I also live in Canada and am interested in buying this laptop. And for me driving down to the states is not an option, I just don't have the time or opportunity. I'm wondering if it's possible to get this laptop ordered in to a Best Buy in Canada or if anyone knows of some other store I can get it. The other option I'd be looking at I guess is getting an American friend to buy it for me and then ship it to me. Although I'd be worried about how the warranty is affected in that case.

Because i am changing my PC and it feels good to know that you have it new so nobody touched it before and ****?

Besides if we start off worrying everything we buy new have like 75% chance of being broke then there is no point at all buying these laptops.

Anyways id rather have it new then 7 ppl touched it then returned it for some reason.

Ebay is one way i could get it so far but it would cost me ...1640$ (USD) total (with handling and shippin that is ****ing 110$)

    -_- this is killing me.

I got a 6831 when they carried them in BB in Canada. They dont anymore and those are the only ways I know how to get one.

And I dont think BB would get just one model in for one person, I just dont think it will happen.

Yeah well right now my possibilities are : Buying it off ebay for 1640 USD(110 of those is shipping and handling to canada) which isnt really my point the whole point was the 1249,99 price.

    OR

Driving down to Plattsburgh's Best-Buy to get it like this weekend or something. Tho its out of stock at that best-buy so ill have to go further to get it at another best-buy which pisses me off x100

And of top of that, i have no clue how much itll cost me at the border for bringing in a US product. Unless i hide it theres a really low probability of them actually finding it or asking me to open anything but it always happens to me.

Anyone has a clue? or maybe another solution.

Besides driving down to plattsburgh isnt really that far from here, the best-buy is like 52 miles away from my place to there. And this is a random time of the year so im guessing there will be little to no waiting at the border. Then again. what do i know. I want this baby + warhammer asap and the sale isnt going to last forever

There was a post on here basically telling how to get out of border fees, etc. Basically pull it out of the box and throw everything away but the laptop and the restore disks. Turn the laptop on and make it look used and hide the restore discs somewhere.

I, however, like to keep my box (the Gateway one and the one built in to my girl) in case I ever need to return it and/or have it serviced (the Gateway and/or my girl) and know several people this way, so this may not be feasible for you but I figured I'd mention it anyway.

I bought the M-6862 and am considering selling it and buying the P-7811FX instead. I'm not much of a PC gamer. I just do a lot of multi-tasking and work on the PC and need a fast, powerful, and reliable system. The M-6862 would have been perfect for me if it wasn't for the 1200x800 resolution; that just doesn't give me the screen space I'm used to on my old desktop, and I don't really want to force myself to get used to that resolution if I'm going to be using this extensively for at least a couple years before buying a whole new system. So my main reason for buying the P-7811FX would be the much better resolution. I might go to Best Buy and purchase one tomorrow. Should I do it or would I be better off with something else?

if you not a gamer there is no reason in buying a notebook with high end gpu,
just browse for a notebook 1920x1200 with t9300/p9500 cpu. in your case, buying the 7811 means a large portion of your money will not serve you. BB site is currently being updated so i cant...

all that said, the 7811 is so well priced (during discounts) that you might not find a better deal even if gpu power is no concern at all.

First of all i want to apologize if this question has been asked already, but I'm in the Navy and on a ship right now so my internet is slower than 56K so searching through all the threads would take forever.

What is the fastest processor available for the P-7811? I plan on purchasing and upgrading one when I return to the states.

hey quick question to all you 7811fx owners out there with or without but mainly without an extra laptop, do you often move you 7811? like say from ur room to the livingroom? and playin it on ur lap or something? with or without a cooler, and has anyone used this to school? or is it too big and embarrassing to take to school, thanks!

So having a high end video card is only useful for gaming and nothing else? I've tried searching, but can't find much. Most of the cheaper laptops with good specs have a maxium resolution of 1200x800. Is the P-7811 the best deal for lots of multi-tasking and working with a high resolution?

Vince, I go wherever I like in my place with my laptop desk(30 bucks from Staples, it's their nice wooden one with a solid one-piece cushion rather than a piece of cloth glued to the underside) and my targus collapsible X stand. The latter lifts the laptop a bit less than an inch off the surface to let air in. It's very portable because it collapses into the size of about a fist and a half, and is light and surprisingly sturdy. It's very easy to move around like this, either carrying my laptop/lapdesk like a tray or just grabbing each individually.

I use my 7811 in bed, sitting on the floor with my back up against the bottom of the couch while watching t.v. in the living room, or put it on the coffee table, take it to the balcony, whatever I feel like at the time.

New owner here and I haven't really taken the machine anywhere yet, but I did test out the backpack I got for it yesterday - managed to pack the computer, a NZXT Cryo cooler, mouse, headset, and all the cables into this bag. It was a really tight fit, and the thing weighs a ton, but it was do-able, and you could definitely travel with it this way. Adding books would probably be an exercise in futility however. I will say that the main spatial issue I had was with the cooler. If you travel without one and just raise up the back of the machine, you should be golden.

I just ordered this laptop on eBay for $1,469.98 - $200 with Microsoft 30% cashback. I asked the seller if it was the 2888 serial number and he said it was. I also asked him to check for dead pixels and he said there weren't any.

What kind of sound can the 7811FX export? I was wondering how it would do passing the audio to an Audio Reciever. Would it pass the signal as 5.1 or 7.1 if that is what the game is done in or will it only pass 2 channel HD sound?

I.e. does one need an external 5.1/7.1 sound card like the Turtle Beach SRM to get real HD multichannel sound into a receiver to be played through your rooms speakers (not laptops)

Do we still have problem with eSata under XP 64? Because i just pluged in my HDD box to eSata port and it happily recognized the HDD and i am using it.
Dunno how i got the drivers! Maybe it worked from the beginning :p . The thing was, that i have dual boot (Vista 64 and XP64), pluged in the eSata HDD for Vista, but then booted to XP for video driver renewal, and suddenly saw that XP had found new HDD :D while cable inserted into eSata.
