Hence the "Most cases" I put in that previous post![]()
Generally WXGA's are 1280x800. But there are other resolutions around there that people just call WXGA anyway, 1280x768, 1366x768. 1280x720, Etc.
-
thanks for the many responses everyone.
i will be visiting best buy this wednesday and check out the system.
i am pretty relieved to hear that its 1440x900.
anyway, i am going to be checking for dead pixels and how good the screen is and see if there's any light bleeding.
are most of the screens on the 7805u laptops nice?
i've also read that the black color isn't all black, but dark gray. -

I *HATE* it when people still use QGAZ3MP type names for screens.
It has made NO sense whatsoever to list stuff like that since the mid 90s, at the absolute latest. It was one thing when you had CGA, EGA, VGA, and then Super VGA or whatever. Fine. But past that it makes 100 billion times more sense to just list the resolution. I'm pretty nuts about hardware, and am proud to say I have not and will not memorize any of these silly labels. Since I have numbers on my keyboard, and can type 1440x900 or the like -
Ok so nobody has "freezing" issues?
-
-
thank you for your answer!
In fact this problem occurs kindof when I push the graphic card to its limits.
Does somebody have an idea to enhance the cooling? -
-
how can it be that two people who have the same computers, and only one of them have a heating issue?
room temperature and surfaces seem like minor things. do they matter that much?
is there a chance that there is simply something wrong with the video card or a hardware?
i havent got to test out the games for hours yet, but i dont wanna play for so long, im so busy this week.. and i have to decide if i wanna keep the laptop within 2 weeks ( i bought it from best buy yesterday).
is there anything else other than games that i can use to test out to see if i have heating problem?
something i can just leave it on for hours, instead of playing a game myself?
and venadyel, do you have the 1920x1200 or the 1440x900? -
Could be poorly seated GPU, poorly applied thermal paste on the GPU, poorly seated Heatsink. Defective GPU.. So many things.
But downlaod HWMonitor (Google it) and run it while you play a game for like 20-30minutes. Than see what HWMonitor shows your temps are when you're done. -
I got the 1440.
Surface doesn't affect too much. But anyway, since my laptop is less than 2 months old, its vents are still clean. Room temperature is 20 degrees, and is not an issue.
So you think it is due to the graphic card or something like that... I'll try to change it and have another one. But with Gateway's warranty... since it's been a long time I bought it! -
Its possible that its the graphics card itself. Try changing drivers and such before going through the hassle of exchanging it with gateway. -
what!!
crysis warhead doesnt support 1440x900!!! -
-
Use one of them.
I'm using 181.22 for my system. Though drivers aren't "One driver fits all". Play with them a bit if you have to to see which gives you best performance. -
what's the one that i installed then?
do i install the 181.22 the same way i installed mine? i used this method:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=265740 -
Might be nVidias though, non-modded.
Yeah use the same guide. -
the 1440x900 showed up.
and i've used CPUID to get the temperatures, and i haven't played even an hour, but it goes up to 43c~71c for GPU, and 31~42 for CPU.
i like my gateway so far -
Glad to hear we have another Satisfied FX user -
I just got a p-7805u and have a question about the lcd. Mine came with the 1440x900 lcd which I am fine with, but it looks terrible! It has light bleed, virtually no contrast, a terrible viewing angle and just generally is hurting my eyes. I put a dvd in and the black widescreen bars where shimmering gray. Is this normal or did I get a bad screen?
Thanks -
Go to the nVidia Control Panel (right click on your desktop and click NVIDIA Control Panel)
go to "Adjust desktop Color Settings" under the Display tab on the right.
Find what works best for you. -
-
Yes, I had to change mine, also.
Looks great now.
It is not surprising that the default settings for the video card and monitor don't give the best image. -
Both of you guys have the LG 1920x1200 displays, I have the 1440x900 display. I adjusted my settings for a while, and it still looks super low contrast. My 22" westinghouse 1650x1050 display blows it out of the water and it's not a terribly high quality monitor. And my samung 20" is like night and day in comparison.
The color black simply does not exist on this display, instead it is a rather inconsistent gray. Everything looks washed out and the colors do not really pop no matter how much adjusting I have done with it. It is rather bright tho and whites look clean. Is there a large difference between desktop and laptop displays? this is my first laptop so perhaps I was expecting too much, but as it is I would never consider watching a dvd on this, and darker games like left 4 dead look pretty bad with contrast ratio.
The viewing angle is also terrible. My device manager says the lcd is "Generic PnP monitor", do other people with the 1440x900 lcd have the same?
I am wondering if mine might be defective or if the 1440x900 monitors are all this low quality. I love everything about this laptop (including the resolution, the screen size and gpu do not justify a higher resolution screen if your a gamer), except the terrible display quality and I am starting to consider returning it.
Is this normal or did I get a lemon?
