Abortion Stops A Beating
i ran across a billboard sign that said that earlier today. granted, it had a little pulse design next to it, but it kind of makes you wonder. -
Abortion stops a beating indeed...poor women
How would you guys define a "stable clock" for the GPU anyways? Do you run multiple 3DMark06 tests? If so, how many times? I just got 9,503 marks on the P7811 tonight. -
thats exactly what i thought when i first read that. i guess it could also stop the kid from ever being beat...except by a coat hanger.
and i would define stable clock as your 3dmark score goes up each time you try it, but it suddenly lowers the score or the driver crashes. back it back down from that number, re-test it, and you should be good.
but you could also test the cpu/memory/shader clocks individually. most people dont, as it is time consuming. -
What can you tell me about those temps? How can i lower them, especially that
TZS0. Those were my temps after 4hours of Crysis Warhead. Video OC 715/970/1880. Laptops back lifted a bit as well.
TZS0 98C (208 F)
TZS1 60C (139 F)
Core0 44C (111 F)
Core1 46C (114C)
GPU 78C (172 F)
HDD 67C (152 F) -
I can tell you your CPU is downclocking while playing Crysis, based off your TZS0 temp. Other temps appear fine, HDD is a bit warm. Not sure ya can do much about the hard drive tho. Thank seagate for that one. Well, I guess you could try using the other open HDD bay to see if it helps. TZS0 is peaking cause of your clocks on the GPU. Back down your shaders a bit..closer to 1800, and maybe even drop the core just a bit..around 700 should be fine. Really tho, I think if ya just drop the shaders you'll notice TZS0 doesn't flip out on ya anymore. Lemme know how it works out
-
Does the Gateway FX come with performance altering/tweeking software for the CPU/GPU out of the box?
-
no..except for Nvidia Control panel allows you to adjust minor settings.
Anyhow, I'm gone for a bit folks..take it easy. I'll be back when I have something to type on. And it will be black, ugly, and a kick@SS whitebook -
People, making my decision next 10 days at most. Traveling to Europe for extended project so need to buy and then burn-in the lappie. How do u guys get the BB people to successfully check out the 2888 serial. On the phone, they don't have a clue what i'm talking about. I've visited 2 different BB's with the intention of buying the 7811 ONLY with the 2888 serial. Both times, the clueless employee disappears. After i track'em down, i see them having a serious discussion with a pissed of looking manager, in some corner. A while later, the employee informs me they only have the 2887's.
i can only speculate as to what he tells them , maybe to get rid of the older models first. visiting chicago next week for a day where there a bunch of BB's with the 7811 still. is there any way i can (successfully) ask over the phone if they have that SN # ??? -
just test the 2887 they have first... i mean, what would you lose? what if their 2887's work well?
-
I have 2887 model, and it works just fine. I only updated the bios, just for precausion
No BSOD's what so ever, or lockups. I don't know why people get freaked out by the 2887 model? If there was a problem, the new bios solves it. Too bad i didn't test my laptop with old bios, just to see whats the fuzz about those lockups and other "problems". 9 times out of a 10 - problem is between laptop and chair
-
I have a 2887 and it's perfect. That 2888 crap is just hype - don't buy into it.
-
I'll throw my hat into the 2887 ring. No problemo.
-
But in case you're just itching to get a 2888, I ordered one online last week and received a 2888.
Just FYI. -
yep no one proved any difference actually existed between the 2887 and 2888 (outside the bios update)
there was a claim about a better cooling but that was just hype -
thnks for replies guys. the reason i'm being so an**l is cause the older comp. will be given to GF and i will be taking the new lappie with me. so if it craps out on me, there will be nothing i could do outside the u.s.
someone did mention some extra vents etc etc on the new model. i'm just picturing myself tracking down the 2888 and then getting some ghosting problem or something as someone else did. i'm pretty patient btw. i had the infamous vertical line problem on my current lappie. i waited patiently and did zip until the problem escalated all over the place and dell replaced everyone's screens for free.
end of the day i might just walk down to the local BB 2 mins away and get the 2887. -
At this point, I don't think you'll regret it.
-
Well mine is on its way back...after being repaired due to a blank screen.
-
Is there any chance to control GPU or CPU fan in 7811FX? Because right now i dont know how those vents operate. CPU cores are supercool, around 16 C each, but the fan still is going. Where's the point? Bios should keep the CPU around the ambient temperature. Its just meaningles power consumption on a thing that really doesn't need to be cooled, at least not that low. Then sometimes, after the restart, fans work fine.
-
I've never flashed a BIOS before. I tried the instructions it came with, both the DVD and flash drive and it boots to nothing. How do I do this, I'm tired of games freezing.
-
Use the winflash version. Freezes may be more due to heat but ...
This flashes within windows, here is the link
ftp://MilkaPM:[email protected]/MI1/SW/Firmware/WinFlash/IMV-026W.zip
Don't have crap running, don't screw around when flashing, let it do it's thing and hope. -
It's still going to freeze?
