I have been using mine for a few days, so far I LOVE IT, best laptop or machine I have ever owned (and I sell servers as part of what I do for a living). Here are my only "issues":

    1. The bright orange lights in the media center. At least these can be turned off with FN > F1.
    2. The writing on the keys is not bold enough, so if you touch type and it is pitch black in the room, it is going to take some getting used to (at least for the first few weeks), the numbers have subdued orange writing.
    3. The touch pad is off centered. While it is centered based on the position of the main keyboard, it does not take into account the numeric keypad on the side. It is bugging me a bit, I keep positioning my thumbs to far to the right. But I am sure that this is something I will get used to quickly.
    4. Gateway is still shipping with faulty apps (Gateway Recovery Management was the first one I found). But after updating Vista to SP3, all of the drivers and GRM I am pleasantly surprised that I actually LIKE Vista! All of the older apps I had which would not run on SP1 are working perfectly fine now.

The above are really only minor inconveniences. The only other issue I foresee having, and I think it is a limitation with how SATA RAID works, is when I get a second hard drive I will have to start all over again because the drives have to be reformatted. (I want RAID 1, does this still apply?)

Other than the above points I am still giddy with my new toy. I got mine for $575 NEW, I actually feel guilty, this laptop is worth three or four times that amount.

BTW, I love my P7805u to death !

    Hi
    I have recently bought 7805u.
However there has always be something what makes me disappointed.
I am trying to solve the problem connected with 2d glitches or horizontal lines on the screen.
There are NO such problems hopefully in 3d.
Do you know what may be the source of this problems? Did anyone experienced anything similar?
When certain drivers are installed there is no such problem.
All I want to know is that if there is some hardware failure or what?

    EDIT:
I installed 180.20 and there are no problems.
Whereas on the other drivers i still encounter glitch problems.

    STRANGE!!!

Any of you guys Fold on your GPUs? What kind of times do you get per percent? On my lowly 32-core Nvidia GPU I finish 1% per 9 minutes or so if I'm remembering right, which seems pretty fast, so I can't imagine on these 64 core and above parts :)

It does slow down the Windows interface though (not horribly) when it's running. Obviously GPUs don't multitask as well as CPUs, yet. I bet over the years that'll get improved, as we possibly move to a "two types of CPUs" model-one specializing in super repetitive, non-brancy code (the "GPU") and one specializing in branching stuff (the "CPU").

them some old drivers. Ive had the same problem with lines. I found at least for me it was happening when the gpu would down clock ans stay on a certain speed. I stoped all that with powermizer and now my clocks are maxed 100% of the time with no lines. Also makes the computer more snappy when staying at a web page for a few minutes.

I edited registry and for the time being everything seems to be ok. I turned off powermizer. Now the fan is working hard all the time but there are no glitches in 2d. Thanks mate.

had 7805 since June. like the notebook, but HATE gateway support site. wiped the drive (including recovery partion because vista was just too much suckage to put back on the box...really, it was for me, no offense intended if you like/love vista) and put w7 on, having some issues with intel storage matrix driver not installing. otherwise, other than looking for a couple of 4 gig sticks to upgrade RAM (and yes, i've read the forum and kamin's rec for SD card etc), it's a fine machine for me.

Ugh, the refurb machine I bought in May died. It no longer shows any video on boot.

I contacted Gateway but they said I have to contact the refurbishing company for support... but they don't answer their phone. Anyone know a way I could just get Gateway to service it? Even if I have to pay...

    Hi
Weren`t you thinking about Vista Ultimate SP2 x64? I removed vista home sp1. Now it seems to be fine. What is more I edited registry and turned off powermizer. I thought that laptop was broken due to the fact that there were some horizontal lines in 2d. Cheers. Machine is great. In 1024x768 in crysis in high details without AA i have 20 - 60 fps.

wow.. So i just read 47 pages of posts.. My eyes are burning like fire, they may in fact be bleeding...

I am the proud owner of a new 7805u, i just bought it last week from TD for $999. I was torn between this and the dell studio xps 16. I decided to save myself $400, well i actually bought a zune and the kicker zk500.

I really like this laptop so far. It's super fast, even compared to my work pc, and definitely faster than my 3 year old home pc. I just can't wait until i get my free upgrade to win7. WOOT!!!

The only issues i have (which are small) are:
    1. No bluetooth (built in) i got a mini usb dongle
    2. The viewing angle seems small (you have to be directly in front and have it tilted up/down perfectly to have the clearest angle) Is there an upgrade screen i can get that will fix this?? i've already asked twice but I think this would be the best place
    3. Speakers are way soft. I guess this is a laptop though.
    4. The function key/Ctrl key really mess me up. I know i'll get use to it, but come on, seriously?
    5. I wish the keyboard was backlit.
    6. webcam (isn't the best, is there any way to add effects besides the lame objects/frame? for instance, black/white, old film, etc..)