Also do blacks look pretty good on the 1900x1200 models? Should I try and switch for a display model? -
FX? Those are the worst! Do some searching "geforce fx overheating" You'll find a good amount of reading material. My laptop vents are clean, I've had this laptop for 2 months and the laptop sits on a solid surface with no obstructions so it has perfect airflow. Not to mention to relatively cold temperature in my room. I know when the laptop starts to overheat, I can barely hold my hand next to where the hot air vents it gets so hot, soon after the graphics freeze up. It's a laptop, i shouldn't have to lug around a huge "cooling pad" too... So yeah... if your not having these issues I would assume you don't play the same graphics intensive games (i.e. crysis with near max settings) and COD 5 Advanced Warfare (the primary games it locks up on). I've updated all the drivers so it's not that either. Either that or maybe I have a dud.
EDIT: Just downloaded the new Unreal Tournament and I can't play longer than 5 minutes without it freezing. Woohoo!! -
but all the times i've played games, it doesnt seem to get very hot anywhere on the laptop.
maybe its a common problem on the fx, but i got a good one.
but 5 minute freeze-up sounds like you have actual hardware problems. -
Yeah I'm about to buy another, swap out the mobo and return it, haha. If only I had another 1100 to throw around like that.
-
I just used a spyder2. Blacks are really black. Makes my wallpapers pop out quite a bit.
-
best buy got some 1900 by 1200 screens in! i saw them myself
-
-
And I play Crysis, CoD4, Played CoD5 but the gameplay of that game didn't interest me even after giving it two hours so I uninstalled it. Also play the most intensive game out to date which is GTAIV and it runs fine for me.
I've never seen my GPU go over 71c. (That was when I was at my friends house and I was playing with it on my lap with my legs open a bit. At home the GPU never reaches over 64c. -
i dont use a cooler, but maybe i should.
its usually at 47 without games.
whats a dangerous temp? -
I don't use a cooler either, and I don't use mine on a desk, I made my own "Stand" type thing out of a cardboard box and I use my laptop on my bed and on my lap whenever I'm on it. -
Bought a 7805u today. Best Buy guys were like we can't open the boxes. Floor display was 1900 by 1200 screen and flawless. I gave them hell about floor display not matching the boxed models and finally was able to get them to sell me the floor display. They put it out yesterday and that was how I found the good screen. I did get the replacement warranty. So far I played left 4 dead flawless and sold my 6860 to my father in law since his computer died yesterday. I'm pretty happy with the upgrade. Temps are all lower than my 6860 so far. I'm loading battle forge right now to check it out.
I'm really happy. -
-
Thanks man. Keyboard and a few things seem improved even though it looked exactly like my 6860 with the 2 computers next to each other. Installed the 182.11 drivers I think. Left 4 Dead looks incredible... It's like a whole new game in terms of detail and ran full speed with no hiccups at all at max 1900 by 1200 res.
-
left 4 dead uses source engine, which is executable in most old computers no problem. -
Yeah Left 4 dead runs beautiful, Also CoD4, Assassins creed, Prince of Persia, GTAIV, etc, all run wonderfully
(Maxes them all out but I prefer to lower the res on GTAIV so it runs COMPLETELY smooth and not the little hiccups it has at max)
-
Okay, I gotta know, as I will be getting my 7805u today or tomorrow (just waiting on a check) And, I am wondering how F.E.A.R. 2 plays on it. I have been desperatly wanting to play this game, and have been holding off until I get the new laptop to play it on.
Thanks guys...
And, Keep your fingers crossed, the local BB has 5 of the 78s in stock, 3 of which have the 138 serial , and 2 i belive have the confirmed batch codes for 1900s...
I CANT WAIT!!!!
Oh one more question, is it possible to burn the recovery discs to dual layer dvds? or do I have to use standard? -
-
when you run the program it claims it will need 2 DVD's or multiple CD's, I just naturally did single layered DVD's. It doesn't ask for you to declare the media type so it may see a DL, then again it may not care, again if it does it is because the program does it.
-
I GOT ONE!!!! I GOT THE 1900X1200 SCREEN!!!! I am so happy
it is such a beautiful computer, and well, yea, i am thrilled and happy and giddy as a school girl right now. WH0000T For those who are curious the batch number is IO56450 The Rockford IL Best Buy has 3 more of these in stock with the same batch number and the 138 serial number.
it's so sexxxxyyy...... mmmmmmmmm -
I talked to a Best Buy guy today at Best Buy, and he told me if you get the Best Buy warrenty, it DOES cover customer upgrades, meaning, if you upgrade your cpu, your still covered. I find that pretty cool, if it is true.
-
-
I talked to a Best Buy guy today and he told me the first P-7805u's had DDR2 RAM.
I'd much rather think your guy knows more than my guy.
-
LOL, me too,
he told me all the P-7805u's he has seen had the high res screens too
-
Mine said none of them have the 1920 screen and they all had 1440 screens.
-
That's the first I checked was the memory. Yes, it DDR3 for sure.
