and we have a winner. 98c's
-
WOOT! Congrats! And the down throttle begins
-
yeah. has nothing to do with the cpu either..... the max temp was 63c's
edit: have you tried 32 bit yet? -
Not yet.. booted it, tried using it to flash. That's bout it. TZS0, the mystery sensor.
UPDATE: BIOS Version 9c.09.00 and 9c.10.00 are both available for download on the original post. However, these are not supported by Gateway yet.. and I am not responsible for your endeavors. But, feel free to toy around if you like.. I'm currently running 9c.10.00

So, john..what you think of the new rig? Does it remind you of anything? Maybe your last 2 computers?
It's a sweet system tho, eh? Smokes the 6860
-
What's the *.10 BIOS got that's warm and fuzzy?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

Eh..doesn't seem to be too warm and fuzzy. Actually, I can't tell any true difference, except the CPU seems to run about 5-6 degrees cooler..and TZS0 and TZS1 are about the same as before. I know they were coding different temp zone settings in the BIOS, based on the notes I posted to the OP. AND this one supports quad core, which I will hopefully be picking up within the next month or so.. I want the QX9300
I sent the coders and email friday evening, and am assuming she'll get back to me Monday. She was a quick responder this last time. But, I am attempting to get them to provide me a BIOS with an unlocked multiplier for the CPU. Or, info on how to acquire the compiler they used so I can edit my own. *crossing fingers* Can't hurt to ask, right?
-
It never hurts to ask! Any idea what the QX9300 will cost when it's released? I might want to try one too.
-
It seems there are a couple retailers that have it for sale, but not available yet.. and around $1100-1400 depending on how much money they're trying to make off of you. Of course, the more bulk they buy..the cheaper the CPU to resale. So, I'm expecting to spend closer to the $1000 mark if I get lucky.
Looks like an x9100 will be up for sale.
-
yep, this one actually runs great.
we don't even need a compiler... just need them to add the frequency, cpu speed & multiplier stings to the menu. up to 3.6 max. (depending on cpu)
retail 1k +
es version about 600 to 800 then drop about a month or two after that. (speculation of course) -
did you toss the x9k in there yet john? and if so hows it performing.
-
Very interested in what the 2 new versions do. If all they do is lower temps I am all for it.
-
USB KEY install worked perfectly for 028 !! Thanks E-wrecked.
26 no-go.
I have the stock P7811-FX from BestBuy, purchased Aug. 31 during the sale.
All is well for 24 hours. Fans crank up more often, which is a good thing. HDD temp still in the mid 50's during load.
The Doctor -
yep, tossed it in today. and it's running like a champ.
-
Glad to hear as it makes me want to snag one soonish for a decent price and wait to see what happens with the quads down the road.
-
-
I am sure someone has addressed this already but I am slow so please hang in there with me, can I flash the new bios with the 64 bit version on windows or do I have to do the 32 bit version. What software do I need to flash it, for whatever version I need.
-
IMV-026W.zip contains the windows flash program and files >
go to the 64 folder >
extract the folder to desktop >
run IMV-026W.exe
it contains the proper file and flashes automatically
>>> Grab your crotch and hang on! <<<
While flashing turn off ...
The Dark Knight Rip
All P*rn downloads
Etc.
-
so...umm...when you throw a quad in your laptops, would you be willing to test it in your 6860 as well??
if that doesnt work, just PM me a price for the x9000 -
lol..nice...
john, nice score.. Hows the CPU working out? Any issues with TZS0? Or did you get that resolved? -
Got it, flash done and now have a raid option, Thanks a ton.
-
FSB 1066 may pose a problem. Likely no Quad Core for us.
Clock speed trumps quad core in games, so that x9000 is likely the better choice. -
the tzs0 issue is still lerking, just not as bad. but when i run normal or 50 percent over clocks. it still runs fine....it's only with extreme over clocking that it starts to act silly.
a quad wont work in a 6860...unless they make the quad backward compatible.(fsb=1333/1066/800) i tried the 2.26 in the 6860 and it didn't work. -
darn...
just PM me a price on that x9000 when you decide to sell then. -
I've read the forums, but I'm not at all sure I have seen this answered:
Does enabling RAID require a complete re-install of the OS?
Thanks,
m -
yup, sure does.
its recommended though that you make a backup of your system drivers and applications using the gateway recovery center -
Well, some have been able to image the OS and restore/clone to RAID. If your BIOS is set to AHCI then image with Acronis. Set up RAID and restore. Chances are good your 7811 was set to AHCI from the start.
Those with 6860 were not so lucky and would have had to change over to AHCI from IDE/compatibility in order to make it work. -
yep. chance are very good indeed!
-
Careful with this solution - I tried it but my Acronis clone will not boot. Unfortunately I didn't test it before removing the disk from the computer to go RAID, and so can't say if there's an actual problem with the image or whether the SATA/USB cable solution I'm using to access the drive is at fault. I've been able to access all my files on the clone drive and copy them over by hand, so there's no major corruption, but it just will not boot, not even in Safe Mode, so I had to re-install Vista anyway.
YMMV. -
so your still having heat problems as well? im getting a thermal pad this werk sometime, ill let u know how it goes.
-
nah, not really heat problems..but tzs0 issues as E suggested. the cpu and gpu never go above mid 70's on serious over clocks, just that dammn tzs0.
i know you got an old laptop laying around...just take it apart and jack the thermal pads out of it. *lol* like i did. -
aha the thing is i dont....seriously..i was just going to buy a apck of 5 for $5 but i cannot ifnd em anywehre
-
Arby's is offering 5 for $5.
-
Have you tried undervolting yet john ? and also are there any clock adjustments to be made in this bios or were they completely removed ? i was thinking E didnt have access to them because his chip was already at the 3.0 ghz as where yours starts at 2.8 .
-
LOL brought up visions of melted cheese on the NB.
Here is on one ebay Probalby too thin.
Here are more -
yeah, do that from ebay. get the 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm. i was looking all over myself, till i remembered i had a bunch of taken apart laptop sitting around.
yes sir. undervolted to what's in my sig. and no over clocking. im running at 2.8 ghz. just pulled a 11,115 with E's over clock on 3d mark last night before bed.

