I didn't even say anything about the resolution to mine because I got mine before any 1440x900's had even been reported on this forum :D
I actually bought the Display model that they HADN'T put on display yet because they weren't released yet, but the stupid employees at my bestbuy had no clue about it and just sold me the only one they had in "stock" :p

Yea, I walked in , and was asking so many questions about the serial numbers and the batch numbers the sales guy questioned wether or not I worked for gateway and was trying to scout out a bad batch. NONE of the people at my BB knew the diffrence, and they all figured that the 7805s screen was just extra 'crisp' I ended up explaining to their geek squad the diffrence between the two batches as well as the manager on duty. Was an intresting experince. They asked how I found out and I told them about this site. So, I have a slight feeling that we will see new members from the local area soon.

I was out of town for the Holidays but walked into BB on 1/4 right after they opened, watched them set up the floor model, checked it, it was 1920x1200, asked for one, checked the batch #, it was an H3XXXX, figured it was an AUO 1920 and bought it, and it was.

I actually heard about the P-7805u from Hardforums on 12/26. I immediately rushed to the nearest BB after work. I didn't even write down the SKU... so i had to find a display unit that had internet connection and go back to the forums...but I think it was here that I found the SKU again. And then loftily found a sales clerk and gave him the SKU. Minutes later I was out the door... what a steal. :)

I think I remember that! It kind of makes sense that he'd want something powerful, but cheap-I mean I suppose it's product placement, but it's actually a computer I can completely see him buying.

I love that show! That and Lost are probably my absolute favorites right now (out of a TON of other really great shows).

Nobody really uses Quality from what I read.
    Everyone uses Balanced or Performance.
I've never used quality so I don't know how much a difference there is between it and the others, but I get 30FPS on the GTAIV performance test at all high with 50 detail, 50 distance, some odd resolution.

Hello, I am wondering on buying this lap... I would like to know if there is RAID0 capability or SSD support? Also what is the HD conection SATA or SATA2? And does it accpet a processor upgrade to a Quad core? Thanks u all.

    I use Balanced :)

    1) Yeah it supports SSD's and RAID0.
    2) I believe its SATA.
    3) Nobody has fully tried a Quad core in one yet so we don't know, though there is a Quad-core factory model named the P-7808u, and we are all assuming if the BIOS in our 7805u's don't support quadcore, we'll most likely be able to flash to the 7808u's BIOS, therefore definitely supporting Quad Cores.

Ok Thank you, just one more question, assuming it is a SATA conection is it possible to plug in a SATA II SSD? I've read some threads about it on the web but I couldn't build a thought yet. Some say just to change the jumper on the drive some say that a DOS program must be used to configure the drive speed.
    Thanks again

the laptop is SATA II natively, some SSDs have a jumper in the four pin area that restricts them to SATA I for backwards compatibility. You just remove that jumper for SATA II speeds. I haven't seen any SSDs that required a special configuration to run at SATA II speed

Big Mike thanks for the help but I've made some researching on gateway's website and it says the lap is SATA not SATA II like Semigamer said. How did you figured out it is SATA II? Anybody else knows which connection is it?
    Thanks

Anyone have issues with playing BF2? Initially I was having a patch problem where it couldn't find the directory to where it was installed. I modified the registry by adding a string of data to where it's installed and it patched successfully. But the problem now is when loading BF2 it crashes straight to the desktop right after the black screen comes up. I've tried all the fixes that are on Google, been having this issue for months now and have yet to be able to play my game. At this point I would assume it's something with the drivers on this laptop.

It uses the PM45 mobile chipset from intel which has native SATA II support.

Uh you found out wrong, PM45 uses the ICH9 south bridge, which is ABSOLUTELY SATA II, they haven't made a non SATA II chipset in like 3 years. See page 40 of the technical data sheet if you still aren't convinced:

I chatted with Gateways online support the other day about my laptop overheating - geez that was horrible. First they said that the 9800 gts was not overheating, but that the video was freezing and computer was running extremely hot because I didn't meet hardware specs for Company of Heroes. I LOL'd. So they tell me that and send a laptop spec sheet and try to hurry me off the chat like I'm a dumb customer. They think that the video freezing and the distinct audio buzz (thus causing me to have to press and hold the power button)means that this laptop is not fast enough... wow. I mean first of all, if I did not meet the system requirements the laptop would either not be allowed to play the game, or I would get poor framerates - Video freezing and laptop locking up with audio buzz is a HARDWARE defect! And I was getting something around 80 fps when it locks up. Anyway, I called them finally after that joke of a service rep and now they want me to wipe the entire laptop of it's data and reformat it before they will take it in - just to see if that fixes it. So my 270gb of data I've got to find something to put it on temporarily so I can do this pointless task to make them feel better. What a waist of time. I have 20 huge , updated, and configured games on here. Along with all my personal data (no not pr0nz), and operating system custom configs. Seriously, do they put you through this much trouble in hopes you'll just give up so they don't have to honor their warranty? What crap. Gateways tech service, the free kind anyway, SUCKS.

As you mention, you ahve custom configs. They have to be sure default configuraton aand stock settings of the machine will not have the same issue. I know it stinks but it is a neccesary step.

    secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal

This is a legitimate program that scans for programs with security vulnerabilities, but I'm not sure if it does anything about drivers. Can't remember. I've never used anything for drives. I just check the site every great once in a while, and update video drivers when Nvidia posts new ones.

Great Forum. Just got hdmi cable to plug in to Onkyo SR606 receiver, gonna give it a go after work tonight. Any issues with audio, seeing as hdmi is v1.2 as spec'd on Gateways web site? Can we get Dolby TrueHD with blue-ray?
(Haven't picked up blue-ray drive yet though.)

    "secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal" is the link.

    Maybe better this way:

    Secunia - PSI

I'm running it on my stock FX P-7805u.

    Good program.

No problems with audio or picture on my 73" Mitsubishi. Just had to use the zoom option on the TV so it didn't cut off any of the screen. But sound was no problem. Let me know what you find out on your end.

SOrry for being random but, Is it easy to upgrade the CPU on this gateway? Im looking at P9600, I want to know before I commit the purchase as I really want a fast CPU with doubled cache. As I see, people have changed their cpu, will someone tell me how to do this step by step? if it doesnt bother anyone.. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone here had a problem with the nvlddmkm error? (tl;dr) I get it all the time on some games. What's odd is that it happens on less hardware intensive games(audiosurf, unreal tournament 2004, etc.) while the opposite run fine(unreal tournament 3, mass effect, etc.) I've googled and found many people complaining about it with the same model and I'm thinking about getting a replacement. It would be disappointing if they only have a lower res version now though. It's such a shame because no laptop I've seen can beat this at this price.

Tried the following btw and none worked:

-Installed latest drivers from nvidia and gateway

-Ran a memory test with no problem reported

    -Switched between opengl and d3d

    -Disabled Aero theme

-Decreased clock speed up to 10%(did work on one game)

    -Formatted to factory condition
