ill have to try out CCC lvl 4 since i never have since i patched the game. I currently use CCC lvl 5 at 1400 x 10xx so a bump up into the 16's or 19's will be nice

    I can start:

Problems associated with old or faulty drivers

    Problems associated with software conflicts

Problems associated with overheating if the vents aren't clear (this is true with virtually all notebooks, BTW)

    Problems associated with Operator Error

    That's a start.

    :)

you mean that large sticker with Marcus Fenix on it?

If so, does it leave behind gummy residue that smears everywhere despite your best efforts to rub/clean it off? I'm in the same position as JVlichael in that i want to get rid of that sticker but dont want to spoil the aesthetics of the laptop at the same time.....it's that damn residue problem that is worrying me.

    anyone confirm plz?

Leaves absolutely no residue if you are careful.

All I've kept on my 05u is the little Nvidia, Intel, and Vista stickers.

removed mine...problem with those stickers is over time they start to rub off and look HORRIBLE, then it's a huge problem to get them off without the residue...mine pealed right off and i didn't even have to clean it afterwards.

Okay, Imma keep the sticker though :p Thanks for the confirmation.

EDIT: I just did it and it left some residue but that can be easily rubbed off, I didn't do it as carefully though.

yeah....9800m GTS OCed from stock clocks to 700/950/1750 stable with 190.15 drivers and 6.03 ntune. GPU under load reachs around 70C max.

others have upped their shader clock as high as 1805 IIRC and it's stable, although i have not been able to reproduce that on my rig.

Yeah O.C.ing is very easy. I reccomend you head over to Tech powerup's website and download GPU tool. Not for the actual overclocking but for stress testing. It will report errors, record GPU heat and keeps the GPU under a pretty heavy load so you will know if you have a stable OC. I have also noticed the the memory overclock makes the most dramatic changes in performance. So yeah just download the latest drivers, Nvidia tools, and O.C. :D

btw, when i removed mine i did it like i was disarming a BOMB...very carefully, knowing that if it tears at all it'll explode in your face. Took me a few minutes but worth it.

Got my Blu-Ray in today (the guy who sells them on ebay for 79.99 shipped), installed and ready to go in like 20 minutes, that included removing both faceplates and straightening out the bent holder (with pliers, must have gotten bent in shipping, his packaging is not the best) at the bottom (where the screw goes in). Ran to the library, got a couple bluray movies....works GREAT (even in my crappy 1440x900 mode). Autoetected the burner with no hitches, all automatic.

Guess i'll sell my old one on ebay, recoup from of the money for this one.

I feel like the value of this computer has just went up quite a bit with the Blu-Ray inside.

Had anyone here underbolted their cpu yet?

I got this guide from someone, but then i noticed they have a different graphics card so I'm thinking it's a different laptop then the ones we have. Should i just do it anyways?

Also my FX came with a lot of random like games and programs anyone delete them cause i don't know what to get rid of.

Also what intercooler is compatible with the 7805 i need a good one without exhausting my wallet.

Undervolting a P series dosent seem worth the time to me. Your proc stays pretty cool to begin with I would just roll with it. You can delete any of the gateway games you want it wont so anything, you can get a program called ccleaner which will identify bloatware on your PC for you to uninstal

Hello to all, I recently bought one before deployment as my mobile arcade. I've played a bunch of games on this thing with minimal problems. I just recently started monitoring temps, mostly it hits the low 40's to mid to high 50's at idle and pushes high 60's to low 70's during gaming. I have the smooth power brick with the LED but it still hisses during gaming. from what i read all over the internet i need to upgrade that thing to the targus 120W. I do have one game that is a problem. Kane and Lynch seems to run like butt. I was doing the car chase scene right out of the bank robbery and it got all choppy on the low settings. IDK what could have caused that. I'm currently not overclocking this machine bc if it breaks I'm out a way to talk to home, play games, and watch movies. Recently I went home on leave and had a little accident with some wine and my keyboard. lets just say i am on my second keyboard for my 7805u. thank god for homeowners insurance. i wish i knew that BB did that whole thing about laptop replacement. My homeowner's insurance only covers up to 3000 and the depreciated value of my laptop when it does kick the bucket. i've tore mine apart to clean it a couple times bc the iraq dust just gets everywhere. but other than the stained screen, this is one of my better laptops i've owned. my second gateway latop, i previously had the NX two years ago. it was almost the top of the line back then.

    UPDATE
I bench marked this baby today with 3DMark06. Got a score of 8716 with nothing overclocked or undervolting my cpu. is this normal for any other user?

Hello all, I am new here and looking for some help. I bought my 7805u about 6 months ago maybe a little less. And recently I was watching some video podcasts via iTunes and it started acting weird. Sometimes video would just stop, other times it would stop and the audio would loop. in all cases the only way to reocever was to hold the power button down till it shut off. I'd play the same video and the same thing would happen, I'd try a different video and same thing. Sometimes it would come up and say that the video driver had an error. Weeks prior to this I was getting video driver errors every day and blue screens. I updated drivers then from Nvidia's website with no improvement. What helped then was to turn off the screen saver! Since then no problems with blue screens. I normally leave my laptop on 24/7 and just close the lid leaving it open a few inches for the heat to escape. I don't currently play games other then Plants Vs Zombies, which has its own issue which I'll come back too.

