No problem.
Yeah dude, I wasn't wasting any time in that store lol -
Thanks, couldn't get mine that clear
Btw whats up with the black marks? Whats the most someone could do with your receipt? They're all over the ground walking out of stores anyway
-
Is it worth it getting the 3 year warrenty with accidental for $350?
-
It depends on your buget, and how your going to use it, do you have a greater chance of dropping it? Maybe go for the 2year
Giffrent subject: Just to be sure, the P-7805u does not have Bluetooth correct? -
i was informed today that they are shipping back the wrong laptops and getting the right specs laptops in. so get that laptop while you can before they get the correct one in!
-
The rumor is most likely false..I went in today...again :|..they didn't have the laptop but they did have a display laptop...exact same thing I am pretty sure.
-
So what are the correct specs, lower res screens? Or was that what BB said to get you to come back after the 4th?
-
i am an employee there and my supervisor informed me today. the screw up was on gateways end not best buys.
-
What are the spec diffrences? What is the price?
-
O ok
...I am going to Lawrence Long Island tomorrow(1hr 1/2 away from me
) to get a laptop...hopefully I really do get one...
-
everything you see on the sticker should be correct. so in that case it will be the lower screen res and the same price.
the price was right from the start, the laptop was not the correct one or gateway messed up by putting the high screen res on there from the start. -
do you know when they are going to start shipping back the ones they have and get the correct laptops?
I'm suppose to pick my laptop up on saturday ... hopefully they don't start until next week! -
Hey ekmr i picked mine up in brighton yesterday and they had 2 more available there and it was the only store in Michigan that had them in stock .
-
its hard to say. it depends on that best buy and if the supervisor got around to it. we dont have any at the store i work at. i sold one to a dude and worker bought one. to be honest i dont think my store will have one to display because we are short stocked on laptops right now. its still unknown when we are getting a new shipment of them. the street date for that laptop in the 1/4/09.
the store i work i at only got two in. -
100 bucks extra for a high res screen :/...I sorta want to wait, donno if I should save the extra 100(plus the extra tax put on it)..
-
When i was in the auburn hills store the girl that worked in the comp department showed me the screen and there was no street date just a date they will be for sale 1/4, so basically because there was no hard street date they could be sold as soon as they arrived. So i just said what the heck and drove to the store without even calling ahead (1 hour drive) and took the gamble .
-
honestly go for it its a good laptop. me i am one picky person when it comes to buying a laptop. i am about to graduate high school so looking for the absolute best laptop i am thinking about a macbook pro (waiting for the 17 in redesign) or something with centrino 2 and 9800 video card with a high screen res. the asus would be nice if it had bluetooth and 1900 x 1200. i am a big customize person when it comes to buying a laptop.
-
For anyone who is interested, the Best Buy in Mchenry, IL had three in stock, I bought one so now they have two.
The laptop showed up in their system for $1149.99, but I was able to get them to pricematch it for the $1049.99. The funny thing is, when the manager did the pricematch, he didn't include tax on it.
Also, this was a shipment that they just got in. The screen is 1920x1200 not the 1440x900 as it's listed on the palmrest sticker and the box.
So I got it for $1049.99 on the nose.
-
My Story-
Went in on Monday and had sku searched. Said none in but 4 by truck this coming Sat am. After reading some posts on BB employees not realy knowing when trucks come in, I went today and wouldn't you know, one was on display and 1 left in cage. Got 18 months same as cash with BB credit , cost was 1140 + 70 tax. Sceen is 1900x1200 despite label on palm rest saying 1400x900. I love it and so does wife! Will start de-craptifying, tweaking all night-gonna need some more coffee!
BB was in Niles, Ohio.
Happy Newyear! -
Gratz! on your lappy
-
=( Oh well, I'm off to california in the morning tomorrow.. good luck with your laptops everyone!
-
I got a question about the overall speed. I just used CPUz and when I check the speed its at 1.5ghz and not the 2.26ghz it should be. I guess its just the laptop throttling down to save power. I really don't care about the power since I will always have it plugged in. Is their a way to keep it going at 2.26ghz the whole time????
-
Yes, change your "power plan" from "balanced" to "high performance".
-
Lucky you
$1,123 for mine, with tax.