Are you still having the TZS0 problems after undervolting iRC E said he had 0 problems once undervolted with the TZ .
-
no problems with that sensor if your running a respectable over clock.
-
unless you have an x9100..
it trips the sensor with no OC on this newer model. Didn't do that with the older ones..
I posted this link for narsnail a few days ago.. Im from the US and I don't use metric measurements..I use standard inches and such. Would these be ample for the northbridge chip on the 7811FX? ATI Silencer thermal pads..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-Silencer-2-...46322QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
I'd like to replace mine. -
Some of the pads i came across when i was trying to find one for my 6860 were to **** thick basically like a small sponge
.
-
So.....
Is it worth it to buy 2 7200rpm 320 drives or should I just get another of the seagate 200 drives that the lappy came with? I'm using external storage so strictly from a performance standpoint is it worth it for the extra 100 bucks or so? -
matched drive
-
I know this mang..
2x 200 (only need to buy 1 drive)
or 2 x 320 (need to purchase 2 drives) -
my bad, matched drive meaning just buy the other 200 gig seagate.
-
7200rpm drives in RAID 0 should = some intense PCmark and HD Tune scores. Please post screenshots when you have this set up.
-
Everyone keeps saying how great RAID is..and that was the big thing about this BIOS. Hell, that's why I bought the 2 scorpios, but when I went RAID I had issues. Streaming video skipped intermitently, program windows didnt flow smoothely when minimizing and maximizing. My hard drives made clicking noises.. Hmm.. Maybe I need to give it another try, and start from scratch.. 64kb stripes instead of 128kb. I just don't think I did something right. I need a "How-to RAID for Dummies" book or something.. Guess that gives me something to do tonight after I get home..
oh, and gonna check my email to see if Wistron emailed me back about the BIOS tweaks. C'mon overclocking!
-
-
im running 16kb stippes with no issues.
and on another note. it's on in the 9800m gts beats 8800m gtx thread...*LOL*

LOL! I love it!
My first published work.. Very impressive.
john; I threw in my 2 cents.. they just don't know, do they?!
