Just a quick query; how do you run the Crysis Warhead benchmark, or is this just the original Crysis? I'll continue to search while awaiting a reply.
....and thanks in advance, -
you download it off 3dguru, run it and then point it to the warhead.exe or what ever it is called and thats it

BIOS update real quick.. Emailed Chris from Gateway, and waiting for a response.. I buttered him up a bit, but he deserved the pat on the back for originally resolving this issue. Also emailed BIOSMAN about an update on the status of 9c.08.00 and also 94.28. Finally, emailed Margaret from Wistron to try and get her mind back in the game with me..and provide further assistance. I'll keep y'all posted.
-
always! great job my man...great job!
side note: sli gtx's are not better than sli gt's. lol. per mastamarek. waiting on the full results. -
Oh really?
Good to know.. but maybe it's the lack of quality drivers
-
very well could be. definitely wouldn't rule it out. considering look how much the 8800m gtx's rose since when they first came out.
-
i have a .wph of 94.29 if you want to send that to biosman as well. i dont think a lot of us would want to downgrade our bios' if we already have 94.29.
-
post it for public download, I'll snag it real quick.
-
can biosman read a backed up copy of the bios E??
-
didnt expect such a rapid response. but d a m n. here ya go. sorry 'bout the slow response, i got wrapped up in work crap.

OK..downloading. Sorry, been installing XP. And..no sound, yet. Just got Wifi going.
Anyhow, Im downloading.. Gimme a bit..I'll let ya know what's up.
-
Hey E, let me know how you got sound working. I want to *attempt* at least to make a slipstreamed XP install.
-
Woot.. mad props to rancid and fire268.. Destruya, here's the 2 threads that made everything work flawlessly. Just follow the instructions, one step at a time.
Slipstream XP32bit Walthrough
The Audio was a little tricky..not really though. I just skipped a step, and was looking at my computer like *it* had the problem.
rancid's audio for XP32 - one tweak.. he mentions making the .bat file with notepad..make sure you save it "audiostart.bat" so it *is* a .bat file, not a .bat.txt file..and place it in the i86 folder created by devcon.exe install.
Make sure to show some love and +rep these folks
-
john..not sure. Were you gonna offer the 94.29? Oh, installing XP was a breeze. Bout to start doing some benchies. I ran one last night, before all drivers were updated..TZS0 spiked, of course. I scored 7441 on the first run! No OC of course.. LOL! I dunno what happened, I guess something wasn't running properly. Im gonna use ol faithful 177.85, and see how I rank now. I'll let ya know. And Im waiting to hear back from BIOSMAN, I emailed him 2 times yesterday..maybe I just annoyed him
Anyhow, Im gonna download NHC, since I should be able to use it now. Lets get this baby rockin!
EDIT: I dislike XP. No explanation needed.. just not a fan, anymore. Hello Vista, thank you for taking me back
-
Just a quick update..got shot down, again, by Wistron for assisting end-user. BIOSMAN must be taking some time to himself..as he, or his CFO Stacy have not replied in the past two days. However, I'm still workin Chirs with Gateway to see if he'd be willing to send an email to get the BIOS unlocked. From Margarets(Wistron) email, it seems that it would be implemented down the road..not now, if gateway/acer requests it.
Email below:
-----------------
Dear Erik,
sorry for the late reply,
for your request, the BIOS team will only start the implementation when there is request from the Gateway/Acer; therefore, as soon as we got the request from Gateway/Acer, we will phase in the request into our development scheulde.
thank you.

Hi there mate,
Just got a quick question regarding the Bios v94.29 version. Is this meant to be installed on a > GATEWAY P-6831 FX ? I have one of these. I'm just a little mixed up.
If so, what advantages are there ?
Please get back to me with some feedback.
Many thanks.