Yes, those are all very picky gripes, I'm just listing what kept this from being absolute perfection. It's still an awesome buy and i would recommend it to anyone. I'm hoping some of you guys that have had yours for a while will let us new guys in on the secrets you have learned about it.

    edit***
1 other thing i've noticed is when i'm transfering files to a usb flashdrive it only transfers at about 4MB per second. Which is what about 32Mbps? That seems VERY slow. Anyone else experience this? It seems like it's about the same when i'm transfering files over my home network (wireless from laptop>through linksys>to computer>to external hd)

Welcome to Elijah and azazin. Elijah, you can install a bluetooth internal. There is a full thread devoted to it-pics and all. Here- http://www.bigwheezy.com/7805/bt.html and search for drivers for 7805 azazin. I use the nVidia. But several people use Dox and other modded drivers. Just trial and error mostly.

For what it's worth, my write up may be more work than is necessary, a lot of people have found it easier to just loosen all the screws on the bottom and pry up the front of the palm rest to get at the bluetooth module

Hello gateway users! I was surfing google about 9800m gts overclocking and saw this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3918126&postcount=12

has anyone else been able to reproduce those overclocks of 745/1003/1940? What voltage is your 9800m gts? is it 1.11v?

*i think that guy was using a gateway, not 100% sure*

so here's my results after updating to the latest nvidia driver
    FPS: min=28 max=42 avg=32

    this the normal?

I just ran the stress test and i quit after about 10-15 mins because the temp got up to 82 degrees. I didn't want to mess up my laptop. Was this bad?

Doin' better than me. I'm running Win 7 with 186.81 drivers and get 21/24/32 but MSAA always defaults to 8X. Don't know why. But your numbers seem good. My GPU will get 80-82C when it is the hottest. I think that's normal but the cooler the better. Saw a mod I'm gonna try here- http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=414147. Let y'all know how it goes.

EDIT:Just ran it again with nHancer settings and overiding the defaults got the same as you-28/32/42.

just for a comparison i ran 29-34-44 at stock clocks with 181.42 drivers. With a oc i ran 33-38-50. In doing so i realized my GPU fan isnt working right as you can see from the temps i got.

its because your core clock is too high but the mem and shaders can be pushed farther. my OC is 680-880-1700. i wish i could OC the core and shader just a tad bit more but my GPU is at its limit.

yea once i get the chance to clean the gpu fan and heat sink im going to try to push it more. ie find max for each clock before it artifacts then apply all 3 then drop clocks until stable. my current OC is more of a tweak as i go. Using the method above i hope i can get a better OC if i fix my heat issue.

My GPU is at 716 900 1800 with Nvidia 186.81 and it artifacts. I didn't even know that was the term for it, but now I do. Should I turn my GPU clocks down? My driver keeps crashing... what is the best driver to use and will it stop artifacts if I keep the same clocks?

Yeah artifacts and crashing is your computers little way of telling you that you're destroying it.

Why are you trying to clock it so high?

Just drop to stock and then increase in small incriments until you find your cards best clocks (note this isnt always the highest clocks, you want stability and speed as well as not to cook your hardware)

I think you got those settings from me, and just to let you know you will get some artifacts at random times when browsing the internet and/or watching divx movies or the like. I am trying to fix this with nhancer, and will let you know when I might be successful. These things happen only in the newer drivers though, if you downgrade to 182.50 you will not see any artifacts pop up randomly @ these settings. But I am a pretty passionate gamer so I sacrifice the random artifact and crash every hour or so when browsing for the much smoother performance that I get from newer drivers. (currently on 191.07 BEST so far)

--edit: Oh, and I never get artifacts in-game. If you do then reply and I will give you some Nhancer settings that fixed it for me and some older games (like wc3 frozen throne etc)

hi andros_forever, I'm new here, and I've just bought 7805uFX. There's nothing I can say about it, just love it.

I saw your sign, about mod and tweak 7805 ^^, and I really curious about how you did it. Would you mind sharing your knowledge?

My 7805 is great, but when I try playing game on battery (just testing), I've got artifacts and crash, but it's fine on AC. I use nVidia performance to overclock my 9800M GTS, right now I'm at the default clock, I can play Gear Of War Maximum with out any lag, but I must stay on AC, if I change to battery, the whole thing crash. Do you have any idea how I can fix it?

Sounds like, on battery power, it is not set for "performance" in Advanced Power Settings.

While that might fix your problem, be aware that the battery will diminish quicker when providing the higher power needed.

Heh, sure I will share what I have learned in the future, but as for your current problem I would stay on the AC while gaming. If you play CPU and GPU intensive games you are going to need all the power you can get, and the battery just doesn't cut it for most newer games. And yes, make sure you are running on max performance as well under the power options.

hey andros what are your settings in far cry 2. High Very high or Ultra? and DX9 or DX10? or is it a custom config? was just watching your youtube and was wondering. thanks.
also does patching the game help performance wise?

Thank you, andros_forever and JohnWhoTwo ^^.

I have my power setting as High performance all the time ^^, don't care it is battery or AC power, but I still got that kind of crash. I think I should stick with AC whenever I wanna play game ^^.

uhm, one more question, I'm using windows 7 RTM professional (with CD Key from MSDN), how can I use DirectX9 in crysis? DX10 is a mess, slow, lag, etc...