-
If that does not do it then you need to find a way to cool things better. Maybe even check the whole heat thing before flash (just to see).
HWMonitor (use it) -
Well my main concern is will this install 94.28 the same in the end as the other method would?
-
-
Have you read this?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=303626 -
the 94.28 is not for the 7811
-
I can say, however, that the DVD in my 2888 model was different that the one in my 2887 (sadly, I didn't take pictures of the one in my 2888). The DVD in the 2887 that I had had considerably less plastic in the tray and it would flex so much that the tray would touch the tabletop when I put a DVD in. I was afraid I would break it, so inserting a DVD became a two handed operation, with one hand supporting the tray.
My 2887 came with a grooved power brick that got uncomfortably hot. My 2888 came with a smooth power brick that gets warm, but not so warm that I would worry about my 4-yr-old touching it. Others have reported that their 2887s came with both smooth and grooved power bricks.
Also, while there is no noticable difference in the external intake or exhaust vents for the gpu fan, there is a difference in the shroud around the fan between my 2887 and 2888 model. I'll have to go back and look at the pictures, but I think there was a difference in the labels on the fans as well, as my impression was that the fans were also different. The cooling was definately better in MY 2888 that in MY 2887 (no matter which driver or BIOS I used with the 2887).
Some have speculated in other threads that the run of 2887 models was a much larger run and therefore it's possible that the rate of failure was the same between the 2887s and 2888s but there are a lot more 2887s out there and so the number of people complaining about the 2887 is greater. Certainly, anecdotal evidence suggests that there are a lot more 2887s out there than 2888s. Anyone who has looked for a 2888 model will tell you they had no problems finding 2887 models.
I suspect a combination of things happened. I think that Gateway engineers probably identified some problems in early models and made some design changes. Once the new parts showed up at the assembly plant in China, those new parts were used. If the new parts ran out, then they used whatever remaining stock of the old part they had, or since this was the same chasis as earlier FX models, they may have used leftover stock from those older models (like fans and fan shrouds). By the time the time August rolled around (beginning of the 2888 production run), they were either out of the old part stock, or had a sufficient supply (or continuous supply) of the new parts to meet quota without substitutions. Thus the 2887s are a bit more hit and miss while the 2888s seem to be fairly consistant. While this is conjecture on my part, discussions with some of my colleagues leads me to believe that this is a highly probable scenario.
My understanding from some of my colleagues that have worked with China contractors is that there has been a much higher emphasis on meeting quota, than on quality. This is why you end up with poisonous fillers in pet food, lead paint on toy trains and purple Santa Clauses... and 2887s that work fine and 2887s that have problems.
The good news is that the Chinese are trying to improve the quality of their manufacturing processes. But it takes time to change the mindset of an entire government. http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/refrigerators.asp -
Does anyone know, can the blue power LED and battery LED be turned OFF? They are quite bright and light up an entire room, when trying to sleep at night
.So far i have covered those LEDs, but maybe there is a better workaround?
-
Grea info fiziks
-
viil, it's a function key and number button if I remember right..or an F# button. Dont try em all, ya may break something. Fn & 4? I dunno..just look at the lil pics on the keys
-
Fn + F1 truns the lights out ... good night.
-
nice info syn..
anyone here know which is better: the 177.85 driver of xfastest or the 180.43 driver of nvidia?
-
fn +f1 and the lights are out
-
LOL, thx. Actually i have already pressed that Fn+F1, but i noticed that all those orange media buttons turned off, didn't pay attention to those blue LED's down at the bottom
. Thanks anyway (Y)

Hey guys, new to this forum and recently purchased the 7811. I love it! Just a few questions:
1.) Is there any kind of fix for the start/stopping fan 'issue'? I can step away and not use it for a while and it still does the: rev fan for 2 seconds, slow back down. Happens every couple of minutes it seems.
2.) Any drivers that are a must have? I did update the nvidia earlier today.
3.) Although it took a bit, I finally adjusted to the amazing high resolution. I decided to stick with my laptop as-is and not use an external monitor because I can fit more on this 17" than my 22". I'm curious to know how many of you use your laptop as-is vs. hooking it up to an external monitor/keyboard.
Thanks! -
1. Prop it up in rear. Fan goes on to cool the video temp. HWMonitor and watch.
2. Nope, update at will or not. Can't say any driver problem. (new bios allows RAID if you want)
3. Love the screen ... no external. -
-
after shut down just pull the plug out and the led goes to sleep.
as to sleep wake it up press fn+f1 and then put it to sleep (5 sec?) -
Right, I think once they are out they stay out even while napping.

hi guys. my lappy just arrived... ooooh the sweet smell of plastic burning. guys can someone give me a link of the essential drivers? +rep to someone who helps me out. i need to reformat my system. and it seems to me that some of my drivers are already corrupt because of my tampering with it from here in the Phils to the US.
thanks in advance.