hey guys, anyone post some numbers on battery life from raid 1/0?
i'm about to buy another drive, for raid 1, but i'm concerned i'll lose like 30mins if i do...anyone? -
Man..great question. I almost never run off battery, so I wouldn't be able to give ya good input. But, I'd *assume* that if ya dim the screen brightness just a touch, it could help make up for some of the power consumption. Hopefully you find a better answer than that though
-
Is there a list of the bios fixes somewhere? I don't need Raid at the moment, but am wondering if a bios update would be beneficial anyway.
thanks,
Frank -
Well, the current BIOS for the 7811FX..which Im assuming you're asking about, is 9c.08.00. It's on pg. 1 of this thread.
2 pages back from here (pg. 42)there is the BIOS for the other FX Series laptops.
You can visit Gateway.com and check their support section..although, the BIOS listed for the 7811FX is not compatible. Hence, the one being posted here. But, the other FX systems are compatible with that 94.28 download. You may have the 9c.08.00 BIOS, when your comp boots just tap the escape button when you first see the gateway splash screen..To the upper left it will tell you BIOS Revision: 9c.05.00 or 9c.08.00. If you have .05, I suggest updating. Whether you have or want RAID or not..it is nice to have the proper, current BIOS. Sorry if this info is kinda disorganized.. just not sure exactly what you're looking for. -
Just bought the P-7811FX and two 320 GB drives and everything is working great, the only question I have is why under the Create Volume Menu it shows only 298.1 GB Capacity when the drives are 320 GB? I picked RAID1 (Mirror)
-
It's the GB = 1000^3 bytes vs GB = 1024^3 bytes problem.
320 GB is when the drive is measure using GB = 1000^3 however, the calculation that results in the 298 GB uses GB = 1024^3
(320 *1000^3)/1024^3 = 298 GB -
Ahh so when you buy a 320 you are really buying a 298.1GB? So you lose 22GBs... sweet.... How can they sell something when you pay per GB when you don't really get the full or really close to it?
-
That's one way to look at it. If the drive manufacturer's used 1024^3 as the definition of a GB then the advertised drive capacity would match what the computer reports. But by using 1000^3 it looks like you are getting more and it also allows them to use "nicer" whole numbers (e.g. 320 GB vs 298 GB). They have been doing it this way forever. Now more people are noticing it because the capacities are getting larger. When it was a 1 GB drive, the difference was 1 GB (using 1000GB) vs 0.93 GB (using 1024 GB) so you "lost" less than a GB. Now it appears you are "losing" a lot more. So even when it comes to computer parts, things are not always logical
-
So for future reference always look for 1024^3 when buying drives? Also what does the ^ stand for, tried to look for the math symbol on wiki and it didn't come up.
-
I think most, if not all, drives use the 1000^3 definition for GBs so I don't know if you'll find one spec'd using 1024^3.
The 1024^3 is 1024 to the 3rd or 1024*1024*1024 = 1073741824
1000^3 is 1000*1000*1000 = 1000000000 -
Also I have a noob RAID 1 question, sounds like the head on one of my new drives is clicking (and I know what that means in the end) when I RMA it and get a replacement will all my data be transferred automatically since its a RAID 1, or do I need to do something?
-
If youre using RAID 1, yes the array will rebuild itself upon the new drive being installed.
-
Great thank you DOOK =) So just to double check, it won't be a problem taking one out and running off of one while the other is being replaced? Also the clicking noise happens every now and then and there are just two clicks, maybe followed by another two clicks. My Gut says RMA the thing, but what do you think?
-
No problem.
And no, there wont be an issue running just one until you get the array rebuilt. As far as the clicking, most hard drives click from time to time. However, that being said, sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between normal operation and the click of death. If you think its bad, it's not going to hurt to RMA it. -
E-wrecked said the following
I bought the " Western Digital Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive" and that makes sense now why its clicking. Does anyone know how he ended up fixing this issue? -
ok so I did more research and I found the following:
Problem:
During normal operation, a WD Scorpio 2.5" hard drive will make a clicking noise when attempting to enter into power-saver or standby mode.
Cause:
This issue is caused by a system initiated power management command being interpreted incorrectly by the hard drive.
Resolution:
There is a WD Scorpio 2.5" hard drive optimization utility available to resolve this issue. Please follow the directions below to download and run the utility.
Source: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc...3RleHQ9Y2xpY2tpbmcgbm9pc2U*&p_li=&p_topview=1
So I created a boot USB drive with the exe. When I get to the dos prompt and type in "wdupd020.exe" and it tells me "No Drives were detected. If hard drives are in the system, then perhaps the controller is not supported. Please contact your WD Rep" What is going on? I had to reinstall vista 64 since I installed my two drives but that shouldn't be part of the problem could it? -
guru,
I did manage to finally make a bootable usb that could access the hard drives from DOS. I used "Active Boot Disk Demo".. takes a bit to download, but it worked perfectly. Until I booted into DOS and ran the program..it accessed my Hard Drives, and then told me the firmware doesn't need to be updated. And you have to access them with IDE mode set in BIOS, not RAID. But, as I said.. it told me they were fine. *shrugs* Still clicks once in a while. Im just gonna ignore it.
-
This makes me very happy I bought a 7200.3.
Mine already shipped, so I'm perfectly alright with saying the 320GB is on sale at ZZF for 97 bucks shipped.
-
yea but E-wrecked if you check the link I posted that goes to WDs website I mean that is the solution to make it stop clicking. Have you tried that?
-
guru, yea.. that's what I am referring to. I already went through that process. And the WD Program told me the hard drives didn't need updating. Save yourself some time. There are a couple threads on here that have work-arounds.. but, Im just not gonna fool with it. I wasted enough time to find out there was no easy resolution. Including the WD download. Oh, and I dont think that update applies to ours..FYI. Mine ends in wd72blablah bekt. I think that download is meant for the sys, or kys, or something like that.
-
hmmm... well if that's the case it will be the last time I buy a WD. WD used to be the best of the best back in the day but now that seagate is on par or better. Wish I did more research on this but then again I never cam across this type of issues before with hard drives =(. I could RMA the both of them and get two seagates but at this point... meh. Thank you E-wrecked for your help =)
-
Oh.. and here ya go: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=168425&page=12
This is a resolution, that's simple..if you're not already running RAID.
hdparm -B 254 /dev/hda ; or /hdb..depending on how many drives ya have. Didnt work for me cause Im already RAIDed..then again, these drives didnt click when not in RAID.