Last night I updated the Nvidia drivers again to the most recent version, June 9 I think. Still getting the lockups and now also getting white "static" in random places on the screen at random times. I checked CPU temps and I am running at 45-55C on both cores, I have not checked the GPU temp as the nvidia Ntools causes a blue screen on my computer. I found the cpuid tool here in the forum, but have not tired it yet. Does this sound like GPU over heating? Has any one else had this and got a resolution from BBY that was to thier satisfaction?

I have added a second HD for dual booting Windows 7. Other then that nothing has changed from stock config.

Other issues the ZERO key does not work 100%, not the numberpad one, the standard one. It requires more force then normal to get it to work and sometimes double "punches" putting two 0's on the screen.

When playing Plants Vs. Zombies it will randomly pause for 2-3 seconds, nothing seems to be causing this, and I have killed all the un-needed processes, but it still happens.

At this point am I resigned to going to Gateway to get these fixed or should I try my luck and try to get a BBY exchange?

    Also I got the 1440x900 screen :(

Thanks in advance for yor help
    Bob Sawyer

Hello all, just picked one of these up from TD so I'm interested to see what screen I get. Honestly the 1440x900 is fine by me. I'm replacing a 3 year old E1705, so this should be a nice step up. I am interested in several things that I've read here and other places:

    1) Burn testing the system. Since it's a refurb from TD I should test the heck out of it :) Is there an easy way to do it, or do I just need to download various utilities and run the heck out of them?

    2) Upgrades! Looks like a t9600 or t9800 is a nice jump up and an easy swap. I'm also looking to pick up a BD drive from Ebay. Is the Philips one the one to snag? Looks like it goes for around $75. Beyond that, are there any updates I should think about? Drivers obviously (going to do a clean wipe after I burn test the unit), but are there other things to look into doing?

    Thanks for this great thread!

For #1 I'd check out furmark, typically the GPU is more of an issue than the CPU in these machines

I just got this and the person told me not to reformat it for any reason. Now I'm having doubts, I wanted to install vista ultimate and update it with intel / nvidia drivers. But he's telling me otherwise.

    Regardless, I'm quite pleased.

Im not sure why he would of told you that I just did it to mine. And not one problem. Also, it has picked up some speed , vid card stays cooler to. Also just put an lg 1900x1200 lcd in it and man what a difference. Will still play crysis at around 30 fps at full res on a mix of medium and high. This is one hell of a machine couldnt be happier with it.

I am getting one of these babys soon but I have a few questions for all you gurus out there.

    1. I have heard that the latest drivers give you problems. Can someone tell me what version of the Nvidia driver I should be using?

    2. Overclocking, GPU and CPU. What is the most stable clock speeds you guys have run?

    3. What programs should I use to test this machine?

    Hello.

Just got my refurb 7805 from Tiger today.
What can I say? The unit looks completely brand new.
Though it came on a brown box with the GW logo and no manuals,
    everything else seems perfect.

And the best thing, I was able to create the installation disks
(all 3 dvd's + 1 driver dvd) without any problems. After I booted
the thing up, it took sometime to initialize windows, then just after
it did that, I immediately created the installation disk without even
    going online yet.

So far so good. And oh, the only downside is that I got the 1440 screen
which is what I should really be getting in the first place.

Now, any suggestions what do I do next?

    Ciao!

Hi everyone just got my P-7805u today...

    I would like to know.....

    1) what is the best GPU driver available now?(maybe the most recommended one, or I can just stick with the original driver?)

2)Do I need to upgrade BIOS? if yes, what is the advantage of upgrading BIOS

    Thanks !

Hey guys, I've been having this problem sometimes when the laptop starts up or I open the screen. The laptop's screen resolution automatically switches to 1151 by 864 pixels. Its not a serious problem, but it's annoying to have to open the display settings and reset the resolution after every startup. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks in advance.

    Hey folks, I bought my P7805u 2nd hand so have a quick question for those of you who bought your systems new;

How does the P-7805u drive controller and BIOS come configured from Gateway/Best Buy out of the box? AHCI or IDE?

It had what I thought was a drive failure and I took it to Best Buy to certify it was the drive. It was configured AHCI when it went in not working, but after the Best Buy repair and restore it came back in IDE mode.

Now no RAID and now Acronis boot disk blue screens. Before I go complain to Best Buy Id like to know how it comes configured new.

    Thanks in advance for info.

Nope no 260GTX for you... for that you will need the 79XX models

As to the CPU the fastest are the t9900 and the x9100

So a full-on compatible chip-swap to the t9900 is possible with the p7805u then. Cool. Are there any considerations, i.e. cooling or other, that should be considered if one decided to go that route? Any other upgrades that compliment the cpu upgrade? This thing with the P8400 does nicely, but it would scream with a T9900 in here - fun stuff. :)

Yep the t9900 is a plug and play upgrade, no hassle at all.

As to the considerations. The x9100 is cheaper usually, but will run a bit hotter.

As to any other upgrades. I always recommend SSD's, but they are a bit costly. On the good side though your system will FLY with a SSD. Instant access is such a nice thing ;)
