploaded to MegaUpload? Using that fixed the problem for most people with the error I think, it's because Gateway was missing a file or two. As always I don't recommend using 9C.20 though...
-
Hi, could you please be more specific? Why you don't recomand 9C.20 ?
I have downgraded from 9c.17.00 to 9c.12.00 just because from time to time I have BSOD in Windows 7 Home Professional- x64 , dont know why, I just want to try also 9C.20
Regards -
did you clean your vents inside?, and apply Arctic compound to cpu? it will solve your problem
-
I have an X9000 in my 7811, and didn't see the option to overclock at all. Where should I be looking?
-
if i recall correctly, overclocking is done via setfsb, not via bios.
-
Which one is the best then?
-
Like a few others have asked already but does anyone know what the new 9C.20.00 firmware? I'm trying to holdoff before we flashing it on our laptops.