A few quick notes:
Best Buy corp has the P-7805u listed at $1149.99 with most stores receiving their inventory this upcoming Saturday morning (on Friday's truck). Be sure to ask about a price-match against the $1049.99 as most stores will check "RSS - other locations - pricing" and be able to verify if other locations had the lower price. I normally OK most price matches at my store.
Also, the $100 price increase is a normal market reaction that BBY practices. It's called "market reaction" and prices do fluctuate on new items from time to time. A recent example being a 17" HP comp that was initially priced at $799 until too many sold out too quickly, then increased to $899, until finally dropping back down to $649 as a clearance item. This is normal and expected especially with "hot" computers such as this P-7805u gamer!
There hasn't been any "official" BBY word that the new comps shipping will have any different specs than the initial ones. IE - the new comps should also be the wUxga 1920x1200 & 2.26GHz & 9800GTS 1GB. So don't fret yet!! I'll check back with corporate in a few days.
Now a few questions...
Is it better to buy a P-7811 for the clearance price of $869 (or possibly as low as $450!!!) or the newer P-7805u for $1149?
Is the P-7805u's DDR3 expandable to 8GB? (Two slots with 2GB each, or one slot with 4GB?) -
Even with it at "high performance" in CPUz it still constantly changes between a multiplyer of 6 and 8.5. I don't get why its doing this. I want it at 2.26 not 1.5
-
The P7805u comes with 2 2 gb sticks of DDR3
-
Too late for me, I am fretting, driving 1 hour to go and grab mine, I am gonna show some receipts and such and hope for the best, but maybe if you could give me some locations of stores that still have the 1049 price, that would even be better for me
-
Whoa???!! Possibly 450$. Is that even possible?? I know the model is discontinued but that would be the deal of the century.
-
Finally figured out what drives the GPU fan .... as soon as it hits 50C it'll do that ramp up fan spin....
-
Question: Our P-7805u FX's comes with OEM licenses of Vista Premium 64bit SP1? So, could I use that to reinstall from a Vista MSDN disc? (wanted to try RAID0)
-
Yeah, WTH man. Didn't the 7811 JUST come out in like August???? What's up with Gateway discontinuing it so quickly and pushing these "new" models out. There really hasn't been much of a hardware change between the models (same vid card, cpu, ram, etc).
I look at Dell computers, for instance, and see that they are STILL selling the 1500 and 1700 series Inspiron laptops with the T CPUs (not the new Ps). Those series have been there for YEARS (without major changes in price). But discontinuing the 7811 after 4 months, and cutting the price 50% is ridiculous.
(I'm mostly pissed because I bought the 7811 in September and don't want to see my laptop fall in value so fast) -
As you can see the P-7800 series is still alive and the P-6800 series ran for a year. Since Dell's are customizable there is no need to note differences in cpu. screen, etc with a new model number as with Gateway.
The P-7805 is not a "new' model per se, but more a new configuration. -
Well guys so far i'm extremely impressed by this thing.
Runs everything I throw at it.
CoD4 maxed out at 1920x1200 wth 40fps in hardcore fire, 90+ inside buildings with shooting, etc.
Also the temps are amazing so far, 6hours of CoD4 multiplayer the max GPU was 64c.
3hours of GTA IV (This machine runs it very well), Max GPU was 66c.
Next going to install Left 4 Dead and Crysis Warhead.. We'll see how it goes from there
-
2 thumbs UP!!! I love mine!!!
-
On mine, Everest Ultimate indicates that it stays at max speed while CPUz indicates the multi is changing. But in the lower power plans CPUz does not pick up on the dynamic FSB change while Everest Ultimate does. That leads me to believe that Everest is more in tune with mobile systems. I will find another program to try and verify who is correct.

Between the P-7811FX and the P-7805u FX, I like the P-7805u much better due to the screen. I bought both new and sold the P-7811 some time back. My P-7805u has the LG display and I was able to tune it much more to my liking, very pleased with the display of P-7805u. At clearance price of $869 I would pass on the P-7811 but at $450 I would be all over it, of course.
I've also read somewhere that supposedly the GPU's with 1Gb memory are built on the 55nm process while the 512's are still built on the 65nm. The 55nm parts should use less voltage and generate less heat, a big plus for mobiles. -
SSWilson how were you able to tune your display? Did you have to download the display driver? I'm trying to get it to look right under 1400x900 but it doesn't look right.
-
I am talking about native resolution, 1920X1200. I used Calibrize 2.0 for tuning display brightness, contrast and color.
-
Also the temps on 7805 is better than 7811. After a 720/996 overclock to the GPU, the max GPU temp is 78C. CPU is not heating up at all. Max temp on the CPU is 58C. I'll put an x9100 and see what is going on with the TZS0 on this one.

I called two different bestbuys and both say the product number is invalid.
and they have no p-7805u -
I just got mine from Best Buy in Bridgewater, NJ. I got last one though but it was obviously in there system. I just went there and if they didn't have it I was gonna have them check other stores in area for it.
Is this a reliable unit? Reason I ask is because I didn't get the Best Buy warranty and have 14 days to decide if I do. -
You may have to actually go there. On the phone, they aren't always helpful or truthful. I called one location and they told me they didn't have it. I just went to another and when the guy looked up 9172511 for me. It showed that the location I called had it. However I bought it from the location I was at.
-
Thanks for the info. I'm not very tech savy when it comes to screens. What's the difference between the 7811 and 7805 tech wise? They're both displays installed by Gateway to run at 1920x1200. What would be different about them???
Also, where did you read about the 55nm vs 65nm on this laptop? I'd be interested in reading that as well. -
Yep, me too. Please provide a source for your information on this. Thank you. -Goodspeed
-
, I think one store lied to me, donno why I didn't go there...was just an hour later when I called from the BB I went to that said they had 2...but who knows, both BB's I went to are very big.
-
You got your unit already, Zakattack423?
-
I thought the price was increased to 1149.99. Still a very good buy.
-
Nope, I went to a BB yesterday and they didn't have them...so there was one that had 2 but they were somewhat far away, so I called to make sure they had them about 30mins to an hour later and they were out they said...Iforget but I think I said that another store said you had 2 an hour ago or so. But anyways, I am going today to Long Island, which for me is an hour away
edit: Yea the price went up to 1149 Husk
